Ryder’s eyebrows burrowed, his patience wearing thin. Before she could react, his hand was around her neck, not hard enough to hurt her, but to hold her in place. “You do not tell me what to do,” he reminded her, his hand flexing around her throat for a moment. “You are in my debt and I will do this however I want. This is what you agreed to, puppet. Now you will wait like a good little girl until I say so. Understand?“

Lily stopped breathing when the man had his hand around her throat, consumed by fear of what he was going to do, but luckily for her, it seemed he wasn’t interested in really hurting -- not today. She nodded her head, strugging against his hand. “I understand.” she croaked and the man turned and left, leaving a panicked and anxious Lily alone. She fell to the floor the moment he was gone, tears beginning to fall from her eyes at the thought of what this man could do to her in the future.

“Val!” she called loudly, her niece was quick on her feet and loved running around. A chuckle left her lips at the other’s words and once Val was safely settled on her hip again, she turned to Mako. “Right over there.” she pointed to a booth not too far away. “You can come with us if you like. We are are on our way there -- little Val here won’t take no for an answer.”

“What do you mean there are funnel cakes?!” he asked the small child who had already toddled off. Immediately, the clean-shaven Mako whipped around, trying to sniff out that particular booth. Were there actually? The lack of a beard must have thrown off his sense of direction.

“Livy.” Lily called with a wide smile on her lips as she hurried over to the little girl. “Hey, I didn’t know you were going to be here.” she told her before smiling up at Maddie. She was human like Tessa, Lily knew that much and she felt jealous of her at times, not just because she literally looked like a goddess but because she missed being human. It had been over a decade ago that she was one, but she missed it all the same. Everything had been just so much simpler then. “Is it okay if I give her..?” she asked the woman, gesturing to the pink ball of cotton candy she held in her hand. 

Livy was serving a massive sugar rush already. Somehow she had managed to get a chocolate bar from the fair while fishing the ducks and then a candy cane in her other hand. It looked like the girl was having the hardest choice on what to eat. Grinning, Maddie simply kept an eye on her, while holding her new toy. “You do know when we get home, you’re going to have to eat your greens.” She said, with a knowing look to the girl. But since it was the fair, she knew this one time she might have to be lenient, simply because the little girl was going to crash hard in a few hours. 

She led them both to a drink stand, and Maddie got herself and her daughter some water and spoke her thoughts out loud. “Where’s the next good thing to get the energy out of that one.” She said, grinning at the little raven-haired girl.

“Oh my God, what the hell.” Lily squealed as she bumped into someone and they spilled their drink all over her. Well, almost -- this was one of those times when her vampire speed came to use and she moved aside super quickly. “That was close.” she chuckled. “Are you okay?”

Dash looked alarmed at her reaction and he hadn’t intended to scare her more but it was clear that she was really shaken up and Dash hated to see her like this. All he wanted was to protect her and even that he seemed to struggle with. Wrapping his arms around her he held her tightly as he listened to her tell him. He was having a hard time understanding what was going on, “What do you mean Lil? Who is this guy?” Dash asked looking concerned as he tried to get his mind around all of this. “Yeah, yeah, of course grab your things, the truck is out front, let’s go?” Dash said looking down at her for a second. “Do we need to go to Nate and Sophia’s?” Dash asked wondering if this was bigger than them, if they needed to lean on the Greyson’s in whatever was going on right now.

She wanted to explain who Ryder was but she simply couldn’t bring herself to talk right then. “He’s -- he’s just --” she stuttered, blinking her eyes as she tried to stop herself from tearing up. She nodded and quickly grabbed her bag, ready to get home safe. She began to walk towards the door, but paused and turned back to Dash at his question. “No.” she said, not entirely sure if that was true. All she knew was that she didn’t want to worry anymore people right then. “No, they don’t have to know about this. It’s not -- it’s okay -- I am just, really startled. I’ll be fine.”

“Oh fuck you’re right, I should have called Dash instead… but he might have gone all dad on me. You know, tell me to be careful and all that boring shit,” Chloe said. She shrugged at her question. “Wasn’t sure if you were up for partying?” She did noticed that Lily had been a little distance the past few days - not distance with her specifically, but in general. She didn’t want to pressure her to come drinking and party if she wasn’t up for it. “And hey, if any of these people you don’t want to see even glance your way, I will set their ass on fire. Just let me know,” she wrapped her arm around Lily’s shoulder. “I got your back girl. Who do I have to set on fire tonight?”

“Sounds like him.” she chuckled. “But once you manage to convince him, he would also get things done.” Her smile faltered when she commented on how she had seemed the past few days, of course Chloe had noticed. She always did even if Lily tried hard to hide it from her when she is upset. “I am  fine now.” she said reassuringly, not wanting to worry her about the ghosts of her pasts making it into Hollow grove. “You’re really ready to fight, aren’t you? How much did you drink?” he asked her, sounding very amused.

“Yeah, I did, and you looked fantastic.” Tessa tried to focus on that part of the Blood Moon, not the horror that happened later. As much as the past informed them, she felt no need to let it rule her life. She was just happy, at the moment, to see her cousin full of such life. “C’mon, Lils. I want to help you get ready. Do your hair like we used to when we were kids.” She pouted softly. “I promise not to go overboard. Really.”

“I did, I got too many compliments that night. Ended up spilling wine on this weird dude who looked like he wanted to kill me though.” she chuckled. The events of the night was horrifying, but she did enjoy the time before it all went down and Chase had taken her to the hospital. “Fine.” she gave in with a small laugh. “But if I think it’s too much, I am going to make you do over.”

It had been a bit of a crazy few days for Lily -- what with an unwanted encounter with Liam, soon to be followed by an equally unwanted but a far more terrifying encounter with Ryder, it was safe to say that she was a bit of a mess. She had  been taking days off at work, which was something she rarely did, and had herself shut in her room barely even talking much to anyone except Dash occasionally, before she decided that she couldn't go on like this for much longer. She needed to get out and about instead of letting herself spiral over what she couldn’t control. And when she thought of someone who would calm her, the first person who came to her mind was Sophia. She was the closest thing she had to a mother now and Lily was always in awe of how the woman could handle anything thrown at her with grace. She only wished someday, she would come to be as calm and composed as her even in the face of adversity. She quickly dressed and made her way to her place, picking up a few muffins on her way, and was at her door with as bright a smile as she could manage. “Hi, I thought you could use some of Luna’s blueberry muffins.” she said once the door had been opened. @sophianygaard

A small chuckle left her lips at her question. “What if I say I did not miss you, that I did not even think about you when I walked in here?” she teased right back. “I actually just came to see you -- it’s been a while and I wanted to make sure you’re okay.” With triggering her curse and her brother’s return, a brother whom she knew she did not have a good relationship with, Mel was going through a lot, and she wanted to be there for her in any small way she could be. And also find a way to be distracted from the fact that Ryder was in town. “I wouldn’t mind having something sweet while I’m here though. Where’s the dessert menu?”

“Hi Lily.” Melody greeted with a smile, leaning against the counter. “Are you…here to eat?” she questioned, cocking her head to the side as she looked at her friend. There was still so much she didn’t understand about the lifeways of vampires. “Or just because you missed me?” she teased.

Tessa moved to sit down on the bed, starting to go through the pile of clothes that were supposed to be her’s. Mine, mine, Chloe’s, Chloe’s… but now it’s mine, Mine. She glanced over at her cousin, smiling as she saw the cute pink dress she had in front of her. “You never wear that color, Lils.” She moved to look around at the room, trying to find some shoes to go with it. “But it’s cute. I think you should go for it. You’re a new woman. Make a change.” She quickly moved from the bed, rifling through the different accessories Lily had. “We’re going to do you up for that party.” 

Lily chuckled when her cousin sneakily stole one of Chloe’s tops for herself, not that she thought Chloe would mind. “Yeah, I think the last I wore pink was on the night of the Blood Moon. Wait -- you forced me into that dress.” She shook her head, a small laugh leaving her lips, eyes widening a little when she said she was going to do her up. “No way.” she said, taking a few steps back. “I need no doing up. It’s just  party. You will not go over board, Tess!”

Tessa feigned shock at Lily’s words, her head falling back. “I am… offended. I’ve been betrayed. Lily, you’ve broken my heart.” She giggled a little as she straightened herself up, moving past her cousin to walk into her room. Glancing over at the clothes, she recognized a few… and some she did not. “Are you sure they’re all mine? That one on top looks like Chloe’s.” She handed over the small pile of clothes in her hand, passing them onto Lily. “Surprise! It’s your things. I figured I’d return them, as well.”

“Always so dramatic.” she chuckled before looking over at the clothes. “I don’t know, maybe? Just take what it yours, I’ll send pictures of the rest to Chloe and ask if they’re hers.” She laughed when Tessa handed her a pile of clothes too most of which seemed to be hers, none of which she had worn before. She should probably try wearing it sometime. “How about this dress to Chloe’s party?” Lily said, picking up a cute pink dress and showing it to her. “Not my usual colour, but I guess I should take your advice and wear different things once in a while?”

“Hey. This is my house, therefore my rules,” Chloe corrected her, but a moment later she smiled. “And the rules say… if there is music you must dance!” She said the last part loud enough for several others to overhear her, giving them a flirtatious wink of encouragement in hopes that they would join in on the dancing. But not with the two of them, she wanted them to dance far away so she could dance just with her Lily. At this point, she had some drinks already, but not enough to be plastered. Just a light enough buzz to keep her energy up. She beamed at Lily as they danced and talked. “Why thank you. Mark tried helping me, but honestly he’s useless. Complained the whole time. But it’s amazing what the good old grapevine can do. I just told people to invite others and now look! My house is flooded.”

Lily’s eyes widened when she seemed like she was going to refuse, but a laugh left her lips when she finished her sentence. “We wrote the rulebook together, of course that’s what it says.” she said teasingly. Lily had been drinking a little more than usual that night, having needed a distraction desperately after her past had come knocking at her door, but alcohol was doing it’s job in making her forget her fears. “Of course he complained all the time, guys hate organizing things. They just want to wreck it all up. Unless it’s Dash. You should have asked Dash instead.” she chuckled. “And why didn’t you call me for help?” she asked although, maybe she had -- Lily had been cooped up in her room for a couple days now. “Yes, I love it, although I see people I don’t want to see here too.” she added with a small sigh and roll of her eyes.

“Leave?” he repeated. He took a step back, barking out a laugh. “Oh I always knew I would have fun with you,” he said, wagging his finger at her as if he was taunting a child. He circled around, placing his hands in his pockets as he faced her. “Why would I leave?” He leaned against one of the counters that displayed jewelry. Any hint of a smile left his face now. “You owe me,” he said, all humour gone from his voice and replaced with a dark undertone. “And I always collect what is due. You do not want to know what happens if you don’t.” As quickly as it came, a smile appear back on his face. “But today is your lucky day, puppet. This is just a… house call. Make sure you are okay and all.”

Every instinct in her body was screaming at her to make a run for it but she simply couldn’t -- the fear had made her freeze on spot and she unable to move, unable to even breathe when he walked around her, taunting her, clearly having his fun. She shivered when he said that she owed him. “What do you want?” she whispered but he seemed in no mood to ask for anything, he literally was here simply to let her know that he has arrived and she will have to pay soon for making a deal with the devil. “I don’t believe you. I don’t believe you’re here for no reason. Just tell me what you want from me. Or leave me alone.”

Dash had been finishing up a shift when he noticed the voicemail on his phone. Grabbing his bags he headed to the car, listening to the voicemail. Hearing Lily’s panicked voice he found his steps quickened as hopped into his truck now tossing his bag into the passenger seat and starting the truck with such haste. Pealing out of the parking lot he drove without thought across town to the store. He had no idea what was going on, it was hard to hearing anything beyond that she needed him and she was at the store. Pulling up in front of the store, the truck was barely stopped when Dash was jumping out of it and running inside. Pushing the door open. “Lily!” Dash called in a panicked tone. “Lily!” He called finding her in a chair rather quickly. “Hey, hey, are you okay? What’s going on?” Dash asked rapid-fire in a slight panic. Looking around he was looking for any sign of a struggle or any sign of danger.  

She almost screamed when Dash dashed rushed inside but was quickly relieved to see that it was just him. “Oh my God, you scared me.” she said, but her voice was clear with relief as she threw herself onto him, hugging him tight and in that moment she had absolutely no intention of letting him go. “I’m okay, I’m okay.” she whispered, “I am just -- there’s this vampire, Ryder,” -- a shiver ran down her spine just on speaking his name -- “I know him from.. before. And he’s in town and he came to see me and.. I don’t know what to do, Dash. I am scared. I don’t know why he’s here and what he wants with me.” She was speaking fast, her fear obvious in her eyes as she told him about the dark-haired vampire. “Can you take me home? I don’t want to be out.. I want to just go home. Please.”

“Yes I fucked up before, and I  know I did. I never never wanted to hurt you… I thought it was… The details don’t matter now.” He rang his fingers through his hair in order to give himself a moment to calm down. He was never sure what he wanted from Lily. But at the same time, she wasn’t the only one that lost. Yes, he was a complete fool, a complete idiot to put her through what he did, to believe the other person. But then he also had to go through the whole process of losing her, of trying to get her back… And when he was finally content, when he was finally better, she came back. “How am I making it worse? By wanting to talk to you? By wanting you to know what you’ve done all those years? I was here, I never fucking left. I don’t want to make it worse, I want to make it better. Cause you’re… “ He cut himself off before words fell out of his mouth without permission. There was so much he wanted to say, but he felt he didn’t have the right to. And he knew exactly when it was that he lost that right, the right to her, and it still made his heart clench. 

He had to laugh at her words. “Don’t I know that. And was she really gone just then? Just the moment all that shit happened to you?” Liam didn’t even want to imagine the thing that happened to her, only the thought made the veins on his neck pop out in anger. If he ever got his hands on the ones who did it… He would make them suffer. But he was getting ahead of himself. “Yes you were the angel that walked the ground but Lily, we lived for three years and you never really devoted yourself to me, now did you.” He wanted to be so careful here, so careful as not to mention the family she no longer had, but her,  in her being,  “I got the apartment for us, yet you refused to live with me. It’s like you were always expecting me to leave. Always pushing me to be… |soemthing that I wasn’t. I was devoted to you, I gave you everything I had and I could have had and what I got was half of you, the girl who always had one foot out the door.” Liam swore under his breath, yet he looked up into her eyes. He was still in pain. The fact that they never talked about it, made everything seem just the fresher.

He let another chuckle escape the back of his throat at her words. “It’s fine. We live in a world where that’s… Simply fine.” His shoulders lifted in a shrug. “Well, On founders day, I was having my coffee, my food, in the place that I really love. And she showed up. She sat down and we had breakfast. Some snarky comments, here and there… But… Yeah, she was there, in the flesh, easily… Well, what can “I say getting the right order coffee made her stay.” 

A mirthless laugh left her lips and she shook her head, looking at him, unsure if to be exasperated or infuriated by him. “Do you hear yourself? You never wanted to hurt me? You never wanted to hurt me? Is that why you cheated on me? You’re unbelievable, Liam. You do shit and then expect everything to be sunshine and rainbows again like as if your mistakes shouldn’t have consequences.” She scoffed, continually shaking her head. She didn’t want to have this conversation with him, it was pathetic that after so many years his betrayal still hurt just as much as the day she had found out about it. “Yes, by wanting to talk to me. Seriously, what is there to talk? What has happened has happened. We can’t change any of it. And how do you propose to make it better? Pretend like it never happened? Say that I am overreacting to your mistakes? You want me to forget all of it and act like we are friends just because what.. you never fucking left? What does that even mean?” Her anger was getting the better of her and she wanted nothing more than to simply disappear but words seemed to fall from her lips without her consent. “It’s all about you, isn’t it? Do you even care about how I felt? How I feel now? No, because that would mean thinking about something other than yourself for one second and you are not capable of doing that!” 

She glared at him coldly when he spoke of her time away from Hollowgrove. “You want to laugh about that, huh?” she said, her eyes blazing with anger now. “Do you even know what I had to go through? Among other things, and I mean a lot of other things,” -- a humourless laugh left her lips -- “they made me believe I killed my family. My parents. Hunter. Susie, Tommy. They made me believe I tore them apart.” Her eyes glazed over as her mind went back to those dark times when she had hated herself more than anything, every moment waiting for the pain to end but it never did. “I had to fight every second of those years just to survive.” Her voice had lowered, it was barely a whisper now. “And you didn’t even come to see me when I got back here. You didn’t even give me a call.” 

She winced when he spoke of how she never trusted him enough when they were together, when he was devoted to her. But his devotion had an expiry date. “Well, I don’t have my family to steal me from you anymore.” she deadpanned, her words lacking any kind of emotion. “So maybe we should give it a try again. Maybe this time I’ll be good enough for you and you won’t go find a solution to my shortcomings in some other girl’s bed.” She knew she was hurting him, but so had he, and she didn’t care. Or rather, she shouldn’t care -- but Lily never knew how to not care. Her voice grew softer as she looked up at him again. “I know I put my family before you but.. I was like, twenty two, Liam. It was too early to.. settle. And I was scared. I was scared something will happen and we won’t work out. And I will lose you and.. I wasn’t wrong, was I?” She let out a deep breath, she was tired of this, tired of arguing about what had happened so many years ago. Some say wounds heal with time but this wound seemed to have festered. And it hurt even more. 

She blinked, completely confused when he spoke of her cousin, this wasn’t something she had expected to be dealing with at all. Tessa had always been vocal about how much she detested Liam and she didn’t think she would have spared him the time of her day but apparently she had. She didn't know what that was supposed to mean or what to think. What did he mean snarky comments? “You’re just making stuff up to distract me from the real problem. Which is you.” she said weakly. It shouldn’t matter, her cousin shouldn’t matter -- the problems they had were between the both of them and as much as she was close to her, she was an outsider when it came to them and she wanted it to stay that way.

Liam grinned widely at her ad simply shrugged his shoulders. He wasn’t going to argue about something that was quite possibly true. “Ah yes. The times were better. You didn’t bite me, I wasn’t walking around to sexy.” He winked at her. Just then a friend of his was coming towards them with two shots in his hands. “ Bro, you drink or you go.” He gave one to Liam and the other to Lily. Turning to her he chuckled. “It is a party, after all, so cheers?” Necking his shot, he placed the empty cup on the table. “Does it matter who invited me? I’m here. It’s not that I’m going to leave now. Might as well enjoy my company.” 

She rolled her eyes at him when he winked at her, but couldn’t help the smile which crept up on her lips. She quickly took a sip of her drink to hide it from him. And thankfully one of his friends appeared out of nowhere with shots right then. She shrugged when he gave her the shot, downing it in one go, not really thinking anymore about how much she was drinking. She usually wasn’t the type to drink this much, but it was difficult days with a crazy vampire after her. Not that he’s gonna be able to come here.. or so she hoped. Chloe must have some sort of witchy spelly protections around the house, right? “I suppose it doesn’t matter. But the real question here is, do the people who have the displeasure of your company, AKA me, think you should be kicked out or not.”
