Prompt 8:
Since researching #picturebooks it was clear that tumblr is full of wonderful creativity that immediately sets your mind into a haze of admiration and enchantment that only magical illustrations can offer. Furthermore, i learnt that picture books play a major role in ensuring young minds are nurtured and inspired to see a vision beyond screens.

Placement was incredibly rewarding. I was at a private country school, where the class size was 12. The students were incredibly eager to learn and most were aiming to achieve their pen license within the coming weeks. I took a lesson on writing and demonstrated the importance of writing always slanting the same way (like train tracks). The students responded well, with one student gaining his pen license after a successful week of applying what he learnt in my lesson. The students and school were very encouraging of each other. Students consistently shared their work, including their writing pieces and poetry, amongst their peers, younger foundation students and school fellowships. The class was engaged in a class serial which was read to them everyday. The teacher would ask questions before the book was started up again, to ensure each student remembered where they were up to as well as engaging them with the technic of reiteration. Overall my placement was positive and rewarding.

My favourite primary school memories involve reading. There’s a warmth that comes to my heart when I reflect on this. Distinctly, I remember the teacher reading that terms serial and being taken on an imaginative journey. Forming those descriptive words into images, sounds, feelings was honestly so enjoyable. Having that brain break, where we could let our mind explore and wonder will always stay with me, and will carry on into my own teaching practices.
Prompt One 2018
ECL310
When I was in grade three I remember my teacher reading to the class Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We sat in silence absorbing every word, it was fantastic!. The teacher read Roald’s next book Charlie and The Glass Elevator as well and it was also a big favourite. Years later I was lucky enough to be teaching my own grade 3 and 4′s when the Harry Potter series came out. Once again a class sat in silence absorbing very word as this time I read the novel to the grade.
For your reflection this week we would enjoy discovering your memories of being read to. Preferably this would come from your own classroom experiences, otherwise, it can be a reflection on what a parent read to you, or if that doesn’t fit, you can share what you would like to read to a class when you have the chance.
All of the ECL310 team look forward to sharing in this,
be creative, make a video, a Wordle, a sound recording, a cloze activity, anything you like!
And here is a youtube assisting us in promoting the importance of adults reading to ALL children!

Good luck!
