James Lewis Carter Ford a.k.a T-Model Ford a.k.a. Taildragger took up the guitar when his fifth wife left him and gave him a guitar as a leaving present. Ford trained himself without being able to read music or guitar tabs. Unable to explain his technique, T-Model had simply worked out a way of playing that sounded like the guitarists he admired--Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf.

Blues great  Eddie Kirkland was still on the road playing the blues at 88 when he was killed in a car-bus crash on an early Sunday morning, February 27, 2011, in Florida.
Kirkland, who lived in Macon, Ga., played his final performance at the Dunedin Brewery in Dunedin, Fla.  According to patrons at the gig, Kirkland, despite his age, "played big, bold notes and sang with a lot of blues vigor."

If one person appreciates what I'm doing it's just as good as a million. A lot of places we've played, after I paid the band I didn't have a dime. But it was a good show. I was happy. That's it for me. It's my life.
