i need to make a shoutout post for the ioway tribe's bee farm products right now
esp this:
Tumblr media
THE LOTION BAR.
why do i love it so much? bc it repels mosquitos WAY BETTER THAN BUG SPRAY. Not only does it make ur skin smell like honey, it forms a waxy seal that buggy chompers cant bite through.
it also soothes bug bites, rashes, and itchy skin.
my partner has the Yummy Blood that mosquitos find irresistable. we tried so many repellents, the wristbands, the candles... nothing seemed to keep them away. out of curiosity and desperation, we tried this lotion bar and the results have been life-changing for us. it is EXCEPTIONAL.
if u or someone u know is bug bait, i cannot recommend this tribe's beeswax bar enough. please support native businesses, ditch the bug spray. this stuff works, and smells, way way way better than anything else.
Not to mention they have REALLY GOOD HONEY.

Do you actually ship them or do you want them to be trapped together in a cave-in where one of them is injured and they have to talk to keep them distracted and stay sane while they wait for help, and end up opening up about their vulnerabilities and bond and then grow desperate as one starts to slip from consciousness while the other begs them to stay awake—

I've found that "don't act like the kind of people you wouldn't want to interact with" is a very good self-care/protection praxis. "Like attracts like" might not be true on a metaphysical level, but it's an accurate enough heuristic in social contexts because people tend to gravitate toward people who put off vibes they resonate with. Act like the kind of person you would want to interact with, and you'll find that you don't deal with nearly as many obnoxious people.

if I had a nickel for every time someone was like. actually I hate you (hyperbole). you violated my boundary repeatedly. goodbye. and then I look at the boundary and it's something that was never communicated to me, I'd have two nickels, which is the market rate for making this joke

completely contextless personal drama ahead but like >misinterprets what im saying and accuses me of trying to sidestep "genuine conversations about group efficacy and relationship building"
however >was/is in charge of responding to people so i don't have to; did so after such a long delay or so inconsistently that help was not obtained; failed to reach out to orgs with free resources >failed to be the one to initiate any of the serious conversations that we had (serious conversations were about the distribution of labor, sustainability of the group, effects of the work on my >claimed to have "clearly communicated" stuff that i only learned about when they said that they clearly communicated it >did not tell me about small additional things that they were doing as a group without me, both social and group-related, returning to the place we were at, and then later made social plans in front of me without inviting me (relationship building), even after i had communicated that i felt like i was being left out and kept out of the loop about everything >inconsistently followed up on plans to discuss logistical planning, mostly leaving me to figure out what to do on my own >suggested reducing work (which involves discussions about relative values of essential items) without providing an idea of what that might entail (a (series of) decision(s) i was unwilling to make on my own) and never following up with anything actionable >does not like that labor is spent on tracking various data points that are key to, among other things, public accountability and efficacy
like girl what am i supposed to do with this

my dad used to show me these hawaiian fish card guides when i was a little kid that had soooo many different kinds of fish on each card - this is inspired by those, but a little less crowded!
i'm planning on getting this made as a sticker later this summer and donating some funds from my shop to a hawaiian org! any suggestions for what indigenous led groups to look into?

once a friend from Ohio casually dropped driving to another state for a concert and when I expressed surprise at the effort that must've gone into the endeavor, he explained that it wasnt actually all that much effort because it was the Midwest and everything was closer, which didnt make sense to me because I've seen how big those states are. Hell, when I was in Milwaukee (for concerts lol), I checked how long it would take to drive to one of my works offices, and it was like 4 hours, same drive to San Simeon (elephant seals) — definitely longer than I'd want to drive casually. but it's now occured to me what's probably like 4 years after this conversation that like...the nearest out-of-state metropolitan areas to where I live are like...well, in Mexico several times, but if you want to stay in the country, then it's Las Vegas (4 hrs) and then nothing, and then Phoenix (5+ hrs) (mind, I'm checking these hours at 4 in the morning on a Friday night...), like basically casually leaving the state for a night when you're in the LAGMA is pretty much just not something that people do. But the Great Lakes area is pretty metropolitan-area-dense. Of course the idea of crossing state lines is gonna be different. Wild.
