Let's Talk Anxiety
The thing about anxiety is that it's often times overgeneralized, or misunderstood. People with social anxiety are seen as shy or antisocial, when they're not. I may be making a wrong connection, but social anxiety is similar to agoraphobia; the person who is anxious is often afraid to go out into a social setting in fear of an anxiety and/or panic attack.
All anxiety attacks, as I call them, usually produce an intense feeling of fear or panic. The person's chest tightens, the person becomes jittery, and they have an intense need to leave the situation. Scientifically speaking, the fight-or-flight response is taking place. The jitters come from the flight part.
My anxiety is triggered by words like death, heart, and breathing. It's weird, I know. I'm not sure how it came up like this, but it did. I don't necessarily question it. In fact, I try not to think about it.
Often times, I have anxiety induced insomnia, because I'm afraid I will die in my sleep. This relates to the family friend, because she died while she was in a coma.
There are so many other forms of anxiety. Often times, anxiety is tied to a phobia. For example, a lot of people are afraid of spiders, but there are some people who feel a feeling of impending doom if they ever encounter a spider, aka arachnophobia.
There are entire books dedicated to anxiety disorders and phobias. If I remember correctly, anxiety disorders are the most common form of mental illness. Often times, it stumps a person's rational abilities to act "normally" in social, or even private, settings.

I’ve always been told not to give in to peer pressure but I’ve never been told not to pressure my peers and I think that shows how dysfunctional society is

Abnormal Post
Instead of posting what I usually do, I want to just post two poems I wrote yesterday. Enjoy!
Mother
Roots you cannot see Nor know their origin A strong base That supports you as you climb Branches that let you reach the sun Shade to rest from the heat Blossoms that smell so sweet Fruit that gives you strength
What a perfect being To strive to be Strong, giving, loving What a perfect being to be
Scars
Ridges and grooves within the skin Telling a story so long forgotten Of battles fought and battles won Of silly falls and woken nightmares
They speak of times long since past To remind us where we come from To show us the lessons we have learned So we do not make the same mistakes
They show where we've been And maybe where we'll go They're beautiful things; Perfect imperfections

Holden Caulfield and Mental Illness.
So recently, in my English class, we just finished reading The Catcher in the Rye, and I think it's a wonderful book. But my class mates would like to disagree, mostly based upon Holden's character.
Often times while discussing the book, we commented on Holden's apparent mental illness. Often times people would think Holden's irrational behavior, extreme depression, and poor social skills were grounds to laugh at Holden.
I was very unnerved by this. I have experienced bouts of depression, anxiety, irrational behavior, and so forth. Really, I often related to Holden throughout the book. When they mocked him, I sort of felt like they were mocking me.
What they don't understand his how Holden truly felt. It's difficult to function properly with all these problems. And, I'll admit, I don't know how Holden felt either.  I could get a feel for it through Salinger's brillant writing, but no one can truly know how someone feels, exactly.
I just wish that my classmates wouldn't mock Holden so openly. For some people, they might have just played along because they were afraid of judgement (like me).
Mental illness is no laughing matter. It's a serious issue, and  it can't be played off simply by calling someone crazy.

Finals are Too Much
With graduation just around the corner, it's time to reflect on the past year, in the form of studying for finals that do not properly account for a child's intelligence, and destroy their mental capability for several weeks.
Finals are one of the worst ideas to come out of the school system. It's meant to evaluate if a child is on the intelligence level the should be at by the end of the year, but it does not do that at all.
Teens panic, cram, and, in that act, lose a crapton of information. By studying frantically the night before, students often forget important information as they study some of the complex concepts.
And teachers always say not to cram the night before and study over a period of time, but there is no other option when six other teachers are telling you the same thing, and handing out study guides that must be completed by such and such a time. Students have to sleep, students have work and sports. Students have responsibilities to there families.
I am a victim of this system. I was completely terrified for my APUSH test. I was crying and terrified because I, like many other students, have based my intellectual worth on a test that may or may not destroy my chances of my worth in this society.

Shailene Woodley and Feminism
"I love men," is, in retrospect, not a good argument on whether or not you are a Feminist, as actress Shailene Woodley has said to Time Magazine.
Feminism is a "radical" idea that women are people. Feminists should be advocating equality of the sexes, and this is what Woodley basically said in her interview. "I think the idea of 'raise women to power, take the men away from the power' is never going to work out because you need balance."
Well, Miss Woodley, that's what we're talking about. The Feminism you're thinking of comes from the radical Feminists. Just as every group has a radical figure head that, in all honesty, is a poor representation of the community, radical Feminists give the Feminist movement a bad name.
Radical feminist do advocate the take down of men, and having women be the dominant sex. Sadly, that's usually the only thing that comes to mind when thinking about Feminism. Not many think of equality of the sexes when they hear "feminism", but instead think of masculine females trying to "take down the patriarchy" (which, we are, but in a civil way).
So Miss Woodley, you, by definition, are a feminist. It's okay, we'll keep your secret.
*Edit: I meant to post this several days ago. Apparently I saved it as a draft instead of posting it. Oops.
