Turmeric Body Butter
It may seem that making your own body products is really complicated. And believe me, a lot of them are not. If you love using body butters, I found this Tumeric Body Butter recipe from The Soap Queen that you may want to try making on your own. This recipe has a few ingredients but just to let you know that they are the right ones. This easy recipe takes 30 minutes to complete and results in about 20 ounces in product.

The Girl He Used to Know Book Review
I received The Girl He Used to Know in exchange for this post. All opinions and my love for reading remain my own.
The Girl I Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves is a Contemporary Romance novel. I think love is a beautiful story, no matter the characters and loves companion is hope. We have hope for forever. We have hope that we will grow old and grow with someone.
Truly The Girl I Used to know delivers the warm, tender moments and all the kisses. It’s a love story after all.
When past mistakes make you into a stronger individual, for the sake of wanting the one true person that makes you better, that’s what this compelling romance does to the wonderful characters…
The main character Annika is an odd girl, strange by some accounts, who never got the manual for life. Her story beings meeting Jonathan, her ex-college boyfriend. There are no details to the breakup, or why they lost touch for nearly a decade, but we get the feeling it was Annika’s fault.
“But I will call. I’ll apologize. Ask him if we can start over. “Clean slate,” I’ll say. Such is my desire to replace the memories of the girl he used to know with the woman I’ve become.”
This new meeting rekindles their romance and watch as they grow individually and together.
Annika is a warm and recognizes that she does not know anything. What she does know is love. Annika is a great character that the reader can embrace. The author writes as if she is putting us inside Annika’s mind and we become part of the fragmentation and observations.
You’ll meet Janice, the girlfriend everyone needs in their life. I love Janice because she’s advocating for another girl.
Jonathan is the boy our momma’s warned us about. He is mindful and selfless, loving and noble; or perhaps the wolf in sheep’s clothing. I’ll leave this to you.
It’s a story about love and perhaps the feelings of settling. Making ourselves a better version and getting up when we feel defeated. It’s about evaluating our own life regardless of who you want to be with.
The writing is fluid. It’s romantic.

“The President Sang Amazing Grace”
President Obama singing “Amazing Grace” in Charleston, South Carolina, June 26, 2015. This may be a wire service photo, but credit was stripped off.
Joan Baez says she’s made her last album, maybe will stop touring soon.
But she’s still speaking out for good, for equality, for civil rights, against violence.
Here’s a sharp animated video made for a song Baez released this year, “The President Sang Amazing Grace.” We once had a president who would do that. Atlantic Magazine highlights a few outstanding films, and this is one.
Details from YouTube’s listing:
“I was driving when I heard ‘The President Sang Amazing Grace,’” Joan Baez told The Atlantic, “and I had to pull over to make sure I heard whose song it was because I knew I had to sing it.” The 77-year-old folk legend included the song in her final album, Whistle Down The Wind, released in early March. Originally written and performed by Zoe Mulford following the 2015 mass shooting in a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina, Baez’s rendition of “The President Sang Amazing Grace” has been animated in a powerful new video. Read more: https://www.theatlantic.com/video/ind… “The President Sang Amazing Grace” is performed by Joan Baez, written by Zoe Mulford, and animated in this video by Jeff Scher. Decor Ideas for Master Bathroom
ashu. Bathroom. August 29th , 2018.
Master Bathroom Décor Ideas Bathroom décor has become the new emerging trend because of which various people are striving to adopt different interior designs for personalization of the bathroom space. Master bathroom is a very personal space for couples and can be made extravagant and aesthetically pleasing with the help of a vibrant and refreshing colour scheme and use of luxurious sanitary fittings. There are many themes and décor ideas in which different designs can be used which people can opt for depending upon individual choices and preferences. The material supply companies catering to such services are coming up with more creative and offbeat ideas to make the user experience of bathroom fittings and functions very vivid and functional. This has in turn given a significant shoot to the emergence of such ventures in the global market. Some of the most commonly used master bathroom décor ideas are as follows:
The effect of the colour scheme and texture: A monochromatic colour scheme with just one wall of the bathroom in a complimentary texture or colour can highlight that particular space and make it the focus in the bathroom. It can act as a good piece of décor for a monochromatic bathroom colour scheme. Even a complimentary sanitary fixture would suffice in case of a black and white texture and colour of the bathroom design. Giving a similar colour scheme for every wall of the bathroom alongside a similar shade of ground surface and flooring can help in differentiating the shade of furniture and will give the whole space an extremely nostalgic look. It is hard to locate the right amalgamation of materials and surfaces when the colour shading is kept the same. Be that as per the design, the correct outline decision will give amazing outcomes as far as the impression and feel of the space is concerned.
An efficient Storage space: A bathroom is where everybody does the basic day by day activities like showering and cleaning. So alongside usefulness, space should likewise have a great deal of capacity put which will enable a person to store the majority of their possessions. Be a bathroom is altogether different from the other spaces of the house. They require nearly less storage area but is very essential to store the important prerequisites of the everyday use. So a secluded storage area in the form of different the shelves on one wall of the bathroom can be an exceptionally feasible alternative as it won't just help in using the space in a proficient way but will likewise upgrade the look of the space. Modular storage space is the most suitable when it comes to the storage of substances and personal belongings in the bathroom as it increases the space for other fixtures making it look less cluttered.
Vintage with a twist: This is certainly not an extremely favoured alternative for the majority of the people as the financial cost for the materials increases when it comes to vintage style or obsession of vintage furniture pieces or craftsmanship for bathroom decor. The vintage materials and furnishings are enormously luxurious however they are usually not the ones to be practical. This is the best alternative to people who are willing to spend some amount of money for the vintage décor in the bathroom. The design can be more personalized with the use of different textures on one wall of the bathroom. This will lead to an amalgamation of vintage design and modern twist. It can be a great fusion design for bathroom décor. The material generally used for this kind of décor is wood or laminate with a similar finish. There are many materials available in the market with vintage style textures for flooring tiles, wall tiles used in the bathroom.
Apart from these décor ideas, there are various companies with experts in provision and installation of fixtures and furnishings ranging from low cost to expensive depending upon the space requirement and the type of technology used in the bathroom design. They have been very successful in meeting up with the customized space and service needs of few customers. There is a supply of efficient services along with the provision of help in taking the necessary steps required to make those services of fixtures and bathroom fittings productive for the customers. The customization and personalization opportunities that come with the supply of these products even make it more desirable amongst the customers. The manufacture and supply chain of such functional bathroom fixtures is increasingly scattering in different areas of the world because of its increasing demand from customers.

Foxtons founder reveals plans for Shoreditch hotel
Foxtons founder Jon Hunt has announced plans to build a 145-bedroom hotel at 49-51 Paul Street in Shoreditch, east London.
According to the Evening Standard, Hunt secured a resolution to grant planning permission from Hackney council, and said Shoreditch is a “great place to invest in”.
Architectural firm Jestico + Whiles will design the building, which will include a cafe or restaurant.
Hunt told the Evening Standard: “Shoreditch has recently become a destination of choice for tech companies together with a wide range of start ups and this, coupled with demand from younger tourists, makes this a good place to construct and open a hotel.”
James Dilley, director at Jestico + Whiles, added: “The proposals for the new hotel on Paul Street respond directly to the area’s architectural and cultural context in the heart of Shoreditch.
“We’re delighted this has been recognised by the London Borough of Hackney and look forward to seeing this increasingly busy thoroughfare through Shoreditch reactivated.”

December 31 is Bright Idea Day 2018, anniversary of the Day the Lights Went On
Between Christmas and New Year’s Day, here at Millard Fillmore’s Bathtub we celebrate a variety of historically holy days. December 31, by tradition, is Bright Idea Day, the anniversary of the day Thomas Edison demonstrated for the public a working light bulb, in 1879.
100,000 people gather in Times Square, New York City (surely not the 2 million predicted by NBC!) tonight, and millions more around the world, in festivities for the new year made possible by the work of Thomas Alva Edison.
Here it is, the invention that stole sleep from our grasp, made clubbing possible, and launched 50,000 cartoons about ideas:
The light bulb Thomas Edison demonstrated on December 31, 1879, at Menlo Park, New Jersey – Wikimedia image (GFDL)
The light bulb. It’s an incandescent bulb.
It wasn’t the first bulb. Edison a few months earlier devised a bulb that worked with a platinum filament. Platinum was too expensive for mass production, though — and Edison wanted mass production. So, with the cadre of great assistants at his Menlo Park laboratories, he struggled to find a good, inexpensive filament that would provide adequate life for the bulb. By late December 1879 they had settled on carbon filament.
Edison invited investors and the public to see the bulb demonstrated, on December 31, 1879.
Thomas Edison in 1878, the year before he demonstrated a workable electric light bulb. CREDIT: Thomas Edison, head-and-shoulders portrait, facing left, 1880. Prints and Photographs Division, Library of Congress. Reproduction number LC-USZ62-98067
Edison’s successful bulb indicated changes in science, technology, invention, intellectual property and finance well beyond its use of electricity. For example:
Edison’s Menlo Park, New Jersey, offices and laboratory were financed with earlier successful inventions. It was a hive of inventive activity aimed to make practical inventions from advances in science. Edison was all about selling inventions and rights to manufacture devices. He always had an eye on the profit potential. His improvements on the telegraph would found his laboratory he thought, and he expected to sell the device to Western Union for $5,000 to $7,000. Instead of offering it to them at a price, however, he asked Western Union to bid on it. They bid $10,000, which Edison gratefully accepted, along with the lesson that he might do better letting the marketplace establish the price for his inventions. Other inventive labs followed Edison’s example, such as the famous Bell Labs, but few equalled his success, or had as much fun doing it. (Economics teachers: Need an example of the marketplace in action?)
While Edison had some financial weight to invest in the quest for a workable electric light, he also got financial support, $30,000 worth, from some of the finance giants of the day, including J. P. Morgan and the Vanderbilts who established the Edison Light Company.
Edison didn’t invent the light bulb — but his improvements on it made it commercial. “In addressing the question ‘Who invented the incandescent lamp?’ historians Robert Friedel and Paul Israel list 22 inventors of incandescent lamps prior to Joseph Wilson Swan and Thomas Edison. They conclude that Edison’s version was able to outstrip the others because of a combination of three factors: an effective incandescent material, a higher vacuum than others were able to achieve (by use of the Sprengel pump) and a high resistance lamp that made power distribution from a centralized source economically viable.”
Edison’s financial and business leadership acumen is partly attested to by the continuance of his organizations, today — General Electric, one of the world’s most successful companies over the past 40 years, traces its origins to Edison.
Look around yourself this evening, and you can find a score of ways that Edison’s invention and its descendants affect your life. One of the more amusing effects is in cartooning, however. Today a glowing lightbulb is universally accepted as a nonverbal symbol for ideas and inventions. (See Mark Parisi’s series of lightbulb cartoons, “Off the Mark.”)
Even with modern, electricity-saving bulbs, the cartoon shorthand hangs on, as in this Mitra Farmand cartoon.
Brilliant cartoon from Mitra Farmand, Fluffernutter (regrettably, we note this site is no longer there; but with some hope, we find a new site here)
Or see this wonderful animation, a video advertisement for United Airlines, by Joanna Quinn for Fallon — almost every frame has the symbolic lightbulb in it.
Electrification of America, and the consequent spread of electric lighting and electrical machines to make domestic and industrial life more productive, and the spread of great public works to enable these and other inventions to spread, were made possible by a people roughly united in advancing progress, what historians now call “the progressive agenda” and the great advances of the Progressive Era.
Could we get such agreement among workers, corporate bosses and many levels of government today? When we celebrate anniversaries, like the demonstration of the light bulb, we celebrate the united polity that made such things possible, too.
Gee, I wonder who were the dignitaries to whom Edison demonstrated the electric light on that New Years Eve, in 1879. Anyone know? We can safely wager that there were representatives of the Vanderbilts and Morgans there, families who invested in Edison as an inventor.

Wait a minute! What about that lightbulb he demonstrated on October 21? Story here. See the difference?
Oh, yeah — it’s a good enough idea, we can celebrate it often: January 27 is the anniversary of the granting of the patent

April 4, 1841: William Henry Harrison became first President to die in office
William Henry Harrison died on April 4, 1841, 31 days after his inauguration as president of the United States.
Perhaps during the cold and rainy inauguration in which Harrison delivered the longest speech in inauguration history, perhaps from a well-wisher, Harrison caught a cold. The cold developed into pneumonia. Perhaps the pneumonia killed him.
Or, perhaps he caught typhoid fever from the notoriously bad water at the White House in 1841. Modern historians and medical specialists suspect Harrison had some form of typhoid, and not pneumonia from a cold. It’s likely his physicians at the time did everything just wrong to treat typhoid, much as George Washington’s physicians probably killed him 42 years earlier.
Caption from Smithsonian: William Henry Harrison / Albert Gallatin Hoit / Oil on canvas, 1840 / National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution
Any way it went down, Vice President John Tyler succeeded to fill 47 months of Harrison’s 48-month term.
Harrison, a Whig, was the first president to die in office. His vice president, John Tyler, was a converted Democrat who quickly abandoned the Whig platform as president.
Harrison won fame pushing Indians off of lands coveted by white settlers in the Northwest Territories. Harrison defeated Tecumseh’s Shawnee tribe (without Tecumseh) at the Battle of Tippecanoe, then beat Tecumseh in a battle with the English in which Tecumseh died, in the War of 1812.
Schoolchildren of my era learned Harrison’s election slogan: “Tippecanoe, and Tyler, too!” Schoolchildren should learn that slogan today, too, as a touchstone to 19th century history and presidential politics. Some say it was the first slogan used by a candidate for president. See Mo Rocca’s piece for CBS Sunday Morning.
On Harrison’s death, Tyler found himself in uncharted territories. While the Constitution and the title suggested a vice president would fill in for a president when the president was absent, the Constitution did not explicitly say the vice president would succeed to the presidency if the president should die. There was some controversy at the time, about whether Tyler should act as caretaker until a new, special election was called.
Tyler took the oath of office as president, effectively putting the controversy to bed. No one sued to stop him. Tyler established the precedent of peaceful and quick transition of power to the vice president, upon the death of a president
Congress voted Harrison’s widow a one-time payment of $25,000, since he had died nearly penniless. This may be the first example of a president or his survivors getting a payment from the government after leaving office. It’s a precedent Congress didn’t quite follow through on, and presidents left office without pensions for many more years, a story told with pain about the later years and death of President U. S. Grant.
In the annals of brief presidencies, there is likely to be none shorter than Harrison’s for a long time. As you toast him today, you can honestly say he did not overstay his White House tenure. Others could have learned from his example.
No president had died in office before; all the pomp and ceremony for a president’s funeral had to be invented when William Henry Harrison died, just 31 days into his administration. Proper music included a funeral dirge composed by Henry Dielman, cover shown here from the collection of the White House Historical Association.

Harrison was one of four Whig Party presidents. Amazingly, high school kids today don’t know what the Whig Party stood for. Of course, neither does anyone else remember it, save for three or four trivia-whiz political science professors. Actually, only two Whigs were ever elected, William Henry Harrison and Zachary Taylor. Both died in office; the other two Whigs who became president were their vice presidents, John Tyler succeeding Harrison, and Millard Fillmore succeeding Taylor. Four Whigs held the presidency for a total of eight years.
