Stop Awkward Silence in Conversation - Go To Topics for Natural Conversation #EnglishConversation #Englishlesson #awkwardsilence What do you do when you have an awkward silence in a conversation. You have a backup topic that you can always talk about. Everyone should have a few topics that they are comfortable speaking on at any time. This is a good skill to have to prevent awkward silences. Let's practice this conversation strategy. Awkward silence in a conversation is the worst thing that can happen. You lose confidence in your ability to speak because you think that "the silence" is your fault. It isn't. Awkward silences are completely normal. So if you are prepared for them with a backup topic, you can be a great conversationalist.
Today's questions: What movie did you recently watch? Was it good? What was it about? How does the movie start? Then what happens? Wow. Then what? Was the ending good? Would you recommend that I see it too? What kind of movies do you normally watch?
Practice these conversation questions with me while you are alone. There is no pressure in my lessons, so you can relax and answer to the best of your ability.

(via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0d-xcqdQxV8) #WorldEnvironmentday #airpollution #conversationpractice In today's news, we will discuss World Environment Day. This year it is hosted in Beijing and the theme is Air Pollution. We will have a conversation about Air pollution and World Environment Day since it is so important to our future. It is also a great topic to discuss since every country suffers from air pollution. I am your English teacher Chris, and I am excited to have a conversation with you. The UN regards clean air as a basic human right, yet most people in the world breathe polluted air. Let's discuss air pollution and its effect on the world and the people in it. Let's have a conversation in English about how we can reduce air pollution and its causes. We will answer some questions from the article and talk about specific parts of the article to better understand what is happening on this year's World Environment Day. Always remember to wear your mask if you live in an area with heavy Air Pollution. I personally use a Vogmask because it is very comfortable and effective for filtering out fine air pollution particles. I highly recommend it to anyone in search of a comfortable mask. You can get yours here: https://amzn.to/2RgLyUJ
Let's use this news article and the information in it to start a discussion. We will use this to practice our conversation skills and discussion skills together. Remember to be respectful. Today's Questions: What is the theme of World Environment Day? List the basic human rights mentioned. Is the air in Beijing becoming more or less polluted? According to the UN, would reducing air pollution save money? Name three things you can do to minimize air pollution.
Key vocabulary: United Nations: international organization to help countries work together global: the whole world sanitation: public health needs such as clean water and disposal of human waste non-toxic: not poisonous biodiversity: how broad the range of plants and animals is rapporteur: independent expert obligations: the things you are supposed to do fundamental: the basic, important things at the foundation of something States: countries reaffirmed: state again strongly airborne: carried in the air constitution: basic set of laws and ideals of an organization or country
