Really weird fucking dream that was a "back in high school" dream but it was on a day the whole school got sent to a military recruitment expo and I was annoying all the recruiters by being 40 and transgender. Hopefully not prophetic about whatever future wars may or may not happen soon.

There was a weird group exercise where we had to form concentric circles of people and then walk in alternating directions from each other, people in the middle of the circle had to be coffee beans that would get ground up and out of the circle through gaps in the rings - the military would observe behavior of people during this to find the people most and least suitable to nab.

I'll be totally honest, growing up I always thought the idea of hiding "flaws" behind makeup was strange.

If you ask me, flaws are something to be beautified, not hidden but exemplified, partnered with something (as an example, black lipstick with natural freckles is really cute).

I'm still learning like, how to be a girl and therefore dont know a lot about makeup but, idk I feel like natural is almost always better looking from a pure attraction standpoint, and when paired with what you called obvious makeup, can look really pretty.

Once I get out of my parent's house I plan to get myself a proper makeup kit so I can test styles. I've got a lot of flaws that I domt necessarily want to cover up, more or less just make look better by pairing them with something else.

the thing about makeup is that i do think it is a cool skill to have and that it can be a form of self-expression, i just also know that this is not the kind of makeup that women are talked into doing in their everyday lives. there's just a big difference between 'obvious makeup' and 'stealth makeup' to me: when someone puts on a sparkly golden eyeshadow or a black lipstick, it's something that draws attention to itself -- it's a fashion statement, not unlike wearing a necklace or an earring, something that's part of a look. but stealth makeup, 'everyday makeup', is all about not drawing attention to itself: it's about masking any perceived flaws you may have.

sure, some of it is often still tastefully noticeable (mostly lipstick and maybe some eyeliner/eyelash extensions), but a lot of it aims to look as natural as possible while subtly changing your features into something more 'acceptable'. there's a lot of stories about women not putting on makeup for a day and having other people say they look ill or 'strange', for instance, and it's because these people did not really notice that everyday makeup in the first place, at least not to the extent they thought they did. so, it usually involves a lot of concealer and contouring, and all of it with the intention of changing the shape of your face in a way which, quite frankly, is rarely ever 'fun'. i doubt anyone feels artistically fulfilled by slimming down their nose every day, for instance. unlike someone who wears a cool lipstick or is trying to go for a particular look as part of a costume, i doubt they'd do it just for the sake of it if they didn't feel like they had to.

to put it plainly, i think a lot of women don't really wear makeup to look prettier or cooler, necessarily, but to disguise their perceived ugliness. instead of an ornament, it's a correction. in that way, makeup becomes a chore and an obligation, and is bound to affect the self-image of those who wear it that way -- and which traits so casually get to be considered desirable and which ones constantly are encouraged to be hidden and altered are definitely not something that just comes out of nowhere, just a harmless little personal preference like some people like to act, as if beauty standards carry no racial or misogynistic baggage and influence. more than anything else, this purposefully obtuse act is what's truly insufferable to me.

I swear, theres already enough tragedies that people dont learn about in school, like how black segregation wasnt just "they had to sit at the back of the bus" and was more like the government being actual nazis (you can look this up on your own, Hitler admired american segregationist policies) (also Lynching wasnt made illegal until 3 years ago).

Or alternatively, you can talk about how the chinese exclusion act, which made pretty much all east asian people coming to the US into second-rate citizens and denied them all forms of citizenship, this law wasnt repealed until 1943.

Or going even further back, look to the genocide of the indigenous peoples of America. While most people have heard of the Trail of Tears, have you heard of the Sand Creek or Bear River massacres? How about the forced sterilization of indigenous women in the fucking 1970s??

In the modern day, its Immigrants (or whoever they say is one) and Queers, who's next?

Point is, the government already hides most of its nazi-esque past, and now theres an actual nazi in charge.

my dad has a 2001 Silverado with probably about 2 tons of tools in the bed (which has been modified to have two 6 ft long pull-out toolboxes taking up the entire bottom half of the bed, a 10-20 gallon water tank and 3 other toolboxes all full of various things) and it handles it like a dream, no sag or anything (mostly because I think hes replaced just about everything on that truck to barely make it a Silverado anymore beyond the frame and chasis)

my brother has a similar setup except on his diesel ram, and holds probably 2.5 tons of tools
