I bought these lights WELL over a year ago…

I manage my adhd with notebooks and lists. I often can’t remember why I walked into a room, but I can tell you which notebook contains a specific to-do list from 7 years ago.

And over a year ago, I bought these lights and added “hang lights” to my to-do list.

When I don’t get something done, it gets forwarded to the next day’s list. This task has been chasing me.

And sometimes, it’s something non-urgent like this that becomes a constant reminder that you aren’t doing okay. That you aren’t doing anything but the absolute minimum. That you’re simply surviving.

Cleaning the junk drawer isn’t urgent. Sorting out your storage unit isn’t pressing. When you’re barely getting up and going to work; when you’re painting on a smile to show up for your loved ones, hanging twinkle lights isn’t a priority.

But when at her best, a task like this would absolutely delight Elektra.

I haven’t been anywhere near my best. For too long.

I keep thinking my divorce was just yesterday, when in reality, it was finalized in January. Everything, for months before, and after, are a complete blur.

But a short time ago, I had enough. This week, I cleaned the junk drawer. Yesterday and today, I cleaned out the storage unit.

Tonight, I hung the fucking twinkle lights.

I fully expect Kitty to chew through them by tomorrow. But for tonight, and tomorrow, and every new part of my life that waits for me,

We twinkle. Lights or no lights.

Never been so happy to cross a task off of my list ☑️
