today's album review: Older (and Wiser) by Lizzy McAlpine!
I listened to the first version of this album when it came out last year, but I hadn't listened to the deluxe version all the way through before today and it did not disappoint :)
here are my takeaways:
The Elevator: beautiful intro. the line "can we stay like this forever/can we stay here in this room till we die/I think we can make it/I hope that I'm right" gives me chills every time and I love how it feeds into the next track. 8/10
Come Down Soon: honestly not one of my favorites at first listen but it certainly grew on me. I really like this one a lot lyrically and lowkey the more I listen to this entire album in general the more relatable it gets which I don't know how to feel about! 9/10
Like It Tends To Do: ouch. just ouch. why would you do this Lizzy. why. I'm sobbing. 10/10
Movie Star: not one of my favorites. it's a good song but doesn't stand out to me much, however I do like the message she's trying to convey. even in the songs of hers I don't particularly vibe with, Lizzy still shows her prowess as a songwriter and that's one thing I love about her. 7/10
All Falls Down: another one that wasn't a favorite at first listen but I do really like it now! I also like the woodwind features she had in this one, I thought those were really fun and cool. I'm a woodwind player myself so it was fun to hear those instruments in a genre where you don't hear them as often! 8/10
Staying: ohhhh this song. easily one of my favorites off this album. it gets me emotional every time I hear it... like what do you mean "maybe I will be okay if I let this go forever" girl that hurt a little! it's just such a pretty song in general and it makes me feel things. 10/10
I Guess: another great song! this was one of the leading singles from this album and I remember listening to this one a lot before it came out, I really like it and it's a great acoustic guitar-heavy song. 8/10
Drunk, Running: this one is yet another that grew on me, albeit a lot faster than Come Down Soon and All Falls Down did. it feels very light and ethereal and I love the storytelling in this one and how her perception of the situation gradually evolves throughout the entire song. love this one. 9/10
Broken Glass: I fell in love with this one at first listen. it's different than a lot of her other songs and I absolutely loved the direction she took this one in. I would not be mad if we got more songs like this from Lizzy. 11/10
You Forced Me To: another one that's good but didn't really stand out to me too much. I listened to it again today and I actually liked it a lot more than I remember so that was cool! 7/10
Older: gorgeous. the leading single for this album and it does not disappoint. as someone who's in a transitional period in my life right now, this song hits closer to home more and more every day. 9/10
Better Than This: ugh. this one is a bit too relatable. I adore this song but it can be a tough listen. it's such a good song though and it actually gives me a lot of hope and it's a healing song in a way. 10/10
March: this song is so sweet. Lizzy dedicates the 13th song on each one of her albums to her dad that passed away and they're always so sweet and lovely. beautiful tribute. 9/10
Vortex: omg. easily my favorite song off this album. I don't know what she put into this song that made me love it so much but it is just incredible from the instrumentals to the lyrics to the delivery to the outro--it's just an amazing song. 12/10
Method Acting: I've only listened to this one a couple of times but from what I've heard I liked it! not much else to say. 6/10
Pushing it Down and Praying: I've liked this one a lot ever since it came out and it's a close tie for my favorite bonus song off this album. very well written and I like the intensity of the bridge. 9/10
Soccer Practice: this one's really bittersweet and beautiful and it makes me emotional every time I hear it like a lot of her songs do. tied with the above for my favorite bonus track. 9/10
Force of Nature: another one I haven't listened to much but I did like it! 6/10
Spring Into Summer: this one is really cute! I like this one a lot, it's a good cheer-up song for me but it still has some really profound lyricism. 8/10
overall, this might be my favorite Lizzy album to date. I can't wait to see what she does next. 9/10

today's review: Grace by Jeff Buckley!
this is definitely a well-beloved album by many, and I heard "Lover, You Should've Come Over" for the first time a few months ago and this was yet another one I bought on CD before listening to the whole thing. Needless to say, it did not disappoint.
Mojo Pin: 8/10. Killer opener to an album. he does this a lot throughout the entire album, but the slow buildups and random flashes of intensity he weaves throughout each song get me every time.
Grace: 7/10. every time I listen to the third verse I get chills. his voice is just so good in whatever register he's singing in and the higher registers are just incredible.
Last Goodbye: 7/10. banger again. it's a lot more upbeat and lighthearted than the other songs but still really deep lyrically, which I liked.
Lilac Wine: 9/10. Absolutely heart-wrenching. screaming crying throwing up. like what do you mean "listen to me, I cannot see clearly/isn't that she coming to me, nearly here". gorgeous and definitely a favorite.
So Real: 8/10. I actually didn't really like this song at first! I did come around and see the error of my ways! a really good song overall
Hallelujah: 9/10. easily my favorite version of this song. again, his voice, the instrumentation, the inflection--it makes for a very emotional and cathartic listen. beautiful.
Lover, You Should've Come Over: 11/10. some may call me basic because it is one of the most popular songs off this album and it is indeed my favorite, but there's good reason for it. it's 7 minutes of pure emotion set to one of the sickest instrumentals ever. it's just an incredible song all around and is what made me fall in love with Jeff's music in the first place. one of my favorites of all time.
Corpus Christi Carol: 7/10. beautiful. his voice is so haunting, especially on this track.
Eternal Life: 8/10. yet another banger. also very politically relevant, both now and then! one of my favorites lyrically for sure.
Dream Brother: 10/10. Probably my second favorite on this album. it's just such a vibe. the drums, the instrumentals, I just love everything about it. it itches a part of my brain.
Forget Her: 9/10. Another banger! I really like this one lyrically too, it's devastating but I like how this heavier song is kept a bit lighter with a slightly more upbeat backing than say, Lilac Wine or Corpus Christi Carol.
Overall: 9.5/10. Literally one of my favorite albums ever. not overrated at all. definitely worth the listen.

today's album review: And In the Darkness, Hearts Aglow by Weyes Blood! I actually bought this one on CD before I ever listened to it on streaming and she's someone I'd never listened to before, so my first experience with this album was kind of one of chance. safe to say I was not disappointed. here's my thoughts:
It's Not Just Me, It's Everybody: 9/10. banger start, very ethereal and gorgeous. the flute part towards the end got me feeling like I'm ascending every time. also very good lyrically.
Children of the Empire: 8/10. very cool beat, like the groove a lot. lyrics are politically relevant right now which is cool but also frightening. definitely give this one a listen.
Grapevine: 7/10. also a banger, just doesn't stand out to me as much as the others on the album.
God Turn Me Into A Flower: 9/10. beautiful, heartbreaking, ethereal. describes the feeling of wanting to be something other than yourself but you can't because "the person on the other side has always just been you." love this one.
Hearts Aglow: 10/10. definitely my favorite track on the album. it's just so warm and cute and makes me feel all fuzzy inside, like my heart is aglow if you will. it's few and far between in the music I listen to to hear a truly happy love song, and this one is definitely one that stands out. it just makes me happy.
And in the Darkness: 5/10. nothing super special, just kind of a transition piece.
Twin Flame: 7/10. very groovy! I like the beat, the general vibe is fun, kind of more of an upbeat tune.
In Holy Flux: 5/10. another transition piece. I do like that she includes them though, it's kind of cool!
The Worst Is Done: 9/10. another favorite off this album. I really like the lyrics and it's another really fun and upbeat song.
A Given Thing: 8/10. a beautiful ending to a beautiful album. I love the ethereal feel of her music.
Overall: 8/10. gorgeous album, love the magical feeling of the music. do not regret buying this one on CD.

so I lowkey forgot I had this blog! I think I'm gonna start posting here again, album reviews and music recs and whatnot. so here's my first review after that long hiatus lol:
About U by MUNA (2017)
So Special: 8/10. I really love this song and relate to it just a little bit. I get how it feels to suddenly not be special to someone anymore and how much that sucks, but this one is also a banger.
Loudspeaker: 7/10. another banger. loudspeakuh. that's all I have to say.
I Know a Place: 9/10. one of the first MUNA songs I ever heard! I love it and it holds a special place in my heart with all its queer positivity. also, I love the acoustic version and especially the lyric addition that is just as politically relevant now as it was in 2018.
Winterbreak: 9/10. one of my favorites on this album and just a great song in general. it's sexy but it's also tragic and I just love the quality of songwriting on it.
Around U: 7/10. I relate to this one too and it's a comfort song for me. it's a good reminder that after events happen it's for the best to move on because things will be different, but they will be okay and often better.
After: 5/10. doesn't stand out to me too much, but still a good song.
Promise: 7/10. I like the backing vocals on this one a lot and I'm a huge fan of it lyrically too. self-forgiveness is so hard and I think they portray it really well in this one.
If U Love Me Now: 9/10. this one is amazing lyrically as well. it really kind of highlights the struggle with being loved when you aren't able to fully love yourself and I really like that.
Crying On the Bathroom Floor: 6/10. it's a good song, but again, doesn't stand out to me too much.
End of Desire: 7/10. I like this one a lot too. it's written really well and describes the ache of yearning very well.
Everything: 15/10. I cannot say enough about this song. it's my favorite MUNA song for a reason and just so good. the first time I ever heard it I was on the bus back from a band competition and I remember sobbing to it at like 12 in the morning. I love Everything so much. if there are no Everything fans I'm dead. such a good song.
Outro: 6/10. cool album outro! not much more to say.
overall: 9/10. tied for my favorite MUNA album with their self-titled album, and a killer debut. I love this album.

This is one of my most favorite albums ever, I love it so so so much but im going to be diving deeper into why I enjoy it this much!!
Tracklist
DVD Menu-cool way to start an album. Kinda spooky but I like how it ties into the I Know the End outro: 7/10
Garden Song-idk, I have mixed feelings on this one. The songwriting is incredible but I'm still not the biggest fan of this song: 7/10
Kyoto-banger. Sill upbeat while preserving the soulful lyrics Phoebe is known for: 9/10
Punisher-so so pretty. Impossible not to love. I kinda want to slow dance to it on a balcony someday: 8/10
Halloween-for a while I didn't like this song. For no particular reason. I've seen the error of my ways though: 7/10
Chinese Satellite-very relatable. Still one of my favorite songs and definitely one of my top 10, also my #1 listened spotify track: 10/10
Moon Song-It makes me want to cry every time i hear it. So tragic and beautiful, it's impossible not to love: 10/10
Savior Complex-very pretty song, again the songwriting is amazing: 9/10
ICU-another banger. makes me want to lean my head out the window and scream along to this song: 9/10
Graceland Too-one of the 1st song I'd heard of hers and still a favorite. The harmonies are so beautiful and something about watching julien eat saltines on the floor and wanting to do anything for her is something I would do: 10/10
I Know the End-I WILL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT THIS SONG. Literally my favorite song, it's so good, I just love it so so sooo much. 1111111000000/10
