The last thing Sirius expected to hear that morning was that his best friend was going to be a father. In this case, James should have gone right to the point - not 30 minutes later.

Announcement: flowers - A Jily Musicians AU
Tumblr media
Next Sunday, I will post the first chapter of my 10-part Jily Musicians AU called flowers with regular updates every Sunday, starting on Sunday 26 March (the day before our boy James' Birthday) until Sunday 28 May. I'm so excited to share this story with you and hope you'll enjoy it as much as I enjoy(ed) writing it.
Singer-songwriter Lily Evans has played gig after gig, has been the opening act to many a headliner, but her big break seems a million miles away. When one night – after playing in her friend Marlene McKinnon’s bar – she receives messily scrawled lyrics on a napkin by a certain Monty Python, her life and career are turned upside down, leading her all the way to the Grammy's.

Favorite Fic:
It’s a tie between TRN and TRBTY.
This line is probably the most loved line in your fics. “You know exactly how gorgeous you look right now, Evans, and I am but a mortal man.” Gah! Perfect.
Although I can sort of generally guess what James was thinking in the club and in Lily’s apartment during that scene I would LOVE to have his POV. Just what he was thinking when he knew Lily was single and looking beautiful. And what he was thinking in Lily’s apartment after walking her home.
wellll... I suppose it would go a little something like this...
"So Evans is single now."
The pair are leaning against the edge of their seldom-used table, drinking as they watch the dance floor. James uses Sirius' words as the excuse he doesn't need to find Lily there, wrapped up with Marlene as they dance.
"What do you reckon happened there?" James asks, pretending the answer is of no importance to him.
"Maybe Prewett proposed. I heard that's a good way to cause a break up."
James snorts into his drink and his friend immediately grins victoriously.
"Hey that's something, you laughing about your breakup. Has to count as progress at least."
"I'm fine, Pads."
"If you were fine you'd have fucked someone else by now."
James forces his eyes from Lily. "I don't need a one night stand to get over Annie"
"I disagree—"
"I know."
"—but even so, what's the harm in it?" A moment passes where neither say anything; if Sirius is waiting for a reply, James knows he'll be waiting for a while. "Bet Evans would go for it."
James whips his head around so fast that his neck cracks. "Not going to happen."
Sirius sighs in mock defeat. "Well will you at least finally admit you don't hate the idea?"
Hate the idea? Hate it? Fuck. He hasn't hated an idea less. Especially not now, when his gaze finds Lily's across the crowded club. Her hair is swinging through the air as she moves; when she laughs, her nose scrunches as her eyes close. He's always been attracted to her, from the moment he first saw her—although then he would not allow himself to acknowledge how beautiful she truly was out of respect for Annie.
That ship, along with the respect attached to it, has long sailed. And with it has gone any pretense that he isn't absolutely mad about Lily.
But that doesn't mean she feels the same.
"Prongs?"
He blinks himself back into reality, turning away from the dance floor now so his eyes don't stray where they oughtn't.
"We've discussed this plenty. Yes I find her fit." (Understatement of the bloody year, that. Her arse in that dress is already burned into his memory.) "And no, I'm not going to do anything about it."
If Sirius were to press the issue further, James would have plenty of reasons to tell him, like cards tucked up his sleeve ready to be played at a moment's notice.
I wouldn't want to upset the friends group.
She just got out of a relationship like a minute ago.
We don't seem compatible that way and I don't want to risk our friendship.
I don't want us to be each other's rebound flings.
I could find someone else.
And in some way or another, all of these reasons are true. But the reason most paramount of all: One night with her would not be enough.

The Art of Brewing
@jilymicrofics using the February prompts Love and Embrace. On Ao3 (Love Potions are involved)
James Potter had always thought of himself as a pretty lucky bloke, but as he tried to keep Lily Evans, the love of his life, away from him he realized all the luck he’d been blessed with since birth was probably starting to run out.
“Jamse- Jimsy-” Lily said before dissolving in a fit of giggles and leaning heavily on him. It was torture because even dosed on one experimental potion she’d brewed for who knew what reason she was still adorable.
“Yes, Evans?”
“I drank a love potion.” She whispered, her eyes wide and earnest and James felt awful.
“Yeah, I figured.” He looked around as he tried to keep her from embracing him. “Do you think you could go up to your dormitory?”
“But I love you.”
“Errr, that’s great.”
“The way you touch your hair really turns me on.” James chocked at that. He was never, ever going to be able to get that out of his head and he froze when she gently run her fingers through his curls, biting her lip. Lily Evans was going to be the death of him. That wasn’t a completely unfamiliar thought, but he’d assumed she would end him with a quick hex, not by looking both innocent and hauntingly sexy. He ducked as she leaned towards him and sighed with relief as he heard someone coming down from the girls’ staircase.
“There you are, Lily!” Mary exclaimed, frowning as she took in the scene.
“Please, take her.” James said with a hint of desperation and gently pushed Lily towards Mary.
“Mary, I need you to know you are my best friends in the entire world.”
“Oh, thank you, Lily.” Mary said, looking as if she was trying not to laugh. “Goodnight, James.”
James waved weakly at them, Lily’s sweet smile as she looked back at him making him feel weak in the knees.
“What’s wrong with you?” Sirius asked as they got ready for bed and James realized he’d been trying to get his leg through a sleeve of his shirt.
“Evans drank a love potion.”
“Really?”
“Oi! That’s not funny! She wasn’t herself, she was all-” Sirius raised his eyebrows and James sighed and dropped heavily on his bed. “She told me she loved me, alright? Stop laughing, Padfoot!”
“I’m sorry.” Sirius said, shaking his head. “This is amazing.”
“Oh, I’m happy you find my pain amusing!”
“What is going on?” Remus said, walking into the dorm with Peter right behind him.
“Prongs thinks Evans took a love potion.”
“I don’t think it, I know it.” James said stubbornly and Remus looked briefly at the two of them, his eyebrows knitted in confusion.
“Lily didn’t drink a love potion. The girls slipped her a bit of a batch of Veritaserum she had brewed, but it’s too strong, she can’t stop herself from telling the truth, even if no one asks her anything.”
“WHAT?!”

@jilymicrofics - January 2023
Prompt no.30: Birthday (ao3)
30th January, 1972
“Hey, Evans! Is it your birthday today?”
Lily turned around to find James Potter standing in front of the Transfiguration Classroom. Severus, who stood beside her, made a noise of contempt on seeing who had interrupted them.
“Yes,” Lily replied, frowning.
“Well, Happy birthday!” Potter shouted.
“Thanks, Potter,” Lily replied and watched as he walked away with his small band of hooligans.
30th January, 1973
Lily was on her way back to the Great Hall when she collided head first with James Potter. His mates ran past them quickly but James stood looking at her.
“It’s your birthday today, isn’t it?” he asked, bouncing on the balls of his feet.
Lily blinked. “Yeah.”
“There you are, you insolent little blighter! ”
Both of them whipped their heads around to see a furious Mr. Filch at the end of the long corridor, running towards them.
“Happy birthday, Evans,” Potter grinned before dashing after his friends.
30th January, 1974
Lily entered the Great Hall with an empty stomach but good spirits after a long day. She spotted her group of friends in the far end of the table; she walked towards them when James Potter called her name.
“Hey, Evans, wait!”
Lily turned around and saw Potter smiling at her as he approached her, hands behind his back.
“What?”
“Here,” he said as he stood in front of her, “Happy birthday!” He took his hands from behind his back and presented Lily with a bouquet of roses, beaming brightly as he did so.
Lily felt herself blush as she took the bouquet. “I- they’re beautiful,” Lily stuttered. “Thank you-”
Right at that moment, the bouquet exploded in a puff of smoke, covering them in a foul smell. Through the smoke she saw Potter laughing loudly, soon joined by his friends.
“Go to hell, Potter,” she snapped, stalking away.
30th January, 1975
Lily placed her bowtruckle drawing in the pile inside the carton that Professor Kettleburn had kept aside and turned around, finding herself face to face with James Potter.
“That’s a neat drawing,” James Potter said, enthusiastically.
Lily gave him a polite nod. “Thanks, Potter.”
“You’re welcome!” he said and stood there beaming at her.
Lily looked around before asking, “Are you going to let me go, or…”
“Oh, sorry!” James said and he stepped back a few feet. Lily started to walk towards the edge of the forest when he shouted, drawing the whole class’s attention; “Happy birthday, Evans!”
Lily ducked her head as she felt her face heat up, mouthing ‘shh!’ at him.
30th January, 1976
After parting ways with her partner for the night, Lily made her way back to the portrait hole, finishing her prefect rounds. She turned a corner and saw the retreating back of a guy, strutting casually through the moonlight.
“Hey! What are you doing out now?”
The guy flinched as he heard her voice and turned around. “Uh, getting back from Quidditch practice?”
“Potter?” Lily frowned, walking towards him. “Are you telling the truth?”
“Cross my heart,” he said, placing a hand over his chest. Once Lily caught up with him, he resumed walking, hands in his pockets, broomstick strapped to his back. They walked in silence until he spoke again.
“Are you alright, Evans? You look a bit… tired.”
Lily raised her eyebrows in surprise. “Oh, it’s nothing,” she said. “It’s all the stress of the OWLs classes and the prefect duties getting to my head.”
“Well, I can manage being Quidditch captain and the OWLs just fine,” Potter said. When she glared at him, he laughed. “I’m joking, I’m joking!”
“Just… stop. I have had an awful day already, and I don’t want to hear about your academic competencies,” she sighed. Potter seemed to listen to her for once and kept his mouth shut. It was completely silent for a while except for their footsteps and the fire crackling in the brackets. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks.
“Oh.”
Lily turned around cautiously. “What?” Potter was looking at her strangely.
“It’s your birthday.”
Lily blinked. “Yeah, it is,” she nodded.
“Well,” he continued, shuffling awkwardly on the spot. “Happy birthday.”
“Thanks,” Lily muttered and resumed walking.
“Why were you having a bad time on your birthday?” Potter jogged up to her. “What happened?”
“That’s none of your business.”
30th January, 1977
Lily was laughing at something Mary said when she heard someone walking up to her.
"Lily?"
"Oh, hey, James," Lily replied, turning around to face him. He was almost a head taller than her, and she looked up at his face to find that he was looking at her expectantly.
"I have-" James cleared his throat and started again. "I have something for you, here." Lily didn't notice he kept his hands behind his back until he pulled them around, holding a roughly arranged bunch of wild roses.
He took a quick breath through his mouth and handed them to her. "Happy birthday, Lily."
Lily narrowed her eyes at him. "Did you really think I'll fall for the same joke twice?"
"No!" James added urgently. "No, this is not a joke, it's - it's real."
"Oh," Lily said, accepting the roses, feeling heat creeping up her neck.
"Yeah," James spoke again and Lily thought he almost looked nervous. "I got them from the forest." He ran his hand through his hair, not meeting her eyes.
"Oh," Lily repeated. "You've been running around the forest?"
"Well, that's -" He looked up at her face before averting his eyes again. "Yeah, but that's not a- nevermind about that.."
"They're beautiful," Lily said and James stopped fidgeting and looked at her. "Thank you, James." She gave him a shy smile.
James mirrored her expression, putting his hands inside his pockets. "You're welcome." He gave her a nervous smile.
Lily twisted one of the roses' stems as they stood in silence for a moment. Then James coughed. “I’ll see you around, then,” he said and walked away, turning around the corridor.
30th January, 1978
Lily felt a pair of arms wrap around her waist from behind, right when she got down from her dorm.
She laughed, “Hello, James.”
James rested his chin on top of her head. “Hello, Lils,” he said, and Lily heard the trace of a smile in his voice. Lily turned around and twisted her arms through his, looking up into his eyes.
“You look a bit different today,” James mused out loud.
“I do?”
“Yeah…”
“What is it?” Lily asked curiously.
James narrowed his eyes in thought. “I think you look a little bit old today.”
“You prat,” Lily pinched his arms, but couldn’t stop the smile from taking over her face. James pulled her close and kissed her slowly.
“Happy birthday, Lily.”

Jilytober prompt 24: Casually talking about their future (together).
Thank you for the prompts, @jilytoberfest!
It's the first Hogsmeade trip of their last term, and the group of rowdy Gryffindors are set up in the front corner of The Three Broomsticks, still bundled tightly in their robes on account of the continuous cold blasts they receive every time the door is opened.
Lily's shaking her head obstinately, taking a sip of the warm tankard of butterbeer before her, eyes narrowed at her boyfriend next to her.
"Lily, this isn't a right or wrong answer, it's an opinion," James is pleading.
"Then just admit your opinion is wrong and we can move on." Her tone is sweet and she shrugs, as if the matter is simple. The rest of their friends' eyes flit from her to James, eager to see if he'll acquiesce and they can go along with their day.
James sits up a little taller, an indignant frown staking claim to his brow, which causes Sirius to sigh exasperatedly and sit back in his chair.
"No."
"No?"
"No."
“No...” She drags out the single syllable, her voice carrying some awe, some disbelief. She leans away from the arm draped around her and considers him, the silence lingering as neither dare to speak.
It's Dorcas who finally breaks the silence.
"God, your kids will be insufferable."
The table breaks into laughter, Peter patting the brave girl on the shoulder, Remus choking a little on his drink. James is laughing nervously next to her, and Lily feels a blush heating her cheeks. Still, she looks at James and considers the words.
"I don't think so," she muses. "I think they'll be stubborn, sure. But they'll know how to pick their battles."
James' is stock-still next to her, shocked by her candid, thought-out response. His eyes are locked on hers, and there's a twinkle there that makes her stomach flip. Blinking away some of the shock, a dumbstruck smile slides its way onto his face.
"Yeah?"
"Mhm."
The aura of the table has changed. James quickly ducks his head down and captures Lily's lips with his own. He pulls back and grins, and Lily can't help but to lean in again. Their friends groan, and she hears chair legs scraping against the floor.
"Not this again!"
"I liked it better when they were fighting!"

The Golden Globes Incident
@victoria8719 asked me to do this jily fic yesterday after seeing the Andrew Garfield interview at the Golden Globes. Naturally, I started writing it the second she asked. Read on A03
“I heard Lily Evans is going to be here.” Peter, James’ cameraman, said sneakily as he set up his tripod, “you going to act like an idiot again?”
“James always acts like an idiot when Lily Evans is around.” Marlene, James’ producer, said with a tinge of annoyance, “and the reason I am here and not in the studio.”
James shot his producer a sheepish grin, “you act as if you have better things to do with your time.”
Marlene waved the cards in her hands at James, “I brought cue cards, in the hopes I can keep you on topic around the woman, although after the last interview I highly doubt it.”
“I can be professional.” James argued as he straightened his bow tie, “she’s the one who got me off topic last time.”
“You guys spent twenty minutes comparing cows to cats,” Marlene deadpanned, “forgive me for lacking faith in you.”
“We don’t even know if she’s truly going to be available for interview.” James reminded them, “or if she’s even here.”
The screams from the fans across the road announced her presence first. People begging for her to look their way, to come over, and to acknowledge their existence. James would honestly do the same for her attention, had done so, back when he was nothing but a footballer and she was a child star trying to live a normal life. Going to American high school and being two of the three brits on site had placed them both in similar crowds, but nothing had ever come of them but friendship.
But this wasn’t high school, and now they were basically strangers, acquaintances at best. James had done his football thing, retired early due to a poor shoulder, and became an entertainment host for ABC. Lily had propelled from her childhood sitcom on Disney into an impressive acting career that had landed her at the Golden Globes that night. They saw each other around, mostly at these events, but every time he was reminded just how much he missed seeing her every day in high school.
Then she appeared and James felt as if his breath left his lungs at the sight of her.
There she was, walking over to him with the biggest grin plastered on her face. Lily Evans’ cheeks were shining with glitter painted on like freckles, and her green eyes were shadowed with golden dust. She wore a stunning dress that made her pale skin look tanner than usual, or she’d just gotten back from an ocean-based vacation.
God, she was just beautiful.
She wasn’t going to come over to him though, no, the last time they’d seen each other had probably scared her off for good. He turned towards the cameraman, pretending to be interested in a nonexistent conversation. He tried to look nonchalant. He didn’t dare look at her until after he was sure she’d passed by. He couldn’t take rejection, not from her.
“James.”
Lily was standing directly beside him and hadn’t passed him by. James turned halfway and looked at her. She stood eye to eye with him since she wore heels. She was even more goddess like up close and personal. James looked back at his coworkers for confirmation that he could start an interview with her. Even though he never managed to talk to her normally, in any situation.
Peter nodded at him, and Marlene made a motion with her hand that meant the camera was rolling and they wanted him to interview her. Right, James had to do his job.
Lily, however, gave an awkward wave to the camera and turned her back to the camera. James touched her shoulder with the microphone, and she cackled, turning back to face him, and allowing the camera to angle down her body for dress shots.
“Looking lovely.” His voice cracked like a twelve-year-old boy, bloody hell.
“Oh, you are interested in talking to me?” She pestered him.
“Of course.”
“I just saw this…” Lily gave an imitation awkward smile and turned away from James, pretending to be him five seconds ago when he’d seen her coming and hadn’t known whether to run away or die on the spot.
“No, I didn’t do that!” He sniggered off his awkwardness, she always gets him laughing when she’s around.
“You did!” Lily pressed a fresh manicured hand to her red tainted mouth, “you’re like a capybara in the wild”
“No!” He felt like he wanted the red carpet to swallow him up now that he knew she’d seen how awkward he had been at the sight of her. “I was smiling!”
“Good.” Lily brushed a strand of her auburn hair back, “I thought you were going to pretend you didn’t know me.”
“I was smiling! I was like…” his smile was strained because he was aware of everyone within fifteen feet watching them. “Happy to see you!”
“It was not! It was this…”  Lily did a perfect imitation of James’ side eye. He had to laugh at that, because she looked preposterous, which meant he’d been even more stupid looking.
“No, I was happy!” He cried, touching her shoulder, and forcing her to bring her eyes from her feet to his face.
There was a playful fire in her eyes that made his stomach twist into knots as they stared each other down. It was if she were daring him to give in and make a move, declaring her mutual attraction. James tilted the corners of his mouth into a quizzical expression as she stuffed her hands into the folds of her gown.
“Can we start over?” Lily and James both looked over to the camera man and his producer, who currently had her arms crossed and had interrupted their little reunion. “This isn’t usable material.”
“Right,” James cleared his throat and then pointed the microphone at the actress. “Professional.”
Lily bent down so her mouth pressed into his microphone with a sly little, “hi.”
He couldn’t resist matching her smile with one of his own smoldering grins as he brought the microphone back to his lips to respond to her just a coyly. “Hi.”
The sparks flying between them were undeniable. She looked beyond happy to be standing in his shadow. There were no words in the English language that could describe how he was looking at her, at least none he could remember.
He started to ask a question, but Lily bent back, face ecstatic and she winked at him as she said, “Fancy seeing you here.”
Her red hair was also dusted with gold, making her look as if she were hand painted by an artist. James would love for one afternoon to sit and paint the way her smile lifted her cheeks. He’d love to sketch every feature to perfection. He’d taste her skin with his—nope wrong time to think about that.
The last time they had run into each other had also been an awards show. He’d complimented her cat, asked her if she liked pizza, and made some off-the-wall comment about her leg hair. This time, for the golden globes, he ought to be more refined. There was something about Lily Evans that brought out his worst and best parts. The last time they’d met, he hadn’t gotten even a reel of good footage to use. It had all been banter and wit.
That’s what led James to start with a polite, mildly flirtatious, “we must stop meeting like this.”
Lily snorted, brushing off his claim with a wave of her hand, “I only ever want to see you.”
His voice dropped an octave. “What?”
He cannot comprehend what Lily just said out loud, thankfully he could rewind the tape a million times when he got back to the studio. Meanwhile, Lily was still talking like a mile a minute.
“At an, on like a—“ And then Lily saw James’ shocked expression and she quickly covered his hand on the mic. James felt like he might feint as he was now holding her bloody hand. “No, that’s not the end of—“
“What?” James asked again, tugging her up and closer to him.
Lily paused, as if mesmerized by him, before shaking herself from her stupor and adding quickly, “—the sentence! That’s not the end of my sentence!”
James licked his lips, “Care to clarify?”
“I only ever want to see you in this kind of sort of situations.” She seemed to wince, but James didn’t know if his eyes were able to do anything beyond gape at her, let alone deduce her actions fairly.  “I mean, I like to see you in these situations.”
“What about other situations?” He asked boldly, or stupidly,
“Not--” Lily’s face was tomato red as she glanced at her publicist who nodded thoroughly at her for whatever answer she was about to give. James arched a brow. So, Lily was being babysat that night. He wondered if it was due to him, and the last viral interview they’d had. Lily turned her eyes back on James and said without an ounce of truth, “not interested.”
James clicked his tongue with feigned disappointment. “I was gonna invite you to my birthday party!”
Lily’s publicist hit herself with her notepad when Lily grabbed James’ elbow and inhaled, “wait, when’s your birthday party?”
“March.” James said, “all our friends will be there.”
“We have mutual friends?” Lily giggled, fucking giggled, in his direction.
She was flirting.
She was flirting so much that everyone watching was picturing what he might say next.
“Oh loads.” James lied. “We miss each other on all the big outings.”
“Well then I should invite you to my birthday.” Lily said, “how rude of me!”
“What astrological sign are you?” James asked, seeing Marlene throw her que cards on the ground in frustration as he once again pulled the interview into a mad direction.
“I’m an Aquarius,” she said, “and yours is Aries.”
“How’d you…” he cut himself off and glanced over his shoulder at the camera crew literally gaping at them, speechless. He would hate himself forever if he didn’t be wholly honest with her now. Screw Marlene and her cue cards. “Did you know that if you have a sun, that’s the same as the sun sign of someone else…”
Lily grew worried by how serious he had become, “is it not good?”
“Nah,” he leaned into her space again, feeling quite courageous. “it’s good.”
They were compatible without all the astrological signals. Hell, he had been attracted to Lily from the first second he saw her walking the hallways of their old school. Everyone had known he’d had a crush on her, everyone but Lily. He had been determined to take her out, but it had always been the right girl at the wrong time. He hoped the timing was finally right.
“Oh, so it’s good that we share a sun or a moon?” She rocked in her heels, “well that’s interesting.”
“Why?” He stepped into her with a cool smirk, his knees brushing the edges of her puffy gown. “Is that an issue?”
“Well because, I don’t…I don’t think we should explore this.” She said faintly, but her eyes weren’t leaving his, almost like she was begging him to just kiss her already.
“Okay, well, I’m not even asking to explore it.” He resisted the urge to tuck her red hair behind her ear as it tickled her sparkling cheek.
“I know, but I’m just like really kind of…” Lily’s voice trailed off as looked at James like she wanted to push him against the nearest wall and find out just how compatible they could be.
He wouldn’t argue, and told her as much with a clever arch of his brow and a seducing brush of his teeth on his lower lip.
“Okay,” Marlene, his producer, retorted boisterously from beside the camera, “we need to do an actual interview you two!”
Lily pretended to not look flustered as she stepped back from James a bit. “Whoops, sorry, he’s just so into me.”
“I’m sorry,” James tried not to flush red and he casually brushed Lily’s wrist with two fingers. “You’re the one who’s obsessed with me.”
“That’s what I’m saying!” She said, motioning at all of him like he hadn’t been joking with her. “I’m scared of what it could turn into.”
Holy shit.
Was she being serious?
Was she being serious and not joking right now?
James’ heart was beating a mile a minute.
“Ugh, okay.” James scratched his head, unsure of what to say because Lily Evans was having a crisis on camera in front of him, about him.
“And I’m not ready for that kinda thing.” She seemed to be talking more to herself than to anyone else. “it’s not you, I just am not ready to really dig into that, right?”
“It would be too much,” he deduced, offering her an out that he didn’t really want to give.
“I’m not ready for it.” Lily confirmed, but she confirmed it a little too hastily as she glanced at her publicist who gave her a thumbs up.
Something was keeping her from bluntly asking him out, and that something was her publicist. James wondered if they had some other plan for her romantic life, a marketing relationship to get her more screen time. James doubted Lily wanted that because she acted like she wanted him instead.
“Oh okay,” James placed his hand on his chest, “well, I am ready whenever you are.”
“Wait.” Lily froze in place, her eyes widening with astonishment at his admittance. “Fuck.”
James realized he had thrown her off and quickly tried to backtrack. “You’re nominated tonight, congratulations.”
“Thank you very much.” Lily still looked like she was sweating, she kept glancing at her publicist who seemed at a loss for words or advice for her client.
James couldn’t remember the questions he had prepared. He felt like a dunce standing in front of her. He willed his brain to come up with something. “You have, I feel like you have an affinity to playing religious characters.”
“Are you serious?” Lily’s face cooled down as she cracked another tickled smile. “That’s what you want to talk about? Really?”
“Yeah.”
“Are you going to ask a serious question?” she argued, “this sounds like you pulled it out of your arse because you forgot what you were really going to ask me.”
James shrugged, “I mean if you don’t want me to interview you—”
Lily took a deep breath in through her nose and then let it out. “You aren’t going to ask any serious questions?”
“Fresh out, sadly.” He admitted, winking at her.
“I knew you would do this!” She hit him with her little Prada bag.
“Ouch,” James gripped his arm dramatically making Lily roll her eyes.
“It’s a good thing you didn’t try acting after football.” She baited him, loving the banter just as much as he did.
James glared down at her, “I’ll have you know, I’m an excellent actor.”
“Hey! Focus!” The producer called to them both. “Please for the love of God, focus!”
“Sorry Marley,” James shot his producer a grin, “old friends—you know the deal.”
“No I don’t know,” Marlene snarled, “but I do know this isn’t an interview!”
Lily grinned sheepishly at James when he looked back at her for confirmation that they were both being yelled at, “No. Go on then. Let’s see what we can do. Let’s see if we can do it.”
Was she talking about them?
Or the bloody question he still hasn’t made up?
“You seem to have an affinity…” he bit his lip, and she let lose a bubble of laughter, “to playing…”
Just then a man, an actor, in a black tux ruined any semblance of an attempt at a normal conversation. He pushed between James and Lily, and the camera, cutting them both off from the camera pointed in their direction. His bodyguard followed him, also blocking the camera.
James’ face fell. “Oh sorry.” He shouted after them sarcastically, “just in the middle of an interview here!”
Lily noticed James’ frustration and started yelling after their retreating backs too. “Yeah, go ahead. Cut in front you fucking bastards!” Then Lily looked at James warily. “Wait, are we live?”
“Kind of?” James said, having to kneel over because he was laughing so hard at her ‘fucking bastards’ comment. “Holy shit you’re hilarious Evans.”
Lily stared laughing too, and they leaned into each other as they cracked up over the situation they had found themselves in.
“Please ask your fucking question.” Lily said while still laughing, wiping her eye, removing some of the glitter from under her eye. “Before we’re rudely interrupted again.”
“You have an affinity for playing religious characters.” James continued, slowing down his breath as his laughter died. “I feel like you’re always playing a religious woman in some way.”
Lily put a hand on her hip and tilted it right. “That’s not a question,”
“Oh yeah, sorry.” He adjusted his glasses on his nose and then very cheekily added, “Why?”
Lily burst into laughter again and walked back a few steps, holding her face as her shoulders shook. The producer, the camera man, and Lily’s handler were all shouting at them now. James knew they were on borrowed time, and about to be separated for their nutty antics on the carpet.
“Wait, we can do this,” James motioned for Lily to come back over, “tell me your favorite food.”
Lily broke down with laughter again, doubling over in front of the camera this time. Her dress shook, looking like a waterfall as it vibrated against her skin. James brushed his fingers through his hair, chuckling, as she placed her lips near the mic, he was still holding it out between them.
“I’ll tell you my least favorite food.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes,” She started listed several foods.
James glanced over her shoulder when Sirius Black did bunny ears behind Lily without her noticing. Unfortunately, James didn’t look back at her quickly enough because she caught his interest moved elsewhere.
“You just looked over my shoulder. Is it someone more important?” Lily glanced back and spotted Sirius bounding away like a troublesome toddler. “Ah, yes, my costar.”
“Yeah, Sirius Black.” James joked, “can we like wrap this up because I need to speak to him about your terrible interview skills.”
Lily pretended to talk into a mic attached to her ear, “SB is coming in. I better bounce.”
James said speedily, “can I get your autograph before you go?”
“Wait this feels like a trap.” Lily said as he took a pen and paper from his pocket, balancing the mic on the crook of his elbow. ”Is this a trap?”
“No.” James said, “not a trap, just sign it.”
“I’m not going to read what it says.” She dipped the ink against the page and started writing with great big curly letters.
“It says…”
“I’m not reading it.” She repeated, handing the paper and pen back to James, “I won’t.”
“Okay.” He shrugged, “but full disclosure, it’s a best friend’s certificate.”
“Well then call me later bestie,” she winked as she was walked away, or rather, was pushed away by her exasperated publicist. “Bye James.”
James glanced down at the paper.
She had signed it with two hearts.
And her cell phone number.

Maybe a weird ask but how much do you think people gossip about Ginny and Harry in hbp, because both of them are so popular around the school?
What do you think they would be saying?
not a weird ask!! i think pre-relationship harry was talked about quite a lot with everything surrounding the chosen one rumors, and let's be honest, you know girls were giggling about him in the loo between classes too. probably much of the same conversation that we have now (lol)... is harry's anti-social behavior intriguing or a turn off? is his bed head hot or cringe? is the fact that he is seen at least twice a year running through the halls covered in blood mysterious or downright frightening?
ginny was probably a hot topic of conversation what with her new relationship with dean and then its subsequent implosion. i do wonder if there was much talk about their break-up or if everyone just knew it was a long time coming... were the other 5th-7th year boys all taking bets on who would be the first person to ask out ginny post-breakup? how many tried and were turned down?
then of course post quidditch cup victory you know the entire school was a buzz in the aftermath of that kiss. i'm sure some people (romilda vane) circulated nasty rumors that harry and ginny had gotten together behind dean's back, while others spied on them in the library and at meal times wondering what on earth harry potter was like in a relationship.
i'm sure everyone found out rather quickly that they were impervious to the chatter. i'm also pretty sure mcgonagall mentioned to professor sprout at breakfast "i don't think i've ever seen potter smile so much." to which sprout replied, "he had such a faraway look in his eye yesterday that the venomous tentacula got him twice."

finally getting into the @jilymicrofics game with this lil (~1k) guy! check out the list here
fireworks - beginning - new
She’d never had champagne before. The bubbles tickled her nose uncomfortably after a hasty first swig. Fortunately none of her friends or housemates seemed to notice her reaction—not that she would necessarily expect them to in their current states.
The Gryffindor common room was surprisingly lively for ten minutes to midnight during the Christmas hols, although not so surprising in that it was New Years’ Eve. Music from someone’s borrowed wireless bounced between the laughter, settling warmly like fire in the hearths. A larger-than-usual number of students had stayed behind this year, including the entirety of the seventh year.
They were all, perhaps, a bit sentimental about their last Christmas at Hogwarts; Lily suspected she was a touch more than the rest.
Somewhere in the back of her mind, in the place where she could never quite turn off the Head Girl Voice (as her friends liked to call it), she was rather pleased with how everyone was conducting themselves. While very few people were completely sober, no one was tripping over themselves drunk. Lily suspected this was to avoid bringing the ire of the Head of House down on their last night of 1977.
Suddenly Lily felt the gentle touch of fingertips on her shoulder and turned around while nearly upending the rest of her drink.
“All right, Evans?” came James Potter’s grinning remark.
His cheeks were rosy, pink like his kissable mouth.
Yes, James Potter had a kissable mouth. It paired well with his touchable hair and heart-skip-inducing eyes. Realizing these things weren’t a recent discovery by any means, her feelings far from new, but it was starting to become a nuisance.
Because James Potter, her fellow Gryffindor, her co-Head and Potions partner, her friend (of all things!), wasn’t interested in her that way. He was at one time, Lily knew, but time was proving again and again that the ship has sailed.
The champagne made it harder to hide her disappointment in this fact.
“All right. Ready to kiss seventy-seven goodbye?”

The most hilarious thing about the fact Buckbeak had a trial and lost is that later on JKR resolves the issue by having Hagrid take him in again and renaming him Witherwings. That’s literally all it took. What if in POA, Hagrid simply said, “Sorry, Buckbeak flew away.”
“There’s a hippogriff right there, Hagrid.”
“A different hipprogriff.”
“I’m… pretty sure that’s the same hipprogriff.”
“Prove it.”

Everything in Lily Evans’ life is going well until the day James Potter appears. He is reckless with his time and stingy with his affection, and the last thing Lily needs is to become attached to someone emotionally unavailable.
So naturally, that’s what she does.
In the process, she learns that the journey to love is not a sprint but a marathon.
