I am alive and still working on this fic! I don’t know quite when the next chapter will be up but hopefully in the next week? Or so?? Past Niz left a lot of [write more words here] and [make this part not suck] in the rough draft and current Niz has a lot on her plate 😆 😅anyway thank you @carlossreaders and @lemonlyman-dotcom for the tags, and thank you everyone else who’s been tagging me in stuff!!

Owen follows her, and she gapes at him. “They asked for me, Owen, I don’t think Carlos is in the mood to meet his boyfriend’s father.”

“I’ve met Carlos before,” Owen argues, still following them. “And TK called me.”

“Oh, my god, you guys, I can hear you down the hall,” their son says, striding towards them, annoyed and tense as she’s seen him.

“Just having a discussion, honey,” she says, and TK rolls his eyes the way he always does when she lies to him.

“Whatever. Mom, come in here a second? Dad, I’ll be right out.”

She follows her son, resisting the urge to stick her tongue out at Owen. She’s proud of herself for her restraint, but TK doesn’t seem impressed.

Walking around with a toddler strapped to your leg like a koala with the deadweight of a bowling ball is difficult, impossible for most. But TK Strand’s husband does it easily, shooting him a smile from across the room as TK comes out of the bedroom with their toiletry bag and the black boots he wants to wear tomorrow night.

“Come on, Jo, why don’t you give Papa a break?” TK says. Jonah just shakes his head and buries his face in Carlos’s thigh.

“Jonah and Papa going to the moon,” he mumbles. “TK get my space helmet! We need to find Mr. Shark.”

“Okay my sweet little space explorer,” Carlos says. “Maybe when Abuela gets here she’ll take you on a rocket ride. You can hunt for moon rocks and meet all the space sharks.”

“We need to bring him a blanket,” Jonah says solemnly. Releasing his grip on Carlos’s leg just enough so Carlos can free himself and crouch down to his level.

“A blanket, huh? Why’s that, mijo?” He ruffles a hand through Jonah’s hair, cradling the crown of his head so he can lean forward and nuzzle a kiss to his temple.

“It’s cold on the moon, Papa,” Jonah whispers. He pats his little fingers to Carlos’s cheek and smiles in the mischievous way that’s always sure to melt Carlos’s heart.

“Okay,” Carlos whispers back, pulling Jonah’s little body in close for a hug. Jonah makes a happy little sound and wraps his arms around Carlos’s neck. “We’ll bring him a blanket. How ‘bout an extra snuggly one?”

SEVEN SENTENCE SUNDAY

“I’m sorry that I don’t have more answers,” TK apologizes, voice barely above a whisper. Carlos looks up at him, brown meeting green, and vigorously shakes his head.

“No, don’t blame yourself. You did way more than anybody else would have.” TK smiles softly, finding the urge to kiss the man in front of him overwhelmingly strong.

But TK turns away before he acts on those thoughts.

WIP WEDNESDAY

i totally did not realize it was wednesday… something might be wrong with me i’m not sure lol

With one hand, he takes a picture to capture the moment. Jonah smiles for the camera, his hair untamed and messy, covering his right eye. “Can I show you something else I learned?”

“Sure,” TK smiles, letting the boy out of his arms. He grabs a piece of paper from their pile, beginning to draw something on the page. When he turns it around, it says his very own name.

“What? You know how to write your name? Jojo!” A round of applause is earned, and the five-year-old blushes happily as his brother celebrates his success. “How did you get so smart?”

Jonah shrugs, once again finding a comfortable spot in TK’s lap. TK subconsciously begins rocking him, combing gentle fingers through soft strands.

Playing around in the homesick hearts universe again bc why not?

Carlos finds him out front, back pressed against the stippled brick walls like the discomfort is welcoming. He has one arm wrapped around himself, hand rubbing up and down his bare arm even though the plaid shirt he wore on stage is tied around his waist. His other hand has a cigarette poised between two fingers just in front of his pink lips, tendrils of smoke curling around his fingers like the ghost of a someone trying to reach out and hold his hand in comfort.

Even though Carlos is still standing in the doorway, letting the warmth of the chatter and the dim lights out into the cool summer night, TK's black lined eyes are still pointed towards the light dappled sky, dim stars just a bit more visible than the vast emptiness Carlos has always known from back home in Austin.

Carlos closes the door tentatively, muting the light music and rhythmic chatter until all he can hear are the crickets that live in the gutters and the occasional engine of a car driving to places he will never know the way back to.

"Hey," Carlos murmurs, leaning against the wall an arms width away as he pulls a cigarette out of a pack from his pocket. The jacket he pulled on before following TK out the door protects him from the bite of the stone against his back, but just barely.

TK looks over to him, ice green eyes looking towards him yet far away. He raises his eyebrows as he takes another drag.

"You got a light?"

Happy Wednesday <3 Have a little chunk from the agent AU @welcometololaland and I are working on!

“So what?” Paul asks eventually. “Should we pencil you in plus one for the wedding now?”

TK’s eyes fly open and he fumbles with his water bottle before it hits the ground and bounces off it. “What? No! With my handler? Paul! No!”

“Sure man. Just askin’. Just like you were ‘just askin'’ if he was hot.”

TK shakes his head, free of the image of Carlos that grows sharp one day, blurry the next. Unlike his voice, that he can bring up to his brain in seconds and has all intonations down. He’s not interested in him in that way. 

He’s just lonely. And -- he’s fine. 

“Also,” TK says. “Paul, your wedding is in two months. You think the mission is gonna be done by then?”

Paul leans back on his hands. “I better wrap this up quicker than my predecessor.” He dodges TK’s shoulder for the dig. “Seems like you’ll have to make it to the wedding after all. Asha asked to have a dance with you and you don’t want to disappoint the bride, do you?”

He’s only met her a few times, surprised by how relatively many they wedged into their lifestyles, and he loves her dry humor, her bluntness, but most of all, how she makes Paul into a bumbling fool. 

“If this all wraps up soon, I can at least swing by for a dance, show you up,” TK says. “But only if you promise me not to sit me at the singles table.”

“Why? You lost your heart to Monarch after all?”

“No,” TK returns, falling back onto the bed, “because we have like five acquintances, all from the agency, and if my only prospect is Warren from HR, I’m throwing myself down the Niagara Falls.”
