He didn’t have time for this. Which, considering that this time last year, he would’ve literally dove over people to have a chance to talk to Lily alone, said a lot. But, he was on the hunt for his missing kitten, and he was really starting to get worried. “Consider it a compliment, Snaps. If you’re able to look past the squished face, my cat’s quite the looker. And, some might even say he’s more charming than you.”
“ — seems he doesn’t feel the same way about you, if he’s run away. ” lily shrugged, glancing around. “ — well, he’s not around HERE. if i start sneezing, i’ll let you know. ”
#c: james p#i think the obvious solution here is to use lily's allergies as a gps to pinpoint the cat

deermrpctter:
This was absolutely ridiculous. James had only just gotten this cat, and already, he’d lost it. If Filch found him, then there was no telling what he might do to his new pet, considering it payback for all the time James had hung Mrs. Norris from the chandeliers. “Clark,” James called, nearly running into the person heading the opposite way down the corridor. “Nope. You aren’t a cat.”
lily blinked, momentarily baffled and somewhat inexplicably annoyed. “ — what gave it away ? ” she crossed her arms, looking at him askance. “ — you know, when people talk about cat calling they don’t literally mean calling someone a cat. ”

lionheart-macca:
“I can’t believe we get to handle Vemomous Tentacula this year. They’re bloody brilliant - venomous and bloodthirsty and all that. Some people even keep them as pets to fend off burglars and such,” Macca rambled, his textbook open in his lap as he enjoyed the midday sun. It was nice out for once, if not a little nippy, and he wasn’t the type to let his free periods go to waste. So he’d kicked off his shoes and found a nice shaded spot to laze about in, feeling calmer than he had in weeks.
Sixth-year Herbology was shaping up to be the most dangerous year yet…and the most awesome. He was particularly excited about the Venomous Tentacula, the danger factor along with its awesome name piquing his interest as soon as he’d skimmed through his textbook. Macca doubted his father would want him playing with man-eating plants, but what the old man didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him.
lily had originally intended to come out and study as well, but her mind wandered easily. she was now doodling venomous tentacula in the margin of what was supposed to be a potions essay, her shoes kicked off to the side. “ — you know how people talk to their plants to help them grow ? what do you think you say to venomous tentacula ? like, do you read it horror novels or something with lots of blood and glore ? ” she wondered idly.

lily had hardly had the chance to catch up with alice after bertram’s death. as prefects, they’d all been overwhelmed with responsibilities, and the constant undercurrent of fear made small talk somewhat difficult. she finally caught up with her after one of their evening prefect meetings, wordlessly slipping her arm into her friend’s and squeezing. “ — fancy bending the rules a bit to sneak into the kitchen for a CUPPA ? ” // @crovchss

ludxbagman:
ludovic sat surrounded by books on the soild bellow one of the multiple trees on the Hogwarts grounds. he was trying to read all he could about quidditch, about the multiple teams and every single rule that there might be. when he was reading about the 1878 quidditch world cup when he saw a shadow approaching. he wouldn’t have minded until he saw the person who'se shadow was covering him setting on one of his books. ludo closed the book he was reading and pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “excuse me, not to be rude, but it would be nice if you could move your foot just a few inches so that i can retrieve my book.” he softly spoke before lifting his head to see who was stepping on his book.
“ — oh, CRIPES, sorry, ” lily exclaimed, leaping back from where she’d been standing. she tilted her head to look at the book she’d had her foot on, reading the title. “ — reading up on quidditch, huh ? maybe i shouldn’t have moved my foot, ” she joked. “ — don’t want hufflepuff beating us in the next match. ” not that she was actually on the gryffindor quidditch team, of course. her participation was merely from the bleachers, which was about as high up as lily was comfortable being.

aislingxburke:
It was no secret that the majority of Hogwarts students took divination as a joke. An easy class they had no doubt about passing. Aisling, however, loved the subject. She found the endless possibilities and interpretations that the future held absolutely fascinating - and she loved to share those fascinations with others. Even if not all welcomed her enthusiasm. Cartomancy was her particular strength and Aisling enjoyed practicing on the many unsuspecting students in the library. After all, taking a break from studying was healthy.
“Want me to read your future?” Aisling asked the person sitting across from her, a bright grin twisting at her lips as she spread the tarot neatly over the table.
lily’s lips parted in surprise and amusement at the offer. she wasn’t quite sure if she believed in divination, but she was sure that she was getting a headache from her transfiguration essay, and could do with a fun break. “ — sure, why not ? ” she agreed readily, setting her quill down. “ — read away. ”

augustine-thegreat:
Augustine had just finished his essay for potions, putting down his quill and rubbing the space between his eyes as he looked over to see that it was already past curfew. Had a prefect already asked him to leave and he ignored them, or had they looked the other way, knowing that Augustine would leave in his own good time? Regardless, he’d have to leave now, and picked up the candle that he was using as a source of light and his scrolls underneath his other arm to make his way towards the library’s exit.
Quiet as a church mouse, he stopped as a bright light of the tip of a wand blinded him. Augustine squinted and tried to cover his eyes from the person at the other end. “I was just leaving, there’s no need to raise a wand at me.”
“ — i think lumos hardly counts as raising a wand at you, ” lily said dryly, but she lowered her wand nonetheless, directing the light away from his eyes. she hesitated, suspicions rising. normally, as a prefect, lily tried not to have bias, even against pureblood slytherins who were out after dark, but after the events of hallowe’en she couldn’t help it. “ — what are you doing out past curfew ? ”

“Ah, right. Sorry ‘bout all that then.” Aurora admitted sheepishly, taking a cigarette out of her pack and passing it over. “I just saw the colour of your tie and assumed. Perhaps I shouldn’t have. Something like that. Sometimes I think I just do it for the habit of it all. The smell, feel of it between your fingers. It’s all kinda comforting. Anyway, need a light?”
“ — no, no, don’t be sorry, ” lily exclaimed. “ — honestly, i think i’d RATHER people assumed i don’t smoke. maybe one day it’ll guilt me into stopping. ” she accepted the light and took a drag from her cigarette, feeling her jangled nerves start to settle. “ — yes, EXACTLY. i just … i could do with some familiarity right now. carcinogenic or not. ”

dcrkcarrow:
Alecto relished in moments like this one, when people felt brave enough to confront her because it didn’t happen often. The look on Lily’s face made her smile a wide toothy grin. It was clear her emotions were high and Alecto loved that her words held so much power they could cause this reaction out of someone. Her eyes remained locked on hers no sign of breaking of backing down as she ranted on. “That’s perfectly fine.” Her voice was liquid honey, sickly sweet. Alecto leaned in closer to Lily fearlessly her face inches from the others so they were eye to eye. “You can’t hide behind that prefect badge forever. I’d remember that if I were you.” Her words were more hushed than before almost a chilling whisper.
it only infuriated lily more that she was obviously giving alecto the reaction she wanted. she knew that later, when she played this interaction back in her head, she’d come up with the perfect sarcastic one-liners to leave alecto speechless. but of course, that wasn’t about to happen now. it had always been this way, ever since lily was a kid. ignore him, he’s just trying to get a rise out of you. ignore her, she’s just looking for a reaction. but lily didn’t. she couldn’t. and then she was always the one left worse off. she stared back at alecto, green eyes blazing. “ — i’m not hiding, carrow. i’m right HERE. did you have something you wanted to say to me ? ”

“What? Someone is dead, did you ever think that maybe this is my emotional support smoking session? Are you really going to rat me out for mourning?”
“ — actually, i was going to ask if i could bum a smoke. ” lily raised one shoulder in a lopsided, sheepish shrug. “ — terrible habit, i know, but i get it. it calms your nerves, right ? that’s what it does for ME, at least. ”

emmcvance:
Patrols weren’t the same, her half arsed way of wandering the halls and looking past minor details wasn’t going to cut it. It felt wrong to tell people grieving what to do. However she was immanently aware she was in charge of peoples safety. It wasn’t just house points any more it was life and death. Emmeline checked every space more thoroughly than before. Luckily it had been a quiet night most people tucked away in bed, or at the very least their common rooms. She wasn’t sure if people understood the rules or were too scared to be out past dark, but the halls echoed empty as she walked. That was until she spotted a shadow reflecting off one of the walls. “Look, you know full well you shouldn’t be here. Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t deduct house points or send you straight to Professor McGonagall.”
it was times like these when lily missed her sister most of all. in the face of death, of a life cut short too soon, their differences suddenly seemed so trivial. so, much too tired to sleep, she’d taken a quill to parchment, not for the first time and probably not for the last, and what resulted was a falsely casual letter, full of small talk shallowly masking lily’s desperation. how is home ? how is the weather ? how are mom and dad ? how are you ? she needed petunia’s cold ( and sometimes infuriating ) logic to cool her fiery temper. now, on her way to the owlery, she was so lost in thought she’d unwittingly wandered into the prefect patrol path. “ — it’s just me, emmeline, ” she said quietly, stepping into the light and holding up the envelope. “ — i’m just … i’m just sending an owl, and then i’ll go right back to my dorm. ”

“I took a picture of Bertram, the other day, actually. We were in class, and he just had this look on his face. … like he’d just stumbled upon something great, or if something had just… clicked. It seems so silly now, but that might’ve been the last time I saw him, and… I… I don’t know. It’s stupid.”
“ — it’s not stupid at all, ted, ” lily said softly, her own eyes rimmed red from the past couple days. she slid an arm around his shoulders and squeezed in a side hug. “ — maybe he DID stumble on something great. ” and now they would never know. lily’s lip trembled, but she forced it into a smile instead. “ — i think it’s really great you take photos like that. kind of … finding the beauty in every day. it’s SWEET. ”

dcrkcarrow:
Dumbledore’s words came drifting in between pauses of the girls nail filing. The assembly dragged on and Alecto pitied those who actually clung on the pathetic wizards every last word. Her brown eyes scanned as her fellow green and silver adorn house mates started to disperse the bearded mans words finished echoing in her ears. “So let me get this straight.” She questioned placing the nail file down and talking to anyone who would listen. “Because one person couldn’t stick to the plan, and went further into the forbidden forest and wound up dead the rest of us are being punished for it?”
emotions were already running high, and lily’s nerves were frayed thin. it only took one arrogant comment from a slytherin for lily to snap. “ — so let me get this straight, ” she echoed, olive green eyes narrowing at alecto. her voice was brittle, a thin veneer of pleasantness stretched over simmering fury. “ — because you can’t do whatever you want for, let me guess, the first time in your life, you think you’re being PUNISHED ? do you even realize someone is dead ? do you even realize people are mourning ? don’t you have a SHRED of empathy or kindness ? he was here, and now he’s not, and he never will be again — and you’re … you’re complaining ? you make me sick. ” she stopped for breath, feeling the beginnings of angry tears prick the corner of her eyes, as always happened whenever her temper flared too hot, but her glare was still cold as ice. “ — fifteen points from slytherin. how’s that for punishment ? ”

cmma-vanity:
It felt gross, unladylike even, to openly massage and ice one’s feet at a school dance. If her feet hurt so much, maybe she should’ve worn something more comfortable to begin with. Or not shown up at all. “It isn’t bullshit, it’s life. You can’t have something beautiful without acknowledging pain. It’s juxtaposition that helps us makes sense of the world. Men? They’re sacrificing intelligence, sacrificing acknowledgement of nuance and subtlety. Flowers grow as quickly as they die, and they’re only here for a fleeting season. Sunsets, too. Some of the most beautiful music is born out of tragedy or heartbreak. It seems to me that you’re willfully ignorant of the fact that just because something isn’t happy doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful.”
lily reached for another ice cube, turning her attention to her other foot as she listened to the other girl. “ — does sacrificing intelligence make men more beautiful ? ” she mused, but otherwise didn’t interrupt until the other girl was finished. “ — it seems to me that you’re wilfully ignorant of the fact that something can be beautiful without being painful. ” she stood up, gesturing to her feet. “ — feet that don’t HURT, for example. i think that’s pretty damn beautiful. ” and then, in a mischievous motion most unbefitting that of a prefect, she casually tossed the half-melted ice cube at emma. “ — catch. ”

“Clever! How did you get them in there? Wait-” she said, snapping her fingers. “Undetectable extension charm, right? That is so cool” she said, in awe of the girl in front of her. She was good at charms, but had never attempted that particular charm before and found herself tempted to ask for pointers. “Sloshed? Us? We would never drink…” she said sarcastically, grinning slyly. The professors may have hope, but the students were under no illusion that they would be leaving the ball sober.
“Thank you” she said, pretending to curtsy in return, before leading the way. She stopped just inside the doors. “Wow, those decorations are amazing”.
“ — oh, it’s nothing, ” lily said modestly, but she was glowing with pride. “ — professor flitwick mentioned it once in class and i thought it’d be useful, so i bugged him until he taught me how to do it. i’m not very good yet, i can’t do one much bigger than a BREADBOX. ” as lily followed the other girl in, she whistled in appreciation. “ — figures, wizards go all out for hallowe’en. ”
