Apple does not have access to your stored passwords when they are stored on their servers. We cannot recommend Google's password storage and syncing through Chrome at this time. Google has access to your unencrypted passwords.

Select a long phrase that you will remember, but is not that easy to guess.

Include at least one of each: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers and special characters.

I’m a big 1Password fan, and it’s one of the things which kept me from using Opera 12.15 and below. The new Opera is based on Chromium however, so it’s sorta-kinda compatible with Chrome extensions 😉

Note- I was able to install the extension using the instructions I’ve written up below. I can’t guarantee it’ll work for you. It might very well corrupt your 1Password file, or do nasty things. It will also be overwritten (and need to be run again) once Agilebits updates their Extension. In Short – YMMV.

First off, we’ll need to download the 1Password Chrome Plugin, from Agile Bit’s site

Make sure you click the “Allow beta extensions” button. Then, click the download button next to “Google Chrome”.

Opera will say *”Extension was disabled because it is from unknown source. Go to the Extension Manager to enable it.”*, click “OK”.

Go to Window, then select Extensions, to open the Extension Manager.

One there, the 1Password extension will be greyed out. Press Install.

It will prompt you again in a little pop-up. Press install again. Make a note of the version- In the case of our screenshot, it’s such as 3.9.20.2 If the plugin updates later, and this version has changed, you’ll need to re-run these steps.

Close both the Opera Extensions window, and the Agilebits “Extension Setup” Tab. Go to File, and choose “Close Tab” for both tabs. If you do not do this step, when Opera re-opens it will re-open the Agilebits Extension installer , and re-install the default version of the extension. This would undo the changes we make below, so make sure you close this 😉

Quit Opera. Make sure you go to the Opera menu, and choose Quit, even if no webpages are showing.

Open the Terminal (It’s in Applications, Utilities) This will allow us to perform the additional steps necessary to load the extension. You can also open the terminal through Spotlight if that’s easier 😉

Move to the directory where your Opera Extensions are installed. Enter the following command into the Terminal, and press enter.

Next we need to locate the 1Password extension we just installed. The exact name changes, so we want to look for it in the “Info.plist” file that is distributed with the Extension. The following “Find” command will search for it, then move to it’s directory.

Chrome has an “Omnibox” which combines the URL bar with Search. Opera has something similar, but doesn’t let extensions talk to it yet – So we need to remove this code from the Extension, so it can load in Opera. Run the two commands below in the Terminal.

Re-open Opera. You should be all set at this point – The extension will need to sync, which might take a minute or two after clicking on the icon. You might also find you have luck opening or closing the window which loads the extension.

Notes-

I had initially thought that it would be a lot more complicated to port the extension, but Opera does not seem to have changed the internals as much as I thought. For instance, 1Password uses tests such as

These work with “chrome”, not “opera”. The most complicated part is that Chrome 15 does not have the Omnibar property.

I’m not an expert, but there appears to be a few other cases where the extension could be updated to use more recent methods, such as moving sendRequest -> sendMessage, or chrome.tabs.getSelected -> chrome.tabs.query. In all, it appears to work, however.

What to do if PS4 Remote Play won’t connect

If you’re encountering an error with Remote Play, or if the feature suddenly stops working for no apparent reason, the following solutions should help.

Check the PlayStation Network status.

Before you troubleshoot your PC or PS4, make sure that you visit the PlayStation Network status page to see if there’s any issue from Sony’s side.

Check your internet connection speed.

Slow or intermittent connection speed can significantly impact how Remote Play works. Make sure to run a connection speed test on your PS4 first to see if it’s getting the minimum 15Mbps download and upload speeds. Your computer should also meet with the minimum speed requirements. To check for a possible intermittent connection issue, you’ll need to observe your network. Using your other devices (smartphones or computers), try to see if the connection keeps dropping for a few hours. If internet connection is unstable or constantly disconnecting, you’ll need to fix this issue first in order to reliably use Remote Play.

Use wired connection.

If you are using wireless or wifi connection with your PS4, it’s possible that there may be wifi signal interference that causes the connection to drop. Try using an ethernet connection from the router to your PS4 before attempting to use Remote Play again. If a wired connection is not possible, move the PS4 closer to the router so as to ensure that it gets a good wifi signal.

Update your PS4 software.

One of the simplest ways to keep bugs away is to ensure that your PS4 runs the most recent software. To manually check for software updates: -Go to your PS4 Home screen. -Go to the Settings Menu. -Select System Software Update.

Restart Remote Play on your PC.

If Remote Play still won’t connect, make sure that you restart it. On your computer, open the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL), select PS4 Remote Play under the Processes tab, then hit the End Task button at the lower right.

Reboot the computer.

If restarting the Remote Play application will not fix the error or connection issue, the next good thing that you can do is to restart your computer. This ensures that you address possible temporary bugs with your PC that might be interfering with Remote Play.

Power cycle your local networking devices.

While your PC is restarting, take the time to also refresh your network connection. To do that, you want to unplug your modem and/or router from the power outlet or strip for about 30 seconds.

Disable your antivirus and/or firewall.

For some, disabling their security software like antivirus or similar fixes Remote Play issues. If your computer’s firewall is active, you should consider turning off that too for testing purposes. Or, you can make an exception in your firewall settings to allow Remote Play to establish a connection. Use Google to know how to do this suggestion.

Delete and reinstall Remote Play.

If all the possible causes have been checked and not one of the solutions above has helped so far, consider deleting and reinstalling Remote Play.

It’s good to be cautious and it’s never a good idea to enter your legitimate credentials into any website you are not confident about. The ones to watch especially are those who ask you to input your credentials.

Even if the password was sent to us, we wouldn’t actually know who you were anyway – so couldn’t match it up to any usernames or any websites you may visit

How does My1Login's Password Strength Checker work?

The password strength calculator uses a variety of techniques to check how strong a password is. It uses common password dictionaries, regular dictionaries, first name and last name dictionaries and others. It also performs substitution attacks on these common words and names, replacing letters with numbers and symbols – for example it’ll replace A’s with 4’s and @’s, E’s with 3’s, I’s with 1’s and !’s and many more. Substitution is very typical by people who think they’re making passwords stronger – hackers know this though so it’s one of the first things hacking software uses to crack a password

The password strength meter checks for sequences of characters being used such as '12345' or '67890'

It even checks for proximity of characters on the keyboard such as 'qwert' or 'asdf'.

Common mistakes and misconceptions

Replacing letters with digits and symbols. This technique is well known to hackers so swapping an 'E' for a '3' or a '5' for a '$' doesn't make you much more secure

That meeting the minimum requirements for a password makes it strong. By today's standards, an 8-character password won't make you very secure

That it’s fine to use the same password a lot as long as it’s strong – what if the website is hacked? Do you know how the website stores your password? What if they store it in plaintext?

Weak practices – storing passwords in the notes field on your phone, does it auto sync to the cloud, iCloud or Dropbox

Passphrase

A passphrase is simply a password, that’s longer, it could be a sentence, with spaces and punctuation in it. The benefit of a passphrase is that typically they’re easier to remember, but more difficult to crack due to their length. For every additional character in the length of a password or passphrase, the time it would take to break increases exponentially. Ultimately that means that having a long password or passphrase can make you far more secure than having a short one with some symbols or numbers in it.
