Hmm, a sensitive subject. Even Takeru could tell that Katsumi wasn’t a fan about where their conversation was going, so he’d drop anymore questions about what kind of duelist she was inside Link VRAINS.

Not that something like that was really important anyway.

“Not really. Most of the time, I’m just there with a friend of mine, but I know SOL Tech holds events inside Link VRAINS sometimes, don’t they? They give away prizes for winning special duels…or did they just sponsor the celebrity meet and greets instead?” 

“Yeah, they do both! I’ve actually been to some of the meet and greets.” Not as Rosemary though. “Whenever there’s one with Blue Angel I have to go. Not only is she super cute but she’s also an amazing duelist!”

Saying Katsumi was a fan of the Charisma Duelist was an understatement. Her room was filled with all sorts of Blue Angel merchandise. She could go on and on about her love of the idol but decided it was best to spare Takeru the rambling. “I feel like technology keeps getting more impressive. SOL Tech has opened up so many new possibilities.” She laughed a bit. “Who knows when we’ll have computers in our brains.”

Great, they were back to this topic again. 

As much as Takeru wanted to say ‘yes’, could he even risk exposing himself like that? His Link VRAINS account was something he was trying to keep as lowkey as possible, but it wasn’t like he could actually duel Katsumi offline either. Flame had told him it’d be best to keep his Salamangreats hidden in the real world, too.

“I don’t really duel that often though. Actually, I guess it’s more like I only really duel when I have to. So, uh…” Was that enough to convince Katsumi he wasn’t really the best person to challenge? Probably not.

Katsumi pouted a little; she wasn't actually that upset, just trying to continue the cute act. Though, she wondered what he meant by only dueling when he had to... it wasn't some kind of underground dueling thing, right? She couldn't really see Takeru getting into something messy like that, he seemed too gentle. Putting that thought aside, Katsumi thought that maybe she needed to offer something return. Like, maybe the promise of free food? "Pleeeease, Homura-kun!" She clasped her hands in front of her and added some puppy dog eyes to her pout. "I'll buy you lunch if you do. Anywhere you want!"

“I… See.”

Most people would respond like that. Though, the reasoning behind the love for dueling this time was… Honestly admirable. If Tsuki could overcome his trauma, maybe he could think that way too.

…Ha, what wishful thinking.

Finger hovering over the price tags of two certain branded food, Tsuki would hum to himself.

“Um… I-I’m a boring person, so I don’t really have anything else. A-All I do is sleep all day so I guess my hobby would be sleeping?”

Katsumi was starting to understand little by little what kind of person Tsuki was. He wasn’t just shy; he was dealing with some other heavy emotions.

“I think sleeping is more of a necissity rather than a hobby.” He probably shouldn’t be sleeping that much either, but she’d leave that out. “Maybe you can add cooking to your hobby list. Earlier it sounded like you really enjoy it!” Despite Tsuki calling himself boring, she was still enjoying the small conversation they were having. Katsumi tried to socialize any chance she got. Honestly, if she had it her way she’d have someone around every waking hour of the day. Being alone was something that she tried to avoid.

Whew, okay; so maybe his being vague had actually worked for once! Katsumi didn’t seem like she was pressuring him any more for info on his Link VRAINS account!

Maybe if he could just keep up the small talk on his deck and not give out too many details, he’d be okay. Besides, there was a small part of Takeru that was actually interested in Katsumi’s own deck, too. She obviously knew Link VRAINS pretty well.

“Yeah, I’ve had some good luck using it! But I hear that plant decks can be pretty powerful when they’re built right, too.” Not that Takeru would really know. He’d only ever seen one in actual play!

“So, do your Plant types have an archetype you like the best in them? Or did you just pick the best Plant cards instead?”

“It’s mostly just the best Plant cards.” She should try not to reveal too much about her deck. “The company made the deck for me. I ended up really liking though!” Katsumi spent a lot of time dueling her manager in order to ‘perfect’ her skills. She knew there was definitely some room to grow though. And in order to get that growth, it was better to duel someone she’d never had before.

“Homura-kun, can we duel sometime?” She tried playing the cutesy card in hopes it would get him to say yes.

“Yeah,” An awkward chuckle. “I-I’m fine with that.”

But was he? Tsuki didn’t know. Maybe he was just saying that because it was easy. 

Lotus. He wasn’t really sure if he had heard of such a place, but he’d make a mental note anyways just in case. He really doubted he’d really move on from his semi-shut-in life any time soon to visit though.

“Umm, sure.” 

Tsuki didn’t like dueling. It was still traumatizing for him. Tsuki preferred talking to duel spirits more than anything. But why mention that when people these days didn’t even know his non-human friends existed? 

“Do you like dueling, Suzuki-San…?”

“I love it! When I duel it feels like my heart is getting closer to my opponents.” For her, there was a bit of intimacy in dueling. It felt like she could learn what kind of person someone was just by the way they dueled. And it was fun! Even if she lost, the experience was enjoyable. After taking a moment to blissfully think of her hobby, she remembered that they were in the middle of grocery shopping. Since she decided on making a simple salad there probably wasn’t much for her to get but she wasn’t quite ready to leave Tsuki yet. “Do you have any other hobbies, Amagawa-kun?”

Takeru should’ve known better than to keep going with the topic of Link VRAINS! As much as he would’ve liked Katsumi to help, wasn’t revealing who he was inside the VR world a little risky? Even if it was just for help with his D-Board, Yusaku probably would’ve had his head, so-

“It’s an all Fire attribute deck built by a friend of mine.”

A vague answer, but at least he wasn’t lying!

“I don’t think it needs anyone to really look at it though. It just needs a reset. You can do that with D-Boards in the network, can’t you?”

“I think so! It never hurts to try turning something off and on again.” That’s what she tried if something wasn’t working properly, anyway. And usually, that worked for her. Katsumi probably knew just enough about technology to be able to fix a basic problem. Takeru’s vague answer didn’t rouse and suspicion in Katsumi. It made sense to not fully reveal your deck if you were a duelist. She was curious about his dueling skill though. Maybe she could talk him into having a casual duel with her sometime?

“Fire attribute decks are pretty cool! I bet it’s strong too.” There’s no possible way she knew, she was just trying to butter him up a little. “I use a plant type deck.
