I think what gets me is that no matter how much time passes, the world continues to rotate, it continues to live and breathe. There’s so much that goes on in a single persons life, even their mind for that matter. And I remember when I was a kid, I was told that each and every person has an entire universe built within them. Then, I never really realized what that exactly meant. How each and every person has experienced something you’ve never even thought of experiencing. How everyone knows something that you know nothing about. How there’s so many thoughts that flow through someones mind simply in a matter of moments. How smelling the scent of rain can bring utter peace to your mind, or cause you an ultimate meltdown. It’s a matter of time. It’s always been about time- life, that is. Years, days, months, seconds, moments, decades. It seems that no matter how much time could go by, certain parts of your life continue to stick with you. Whether they’re special moments spent with people you don’t know anymore, because they’re living in their own time. Or emotions felt so deep to your core, that the feelings even years later cannot be shaken when thought about. Or relationships that you try to mend, trying to pretend nothing bad happened, because you miss the simple laughs. I think what gets me, is that no matter how much time passes, these things will always stick to you. That no matter how much time could possibly pass, there will always be pieces of you that will remain broken, wishing to repair certain parts of your lost time.

When you see/find/hear something that completely alters your mood and takes you back to another time. Its crazy how quickly even the smallest/simplest of things can unleash a never ending hurricane of memories. How even a scent can bring you back to a certain place or feeling in life. How the warm glow of the sun shining reminds you of the first person you ever loved. Or how the taste of mint tea makes you miss the person you once were. How you see a young child and her father and reminisce of when your father was sober and loved you. How running through the leaves on the ground makes you feel like a kid again. How you find old pieces of writing and remember how awful being a teenager was. How you look at the scars on your body and remember that cold winter night you tried to kill yourself. How an old song comes on and you remember how happy you were to be alive in that moment. How the smell of fresh morning dew takes you back to the day you decided to stop taking pills. How when the sunsets you’re brought back to the night you knew you were in love. How the stars in the sky remind you of the freckles on your best friends face that you thought you were in love with. How the taste of hot chocolate takes you back to being a little kid curled up on the couch watching Christmas movies with your mother. How the bruises on your arms take you back to the night your dad threw a chair at you. How the way the sunlight hits your face brings you back to the day you finally realized it was time to get help, and you’re so happy you did. How as the cold rain hits your face you remember the day you brought yourself to tell someone you were raped when you were 14. How you lay in the warm grass and suddenly are brought back to the day you did a tarot card reading with your best friend and both cried at how beautifully accurate and hopeful the results were. How you accidentally cut yourself on something and are taken back to the first night you put a razor to your skin. How a Radiohead song comes on and you remember being 17 and walking through the first snowfall by yourself and crying tears of joy because you finally felt like a living person again. How you look at the lit cigarette in your hand and you remember when the two of you drunkenly ran around outside of my moms apartment in the pouring rain looking for a dry place to smoke. How when you stand alone at night in the pouring rain you remember what its like the day things got so bad you couldn’t feel anything at all. How you look at the beautiful flowers on your arm and remember the day your mother first saw what lies beneath them, how the sorrow and tears that filled her eyes made you feel less alone and there was hope you could get better. How you accidentally burn yourself with a cigarette and are taken back to the summer day your father put one out on the back of your hand. How the smile exchanged between you and a passing stranger reminds you of a familiar face you once knew and you long for when they were still alive and breathing. How when a man raises his voice with you, you still flinch and remember all of the times your father or your past lover would scream at you with the most cold hearted look in their eyes and you knew what was coming next. How when you wake up in the morning somewhere you don’t want to be and remember the excitement all throughout your body the first morning of waking up in your new home. How the never ending tears stream down your face and you’re taken back to the night you thought they would never stop and you remember how happy you’ve been since then.

You think you know death. But you don’t. Not until you’ve seen it. Really seen it. And it gets under your skin and lives inside you. You also think you know life. You stand on the edge of things and watch it go by, but you’re not living it. Not really. You’re just a tourist. A ghost. And then you see it. Really see it. And it gets under your skin and lives inside you, and there’s no escape. There’s nothing to be done, and you know what? It’s good. It’s a good thing. And that’s all I’ve got to say about it.

Get you a girl who makes you wanna wear your seat belt. I know, something so simple right, but when you’re someone who used to sit in cars and go as fast as you can hoping that on the off chance something would go wrong and you would have a “good” reason for dying then it matters. So get you a girl who makes you buckle up everywhere you go because as long as you’re seeing her beautiful smile you’re wanting to live.
