Just saw a post that said being a top Light and bottom L shipper is hard and I'm like but isn't that like most of the fandom perceive their dynamic as??? And let me get this straight I'm not wanting to start any fights but I've been in the fandom long enough to see that the general attitude is that they view Light as the top (🤢) and L as the bottom (dont even get me started). I've asked most of my friends and they always say they've viewed L as the bottom (which I completely disagree with that sentiment but I digress.) One friend though (bless her she's the only one I trust lmfao) says that Light is more like the bottom and L the top since she views L as more mature and in control of his emotions and Light as a bratty and audacious teenager. But she had been the only one out of my whole friend group to say the opposite. Though I will say in the Asian side of the fandom top L and bottom Light is more prominent which I love. I don't really think if you're a top Light and Bottom L enjoyer (at least in the western side of the fandom) you are in the minority let's be for real now lol. I myself only like Bottom Light and Top L since I've always gravitated towards it more and the reverse makes me uncomfortable (I'm ok with switching irl to be clear but in my Lawlight fiction I have my fixed preferences and Top L and Bottom Light is for me ❤️). But idk what are yalls thoughts? Let's try to be civil but in my opinion Bottom Light lovers (and top L lovers by extension) tend to be more the minority rather than the majority.
Edit since I wanted to clarify some things: when I say that bottom light/top L can tend to be the minority this is what i refer to:
- "top L, bottom Light" dynamic is not a tiny, insignificant minority - it has a meaningful following within the fandom.
However, the "top Light, bottom L" interpretation appears to be the more predominant or commonly depicted version across the broader Death Note fandom.
So "minority" in this case refers to the relative prevalence, not the absolute number of fans. The "top L, bottom Light" dynamic has a substantial presence, just not to the same degree as the other more dominant interpretation.
But at the end of the day I'm just speaking from experience and it might be different for you and that's ok. There's no right or wrong view I just wanted to speak from my experience and what I've personally seen when I've been involved in the Lawlight fandom.
If you disagree with my view that's totally fine just don't be an ass about it.
