They've Done It Again!
You can’t trust characters. Not one whit. They’ll mess up a plot faster than you can scramble to try to salvage it. This one event was not meant to happen in book six of The Sword’s Edge Chronicles! I had it all planned out! But did my characters care what I intended? Noooooooooooooo! Of course not. They just blithely go on their way, traipsing through all my subplots, trampling and scattering…

June Updates on Books and Author Events
Greetings and Felicitations! Real Life™ has been crazy. I try not to inject personal stuff because, well, you’re here as readers and (hopefully) fans of my writing, but y’know it’s crazy that it’s taken over five decades for doctors to take me seriously about a medical problem, and by this point my attitude is ‘I’m still alive after all these decades and *now* you’re worried?’Pffft. To quote Kurt…

Of All the Times for a Character to Not Cooperate
I am at a point in this scene where the character needs to make a snappy comeback.Unfortunately for me, I’m not as quick-witted, so it may take days or weeks to find the response. My characters aren’t afraid to go out and do their own thing and make me chase after them, so why, right now, is he not flippin’ cooperating? 🙄🤔🧐

Short and Sweet Book Review
A world at a crossroads. A leader with a vision. The portal is closed, but its legacy lives on. OOPS!
I was rereading bits of the previous books in the Sword’s Edge Chronicles to check some details, and I realized I had omitted a snip of conversation about an important topic in Laws and Prophecies, which is a smidge of foretelling. And in the next book, The Reluctant King, another character asks about this snip, and the reply refers to the conversation I inadvertently left out. It’s a tiny…

One of the Mysteries of Being an Author
In Sword’s Edge, there is a character who is a political adversary of one of the protagonists. Not a bad guy, but an antagonist as he feels the protag is misguided, too idealistic, and is not in touch with the realities of their world. When I was writing a certain conversation, I came to the end of the scene and the antag agreed with something the protag said. The protag responded, “Careful,…

A Special Request
I have discovered that my website is completely messed up in some browsers. I’m not sure when it started, but I am aghast. 😱 Please, please, if you have a moment, could you go to my website and see if it looks all right? Just comment if it does or doesn’t and if it’s on mobile, tablet, laptop, or desktop and on which browser or browsers you tried. You have my thanks. loriendil.com 😓

Another Review? Laws and Prophecies Again!
It was just about a month ago that I received a review of Laws and Prophecies from Jimbo, and now I find I’ve received another: Upstream Reviews: Laws and Prophecies. What do you think of either or both reviews? I hope it sparks an interest in the series. But anyway, if this keeps up, I might end up thinking I can actually write! 👍

Characters Taking Over
I have mentioned this at times in writing groups or sessions and to some readers. And I’ve probably shared it on my social media as well. I have one character in The Sword’s Edge Chronicles that swaggered in and introduced himself. Like Tolkien with Faramir (I felt so much better later finding out this happened to him as well), I didn’t plan him, I didn’t want him, but I rather liked him. I…

Sometimes Pantsing Is a Bizarre Experience
My characters have a tendency to do their own thing. I feel more like a reporter running after them, writing down what they’re doing than anything else. They certainly don’t listen to me! I had it all planned who one character was supposed to fall in love with and marry, and this person turned about and picked someone else. Really? Really?!! So that blew a whole plot out of the water. *sigh*

NerdNexus
NerdNexus at Salem Community College, Carneys Point, NJ, is a new con, so attendance wasn’t huge, but wow – the people that showed up were so friendly. I had some nice chats and sold quite a few books (almost out of stock of several). Always a nice thing. Oh, a lovely girl named Nicole who sells amazing glass trinkets and jewelry helped me drag my table in. So sweet of her! I wanted to take…

My First Hero and Sword's Edge Chronicles
Here’s something you already know if you’ve read the acknowledgments in any of my series, The Sword’s Edge Chronicles. My love of capes, swords, and brave deeds all goes back to my first hero: Zorro, created by Johnston McCulley and played to perfection by Guy Williams. 😎

Sword's Edge Chronicles - Clan Ancestry
Today I had to go into Family Tree Maker and dig out familial relationships for some of my characters.I have ~1000 years worth of ancestry recorded for the clan that the main characters belong to. Not that I’m OCD, mind. 😏
