BODY OF DEFIANCE (scenography by Liviu Bulea)
Is your body yours or someone else's? Is your body a vehicle or is it you? Who determines what is beautiful and what is ugly? Is your value as a human being just your ability to fit inside the others' standards? Two female bodies and a voice tell two stories which, at first sight, seem totally unrelated, but which complete each other in bringing to life an extremely colorful and crowded world.

#808080
Liviu Bulea’s exhibition project takes over the title embedded in the digital language of gray, which contains in equal proportions the colours red, green and blue. In a structural balance that places it in the area of the so-called “anonymous” from the chromatic point of view, this gray is variable only according to its open-close tones and the speci c attributes of the form that it describes. Cold and warm as well, the favourite gray in liviu bulea’s work is 5 represented in the nature of the objects, in their spatialization elements and in the unitary atmosphere that the project itself emanates: a world of ruins built by the force of industrialization, a huge site in which the building materials develop, by means of mechanisms similar to the natural processes, their own logic of assembly. Liviu Bulea’s artistic life is marked by the reminiscences of the industrial areas, the cement gray that was produced and which penetrated into the breathable air and the familiar landscape of the city of Turda. In the work, this cement-gray becomes a kind of second nature in which man lives building his world from prefabricated materials and its breakable remnants. Man thus describes his own ephemeral, recyclable and simple world, without taking into account his primordial origin and the prominence of organics in the ensemble of terrestrial matter. Geometries describes abstract and monochrome spaces in a very well-metered-element economy. The works become ample conglomerates that store a dead nature and gain “weight” along with the weighting of the gray that composes them. The gray is characterized by the mass the density of which varies in the dark-light ratio of quantities and distributions, giving the feeling that all this rigid accumulation will develop from a certain point in an independent manner, keeping the multiplication algorithm of its own quantity, according to the mechanical rules of composition. Creative play is changed into an autonomous tonal alternating process, and symmetries and asymmetries are a consequence of placements and mutations that gray suffer, once transferred from the real eld of view to the creative-abstract eld. These alternations, which transform the building material into what can be recognized, aesthetically speaking, in the artwork are practically varied stages of reconversion of the matter and overcoming the 7 meaninglessness of “sterile object”. In the terms of description of the classic landscape, this type of object, which takes shape within the work, is nothing but neutral, lifeless matter. #808080 is materialized in a formula of rendering the visual space and its breadth, giving the coordinates of the new concept of how to live and live in the world, of the constant need to adapt the materials to the daily needs and to the requirements of the comfort of daily life, and last but not least, of the topographies of places known and imagined by the artist, based on accumulated memories. Exhibition #808080 appears in the form of conglomerates designed in two-dimensional shapes that are variable in size, some in series, others singular in the project. Each piece is part of a vision of the assembly and composition of identi able elements in industrial processes. Some of them are inspired by the pictorial we usually overlook and that are accidentally transposed into daily reality by joining and overlapping the various material structures. Others are exercises of placement of minimalist compositions of objects and textures, or of incisions and graphic demarcations transposed on the surfaces of monolithic objects. Inspired by gray uniformity, #808080 is a project devoted to non- chromatic variables from ambient environments, but also to the insertion of the arti cial, seen both as a resource and as a residual element in support of vital mechanism.

My installation for Dead Gardens exhibition @v.k.gallery (ongoing project)
This work represents a garden designed and built for the present exhibition. It represents a childhood memory of the gardens surrounding the cement factory in Turda. Because of the excessive pollution, all the fruits, vegetables and plants around the area of the factory were covered in cement, and when it rained, they all became cemented. The entire town was covered in a thin layer of cement; even on spring mornings when my mom was taking me to kindergarten I had the feeling that it had snowed, because of the covering layer of white powder. This garden also represents a metaphor of how we, as a society, surround ourselves with concrete, thus nature becoming a luxury, a place that we visit in our free time. We are estranged from nature, and our ‘natural’ habitat has become concrete walls, roads and sidewalks which we roam on a daily basis in cities which, especially in Romania, have slowly destroyed and got rid of most of their parks and gardens.
