Editorial cartoons are tied to the technology that produces them, whether it is a printing press or the Internet.Editorial cartoons are published in a mass medium, such as a newspaper, news magazine, or the Web.Editorial cartoons are part of a business, which means that editors and/or managers may have an impact on what is published.Editorial cartoons must use a visual and verbal vocabulary that is familiar to readers. They are intended to make readers think about current political issues. Editorial cartoons, like written editorials, have an educational purpose. That means that they are produced under restricted time conditions in order to meet publication deadlines (often 5 or 6 per week). Editorial cartoons are based on current events. In addition, the editorial cartoon usually, but not always, reflects the publication’s viewpoint. Newspaper editorial cartoons are graphic expressions of their creator’s ideas and opinions.Interpreted and wrote by Samuel Kirkland, Missionary.Īmerican archives : consisting of a collection of authentick records, state papers, debates, and letters and other notices of publick affairs, the whole forming a documentary history of the origin and progress of the North American colonies of the causes and accomplishment of the American revolution and of the Constitution of government for the United States, to the final ratification thereof…, Peter Force, ed. Signed by the Chief Warriors of the Oneida: William Sunoghsis, Viklasha Watshaleagh, William Kanaghquassea, Peter Thayehcase, Germine Tegayavher, Nickhes Ahsechose, Thomas Yoghtanawca, Adam Ohonwano, Quedellis Agwerondongwas, Handerchiko Tegahpreahdyen, John Skeanender, Thomas Teorddeatha. We, the sachems, warriors, and female governesses of Oneida, send our love to you, brother Governour, and all the other chiefs in New-England. Let us Indians be all of one mind, and live in peace with one another, and you white people settle your own disputes betwixt yourselves.īrothers! We have now declared our minds please write to us that we may know yours. We hope, through the wise government and good pleasure of God, your distresses may soon be removed, and the dark cloud be dispersed.īrothers! As we have declared for peace, we desire you will not apply to our Indian brethren in New-England for their assistance. We Indians can not find nor recollect in the traditions of our ancestors the like case or a similar instance.īrothers! For these reasons possess your minds in peace, and taken umbrage that we Indians refuse joining in the contest we are for peace.īrothers! Was it an alien, a foreign Nation, which struck you, we should look into the matter. The present situation of you two brothers is new and strangetous. Should the great King of England apply to us for our aid, we shall deny him. We are unwilling to join one other side in such a contest, for we bear an equal affection to both of you, Old and New-England. The quarrel seems to be unnatural you are two brothers of one blood. We cannot intermeddle in this dispute between two brothers. We wonder greatly, and are troubled in our minds.īrothers! Possess your minds in peace respecting us Indians. Now we more immediately address you, our brother, the Governor and the Chiefs of New-England.īrothers! We have heard of the unhappy differences and great contention betwixt you and old England. We earnestly recommend them to your charity through their long journey. We Oneidas are induced to this measure on account of the disagreeable situation of affairs that way and we hope, by the help of God, that they may go and return in peace. This declaration hints at the Oneida conceptions of their own sovereignty among the Six Nations confederacy, the independence of other Native American nations, and how the Oneida understand the conflict as a war “between two brothers.” Samuel Kirkland, a missionary living in Iroquois country, interpreted and transcribed the Oneida’s words and sent them to Governor Jonathan Trumbull of Connecticut.Ī Speech of the Chiefs and Warriors of the Oneida Tribe of Indians, to the four New-England Provinces, directed to Governour Trumbull and by him to be communicated:Īs our younger brothers of the New-England Indians, (who have settled in our vicinity) are now going down to visit their friends, and to move up parts of their families that were left behind, with this belt by them, we open the road wide, clearing it of all obstacles, that they may visit their friends and return to their settlements here in peace. The Oneida nation, one of the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), issued a formal declaration of neutrality on Jto the governor of Connecticut after the imperial crisis between Great Britain and their North American colonies erupted into violence.

The taller viewing area also meant that stuff on the walls would still be visible when I was looking at the table.įield of view has been a big limiter in AR glasses: Existing hardware has a restricted zone where AR effects can appear, and outside of that box, they disappear from view. One thing I immediately noticed was that the wider viewing area allowed me to get closer to the table while still seeing everything on it. (I gathered at a similar round table for a HoloLens 2 demo back in 2019 at Microsoft's Redmond headquarters, too.) The demo, which was made using satellite data and meant to represent a potential use for how AR can represent large-scale map data and multiple virtual monitors at once, turned the round table into a 3D landscape, while the monitors on the walls provided extra simultaneous streams of data. My first demo showed a familiar holographic situation-room-type experience, a common style of demo for AR. There's no way to easy illustrate the headset's dimming, but it feels like AR glasses turned into sunglasses. But the most notable thing is a feature I've never seen before on any AR headset or glasses: The lenses can dim the outside world, becoming a pair of blackout sunglasses that AR can display on top of. Plus, the Magic Leap 2's field of view is notably larger, showing more holographic objects in front of me in a taller, wider area that isn't as cut off on the sides. It's not phone-connected like Qualcomm's upcoming AR glasses: It's stand-alone, but with that hip pack as part of its package.Īll of these parts feel upgraded. And there's still a handheld, wireless, pointer-style controller. It uses an AMD-based processor this time, which Johnson says is more powerful than the previous Nvidia-based chipset. They still tether to a processor box, which is large and hums loudly as it clips onto my belt. There's a pair of goggle-eyed glasses, which unfortunately don't work over my own prescription glasses. But this Magic Leap 2 headset I wore is real, if relatively similar in concept to the original. Then-CEO Rony Abovitz showed me a table with a cloth over it back in 2018, claiming the Magic Leap 2 was under it. It takes the combined effort of courageous, hardworking and adventurous people of all backgrounds who want to help build the future.Promises of Magic Leap's next-gen hardware have been around since, well, my first visit. We are looking for artists and engineers, dreamers and explorers, scientists and storytellers. Headquartered in sunny South Florida and with offices around the globe, we are a company of people who see and do things a little differently. We know it sounds impossible, but that’s kind of the point.

So imagine music you can see and touch, movie screens that can be put anywhere, and games that pour into your living room with characters that take over your couch. One that frees the digital content from behind screens and brings it into the world around us, making everything from shopping to entertainment to communication and productivity better and more natural. One that’s lightweight, wearable and capable of changing the way we experience the world. So, naturally, the journey starts with building a totally new kind of computer. #Oregon grape skin
aquifolium is the state flower of Oregon. It was introduced horticulturally from the Pacific Northwest into Europe in 1822 and is considered an unfamiliar invasive species there, having been particularly successful in central and eastern Germany. Mahonia aquifolium is native to western North America from British Columbia to California and eastward to Idaho and Montana. The flowers provide a food source for insect pollinators and berries are eaten by small birds.Mahonia aquifolium commonly known as Oregon-grape is a species of flowering plant of barberry family (Berberidaceae). Plants containing berberine should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The flowers are edible and can be used to make a lemonade drink or sorbet.Ĭare should be taken when collecting the berries, because the shrub has big thorns. Oregon Grape is also ideal for cordial, as the cooked berries taste a bit like Blackcurrant. The small purple berries of Mahonia spp are quite tart and contain large seeds, but are suitable to make jam, jelly and sauce. Culinary uses and recipes with Oregon Grape
#Oregon grape skin
Oregon grape is also used to treat chronic inflammatory or infected skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis or acne. It also may improve cholesterol levels and it’s used for the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Though there is ongoing research, berberine contained in the roots and stems seems to slightly reduce blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. These flowers are followed by racemes of small purple berries covered in a light bloom, which are edible. This evergreen bush is popular in urban parks and council gardens, because it’s a low-maintenance shrub with perfumed yellow flowers that blooms during the winter, when nothing else is flowering. Oregon Holly Grape is not closely related to either holly or grape, though the leaves do look like a holly. The berries of Holly are bright red in colour unlike the purple berries of Oregon Grape. Holly ( Ilex sp.) leaves look similar but the growth habit is different. The berries hang in clusters too, and are purplish-black, covered in a light bloom. The flowers are small and bright yellow in colour, hanging in dense clusters above the leaves. The leaves are pinnate and each leaf is made up of spiny leaflets, looking just like a holly leaf. Oregon Grape is an evergreen shrub growing up to 1 m. (Season is quite variable depending on species and location). When to find Oregon Grapeįlowers early winter to mid spring and berries mid summer to early autumn. Parks, gardens, hedges and occasionally spread to woodlands. Oregon grape is a native plant in the North American West. Oregon Grape, Oregon Holly, Oregon Holly Grape, Hollyleaved Barberry, Mountain Grape, Mahonia Botanical name

NYTIMES NEWSLETTERS SERIES
Then on Saturday, as police were clearing out the remaining protesters, it ran a headline suggesting “police arrested demonstrators at gunpoint” despite that happening only once when police suspected explosives were inside a vehicle. First, they claimed in a tweet that the invocation of the Emergencies Act was a de facto suspension of civil liberties, one that it eventually walked back after nearly every constitutional expert in Canada pointed out its mistake. On two separate occasions, the Times made fundamental errors of fact that skewed the way millions of people saw what was unfolding in Ottawa. Instead of serving as a crucial bulwark against the spread of misinformation and populist fear-mongering, it’s now unintentionally aiding and abetting it. Now that Canada is having its own Trump-esque moment, one that’s been amplified by the Trumpist instruments of Fox News and Facebook, the Times appears to have abandoned its post. The company is continually innovating and trying different tools to engage its audience to make their news products “stickier.” Newsletters focused on specific topics of reader interest could help engage subscribers into more active readers rather than passive subscribers.During the four long years of Donald Trump’s presidency, many Canadians looked to the New York Times as an important beacon of reason and decency. While that is 80% of its goal, growth is slowing and COVID remains an unknown factor. At the end of the second quarter of 2021, The Times reported total subscribers of 8 million. The company set a goal of reaching 10 million subscribers by 2025, and they will easily hit that goal. Support subscriber growthĪnother reason The Times wants to leverage paid newsletters is that it will help the company continue its subscriber growth.
NYTIMES NEWSLETTERS PROFESSIONAL
Substack said it would use the funding to expanding its financing program to help writers start their own media businesses help writers succeed using the subscription model invest in initiatives that support local news and reporting create an infrastructure to support independent writers with professional services develop more robust subscription-publishing tools and build an internal team to better support their creators.
NYTIMES NEWSLETTERS SERIES
This spring, the company announced it had raised $65 million in Series B funding. Though Twitter and Facebook have deep pockets, Substack seems to be the service to beat. It has been so successful that Twitter bought newsletter platform Revue earlier this year, and Facebook has recently launched its own version of Substack called Bulletin. Substack, which has wooed top writers and journalists, has become a top platform for independent writers who want to retain editorial control and monetize their work while growing their audiences. Perhaps the most obvious reason for paid newsletters is they are the shiny new toy. After the first year, that price increases to about $200 a year. Digital subscribers to The Times will be able to access the newsletters online for about $1 a week. Some newsletters will remain free.Īccording to Bloomberg, existing newsletters that will go behind a paywall include “Parenting,” “Smarter Living,” “Watching,” and “On Soccer with Rory Smith.” In addition, The Times will add seven new newsletters to the mix, including a few written by well-known journalists like Kara Swisher, Jay Caspian Kang and Peter Coy. The newsletters will cover a variety of topics including everything from politics and economics to technology and lifestyle. Eighteen newsletters – including existing newsletters and new ones – will go behind a paywall. Bloomberg reports that The Times currently produces about 50 newsletters that reach about 15 million readers weekly. is investing resources into paid newsletters, allowing the legacy media organization to compete with services like Substack, Twitter and Facebook.

Mat: Can we all take a minute to congratulate Madcap Riddick Moss for his Andre The Giant Battle Royale win. Still, what we got was pretty good and the crowd was alive and well for it. It's unfortunate because this match seemed like a layup for a fantastic start to the show that was seemingly cut short. There's no telling how bad the injury is, but medics were at ringside with him through the end of the match. What's not to enjoy? Unfortunately, this match started off with what looked like a legitimate injury to Rick Boogs that took him out of the match. evil and four seriously entertaining wrestlers. Having this match kick off Mania is the right call. Get better, Boogs.Ĭhris: Even at Wrestlemania, Pat McAfee has a dance in his heart when Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs make their way to the ring, and I love him for it. That moment seemed to throw a wrench into what could have been a really great match-as The Usos are a brilliant tag team-but because of the injury, this match wasn't able to really deliver the way it should have. At first, I didn't think it was real, but from the looks of the press box, there's been medics with him the whole time. I love Rick's feats of strength that make no sense but are a delight to watch-up until Boogs hurts his knee. Is it a good boozy drink? Not by any means, but I'm happy someone is giving Boogs money to play guitar. Boogs was also sponsored by adult, alcoholic lemonade. Also, Boogs kicks off the evening, which is special. Peak,” I whispered, “We still feel those prayers.” We do. I told her of the letters and texts and prayers and support we have passed back and forth among this tiny group. “All the teachers were praying for you.”ĭuring our hour-long call-during which we shared news of each family and student we knew in common, babies born, moves, new jobs-I told her how it has been this small school community that has sustained me throughout the pandemic. “It wasn’t just me,” she was quick to say. She was glad I called, as she had just asked my junior high English teacher, Miss Miller, whom she meets for coffee once a week, if she had received a Christmas card from me. She keeps a rigid schedule of prayer, church, exercise and daily visits with friends at local coffee shops. She answered the phone breathless, as she said she was just arriving home from a weekly visit to Starbucks. This year, I did not send Christmas cards, but I reached out to her before I received her typed note. She will send me a note-typed on a typewriter, then pasted into a notecard-asking if all is well. The years I do not send her a Christmas card, she will worry. She is often seen riding her bike through my hometown. There is something truly beautiful about a shared history overlapping with the mystical connection of the body of Christ. We, too, prayed for one another and pointed one another toward Christ and his love and mercy and hope and in doing so, we sustained one another. We might have not talked to each other for years, but as the world turned to chaos, we began to surface-in texts and Facebook groups, in FaceTime calls and snail mail-and as we reunited, we also remembered Mrs. I pray that they will know Christ and his love for them. Peak whispered in love, who sustained me. But in the last two years, when our faith seemed to be on the defensive, it has been those same names, the ones Mrs. Many of us struggled with our faith through the years, some even falling away for a spell. We are in our late 40s, with children and mortgages and midlife cars. Peak’s math class are all grown up now, too. She spoke of the goodness she had seen in him as a child and the remnant that remained in his adulthood. She gave his eulogy when no one else, myself included, wanted to. And she understood the battle that raged within him. She remembered who he was as a child and who he hoped to be. There was no one to speak at the funeral his wife held mostly for internet friends who had known only one side of him. The cycle of abuse spiraled until, by the time he died at age 53, he had destroyed nearly all his relationships. But he attempted to balance the monsters that tormented him with alcohol and drugs. Did it begin with his own abuse? I do not know. My father loved Christ very much, but his mental health was always on a precipice. The love, care and respect he had for her knew no rival. My father attended that tiny little Christian school. She believed in things unseen and knew there was a battle going on for our very souls. Peak knelt there with a posture that seemed to define the word fortitude, as if she knew precisely, in exact terms, that our God would answer her prayers. The choice to look so utterly ridiculous could have been motivated only by love. We knew we were witnessing something holy. She moved without artifice and with a humility we had not seen in any other person. Peak knew that we saw her, as hundreds of students, including my own father, had done during her decades of teaching. Even at this Christian school where we were taught and encouraged to pray, we students found her ritual as strange as it was sacred. It was spoken of in whispers in the hallways. Each morning, without fail, you would see my teacher praying over the names in her roll book.Īs students, we all knew this. You would see her place her open grade book on that chair and then kneel on a small, orange carpet square. Peak pull out her wooden desk chair to the middle of the room. Peak, you would witness a quiet and astonishing moment. If you were to arrive early to the campus of my junior high and peek through the classroom window of my math teacher, Mrs.

This could be aliased behind a one word command to a shell script of its own, but this seems as good a place to prune as now.I previously recommended a method of using the Orthographic camera, setting the rotation to 0 degrees on every axis, creating a "dimension sheet" mesh plane the size of the paper you were going to print it on and adjusting the Orthographic scale until it frames the "dimension sheet", then if assuming a render resolution of 150 DPI, one would multiply the paper dimension (let's say width was 8.5") 8.5 x 150 = 1275 pixels by (length 11")ġ1 x 150=1650 pixels and make that the render window size (1275 pixels by 1650 pixels), then output the render, HOWEVER, I see in Blender 2.91 that the original Orthographic Scale I recommended previously (0.279) no longer frames the "dimension sheet" perfectly. Running from the CLI, simply pass in the ‘-P’ flag and the relative path to the script: blender -P. Fortunately, Blender makes it easy to execute a Python script at launch. But that would still mean a good bit of clicking around to go into the Scripting workspace, load it up and execute. Now this script can be run within any project and it will set things up to model for export to 3D Printing. As a safeguard, in case this script gets called on a file with more objects already created, the call to the delete method is wrapped behind a conditional and will not fire if there are more than 3 objected selected.įinally, all that’s left is to call the functions: config_units() config_viewports() enable_print_util() remove_default_objects() This helper function is optional, but works simply enough - selecting all objects in the scene (to include Default Light & Default Camera) and deleting them. Long-suffering Default Cube gets it again. def remove_default_objects(): _all(action=’SELECT’) if len(C.selected_objects) 1000mm -> 100000mm def enable_print_util(): is_enabled, is_loaded = check(PRINT_UTIL) if is_enabled and is_loaded: return try: _enable(module=PRINT_UTIL) except: print(f"ERR: Error loading ") finally: return View Sidebar: Clip End has unit attached. Mass is helpful to set if you’re modeling moving parts, gears, for example, and plan to use an animation to check their smooth operation. Equivalent to updating ‘Unit Scale’, ‘Length’, and ‘Mass’ on the ‘Scene Properties’ panel. def config_units(): C.scene.unit_settings.scale_length = SCALE_LENGTH C.scene.unit_settings.length_unit = LENGTH_UNIT C.scene.unit_settings.mass_unit = MASS_UNIT “C” and “D” are Blender Python standards to alias “bpy.context” and “bpy.data”, objects which get used… frequently. The “addon_utils” functions will get used to enable the 3D Printing tools. Remove Default Scene objects import bpy from addon_utils import check, enable C = bpy.context D = bpy.data SCALE_LENGTH = 0.001 LENGTH_UNIT = ‘MILLIMETERS’ MASS_UNIT = 'GRAMS' CLIP_END = 100000 PRINT_UTIL = “object_print3d_utils” Ensure that the official 3D Print Tools Add-on is enabledĥ. Configure the Viewports to display at the updated scaleĤ. Change the Scene scale & units from Meters to Millimetersģ.

For full debugging, you’ll have to tab over to the CLI where Blender was launched. The default workspace includes a Console and an Info Panel that reflects the underlying Python executed by actions taken in the GUI. It’s also worth going into Edit > Preferences > Interface and enabling the Python Tooltips checkbox. Because this will vary with OS, check Blender’s documentation for yours: Launching from the Command Line.įor convenience, all of the screenshots I’m including show the Blender Scripting environment - but any text editor works. Finally, turns out this is a pretty good way to start learning the Blender Python API.įor full access to the debugging output generated in the Python script, launch Blender from the command line. I assume I’m not the only one, but even if that were the case, it would still be worth writing down these notes to help future-Jim.īlender is great for 3D Printing, but configuring the environment each time is tedious - and clicking back and forth between Blender and YouTube trying to remember all of the settings to change wasn’t cutting it.

Besides, writing this kind of boilerplate-useful code is 1000% the type of thing I tend to do, then forget how I did. Time to start changing both those conditions. Writing tutorials is good - and I haven’t been doing it repetitive clicky-draggy thing things are bad, and I’ve been doing it too much. Launch Blender for 3D Printing via Python

He then ventured north, recorded three further albums “Step Out!”, “Friday Night Again” (released in Denmark) and “Triple Echo” and mixed teaching with regular gigging around the region. Boyle recorded two solo albums for Gull Records, “The Dancer” and “Electric Glide”. The band split as a result of management problems and the demise of British Lion Music, an offshoot of British Lion Films. There was one last line-up change in 1977, with only Boyle surviving from previous personifications, alongside Geoff Downes on keyboards (later in YES and ASIA), Steve Shone on bass and Colin Wilkinson on drums, but this new ISOTOPE never went beyond the rehearsal stage, only recording a couple of radio sessions. Brown and second keyboardist Zoe Kronberger were added at that point, but gigs became sparser. In March 1976, a third album, “Deep End”, was recorded (production duties were handled by BRAND X’s Robin Lumley), with Hopper playing on only his own composition “Fonebone”. At that point, management problems resulted in a very difficult financial situation and Hugh Hopper decided to leave. In December 1975, Scott left and was replaced by Frank Roberts. Percussionist Aureo DeSouza was then added to the line-up for a European tour, and drummer Jeff Seopardie also reinforced the band for British dates later that year. Intensive touring in Britain followed, and a US tour was undertaken in March and April 1975. The writing was now shared equally between Boyle, Scott and Hopper. They then entered the studio, with Poli Palmer (ex-ECLECTION and FAMILY) producing, to record “Illusion”. The new line-up embarked on a UK tour in June and July, followed by dates in Germany and the Netherlands in August. They were replaced by Laurence Scott, a semi-pro keyboard player, and Hugh Hopper (formerly of SOFT MACHINE), whom Boyle had met while working with STOMU YAMASH'TA (Japanesse fusion band). Due to their success, it seemed that Brian Miller & Jeff Clyne were unable to handle the success, so they left in March of 1974. In the same poll ISOTOPE picked up fourth place in both LP of the year. Even guitarist Gary Boyle was voted top 3 guitarist in Britain during the time due to a poll in Melody Maker magazine. In 1974, they release their debut album, which is self-titled in 1974 & become quite critically acclaimed & fortunately, the band gained equal acclaim for their live performances. The band soon signed with Gull Records in England and Motown in the USA, and started touring colleges and clubs around Britain, as well as touring on the continent such as: France, Germany and Scandinavia. ISOTOPE are Jazz-Rock British based quartet formed in 1973 by guitarist, Gary Boyle with Nigel Morris (drummer), bass player Jeff Clyne (bass) (Jeff previously was a member of Ian Carr’s Jazz-Rock group: NUCLEUS) and Brian Miller (keyboards).
