A girl and her bees waiting for spring. 🐝 🐝 🐝 This is my kid - holding the offspring of the mason bees she raised in our tiny urban backyard last year when she was only 3. She is emotionally invested. She's not scared of them, nor should she be. She believes she needs to protect them and give them a helping hand. 🐝 🐝 🐝 This project was a perfect introduction to bees for my little ones. Mason bees are extremely gentle - it's unlikely that you would ever get stung (males don't even have stingers). They are active for about six weeks and they'll stick around foraging and nesting in your garden (provided they have a home and flowering plants). We made a bee house out of a recycled juice carton and constructed nesting tubes by wrapping parchment paper around pencils. It's really that cheap and easy. #savethebees #raisingthefuture #nativebees #springisontheway #naturechild (at Toronto, Ontario)

A rainbow to add some cheer to these unbearably cold days. They're coloured ice pucks - and we all smiled when we discovered them buried under the snow in our back garden. #livemoremagic #lifewithkids #looseparts #snowydays #slowparenting #unpluggedchildhood #raisingthefuture #simplethings #makethemostofit #nothingisordinary #spreadjoy (at Toronto, Ontario)

All-natural Cozy Clove Playdough Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup salt
2 cups flour
2 cups of water
2 tbsp cream of tartar
2 tbsp of ground clove
2 tbsp oil
Directions
Mix all the ingredients in a heavy-bottomed pot or saucepan.
Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly for about 3-5 minutes. The dough will start to pull away from the sides of the pan and should no longer be sticky to the touch. (If it’s still sticky cook a little longer until it’s not.)
Remove the dough from the pot. Allow to cool slightly and knead.
OPTIONAL Pair dough with whole cloves (they’re great for pincer grasp practise)
Store dough in an air-tight container.

Blueberry scones made with coconut milk. 💙💙💙 I recently won a Ricardo Cuisine prize pack from @best_ofthislife which included the winter 2018 issue. These delicious scones were inspired by their food waste management column on coconut milk. My eldest daughter is lactose intolerant so swapping out the cream with coconut milk meant she could happily devour these goodies with her sisters. #scones #livelifehappy #bakeit #simplethings #comfortfood (at Toronto, Ontario)
