Personally, I'm a big fan of my "Flashback Theory" What if later in the Game there is a playable sequence showing the event of Dess's disappearance. Naturally we would possess Kris during that, but from their perspective it would happen before chapter 1, explaining why they seem to be aware of us at the beginning of the game already

Why does Kris have a cage?

An odd detail that I think still hasn't been explained so far (correct me if there is actually an explanation) is Kris's bird cage or cage in general.

There is no indication of a pet or dialogue that I've seen where the cage is mentioned or explained. This could either just be a random thing Kris has lying around/for a past prank or something.

Or, it could be because they were already a vessel before.

Kris being a vessel before makes sense considering their reaction at the end of Chapter 1. They aren't calling for help, nor are they totally distraught of the idea of something piloting them for the entire day. If Kris was freaking out they would've used their time during the night to talk to Toriel or something instead of eating the whole damn pie. They act as if this has happened before and simply locks the soul in the cage.

I think this is because Kris has experienced being a vessel before.

There could be two possibilities here:

Kris was being piloted by someone else for most of their life up until we came. Or...

There was only a short period in their life that they were being "possessed" and suddenly stopped.

I think the 2nd one is more likely. But when was this short period exactly?

I believe it was during Dess Holiday's disappearance and I think Kris directly caused Dess's tragedy. Just imagine a Chara-sized Kris being forced to be the catalyst of this tragedy, similar to what players have been doing in the weird route.

This of course would make Kris blame themselves for not only Dess's disappearance/or death but also getting Asgore kicked out of the police force and leading to their parent's divorce.

And this is why they've been helping the Knight and is probably working towards saving Dess. THIS is the promise they made long ago, the promise that the mysterious caller reminds Kris at the end of Chapter 4.

This also explains why Kris is so distrustful of us, even when we go pacifist and select all the options Kris would probably do. They think it's the same entity as before, trying to cause harm again.

And who may you ask was the past "pilot"?

W.D. Gaster...or not lol but probably Gaster. This explains the beginning of the whole game, why Gaster is looking for a "connection" or someone on the other side, and why he puts us in Kris. Now as to why the previous "pilot" lost control...idk! Maybe because they fell into their own creation and were spread across time and space :P

Look I'm sorry to anyone who thought the Saja Boys were a real band, but it was obviously fake from the beginning.

Huntr/x has been doing this gimmick for years where they'll put on a performance and some actors dressed up like demons will "interrupt" it or get into some choreo fights on stage and stuff. If you're a fan you know, the demons usually symbolize things like industry corruption, Mira's struggle with her family, Rumi being in the closet, etc, and there's lots of hints and secret messages to the fans in what they're wearing or how they show up. Check out huntresx5evah on blsky they've got an extensive examination of the "demons" over the years and what the messages to the fans are.

In the concert before Golden was released, the demons were dressed like flight attendants. That was the indication that something new was about to take off. @/queenhuntrixdontmiss and I speculated that it was going to be a new single and low and behold, it was.

But then the live performance got cancelled. It's an open secret that Rumi was having vocal issues, so that was probably not planned. They needed to buy time for her to recover, so, enter the Saja Boys -- a fake band of guys really clearly pretending to be demons, they release ONE single, do a bunch of b-tier variety shows for a week, nearly all of their public appearances have Huntr/x right there, keeping the hype and energy up until Rumi can get her throat polyps removed and furthering the routine where Huntr/x are supposed to be secret demon hunters and the Saja Boys are supposed to be secret demons.

Then the whole thing culminates in the Golden live performance at the idol awards, the big act with Huntr/x fake "break up" and the subsequent theatrics to make it up to fans for failing the first Golden performance. Huntr/x takes their obligation to fans very seriously, I've no doubt that they all felt terrible about having to cancel, so a free show was the obvious recourse to try and make it up to people. And they pulled out all the stops!

But the Saja Boys were never real. I mean they got real guys to pretend to be a boy band and do the dancing and lip syncing obviously, but come on, most of them didn't even have names.
