VISIONS: Listening to what you say, I get the impression that your relation to your brother has calmed down
Liam: Yeah, it's all right now.
VISIONS: He's said some things about your songwriting. In an interview with 'taz' he said, that "Little James" was only on "Standing On...", because you probably wouldn't have written another song if it hadn't been on the album. But actually he thought the song was crap. That sounds like educational measures, as if a teacher were talking about his student.
Liam: I don't mind that he says stuff like that, but I think this is not the right way to deal with these things. "Little James" shouldn't have been on the album. That was a private thing, if I look back now. It's no Oasis song! It was a mistake. But it's a good song, compared to the first songs of other people.
VISIONS: Do you feel like Noel respects you more than he used to?
Liam: Maybe. But basically he's always accepted me. At the end of the day I'm the one who sings his songs. I think he just pays more attention to what I'm doing or what I want to do.
VISIONS: Meanwhile, he's praising your songwriting skills to the skies and says that in five years, you'll be good as him.
Liam: I'll be better than him! Noel constantly contradicts himself. Oasis itself is one giant contradiction - that's simply what we are and what we do.

You seem to be coming from a pretty optimistic place, though, with Council Skies. I guess it’s uplifting in the right places, and it’s melancholy in the right places. I think it’s quite an honest record. I don’t like to make the [songs] too autobiographical. I certainly wouldn’t draw attention to the parts of songs that are about me and my life. “Dead to the World” is very autobiographical. So are “Think of a Number,” “Council Skies” and “Trying To Find a World That’s Been and Gone.” -- noel interview, spin.com, may 25, 2023

In terms of online reception, the title track “Council Skies” might have been panned even harder than “Pretty Boy”…as, musically, they’re quite similar! “Council Skies” shares the same chord progression as “Pretty Boy,” which some perceive as a lack of creativity while others view it as a reinvention. I lie somewhere in the middle, as it is my least favorite of our five singles. Reusing chords is a technique reminiscent of Oasis, which wouldn’t have concerned me in subsequent releases. However, having such similarity on the same album feels somewhat disconcerting. Nevertheless, it’s worth mentioning that The Reflex Revision version featured on the deluxe edition effectively masks these similarities and has become my preferred version.
- RSU Radio Review of Council Skies, June 2, 2023
#2023#council skies#pretty boy#as the reviewer says re-using chords is not anything new for noel#what stood out to me was the idea of connecting these two songs in particular in this way#goes along with tag for#lyric analysis#cs album

"We fight about nothing, everything, the weather," admits Noel. "We just spend too much time together. We used to get along famously. It's like any relationship, familiarity breeds contempt. We just had a month off and we've been on this tour for four days, and the first two days were great. And then it started getting back to the way it was. Arguing and fighting." He is quiet for a moment, then adds regretfully, "It's not just big massive, major blows. It's just like petty things. It's childish."
—The Manchester Rockers Take On the World | 1995

don’t stop (the happening) is the full original title of don’t stop… circa 2008/2009. that’s been going through my head since yesterday.
noel released don’t stop… as a random oasis demo april 2020 claiming he had lost it and just found it. it’s the first oasis release since 2009. it includes one of the best bridges noel ever wrote:
from time to time, though we’re whole worlds apart you will still hold a groove in my heart from time to time, we will fall side by side you’ll still have that look in your eye
he rerecords it himself and then it is the basis for sound of his council skies album, which is demoed in 2021, recorded 2022, and released 2023.
2024 we’ve gotten a steady stream of single song releases from oasis since april in anticipation of the definitely maybe 30th anniversary rerelease, including 3 alternative versions of songs never heard before: an extended columbia, a more beatlesque up in the sky, and a young liam’s haunting sad song.
the last one released several days into a new batch of reunion rumors and just a few days before the times drops a scoop saying they’re reuniting. the next day a date and time in the oasis logo is dropped at a dm30 anniversary gig plus a blossoms gig and then posted/tweeted out by official oasis accounts and noel and liam, all within a few minutes of each other. a true happening!!
the world waits for that date and time on pins and needles and worrying it’s all a ruse it’s bullshit it’s just another dm30 thing. and they drop the news.
it’s official. oasis is back. 2025, 15 dates, 5 locations.
don’t stop the happening…
#2020#don't stop#pre reunion speculation#i don't think it's a coincidence that noel released this when he did#maybe one day the full story will come out#but choosing 'don't stop'--a love song reassuring the listener that he is coming home#he's not stupid#when music historians look back at this period of oasis they'll look at 'don't stop' as a signal#the way they'll look at council skies as a signal
