Okay so Nuffink as a wicked accent, but Zephyr does not. Does that mean it's genetic and it just skipped a generation? Did Nuffink inherit Stoick's accent?

Any thoughts on Astrid not being the romantic one? I don’t know how I feel about that. Does anyone have any headcannons on how she is romantic but not too mushy. Like I ADORE that Hiccup is the hopeless romantic but like ugh...I’m frustrated. I need a fic or something explaining how they feel or selmtging. ❤️😭

Here are some of my thoughts about this. When it is said that Astrid isn’t romantic…in my opinion, I don’t think that means that she isn’t romantic. 

I feel like this conversation has come up more since HTTYD3 so I will use some examples from it. 

When it’s said Astrid isn’t romantic it means that she isn’t the type of girl to remove the petals from a flower while sitting on her front porch and say, “he loves me…he loves me not…” lol. 

This girl/queen/woman loves Hiccup. And Astrid is tough and strong and a badass warrior queen but she is also sensitive. You can see that in the way she looks at Hiccup when he’s watching Toothless in the hidden world, when he finds out Toothless hasn’t come back yet…and so on. She is there for him and supports him and believes in him. 

And Astrid…she knows that Hiccup also loves her and supports her and believes in her. There is this comfort between the two where they know that they love and support one another. I asked the opinion of my awesome lovely friend @winxrus on this and she said, “There is this comfort…there is this assurance of each other’s love…there’s no need for grand gestures.” And I loved what she said here because it’s true.  

In my opinion, Astrid is romantic but in a more casual way. A more realistic way. A more subtle way. Example: BRAIDS. Grabbing his hand. Telling him that she’s proud of him. Pulling that silly boy in for a kiss. Pulling a pin out of some grenade thing while looking at him in a way that is not PG. She doesn’t need flowers and chocolate or any of that really silly cliche stuff. She’s romantic in a way that I love. It’s one of the things I love most about their relationship. They don’t make you want to poke your eyes out because everything is so cheesy. Their relationship is real.

here's what bugs me about people who don't want nico playing astrid:

everyone always says "they're scandanavian vikings" so the actors should stay true to that culture, but why does that argument only apply to nico? why aren't the rest of the cast questioned whether they're scandanavian or not? also, besides gerard, nico is ethnically closer to her character than the rest of the cast. she's literally european!

"She doesn't look like astrid" and that's a personal problem cause astrid's blonde hair and blue eyes were never significant to the story. you could make her brunette and nothing of her character would change.

everyone keeps coming up with some sort of excuse on why they don't want nico to play astrid, but tell me I'm wrong that if they casted a white girl who wasn't blonde or had blue eyes, everyone would just shrug their shoulders and not question a thing. she could literally be a south african white girl and I'm 100% sure no one will question her nationality/ethnicity in the slightest.

in fact the only thing people would say is "just give her a blonde wig and blue contacts!". oh but let it be nico and suddenly we care about historical accuracy of a FANTASY movie.

It happened spontaneously, but I love AU. So… Avatar Hiccup. Hiccup considered himself an ordinary person before meeting Toothless. (Dragons can be equated to spirits, i mean relationships between people and them). Then he discovered his talent as an airbender and Toothless became his teacher. Later, other talents were discovered, which made it clear that Hiccup was an avatar.

Astrid became his waterbender teacher. Snotlout was an adept of firebender, but he sincerely did not understand how to teach, because he himself used magic on a subconscious level. Fishlegs is an earthbender, but he did not go beyond the amateur level and could not become a teacher. The twins are always on their own wave. Ruffnut is a master in airbending and can perform techniques with clouds of gas, while Tuffnut is not a master, but is ready to set fire to the gas with his sparks at any moment. The twins always come in a set.

Brothers Grimborn! Lord of Fire Viggo. The aesthetics of blue flame and lightning were created for him. So I couldn't resist. The hottest flame and deadly techniques of lightningbending made him the most terrible opponent for the young avatar, but in the future, he will become the teacher of fire magic for Hiccup. I endowed Riker with explosion magic, as for me, it suits him perfectly. An explosive mixture of rage and bloodlust.

Berserkers! Remembering Viggo's words about how the berserkers in ancient times lured the Skrills with metal, I thought about a tribe practicing metalbending. Dagur discovered his talent for earth magic much later, including metal. I like to think that Dagur could be a threat to the avatar even as an ordinary person, relying on his ingenuity and physical strength. Heather is a master of earth and metal magic, she could well become Hiccup's teacher in this matter.

the gang running up to do a group hug when they find out hiccup and astrid are dating means literally EVERYTHING to me. it's genuinely one of my favorite moments of the entire franchise. i love the moments in rtte when you get to see that they really are just one little family, and despite all their teasing, annoyance, and arguments, they all love each other.

and hey families get on each other's nerves and fight all the time, but at the end of the day, those are the people who stick with you and are by your side every step of the way :))
