You are good at something, stop lying to yourself. You’re good at breaking down comic book plots, cooking ramen perfectly, making your friends happy, knowing the time without looking at a clock, getting the perfect ending at RPG’s, or figuring out the twist ending to movies. Don’t let society tell you your talents are meaningless because they don’t serve an economical purpose. Your talents reflect your interests and passions, and what’s important to you is important.

^ This. adult speak time.. I know this is a age dysphoria blog but. I was born disabled. my condition doesn't get worse, or better. just stagnant. I've had to take on two roommates to be able to afford property taxes of my family home. would be more expensive to move. I make a little too much in benefits to be ineligible for certain aids, like food stamps, or some other aids, but I make too little to live on. If it's not about my income, it's about the type of benefit I get making me ineligible. I've been on SSDI since my birth, and at my birth i came disabled due to brain injury. Even though both are Social Security programs, I'm ineligible for low cost neuter for my youngest cat, or veterinary aid, or many aids, because i get SSDI, NOT SSI. My SSDI covers medicare, SSI covers Medicaid, and if I'm not on SSI/Medicaid, I can't get food stamps. I applied for SSI, I was told I make too much in SSDI to qualify. I asked them if they account for the chunk taken out for Medicare. They don't.. I get around $780 in SSDI after Medicare. $780. But according to them, I get $900 something, because they don't count my Medicare chunk. I was awarded a DIC benefit through the VA, giving me extra money on top of the SSDI, as a dependent child of my late father who was a 100% disabled Vietnam Vet (R.I.P Daddy). It helps a lot BUT He was property tax exempt because of this before he died. Evem though I was his dependent child, I have cerebral palsy from birth, autism, ptsd, I'm semi-verbal, cannot work full time, have low blood sugar disease, etc. In New Jersey...property tax exemption only passes to spouses, not dependent children. NJ property tax in my area is 5,000k+ a year. and I had to find a way to manage that. My mortgage is paid, which is wonderful, but I had to find a way to deal with this so I got two roommates, which with my issues is stressful, but it's what I have to do. with only 1780 a month to live on, I needed roommates anyway, but if I didn't have the taxes, I could've managed. No car, no mortgage, no income tax since I'm on benefits. I would've been fine. but laws are stupid. I budget for treats every 3-6 months.
disabled people deserve more than the bare minimum to live tbh. and i don't mean in the "oh we have extra costs that makes being disabled more expensive" - which is true, but i'm counting those in the budget to live. disabled people also deserve enough money to buy treats, nice clothes, fund their hobbies, take a trip away, and so on. being disabled shouldn't force you into a life of frugality and poverty
