can you do a gerard imagine/short fic (idk if those count as the same thing 🤔) like based around the song 'compass' by the neighborhood? Whenever I listen to that song I always think of Gerard 😸
could you tell me where to go?
pairing - gerard way x gn!reader
summary - gerard was no stranger to missing you while on tour, but some days just happened to hit harder than most.
word count - 665
warnings - no use of y/n, established relationship, hesitant!gerard era, light angst, pet names, comfort (in a way?)
a/n - thank you for the request! I wasn’t familiar with the song before this but thought it was very sweet. also as far as I know an imagine is -at most- one paragraph giving just a brief scenario??
San Francisco’s autumn breeze felt like cool water over his face. Above the looming city was a vacant sky that reminded him of an ocean’s dark surface, vast and blank. Even out here, Gerard could still feel the infectious buzz of the gathering crowd inside the venue. It felt like a hand pressing against his back, a subtle reminder that they were expecting him.
Gerard squinted up at the sky, as the phone rang in his ear – the sound cutting through the overlap of thoughts.
“Hello?” your voice came through, sounding weary.
“Hey baby,” he cooed, “I didn’t wake you up, did I?”
“No, I was just getting ready for bed,” you answered.
Gerard hummed as he pressed the phone against his cheek, as if the action could bring him closer to you. He closed his eyes as he intently listened to the faint sounds of you shuffling around the room, and imagined the familiar sight of your drowsy eyes and lazy smile that usually graced him before bed. If he held onto the memory long enough perhaps it would follow him to his hotel room and allow him to sleep tonight.
“Don’t you have a show tonight?” you asked.
He nodded, as if you could see him. “Yeah, in about fifteen minutes.”
“Then shouldn’t you be off getting ready, mister?”
“Yeah, I just...” He sighed, his grip tightening around the phone. “I just wanted to say goodnight; in case you fell asleep before the show ended.”
“As long as I’m not holding you up-
“You’re not,” he assured. “I promise.”
The sound of your soft laughter came through the receiver, causing his heart to clench. Gerard sighed, and tilted his head forward, greedily lapping up the sound. It was almost enough to drown out the chanting of the venue, as his name fell from the fan’s tongues like a mantra.
“Fuck, I miss you,” he quietly admitted, feeling his stomach coil as his voice wavered. He swallowed, trying to push down whatever other confession might be trying to claw its way up his throat.
You drew in shaky breath. “I miss you too, honey. We’ll see each other soon.”
“I know, I know,” he said, as if the thought didn’t constantly parade around his mind. Touring always felt like he was counting down to something. Whether that was to a break, to the next show, to the last show, to you. Half the time he wondered if he should just stick a giant fucking calendar to his chest and tick off the days one by one.
“I’ll be thinking about you until then,” you said, your voice dipping in his ear. Then, the sharp sound of the band of your underwear snapping against your hip broke through. Gerard exhaled, pinching at the bridge of his nose as you playfully giggled into the phone.
“I think you might be the death of me,” he jested, smiling to himself.
You hummed, a smile tugging on your lips. “Well try to make it back to me first before you do.”
“Trust me, I will.”
“I’m going to let you go, and finish getting ready” you said, sighing. “Have fun on stage tonight, okay?”
Gerard’s heart sank, as your goodbye echoed in his ear. He hissed through his teeth, wanting nothing more than to stay on the line with you until dawn broke over the city’s edge. As the noise inside the venue continued to swell, he knew that wasn’t possible.
“Alright,” he said, caving in. “Get some sleep, I love you.”
“I love you too. Goodnight, love.”
“Goodnight, baby,” he murmured, before hanging up.
Gerard reluctantly stuffed his phone back in his pocket and glanced up at the sky as its grandness pressed down on him. With a deep breath he turned and headed back inside the venue, already beginning to feel the heat of the lights on his face.
I think I need you with me for all-time When I need new direction for my mind

pairing - illi x fem!reader
summary - it’s supposed to be a simple movie date, but illi just can’t seem to keep her hands off of you.
word count - 1.7k
warnings - no use of y/n, fluff, established relationship, fem pronouns used for illi, heavy making out, groping, pet names, whiny and pathetic illi
a/n - thank you for all the love on my previous illi fics! I’m currently working on a request for gerard so I hope to have that finished sometime soon. also there will be a gn!reader in the next illi fic, I promise!
The Video Vault was lively, as kids dragged their parents through the aisles by the cuff of their sleeves. Music played from a muffled speaker somewhere, the crooning of some 80’s glam singer barely rising over the senseless chatter of customers. Illi silently watched as a giddy group of teenagers eyed a copy of Jeepers Creepers, before casually walking past it. One of them glanced over at her for a brief second, before hastily looking away.
“If you’re just going to stand there, at least fix the keychain display.” “My shift ended 10 minutes ago,” Illi said, lazily leaning against the counter. Her eyes drifted away from the suspicious teenagers and over to Howard, who stood by the cash register. His mud brown hair was clipped back today, the tangled locks resembling a bird’s nest. A pair of thick framed glasses sat perched on the edge of his nose, as he peered down at a clipboard.
“Then why are you still here?” he asked, sounding incredibly disinterested.
Illi deeply sighed, her patience already dangling by a thread. “I’m waiting for someone,” she explained, hoping to leave it at that.
Howard scratched at the patches of his beard – if you could call it that – snorting as if she had told some joke.
“Did your little girlfriend stand you up, or something?” A sly smile grew on his lips, as he looked over at her in amusement. The sight was enough to cause Illi to grind down on her teeth, as she quickly glanced away.
She trained her gaze onto the garish looking carpet, counting its orange threads in hopes of slowing her thoughts. Sometimes Illi wasn’t sure why she stuck around the video store. The pay was crap, and her co-worker Howard had the IQ of a fucking slug. Then she thought back to the time Mikey and her did lawn work one summer, to try and afford tickets to Iron Maiden’s Brave New World Tour.
That night was still the highlight of her fucking life.
Suddenly, The Vide Vault didn’t feel so bad, compared to mowing someone’s front lawn beneath a blistering sun.
“We have plans,” she mumbled. Howard opened his mouth to reply, when a giddy-looking family approached the counter, clutching onto a VHS of Casper, momentarily distracting him.
Illi reached over to fiddle with the keychain display, nervously glancing at the clock. Where the hell were you?
Through the front store windows, she could just make out your approaching figure as you jogged through the parking lot. A heavy looking plastic bag bumped against your thigh, as you hopped up onto the sidewalk. Illi fought against the grin working to overtake her face, as she rushed over to open the door for you.
“Hey,” she breathed out, as you stepped inside. You shyly smiled at her, your eyes briefly tracing over her features.
“Sorry I’m late, I thought I would get some snacks for our movie,” you explained, hoisting the bag up. Through the thin plastic, Illi could make out the vibrant hue of soda bottles and chips.
“A simple text would have worked,” she said, reaching to take the bag from you – ignoring your protests. Illi linked her arm with yours and led you over to one of the aisles with a white, blood splattered sign labeled Horror. You pressed into her side, your warm presence managing to wash over the dull workday, and Howard’s usual snarky attitude. She clutched onto your arm, wishing she could cocoon herself over you.
“Did you have a movie in mind for tonight?”
Illi hummed in thought, pursuing her lips as she glanced over the movie covers lining the shelves. As she scanned the shelf, her eyes landed on the terror-stricken face of Linda Blair as she clutched onto the iron bars of a gate. The ominous title Hell Night jumped out at her, as the red font stood out amongst the deep blues of the cover.
She picked up the VHS tape, presenting it to you. “How about this?”
“Is it any good?”
“I remember Howard watching it in the back a few days ago,” she said, shrugging.
“It’ll do.” You plucked the tape from her hand and dragged her over to the front counter. Illi giggled at your eagerness, as you slid the tape over to Howard, who looked fed up with the workday already.
Illi’s hold tightened around your arm as she gnawed on her bottom lip, anxious to leave the store. Luckily, Howard said nothing as he rang the movie up. As soon as he handed you the movie and recipe, Illi was already whisking you out the door.
Not before flipping off her co-worker, who only snorted before moving on to help the next customer.
──
Various bags of snacks and candy littered the coffee table. Across from it was the tv, a heavy black box that took a skateboard and three people to haul inside. You were squatting in front of it, causing the fabric of your washed-out jean shorts to tighten around your thighs. Illi flushed, and cleared her throat, adverting her gaze to one of the many bags of junk food. You perked up as the film began to play across the screen and rushed over to the couch.
As you cozied up beside her, Illi pulled the blanket over you two – which was just a handmade quilt from her grandmother – and snaked her arm over your shoulder. She let out a content sigh, as her body immediately relaxed against you.
Illi’s house was quiet – aside from the blaring TV – as her mom was currently at work, and Mikey was staying the night at a friend’s place. It felt like things finally fell into place, where she could have a moment alone with you. Trying to find some semblance of peace was difficult at school, as it was a constant reminder of how separated she felt from everyone else.
Illi felt like some strange stain on the school, as the students either glowered at her or acted as if she were nonexistent. Sometimes she couldn’t decide if she wanted to remain invisible or at least be acknowledged to some degree.
A deep seeded part of her wanted to get away from it all.
Illi shook the thought from her head, and drummed her fingers against your shoulder, trying to remind herself there was another body present. She took a deep breath and focused on the movie.
Well, tried to.
The floral scent of your perfume was beginning to make her head buzz. It flooded her airways, and for a moment she believed she could get drunk off the scent of you alone. Her eyes glanced over at you, to find you completely engrossed in the movie. Your bottom lip was pulled in between your teeth as you stared at the screen. She zeroed in on the tantalizing shine of your lip gloss, wanting to swipe her tongue across it just to know what it tasted like.
“You’re missing the movie,” you whispered, startling her.
She quietly chuckled and looked back over at the TV. Across the screen, Linda Blair’s character, and numerous others, were now approaching a gated house. Illi’s hand came to rest on your thigh, her thumb stroking mindless patterns against your bare skin. She felt you shudder as you adjusted to rest your cheek against her shoulder.
Despite the dark atmosphere, and tense music of the movie, Illi couldn’t help but let her eyes drift back over to you. She anxiously watched your features, finding herself wandering back down to your glossed lips. They were parted in anticipation, as you focused on the movie.
There was something mesmerizing about you, and Illi found she could be content just watching your reactions to the movie. The widening of your eyes, to the breathless gasps from a tense scene.
Illi’s hand wandered up your thigh, her thumb lazily trailing over your warm skin. She leaned forward and began to press faint kisses against your hairline. The sweet fragrance of your shampoo wafted into her nose, forcing her to choke back a groan. Your presence was overwhelming, as it enveloped her in the small, shared space.
“Illi.” You sighed and moved your head to properly look at her. Your heavy eyelids found hers in the dark room, waiting. Her eyes flickered down to your lips, before she leaned forward. As your lips connected, Illi couldn’t hold back the quiet groan that escaped her. Your hand entangled itself in her hair, gently pulling on the strands as her mouth worked against yours. She greedily swiped her tongue across your bottom lip, attempting to lick at the fruity flavored gloss that now coated her taste buds.
“Fuck, you taste good,” she mumbled against you.
Illi moved to straddle you, gently laying you back against the couch. You were sprawled beneath her, as you wrapped your legs around her hips, pulling her closer. Her hand immediately found your thigh, as she gripped at your skin. The kiss was heated as Illi moaned against you, feeling her head go fuzzy as you tugged at her hair. She broke away panting as she began to trail open mouthed kisses down your neck. You whined, desperately bucking against her.
Illi, enamored with the very scent of you, dragged her hot tongue along your collarbone. You gasped from the sensation, and threw your head back, giving her more access.
“What about the movie?” you panted, briefly looking down at her.
“We’ll just rewind it, baby.”
Illi’s hands traveled up the slopes of your body, to rest on the swell of your breast. You hungrily pulled her mouth back to yours, your tongue heatedly sweeping over hers. The kiss was dizzying, as she struggled to keep her hands from trembling against you. Illi’s heart thudded in her chest from your frenzy hands as they wandered up her shirt. The slope of your palms slid over her soft stomach, like an artist carefully gliding their hands over a sculpture. Illi whimpered against your mouth, feeling her heartrate spike as your palms traveled up to her chest. She – reluctantly – detached herself from you and rested her forehead against yours. Your hot breath fanned against her face as you peered up at her, eyes blown wide. A toothy grin spread across Illi’s lips at the sight of your panting form, and giddy eyes.
“Fuck, I really love you,” she confessed, before gently pressing a kiss to the tip of your nose. You giggled, the sound like soothing wind chimes to her ears.
The TV’s faint glow illuminated your flushed face, as the movie played on, now completely abandoned.

The bulb flickered, its dim light barely illuminating the cramped hallway. Gerard watched, anticipating for the moment when it would finally blow out and leave him in the dark. Yet it persisted, offering some comfort to him as it continued to buzz. He exhaled, eyes glancing over to the vacant stairwell, hoping to eventually hear the echo of your bounding footsteps. Where were you?
He dropped his bag onto the floor and whipped out his phone for the umpteenth time. Turning it on, Gerard was immediately greeted by the sight of your smiling face. If he squinted, he could make out the blurry familiar Warped Tour’05 sign hanging up behind you. For a moment he just gazed at the photo, as a flurry of emotions swelled in his chest. Shit, that was over a year ago.
Blinking away the memory, Gerard proceeded to dial your number. He slouched against the wall beside your front door, and held it up to his ear, anxiously pulling at his bottom lip as your phone rang and rang.
“Fuck,” he muttered, hanging up. He quietly groaned, as he realized he might have to camp outside your apartment door for another half hour until you returned. Gerard attempted to entertain himself with the buzzing light bulb, counting each time it blinked until he could no longer tell the difference.
When someone rushed up the steps, he immediately straightened up, waiting to see your familiar face emerge. Disappointment washed over him as he realized it was just another tenant, who had been out walking their canine. The lady glanced over at him warily, keeping the dog close to her hip as they both disappeared into one of the many apartment doors lining the wall across from him.
Gerard rubbed at his jaw, feeling his stomach clench. His fingers were itching for a cigarette, but he just stuffed them in his jean pockets and leaned his head back against the wall. Jet lag had settled in his bones like an old friend, anchoring his legs to the floor. There wasn’t a single thought in his mind that didn’t involve him passing out on a sofa or mattress, hell he would even take a simple sleeping bag. It weighed him down, the exhaustion always prevalent on his weary face, despite the layers of makeup and powder.
Someone was coming up the stairs again, their steps careful as if aware of their own echo. He craned his head and peered down the dimly lit hallway to finally see your approaching figure. It felt like seeing a beacon out at sea, or a streetlamp on a dark corner, as he sighed in relief and pushed himself off the wall.
Your eyes found him, widening in surprise. A grin split on your lovely face, as you rushed towards him. He let out an airy laugh as you threw your arms around his shoulders and proceeded to bury your face in his neck. Gerard’s heart stuttered, as the sharp scent of your perfume caused his stomach to coil. There was a sense of home as he hugged you. It was intimate, and familiar, reminding him of nostalgic nights as a child when the world felt much vaster than it did now.
Back when time felt infinite.
“You’re here, holy shit, you’re here,” you whispered, somehow tugging him closer. His throat tightened at the sudden sound of your sniffles, as your trembling hands dug into the fabric of his coat.
Gerard pulled back, his mouth pulled down in concern as he peered at your face. A few tears had managed to trail down your flushed cheek. He carefully brought his hand up to cup your jaw and swiped at the remaining tears with his thumb – your skin soft and warm beneath. You shyly smiled and removed his hand to lace your fingers together.
“When did you get here?” you asked, glancing over at his bag – which still sat on the floor.
“Almost an hour ago,” he said, shrugging.
You winced. “Shit, I’m sorry. You know how traffic can be in New York.”
He huffed, as he recalled the agonizing commute he had to sit and suffer through every day just to attend his classes. As lively as the city was, he was somewhat glad he didn’t have to deal with the never-ending line of cars and buses anymore.
“Trust me, I remember,” he said, shaking off the memory.
You faintly nodded, and seemed to analyze him for a second, taking in his slouched appearance. “Oh shit, your hair!” you suddenly exclaimed. Your hand reached up to brush at the platinum roots, as if you had forgotten the fact that he dyed it in the first place.
“Didn’t you see the picture I sent you?” he inquired, leaning into your touch. He let out a content sigh, his eyes nearly slipping back from the feeling of your fingers gently tugging at the strands.
“I did,” you assured, smiling at him. “It’s different seeing it in person though. How many slim shady jokes have you gotten so far?”
He snorted. “No one will be happier than me if I never that fuckers name again.”
You chuckled, and walked over to your apartment door, struggling with the lock for a moment before eventually nudging it open with your shoulder.
“Damn doorknob,” you muttered, stepping inside. Gerard swiftly picked up his bag and trailed after you, shutting the door behind him with his boot.
Your apartment was almost as cramped and tight as the hallway. It was a small box, with a kitchen shoved in the corner and a bedroom separated by an archway with a beaded curtain. Gerard dropped his bag by the door, and made a beeline for the couch, immediately sinking into the cushions. He couldn’t help the groan that escaped him as he tilted his back, the exhaustion finally catching up with him.
Gerard closed his eyes and listened to the faint sound of your feet shuffling around the apartment. He could feel your presence waltzing around him, as he heard you make your way to the kitchen and rummage through the cabinets.
“Coffee?” you offered. Despite how comfortable he was, the word was enough for him to pull his sluggish body up off the couch and drag his legs over to you. You placed two steaming mugs of coffee on the foldout dining table and sat down. Gerard sat across from you, wincing as the chair creaked beneath his weight.
“When does the new album come out?” you asked.
“In October,” he replied, taking a sip from his mug.
“Are you excited to embark on another 50-year tour?” You smirked over at him from behind the rim of your mug, the sight causing his heart to spike.
“I’m just relieved that the album is over with,” he said, “it felt like we were working on that fucking thing for forever.” A dry laugh escaped his lips as he peered down at the dark liquid.
Your eyes had dimmed, recollecting the numerous late-night calls when Gerard couldn’t sleep as the album occupied every bit of space in his head. He remembered those nights curled up in his bed, as the Paramour Mansion pressed down on his body like a weighted blanket, intent on suffocating him.
He rapidly blinked, shooing away that thought. Your hand had reached across the table to grasp onto his wrist, your thumb rubbing soothing circles over his pulse.
Gerard shuddered at the contact, his grip tightening on the ceramic handle of the mug. Fuck, why did he have to react this way? You were just friends, have been since college.
He cleared his throat. “Anyway, how have you been? I remember you were trying to go for that promotion; did it work out?”
You immediately brightened, your eyes twinkling at him like the northern star.
“Yeah,” you said, smiling in relief. “I had to bust my ass to get it, but it eventually worked out.”
Gerard grinned, his chest swelling with pride. “Well, did you do anything to celebrate?”
“I didn’t really have time,” you said, shrugging. “My friend Katy tried to set me up on a date with her friend last week, talking about how I needed to let loose and have some “fun” to celebrate.”
Gerard felt his heart sink. “O-Oh,” he stuttered, glancing down at his mug. Your hand was still on his, caressing his wrist.
“How did it…go?” he cautiously asked.
“Not great,” you recalled, letting out a bitter laugh. “He showed up an hour late and then had the nerve to leave me with the fucking bill.”
“What a fucking tool.”
You snorted, nodding in agreement. Your gaze had traveled down to your hand, where you were absent mindedly drawing shapes against his skin.
Gerard swallowed – ignoring the pang in his heart— and carefully moved his hand, his fingers stretching over your own to interlock with them. The movement was cautious, as he focused on the lines of your palm pressed against his own.
You both then sat in a comfortable silence, finishing your bitter cups of coffee.
──
Gerard leaned against your balcony railing, a lit cigarette dangling in between his lips. He glanced up at the starless blanket cocooning the city, hoping to find even a speck among the pervasive night sky. He could feel the city’s heartbeat beneath him, pulsing with constant noise. From the hum of the cars down below, to the occasional giddy packs of friends huddled together as they argued about which bar to go to.
The nightlife brought a certain buzz to the air that Gerard felt come over him even from his place up on the balcony. He twitched, plucking the cigarette from his lip as he glanced down at the world below. A chill breeze caressed his face.
“Hey,” your soft voice came from behind, starling him. You giggled as he whipped around, wide eyed.
“Shit,” he breathed, “I didn’t hear you at first.”
You sidled up beside him. “Sorry about that.”
He sniffed, taking a long drag from his cigarette, humming from the bitter pallet.
“Are you alright?”
He quirked a brow. “Yeah, I was just…”
“Lost in your head?” you suggested, looking over at him.
He blushed, hating how obvious it was when he would space out.
“What’s on your mind?” you asked.
He scoffed, that was always the fucking question. What was on Gerard Way’s mind? The people want to know. The press wants to know. Your fans need to know.
You always look like you’re thinking about something, man.
Gerard glance over at you, to find your eyes patiently watching him. The city lights warm glow splashed over your face, caressing your features. He allowed himself to indulge in this image of you, his gaze following the slope of your nose to the angle of your jaw.
God, you were pretty. He always knew that, but it was startling at times. Gerard felt his stomach flip, as he realized he had been staring too long.
You shifted to properly face him now, your hand moving to grip onto the railing.
“Gerard, I-uh,” you started, struggling to find your voice. You looked off into the city, carefully searching for your next words.
He waited, growing anxious from your silence.
“I’m not imagining things, am I?” you eventually asked. “I mean this thing between us, whatever it is, it’s…something right?”
Gerard grew breathless, as he watched you stammer trying to explain yourself.
“Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but lately…” you trailed off, closing your eyes in frustration. “Fuck, forget it I’m probably not making any sense-
“No!” he interjected, reaching out to grab onto your forearm. “God, I’ve been thinking about you so much lately, but I didn’t want to risk anything and fuck our friendship over because of how I felt. But I really fucking like you, and it’s starting to scare the shit out of me,” he rushed out, the words pouring out of like a broken faucet.
Gerard waited for you to laugh, or shrug him off, and demand that he leaves. He stood, stiff as ever, as if the lack of movement made him invisible. Your silence rang out like a gun shot, the fragments lodging themselves in his heart as you just stared at him.
“Say something,” he quietly pleaded, his voice cracking.
A tender smile broke over your lips, the sight causing his heart to spike. Hope bloomed in his chest, the feeling small and cautious.
“Usually, you kiss a girl after a confession like that,” you said, grinning at him.
Gerard laughed, the sound so sudden and sharp he was unsure if it really came from him at first. He stepped forward, his hand inching forward on the rail until the tips of his fingers brushed over yours. His heart thudded in his chest, as his other hand traveled up your arm to softly caress your cheek. You leaned into his palm, your warm gaze flickering down to his lips.
He gently brushed his lips against yours, worried he might startle the moment. It felt like walking on a thin tight rope and waiting for it to snap. Gerard sighed as his lips met yours and immediately tasted the warm roast of coffee from earlier. You hummed against him, pressing forward. His thumb tenderly stroked your cheek, hoping to memorize its slope. Head buzzing, he hesitatingly deepened the kiss. His eyes rolled back, as your sweet mouth parted against him.
There were nights he dreamed about this, when the rhythm of the tour bus failed to lull him to sleep. He often imagined the soft sight of you, tucked into his side in the bunk, fingers toying with the string of his hoodie. Some nights he would drift off with that image in his head, and find his own hand tangled around the hoodies string.
Gerard surged forward, pressing your back against the rail. His fingers tugged at your belt loops, desperately wanting to become familiar with the mold of your body against his. The way it bent towards him, like a flower drawn to the sun. He felt feverish, as he dusted kiss along your jaw, only growing more eager as you let out a shaky breath.
He half wondered if this might be another dream and would soon find himself waking back up on the tour bus, the delicate press of your lips nothing but another fantasy he conjured up. Your faint pants in his ear, however, reminded him that he was in fact here, with you.
He traveled back up to meet your lips, groaning against their warmth.
The city had never seemed brighter.
