perfect veins
i’m in love with someone
who is more in love
with my sadness than with me
carrying the ocean within my lungs,
drowning in my own body
i’ll paint the sky
with the colours of your eyes
i’ll paint the flowers
in the rose of your cheeks
press your lips to mine
and exhale your wishes into me
your half smile
reminds me of the crescent moon
i would watch on the lonely nights
of missing you
it’s that sinking feeling of being alone
and it’s the way it makes you scream and pulls the skin off your bones
i’ll paint the sky
with the colours of your eyes
i’ll paint the flowers
in the rose of your cheeks
press your lips to mine
and exhale your wishes into me
i am the nightmare that you dream when you’re in the deepest sleep
i am the fairy tale that you read
but don’t believe
please stop loving me
when i want to begin
to fade away completely
and dissolve into nothing
press your lips to mine
and exhale your wishes into me
press your lips to mine
and exhale your wishes into me

Moths
They say without a pulse you are dead—
with no heartbeat, when your body is pale and cold.
Though most have not put their head upon my chest
or pressed their fingers against my wrist.
“I can't find your heart,” he whispered to me,
his breath licking my neck.
I told him, “it does not exist my love.”
“What do you mean little girl?” His eyes,
a mix between confusion and fear,
and I pulled him back to me, back against my chest
“come close,”
hesitation,
then I felt his head and his hair
“What do you hear?”
“A sort of hum and a slight whir—a buzz”
“I am not hollow—those are moths, my love.”

we moved on
curiosity abiding
we flew from forest to forest
pretending to remember
but prepared for nothing
hello, old neighbor
remember when our fingers
wrapped around the branches
and we felt the sky breathe?

There's a kind of tender aching
Burrowed deep inside my breast
And I'm having trouble breathing
And my heart's not in my chest
And my words all run together
So I think it's for the best
If you kissed me soft and swift, dear
So that I forget the rest

Insufficient Fun
Miss Allocation, aching for more,
Face pressed against the glass ceiling
Waiting for the drop-dead,
Dropping death down amongst the few living left
Braking for more
Stamping her foot down to stop
But nothing even slows
Nothing ever grows in this damn garden
You've salted this earth
With my vinegar tears
And peppered it with your sharp words
Does it taste good to you yet?
Taking more
And more
And more
Breaking for more
My heart is breaking and i can't give anymore

Once Upon A Time
once upon a time,
I didn't think of it as being
locked in a tower
fast asleep
never let down your hair
and once upon a time,
I didn't believe in
fire-breathing dragons
or wicked stepsisters
or curses on entire families
but once upon a time,
my hair wasn't quite so long
this tower seemed a whole lot shorter, then
once upon a time,
I didn't need to leave
glass calling cards left "just so"
on his front steps
once upon a time,
"true love's first kiss" was a joke
and you told me to just kiss
every frog in the land
and maybe I'd find Prince Good Enough
but once upon a time,
a long time ago,
you tried to tell them you were more
than just a silly frog
in knight's armor
so maybe this time,
I'll let down my hair

little dust particle
little dust particle
that's me
me too (only visible in bright light)
blow me away and i'll land on your blinds forever
i am everywhere around you even though you can't see me
it's only a matter of time before you breathe me in
and only a matter of time before i make you sneeze
and with that sneeze i leave you, to drift in the air again, maybe forever
while you sleep i will watch tiny little dust particles visit you in your dreams
until i disappear in the silent sky of blue
and i will hope that as they drift off, they will visit you, too
because from dust we came and to dust we shall return
and when we return to dust, we can finally drift together forever
no pacific wind or gloomy breeze strong enough to stop us from reaching the atmosphere
and maybe we'll even get a taste of outer space, if we're lucky
we are infinite amounts of cosmic dust
be insignificant forever with me
so translucent and fragile you will always be
drifting on moonlight, floating on exhalations
