its extremely important to read widely and deeply in a variety of genres. read obscure self published shit that only 4 people have read. read culturally relevant works of literature that have helped shape the canon. read horror. read women's lit. read historical fiction and comedies and nonfiction and hentai and poetry and science fiction and fantasy and mysteries and romance and good things and bad things and things u hate and things you love and things you COULD like if only the author changed x y and z and things which are beautiful but not meant for you.
doing all of this reading will lay a groundwork of rich complexity in your heart. so that you can write really good porn

I'm having the weirdest mental conversation with myself over Uma Musume in the concept of body acceptance and how characters should be a range of shapes and sizes.
On the one hand, yes. Very much. Every Body is a Swimsuit Body, a healthy body is a beautiful body and healthy bodies come in every shape and size, I've seen the variety of shapes and sizes athletes come in, and seeing all this slowly trickle into mainstream media is really cool!
On the other hand, my mom is a Horse Girl who grew into a Horse Woman, meaning, regardless of my own interest levels, I was Destined to grow up Knowing About Horses through sheer osmosis. Which is why part of my brain is screaming at me that horses can literally fall ill and die from eating too much rich food at once, they're designed to cover large distances on sometimes extremely scarce forage, they don't have an 'I'm full, I should stop eating' switch in their head so they need careful dietary regulation in domestication, the fear of foundering (which is caused by overeating and can lame the horse while also putting the horse in great pain) is so very real and alive in horse folk circles. All of which has me going, "This is literally the only situation where I'd be willing to accept, 'but they're really horses!' as an explanation for why they have to maintain a certain weight and diet regime, because that actually leans into the racehorse aspect of them."
Notes from the mental peanut gallery, "By this logic, all bunny girls should be on the chubby side, because a nice layer of chub in a wild bunny is proof that they're super good at being a bunny, and the same goes for selkies."
The mental peanut gallery is right, btw. The 'horse realism' aspect can be countered with the fact that foundering is caused in part because horse legs are very thin and can only support so much excess weight 24/7, where as horse girls have human legs, which can handle a much broader spectrum of weight, and also the horse girls are girls as well as horses, so there's no definite reason for them to have to worry about the overeating thing either. Also, while the game and show focus on racers, there are all types of horses in reality, so why not have all types of horse girls as well?
Like, race horses are 'hot bloods', they're light, lively, fast, lean. These are your thoroughbreds and arabians. But there are also 'cold bloods,' which are your draft horses - Clydesdales, Percherons, and the like - who are slow, calm, large, and powerful. They've got feathers (the fluffy fur around the ankles), and big soft noses, and the temperament to be left alone with young children. And, of course, there are 'warm bloods,' which are, again of course, a cross between hot bloods and cold bloods. They're quick like hot bloods, but calmer, like cold bloods, used for just about whatever you like these days (though, originally, they were bred as war horses), and pedigree is less of an interest when it comes to them.
Meaning, if you wanted to stick with the 'real world' horse aspects of horse girls, then all that's really needed is to say that the Uma Musume girls are hot bloods, but warm blood and cold blood horse girls also exist. Tall, powerful cold blood horse girls who specialize in farm work and used to help with transport vehicles before motors were invented, and who produce weight lifters and pulling champions, and who have the lung capacity and power of opera singers! Warm blood horse girls in all shapes and sizes and compete in dressage and high jumps, and who take ballroom dancing to the next level! That would be so cool, and add an awesome layer to an already extremely detailed, care-filled world!
Like, yeah, if you want to design an endomorph horse girl who's a race horse, yeah, there's literally nothing stopping you, this is a made-up world with made-up rules. But also now I kinda want some spin-off games focusing on those other horse sports that I mentioned involving other blood types of horse girl that get to highlight them in a variety of sports.
Also a farming/cooking game where your character is trying to grow and prepare different varieties of carrot for the horse girl equivalent of a delicacy/sweets shop. That would be adorable.
...
...I started this post with only the first three paragraphs in mind, mostly to complain about how being raised by a Horse Woman means I have the mental knee-jerk of, "No, don't do that, they'll founder and it'll be bad" when I hear about a chubby race horse girl, but I seem to not only have got that bit of my brain to chill out, I have discovered a whole slew of things I'd love to see expanded upon, including cold blood horses being represented by large, beautiful woman who could and would tow a car if necessary and whom excel in careers involving small children.

battletech poast
Battletech is interesting to me when juxtaposed against something like WH40K in that the "outsider, invader" factions are not meaningfully worse or necessarily better than the established powers, they're just really fucking annoying.
Okay you're a perfect clone warrior race that gets violently angry at people using contractions and says "aff" and "neg" instead of yes and no. You lost a fight to the phone company because they abused your system of battle contracts. Bro you are not serious, go home.
