I know there’s an in-universe explanation for why dynamis didn’t affect the Ancients during the Final Days as strongly as the Sundered, so only their creation magic was driven wild, but you get the narrative reason, right?

Hermes’s outrage and despair at the Ancients’ culture and civilization was born from the callous view they took towards life.  Both the Ancients and their creations needed to fulfill a purpose to “deserve” to exist.  Ancients that had fulfilled their goals in life were expected to kill themselves, and this was regarded as a good thing, with life being taken for granted and disposed of just as easily.  Individuality and self-expression were frowned on, seen as divisive and dangerous, with the only acceptable medium being creation magic, but even then flawed or “useless” creations were deemed unfit to live and destroyed without a second thought, even when they were fully conscious, living, breathing things.

So when Meteion unleashes absolute despair on the world in accordance with Hermes’s wish, putting mankind to the test, it is their creations that rise up against them.  Flawed, ugly, useless monsters, the very same that Hermes ardently fought to preserve, arguing that they deserve to live just as much as anyone else, rise up and enact bloody vengeance on their creators, driven by the envy, anger, and resentment that Meteion accrued across the universe in response to Hermes’s own despair at the cruelty shown by the Ancients to their creations.
