Reaching Cherryโs turf had been one thing. The Southsiders, contrary to popular belief, were actually capable of giving a shit and not decimating others or destroying public property. But with the kids from Cherry Proper now on their turf, his mind shot back to the Proper kid heโd had to talk down from pummeling a wisecracker (he never said Southsiders always made the best decisions). There wasnโt a doubt in his mind that, if something were to go awry, the local would be blamed. Fuck you, dad! Arms crossed, he continuedย โdoing the stare thing,โ despite the protests of Debra as she approached.ย โThese kids caused a scene at a funeral they had nothing to do with, Deb,โ he remarked, as if it were a brilliant explanation (however, it was yet another strike for the Proper).ย โVipers bite the heads of their mates and mothers off.โ Looking over his shoulder, he continued, โWhat do you believe happens when they are invited to play amongst mice?โ Sad, sad, sad โ that the Southsiders were looked upon as the vipers of their small town.ย
Humming, low and quiet, he considered the idea. โI used to be quite good, you know.โ
โ โพ โ
โIโm sure they had a reason,โ Debra wasnโt a Proper sympathizer by any means (she was), and what happened at the funeral was completely uncalled for but,ย โtheyโve gone through a lot too. I donโt know, donโt you think itโs time we stop judging people because they were born on a different side of town?โ A different side of town, in a different tax bracket, with nicer clothes and bigger homes. To her, there was bad all around Cherry. That much could be proven with the corrupt mayors and dead girls popping up all around Proper. The Southside at least had a cause. The Southside wasnโt the problem.ย
โEmir, what does that even mean?โ It took a lot in her not to just say that it wasnโt that deep, but she withheld herself. Emir spoke in riddles and she had come to learn that early on in their friendship! However, she wasnโt interested in decoding them.ย
I used to be quite good, you know.ย โYeah?โ Deb couldnโt help the grin that spread across her face, nodding.ย โWell, donโt make me drag you out there. That would just be embarrassing for you.โ

who: ozzy and open!ย what: blending in? where: the drive-in
There were certain places on the Southside Ozzy had sworn never to step foot in againโฆ and that was most places. He didnโt come to the Southside to have fun anymore, not that heโd ever had that much fun over here to begin with. No, his trips were reserved strictly for volunteer purposes, and the occasional sweep by his old haunts to make sure his ex was still alive check up on things. He probably could have skipped this whole thing, no one would have second guessed it, but he wasnโt about to let the integration of the Southside scare him away from attending town events. After all, he had as much of a right to be here as everyone else, right?ย
That doesnโt take away any of his nervous energy, and he peeks over his shoulder before turning back to the person across from him,ย โDo you think itโll be much longer before this thing ends?โย
โ โพ โ
Debra didnโt know if she had ever seen the Drive-In so full like tonight. It got busy at times, but Proper kids only showed up every now and again, and it was a miracle the Drive-In made money at times. Then again, what other entertainment would they have? Knife fights in alleyways could only hold attention for so long before even that boredom set in.ย โIโm sure no one would care if you dipped out,โ Deb shrugged, confused. She wasnโt expecting to see Ozzy in the Southside ever again, even with the whole fusing of both sides of town.ย โIโm surprised youโre even here. You sure itโs not like... unsafe of you to be here?โ She wasnโt going to say anything to anyone, but the Big Dogs could be unforgiving at times. Even if they were all supposed to be on their best behavior tonight.ย

๐๐๐๐:โโ welcome to my side of town, buddy!
๐๐๐๐๐: the bowling alley
The bowling alley, the drive in, the arcade, it was all like a second home to Debra. She could recall it being a home away from home whenever she was younger, far from her mom or dadโs house. Sometimes it was her nearest escape from the gang, sometimes it was just a place to hang out with friends. Debra noticed Noah walking inside, and didnโt know what was the right protocol. They were co-workers, but Debra knew that at the end of the day she was still a southsider. Being in Proper wasnโt some welcome invitation, it was a job and she just happened to know Noah. Still, wasnโt it just as rude to pretend like he didnโt exist? By the time Deb got out of her head, her strides had already taken her right in front of Noah.ย โHey, Noah!โ She said, almost too excitedly.ย โKinda funny to see you around here, huh? On my side of town and all?โ God, this was weird. It was weird, wasnโt it?ย โDonโt worry about paying. Consider it retribution for all the spilled drinks.โ

๐๐๐๐:โโ youโre not a southsider tonight, enjoy it!
๐๐๐๐๐: the drive in
It wasnโt often that Debra felt like she had an off night. Being a part of the Southside gang... it was a full time job. One that required a pager and knowing how to keep an eye out for anything suspicious. Tonight felt different. For once, Debbie felt like she could breathe. Maybe it was because tonight she didnโt have to hide, she could just do whatever she wanted. Perks of being in her natural element, or something along those lines. Spotting Rocky, Debra jogged over to her, waving! Were they friends? Coworkers? It didnโt matter to Deb. After all, Rocky was like royalty to her. She had lived in Proper at one point and even if she did end up in the Southside? It didnโt change that Debra loved stories about what it was like to live in Proper, what the schools were like, even if Rocky didnโt seem too thrilled about it.
โThis feels kinda crazy, right?โ Debra asked, a nervous laugh emitting from her lips as she looked behind her. All the cars piled in the drive in looked much nicer than what her dad drove. Something Debra never thought sheโd say.ย โNot having to keep an eye on everything?โ Maybe sheโd have to knock on wood, but she was taking this as an opportunity to have fun for one night.ย โDo you wanna like... steal some food and hang out?โย

๐๐๐๐:โโ come on you sad sap, letโs have some fun!
๐๐๐๐๐: bowling alley
The drive in, and the bowling alley at that, was one of the few places that Debra felt most comfortable. Maybe it was because her great-something way back when built it, but she could remember years of sitting on the counter of the food shack while her dad served customers because they were short staffed that day or how sheโd run around with her friends, making the bowling alley their own spot away from their parents or the Southside gang. It was one of the busiest places in the Southside, but with Proper kids flooding in, their cardigans resting on the chairs or their cherry sodas spilling on the floor, the place was bumping more than usual. Debra didnโt even roll her eyes when someone started playing Day-O on the jukebox. It felt like maybe, just maybe, the Proper and Southside were finally coming together.
Sipping on her straw full of soda, she rested against the counter of the food shack, glancing over at Emir.ย โYouโre doing the stare thing, knock it off,โ she chided, knocking Emirโs shoulder with her own.ย โWeโre fine,โ there was nothing to worry about in Debraโs eyes. People were having fun, there were no fights, and everyone seemed to be on their best behavior.ย โWe should bowl,โ then she gave him a smile, ready to tease him.ย โYou do know how to bowl, right?โย

๐๐๐๐:โโ debraโs spill the beans era!
๐๐๐๐๐: near the pit booth
Debra had spent most of the day bouncing between her job at the Pit, handing out various cocktails or sodas, and trying to rally people for the Southsideโs cause. It had left her with almost no time to actually enjoy the Block Party until she was officially clocked out for the day. She knew she would get called over to Emirโs booth in a matter of minutes, but she was going to enjoy the little bit of freedom she had until then. At least she was, until she spotted Harvey Hargrove a mere few meters away from her. She had rarely spoken to him, only once at a party. In fact, she had never really spoken to most of the illustrious gang before. They seemed like Cherry royalty in some aspects. Names she would always know because of their life being turned upside down.ย
Harvey was a different case. The golden boy. The star athlete. Harvard Hargroveโs son. Snatching two lemonades from The Pit booth, she approached Harvey cautiously, her shoulders slumped. What was she doing? It was like her brain was moving quicker than her body, telling her that this would probably be the only time she could get him alone and pick his brain. For information.ย โHarvey, right?โ She asked, holding out one of the cups of lemonade. A peace offering.ย โItโs really cool that your dad is letting us slum it up here with you Cherriots. You know, considering I feel like weโre all supposed to be his dirty little secret,โ a smile on her face, she was only joking, but she had also assumed that Harvey was aware of his dadโs dealings. Him being the future heir and all.

Now, here was a face that he didnโt immediately recognize - a presence in Cherry Township that he couldnโt immediately place - but he supposed that nobody in Cherry was that far off when you got to the, like,ย โSeven Degrees of Kevin Baconโ of it all. Someone always knew someone, who knew someone elseโฆ Still. It was nice to be able to swipe a grin across his face, and mean it - someone who might not have some predisposed opinion of him? Wow.ย
โI actually registered to vote the day I turned 18? My Nan basically escorted my ass down to the courthouseโฆ Shoved all the forms in my hands, and said that โItโs my duty as a Cromwell to try and keep the rich assholes who live around here from running things for the rest of us.โโ Jamieโs smile went a little sideways - bad way to introduce himself? Maybe.ย โGuess she saw this whole thing coming at some point.โย
โAnyway, uh - you can give me the whole spiel if you want, but Iโve already heard it from a couple of your friends. I respect the move into our side of town, justโฆ canโt imagine why you would want to deal with all ofย โem, you know? Donโt really see the Proper welcoming anyone with open arms anytime soon. Dividing lines around here run deep: you can trust me on that one.โย
โ โพ โ
Debra couldnโt quite gauge the guy in front of her. Everything about him screamed not-from-Proper yet... here they both were in the smack dab middle of it all.ย โDoes that mean I can count on Nan to vote too?โ She joked, her lips quirking up into a smile. She didnโt really care how many people voted for Hasim, it was all the same. Vote one bad guy out for another one. The only difference was that Debra was only loyal to one, and at least that one could help her out.ย
She knew that Proper didnโt want her here. There was a caste system to it all. Keep the bad ones out which was really just code for we can tell you shop secondhand. It was a dog eat dog world in Cherry and yet, she wanted nothing more than to be in Proper. Wanting to get milkshakes with friends instead of planning the latest take down in the warehouse. It felt nice that this guy hadnโt turned her away. Maybe like, she stood a chance. Even if it was undeniably clear that he wasnโt in the upper crust of Cherry Township.
โLet me guess,โ she nodded her head, tucking her clipboard underneath her ribs.ย โYou grew up in a trailer park, probably told your entire life that there was nothing else for you, because,โ she turned on her heel, now standing right next to him, her eyes looming over Harvard Hargroveโs The Whateverโs booth, with his picture perfect family. Something she would never have. Something that this long haired guy next to her would never have. โTheyโve had it all. They werenโt practically born in a ditch and told to fend for themselves and they never will. Heโs letting us in here today but tomorrow? C.P.D. will probably be sitting at the border and Iโll have to fight them just to get to work.โ
This wasnโt her usual spiel she gave, not to the ones who obviously had money to spend or the ones who would vote for Hargrove no matter what she said.ย โBasically, we shouldnโt just hang tight and let the Hargroveโs of the world do whatever the hell they want and Iโm not saying Hasim will be any better,โ her voice dropped lower just in case any of the Big Dogs were listening.ย โBut it has to start somewhere. Who cares if Proper hates us as long as thereโs still someone on our side?โ

๐๐๐๐:โโ lil debs doing her dirty work 4 the day
๐๐๐๐๐: the block party, obvi!
The lines between Proper and the Southside had slowly began to fade. Well, if they could all coexist at a block party, maybe it would be! It also gave Debra the perfect front to actually be at the block party. Had she shown up of her own volition with no Southsiders in sight... she would have had a bit of explaining to do. Luckily, she had been tasked to mingling on the Proper side. There werenโt many girls in the Southside gang, and not many that could throw on innocence like Debra. Thus, she was given a dress code by Hasim, to wear something unsuspecting as if to say hey, Southsiders can look nice too! She tugged at the sun dress she was in, clipboard in hand, as she hunted down voters. She had been bouncing between her job at The Pit and the Southside Gang all day long and just needed a break. Was this what it would be like when she was inevitably split between both worlds? Maybe!
She wanted to sit down, maybe have a lemonade, but Debra had been given a goal. Get younginโs to either register to vote or convince voters that Hasim was in the best interest of Cherry Township. It was a task that Debra wasnโt surprised fell on her. How could you say no to a face like hers?ย โHi, sorry to be a bother,โ she smiled softly, tapping the next person she saw on the shoulder. If she could secure them, maybe sheโd be allowed a break.ย โIโm with Hasim Erdoganโs campaign. I was wondering if there was any way I could convince,โ or bribe, โyou into registering to vote? Or at least hearing about our plans for Cherry? It would only take two minutes, tops!โ

๐๐๐๐:โโ debra is the worst bartender imaginable <333
๐๐๐๐๐: the pit!
Working at The Pit had its... challenges. It didnโt pay great and frankly, Debra wasnโt into her coworkers. Namely, Casey Russell. There was nothing that really irked her about him, but it was clear that people in Proper didnโt take kindly to Southsiders. Even ones like Debra who posed relatively no threat at the moment. It sucked, but she just kind of stayed away from the Russellโs when she was on the clock. She was here to get the hell out of the Southside, not make friendship bracelets with people who didnโt take to her to begin with. She was proud of where she came from, even if she wanted to leave it. It was the only life she ever knew. Debra just wanted more from life. Sue her!
Debra wasnโt much of a little bartender. Luckily, mostly everyone who came through those doors just wanted a beer. There was the occasional Old Fashioned or Vodka Soda, which were easy enough to grasp onto, but when someone requested a Mojito, she was absolutely dumbfounded. She had no choice, but to hunt down Casey down the bar.ย โCasey!โ She hissed, in a whisper.ย โWhat the fuck is a Mojito and why would someone order that?โ

๐๐๐๐:โโ *gasp* ozzy?!?!
๐๐๐๐๐: probably like the edge of cherry township thatโs currently burnt to a crisp <333
Debra had been making herself cozy in Cherry Proper for the last week or so. Her new job at The Pit required her to be around town more and more. After all, if she didnโt get to know the place sooner or later how was she to ever survive her first year at C.C.U? Whenever that would be. She had gone to the beach, even made herself familiar with the coveted boardwalk, but she wanted to know the ins and outs. Where did people live? Where did they shop? She probably looked more like a tourist than a curious wanderer as she went down the strip that held all of the burned businesses lost in the fire. She had heard something about a coffee place, but turns out it had been eaten by the flames.
That royally sucked. With a sigh, she turned on her heel, not expecting to see Ozzy fucking Okala in front of her. He was the kind of person Debra wished she was. He cut everyone off in an instant, went to school, and never looked back. It was her dream. A dream she was too scared to commit to.ย โOzzy?โ She asked, daring to step closer to him. When he left, all loyalty went out the window. Southsiders didnโt take kindly to people who preferred Proper. It was like a sin and Debra had happily complied when it happened. Always the follower, never the leader. Itโs how she survived. "How... Howโs Proper been?โ What do you say to the person you turned a cold shoulder to?ย

Cam wasnโt sure how it happened. Heโd spent all day at the Archerโs event and not once. Not a single time had he heard anything about an after party. Not a whisper. Not a hint. Nothing. So heโd have been lying if he said he wasnโt at least a little bummed when his family got the order. The order that had him standing at the edge of the beach, pizza in hand, and no clue who it was supposed to go to. He tried to get a feel for whoโs party it was, but the longer he stood there the more he came to realize that it really did seem like a free for all. From the smoke pit, to the music, to the sโmores, it seemed like it was anyoneโs ball game as long as he got the one thing he needed to get done completed.ย
โHey!โ He shouted to the first person who came into view.ย โAny chance youโre the one who ordered a pie?โ He asked eagerly, hoping that this wasnโt going to take too long.ย โI didnโt get a name for the order, I was just told to come drop it off by the beach. Not super helpful instructions and not looking good for my tip.โ He added as he patted the lid to the box.ย

Debra realized almost immediately that when she arrived to the Orchard Shore Beach, she was out of her element. There werenโt very many people she knew there and the ones she did know seemed to be with other people. She had mostly tried to keep to the shadows, drinking her beer, and judging what song was playing over the stereo. She had decided that maybe her time was nearing close to the end. She could try and talk to someone, maybe snag a sโmore or two, but she still felt so nervous being on the proper side and not wreaking havoc.
โMe? No,โ she shook her head, glad to see a familiar face even if it was in the presence of him delivering a pizza. The Pizza Palace had long become a staple to Debraโs heart. Neither her or her dad could cook for shit, so she had spent many nights grabbing a pie after getting off of work at The Pit.ย โBut tell you what. Iโll give you..โ she reached into her back pocket, pulling out the little bit of money she had.ย โA ten and we could split the thing? Maybe it wasnโt, like, the best idea to get high off of his ass only days out of waking up from a Phantom induced coma? But Harvey couldnโt help himself after the night he had had. The fight with Zev was still ringing in his ears, and so was his conversation with Caseyโฆ With Kitty, and with Rory, and with everyone else who had asked him how he was, or given him some look from across the room. Heโd hoped the weed would help him forget but with a groan -ย
โWhoa - come on!โ Harvey jumped - flinched is more like it, even if he wouldnโt have called it that - as someone poked their head into his sanctuary. He wouldnโt have been so startled if his skin wasnโt buzzing so loud, but he knew if he focused too hard on it, it might make his head spin faster than he knew what to do with.ย โYou know, you could knock next time? Itโs the -โ Well, maybe that was only houses. And rooms. Whatever.ย
โItโs the polite thing to do when entering new spacesโฆ or something.โ

Debra had no reason to show up when she heard of a little beach party, but she was... intrigued. Partying on the beach? What a concept! The only parties she had gone to were in abandoned buildings in the Southside. Her curiosity got to the better of her as she went to beach, by herself, just to see how the Cherry Proper kids got up to it. It was refined, more than she could imagine. Beer pong, volleyball... sโmores? This seemed more than just drinking and hitting the shit.ย
She had been at the beach for about thirty minutes before she decided to toddle off to the lifeguard tower for refuge. It didnโt take her long to realize she didnโt really know anybody and she didnโt want to answer any questions about where she came from. Getting a target on her back immediately at a party didnโt sound like a wild night. Peeking her head inside, she was met with someone else in the tower.ย โShit, sorry!โ She apologized.ย โI didnโt think anyone else would be in here,โ Debra admitted, ready to dart back outside and run back home from embarrassment until she looked down and saw that this guy did not look well.
โAre you okay? You look a little... out of it.โ

BIOGRAPHY
CHILDHOOD:
Debra Lynn Foster was born to LaDonna Berry and Mike Foster on March 3rd, 1979. The pair never married. In fact, they were barely dating when Debra was born. LaDonna and Mike had a tumultuous relationship, spanning from high school up until their daughter was born. Growing up, Debra was shifted between house to house, weekend to weekend, with each parent. She was lucky her mom lived near the outskirts of Cherry Proper and little Debbie dreamed of being able to maybe go to the beaches there or hanging out with the kids that lived in Cherry, but she was always ripped back down to reality when sheโd go to her dadโs house.
Mike was a part of the Southside Gang since he was a teenager. It seemed like a right of passage for anyone who was raised in the southside of Cherry and while Mike had hoped heโd have a son to pass the torch to when the time came, he only had Debra. Since she was a child, Mike had molded Debra to be the perfect gang member. Most kids got to go to the arcade on weekends while Debra went to the shooting range. She never enjoyed it, but she never complained. Not when she wanted to make her dad and friends proud. Besides, it wasnโt like anyone ever made it out of the southside.
TEENAGEHOOD:
By the time Debra was sixteen, she had fully cemented herself as a member of the Southside Gang. She had her best friend, The Right Hand, who seemed keen on being a part of the gang for as long as they could. The older the got, the more Debra realized that a life of crime wasnโt for her. She loved the gang, they were her family, but she wanted so much more in her life. She wanted to run down the beach, laughing with her friends. Not planning out robberies and murders.ย
ADULTHOOD:
Debra has spent the last few years skating by, doing petty crimes, and whateverโs asked of her from the gang. Sheโs not exactly a meek figure around the gang. In fact, itโs quite the opposite. Despite her own feelings of wanting to leave and desire for something outside of the Southside gang, sheโs a loyal member to their cause. Itโs all sheโs ever known. Now that summer has hit and parts of Cherry Proper have burned to a crisp, Debraโs gotten a job. It was suggested to her by her dad and other members of the gang who said it would be unsuspecting of her and would allow her to keep an eye on those in Cherry Proper. Unfortunately, he doesnโt know that sheโs looking for her job as her way out of the Southside.
