I read a post saying Lorroakan is the laughingstock of every academy and among wizards in general and... WELL !!!
I think this is only partially true.
Do a lot of mages know Lorroakan is a fraud? Sure. But plenty of people still buy into his bs (bb gurl has 16 CHA 💅). Rolan even mentioned he’d admired Lorroakan for years. Which is interesting — because Lorroakan hasn’t actually been Master of Ramazith’s Tower for that long. So either that’s a plot hole, or he was already pulling strings and building his reputation BEFORE he ever bought the tower. Makes sense.
Even Balthazar apparently thought he might be a worthwhile ally — he told Ketheric to respond to the letter Lorroakan sent inquiring about the Nightsong (even though Ketheric wanted to leave him on read lol).
Additionally, as for how he got his tower that stood empty for decades after Ramazith disappeared... I’ve got thoughts. Because some people seem to think he just marched in and shouted "dibs".
Honestly, I don’t think that was the case, because it’s mentioned that Lorroakan purchased it.
I don’t think you could just waltz in there if you felt like it, otherwise that would’ve happened decades ago. After Ramazith vanished, the tower probably ended up in the hands of the Counting House or the city, and considering its value, they would’ve made sure it was guarded or protected from being looted. No way that place stayed untouched unless it had some serious safeguards in place to keep it secure.
There was a decade between Lorroakan leaving Athkatla and acquiring that tower. So chances are, he made some money through his enchantments, like waterproofing clothes (that special spell he refuses to share lmao) and later with Sorcerous Sundries. I also think he probably got involved with shady people and did some shady deals. That tower must’ve cost a fortune after all.

LORROAKAN RUN, part III.
- omg just give me the bloody lute already so you’ll stop whining!!! YES I can play the lute, so what?? I’m a man of many talents - got kidnapped by a disney villain :/ - had to perform a VanHelsing on Astarion when he tried to drain him dry like a capri sun without even asking - More bickering with Gale. Also, he saved Gale’s life. Even though he’s wearing a silly hat.

LORROAKAN RUN, part V.
- "You can keep your coin! Do I LOOK like I need coin?! What I NEED is to be rid of these wretched brain worms, you imbecile!!!!! ... Ugh. Yes, yes, you are most welcome for me saving your hides..." - No, Halsin, I DON’T WANT TO PARTY!!! No more DELAYS !!!! - At the tiefling party; rivals to… whatever the hells Gale and Lorroakan have going on now. - GALE, omg. LORROAKAN IS RIGHT THERE. - …Woah, Lae’zel---- whuh?? huh??? - At the Teahouse with Gandrel: Yes hun, ‘taking insult where none is intended’ is practically Lorri’s specialty (this is so on-brand, I can’t even---). Also, Lorroakan isn’t exactly thrilled to learn this little fun fact about Astarion. "Children?? This insufferable leech. I’ve already dealt with him. Perhaps I’ll drag him back from the abyss just to kill him again." - No, he had no intention of waltzing into a hag’s lair. But with Karlach AND Gale in the group here we go playing hero again! Oh? Mayrina doesn’t even want to be saved?? Well, then! Who are we to meddle in the affairs of a fey and their willing victim?? We’ll just take the hag’s hair and be on our way. DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT, GALE.

LORROAKAN RUN, part II.
- Gale & Lorroakan fight like an old married couple 24/7 (bonus; he’s found his apprentice/butler/attack-dog at the Grove! Rolan is ready to throw hands for his master’s honor) - Lorroakan saved two kids today. Behold! The noble master of Ramazith’s tower! A shining beacon of heroism! (but srsly, can someone put these little foulbloods on a leash???) - It’s been three days, and he’s already had his throat nearly slit twice.

I already assumed Lorroakan takes full advantage of the fear and chaos the Absolute creates. The demand for magical services, weapons, protection etc. rises with fear, and Lorroakan, unsurprisingly, capitalizes on it.
And now I found this note:
HEH. What an asshole I love him.
I’m sure he’s raised his prices too.

✨Lorroakan, the Six of Wands✨
Very excited to finally be able to reveal my art for the @bg3tarotdeck project! 👏
I also contributed my writing skills to the tarot, and wrote the short stories that will accompany The Fool (Alfira and Scratch), the Five of Pentacles (Ghustil Stornugoss), and the Page of Swords (Mol). ☺️
This project was such a blast. Congrats to everyone and yippee for finally getting to share!

i think the ultimate crossover would be Lorroakan and tiny Kar'niss. like he's positively unhappy that he has to deal with tiny Kar'niss, but the way this tiny creature is relentlessly clingy appeals to the soft spot hid deeply in his heart. plus he has something, someone, to banter with - they can throw pointed insults back and forth, and tiny Kar'niss wouldn't hesitate to jab him with his legs (imagine small dog energy, or feral cat - small but very fierce) or shred his favourite books if it came down to it, so Lorroakan knows better than to lash out at tiny Kar'niss lest he wakes up with books shredded and robe torn and his staff half chewed through. he claims "the small... creature... does have its uses" but he will never admit he simply enjoys the company.

the fandom experience is seeing someone make a joke that twists your blorbo's characterization for comedic purposes and not saying anything because you know its just a joke and you don't want to be a killjoy but also knowing this kind of thing definitely influences unironic depictions of the blorbo so you just stand there like that meme of the guy with his lips pursed and his veins popping

Everyone and their mom hates Lorroakan. I mean, I GET IT (though there are much worse characters in terms of morality, just saying adfdsdf).
BUT. I have a scientifically proven list of why he is kinda cool >:c *slams down my papers*
his hair. HIS HAIR.
In my opinion, his face model is one of the best. He is so very expressive, and his lil imperfections make him look like an actual person. His freckles and beauty marks?? Also, his eye color? I use a mod to have it in my character creator. <3
Yeah, I love how expressive he is overall, especially with all the gesturing. Adds so much to his character.
I think his backstory offers a lot of room for interpretation, and as someone who likes a bit of creative flexibility with canon characters, I really enjoy that. How was his life like in Athkatla? Why is he such a grandiose prick in the first place? It's mentioned multiple times he is a charlatan and he has 16 CHA - fairly high for a wizard -, so that's also interesting. I love dissecting characters like him. Check out my HCs, bish.
Lorroakan is a capable mage, but he is nowhere near as powerful as he likes to pretend. I feel like there is a lot of insecurity underneath it all (I mean, seriously, he can't even admit in death that Rolan is be more powerful than him?? DUh). Yet another interesting aspect worth exploring imo...
BUT HE STILL MADE IT?? He is Master of Ramazith's Tower, a business owner, he holds a lot of political sway according to Rolan, and he is a recognized name in Baldur's Gate and beyond (Rolan is from Elturel and has been "admiring him for years"). Despite many people knowing Lorroakan is a braggart and a charlatan, plenty still believe in his reputation! Fake it till you make it haha XD
He rarely leaves his tower (they call him "Recluse of Ramazith's Tower") and I'm having a lot of thoughts about that as well!!
Okay, that's it for now. I like talking about the mean wizard. :p
