Although Buckingham Palace is a specific place and we frequently use the definite article to refer to something specific, that is not true of official names. For example, my name is David but you would not say "I learned English from the David," right? When we have a placename, we usually do not say "the" either. This is particularly true when the first word is another place or person's name and the latter part is a building or feature. For example: London Bridge Harvard University Edinburgh Castle Cologne Cathedral Sydney Harbour There are definitely some exceptions to this, so be careful. It is a tricky one.
