You remembered the shocking cold as it drifted over your skin, finding tiny crevices to slip through your heavy fur coat. You couldn’t remember how old you were exactly. Maybe seven? Eight? But you could remember the glass bottles, all filled with some murky liquid that the men were drinking. They were talking loudly in fluent German. You could understand them, of course, having lived in the country all your life. But they were discussing someone you didn’t know. They ignored you mostly. The only reason you were there was because Baron Strucker wouldn’t let you out of his sight.

A/N: This is loosely based on If The World Was Ending by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels. There’s like, a wee bit of angst in there, but it’s mostly okay.

Main Masterlist

The kettle was whistling. Next to the stove, little drops of water fell periodically from the tap into the sink. They made small ping noises as they hit the stainless steel basin. Accompanying it was another regular noise, as the second hand of the clock went round and round on its own merry path. A constant noise, no matter the hurricane happening in life, the clock goes on, completely unaffected by the changes around it. 

A female reporter was screaming something on the TV, a notable panic in her voice. Even from across the room, and despite the fact that she was on a screen, Bucky could see her hand trembling as it held the camera, and he wondered exactly how much she loved her job or how much she was getting paid that she agreed to be out in a situation like this, when monsters were literally descending from a hole in the sky. The same sky he had once loved gazing at when he was laying out on the balcony.
