on the status of this blog / event: 2016 edition

First off, thanks again to those who participated in the 2015 event!! 😄 It (literally) couldn’t have happened without y’all.

As for the status of this blog:

If anyone wishes to take the reigns of a potential Legend of Korra Big Bang 2016, feel free to hit me up @ghostcatchers. The only requirements are that you are pretty much every ship friendly (besides abusive / pedophiliac ones which are a total no-go for this sort of event). That definitely means you’d have to be cool with Makorra and Korrasami, or at least getting entries / art about both.

If no one does wish to take over as admin and do this thing this year, this blog shall continue to stay silent. 😶

Hello everyone! As some of you may or may not have known, I have recently participated in the Legend of Korra Big Bang to celebrate the anniversary of the finale of Legend of Korra. For my (our) entry, I am using the first part of the third installment to the Elements Series: The Arts. Due to the posting schedule of History: Part II, its predecessor, this will simply be a preview of the first chapter of The Arts until I can post what was giving away spoilers for History: Part II.

I would like to thank the good people running the @lokbigbang for putting up with me and my incomplete life as a graduate student, and for @dinopwnt for being such an amazing artist. Their art is just perfect for this first part of The Arts and it was incredible working with them. I highly recommend their work and am so glad that this piece came out the way it did.

Life, Death, and Unsettled.

Summary: Spoilers for season 3 and beyond of Avatar.

Things Go Wrong. Heroes become villains. Someone’s true love becomes the only person who can defeat them. And sometimes a clown is the only one who can save the day. 

When Korra loses her mind, twisted into anger and hatred by mercury poisoning, she turns on her friends, joining the Red Lotus. Bolin finds that his nearly unique abilities make him the only one who has a real chance at being able to stop her. The rest of the team is forced to scramble to limit the damage, while Bolin tries to come to terms with the idea that being the hero he’s always wanted to be might mean killing someone he cares about deeply.

Asami Sato is an engineer, which means that she is a logical, practical person in the whole extent of the word. But what happens when she faces a dilemma she has no idea how to deal with?

As Korra’s partner, Asami questions her place by her side because she isn’t one of the most spiritual persons. In fact, she thinks she is not spiritual at all. Asami gets frustrated by this fact and lets her fear of losing Korra fuel her insecurities, but that won’t stop her from trying to do what she thinks is right for both of them.

An Asami-centric story with a happy ending, promise.

Summary: Asami Sato is a bored, semi-retired grifter who’s all too glad to get back into it when Kuvira shows up one day with an offer she can’t refuse: Opal Beifong is back in town and she needs a crew to pull off the heist of the century. Hot on their heels are rookie cop Bolin and newly-promoted Lieutenant Korra of the RCPD.

As each side attempts to outwit each other, they’re left to navigate a tangled web of dysfunctional family ties, deceit, betrayal and bad Pai Sho analogies.

Hi, I had drop out just before rough drafts were due, but I'm holding on to both my stories (a Mini and Big Bang) incase there is a LoK Big Bang next year. Will there be a LoK Big Bang next year?

tbh that’s just up in the air right now. I’m (aka “Head Admin”, aka @ghostcatchers) going to start looking for a full time job early next year, so upon getting one, I certainly won’t be able to commit to heading something like this up. (Which is why I did this thing this year, partly. Not in school anymore [well, not in “formal schooling;” I’m an apprentice-like-person right now], not at a full-time job yet. So that left room to do this.)

If anyone else wants to take up as head admin and try to run this with some help next year, they’re free to do so. I’d just have some requests that’d need to be met, like at least giving three-five months post this Big Bang to open up the next one (so they’re not too close together for an annual thing). Also, there’d have to be enough interest, a graphics person, etc. But I’d be willing to hand the lokbigbangadmin LJ account over to someone if they were willing to take over and commit to following through.

They’d also need to be chill with all ships, barring the obvious ones we don’t allow (i.e., if they involve pedophilia, incest, abuse, etc.). This would need to continue as a “hate free” thing, a good “neutral” zone for everyone to participate in, no matter what they ship, what character they love, whatever.

So, yeah. Hope that answers your question, at least to the best of my ability. I’m fine with this continuing next year if there’s enough interest, but I won’t be able to commit to being head admin again.

REMINDER: Artist claims are STILL open!

We have two remaining authors who need their fic claimed! If you’re already paired up, you can take a look at what’s remaining and claim again if you want. 

Don’t take a fic if you aren’t at all into the premise/pairing, though! That would just be poop all around. This is why I’m also posting this into the Makorra and Linzin tags, just in case. If you see this in your Makorra / Linzin ship tag (is that still... possible? idk w/Tumblr, guessing still true-ish, though), you can sign-up as an artist and claim within the fic claims post.
