One thing about the WGA Strike is that Onion article was kinda right. Hollywood shot themselves in the foot with their current standard of cancelling every show people like to produce more and more short-term novelty.

It’s not like we have tons of shows ending on cliffhangers waiting for season six anymore. Due to their greed, they’ve personally taken long-term viewer investment outside and shot it and now they can’t count on it for negotiating power. What are viewers going to be mad about missing out on? The Twilight reboot? Another Star Wars spin-off? Several promising pilot seasons on Netflix with great representation that were already produced and cancelled before they aired and would’ve been even if the strike hadn’t happened?

saw this thread and really loved it but what i liked most is that it taught this kid that if a book isn’t for you, even if you really want to like it, it’s okay to stop reading it and come back to it another time when you are ready. there were so many books i slogged through as a kid because i felt like i had to prove that i could read them since i *loved* reading so i simply had to finish this book or i didn’t actually love to read. silly, really. the more kids who don’t ascribe to that thinking the better. really great of both the dad and the librarian for giving the kid access to the stephen king book and allowing him make the decision on whether or not it was for him by himself.

if the parents don’t like the love interest: have scenes displaying how it feels for the love interest to have to see their partner scramble to convince their parents to like their partner. that cannot in any way shape or form go untalked about as the live interest probably feels humiliated, inferior, etc… also consider why the parents would dislike the love interest

a lot of people don’t have parents/good relationships w their parents so what if they broke the news to their friends :)

one of your characters doesn’t have parents to break the news to but their partner’s parents take them in as their own

My friends and I used to joke that we could just buy a huge house and essentially live in a commune together raising our kids. 

Now that we all work jobs in complimentary shifts and 3/4 couples in the group are engaged, we have actually began to discuss this possibility seriously. Currently the winning idea is getting 2 split-family homes together, which would provide us with equal parts privacy and communal space. Like, how much easier would your life be if you had more than one other person in the house to help you manage things? Deciding on dinner, babysitting, splitting bills, would all be so much less stress with more people to tackle the load. 

it seems so strange to me that the only people it is socially acceptable to live with (once you reach a certain stage in life) are sexual partners? like why can’t i live with my best friend? why can’t i raise a child with them? why do i need to have sex with someone in order to live with them? why do we put certain relationships on a pedestal? why don’t we value non-sexual relationships enough? why do life partners always have to be sexual partners?
