              kasey  holds  off  cradling  ian’s  face  closer  to  his  neck  ,  deciding  to  let  all  of  it  sink  in  first  ——  though  ,  they’re  having  a  hard  time  doing  so  being  so  close  to  him.  his  heart  is  racing  ,  like  it’s  about  to  beat  out  of  their  chest  and  their  breathing  is  becoming  a  little  rapid.  so  this  is  really  happening.  ‘’  idiot  ,  ’’  kasey  mumbles  ,  tears  on  the  brim  of  falling  down  their  cheeks  as  they  swat  at  ian’s  shoulder  ,  looking  down  where  the  man  has  his  face  hidden  in  their  shoulder.  ‘’  why  didn’t  you  say  ?  why  let  me  date  asshole  after  jerk  ?  why  leave  me  to  go  on  long  tours  without  me  knowing  that  you  left  while  liking  me  ?  ’’  kasey  feels  bad  ,  most  of  all  ,  for  ian  to  witness  and  watch  kasey  get  his  heart  broken  time  and  time  again.  they  sniffle  softly  ,  looking  down  before  slowly  wrapping  their  arms  around  the  other.  ‘’  you’re  an  idiot  ,  you’re  an  idiot.  ’’

                   wind   begins   to   swat   at   cheeks   once   again   ,   turning   them   crimson   red   ----   prior   to   embracing   the   warmth   of   their   arms   wrapping   around   tense   body   .   shamed   by   the   fact   that   every   point   they'd   made   was   factual   ,   though   ian   knew   he'd   been   selfish   .   based   on   the   reality   that   he'd   been   too   scared   to   admit   he'd   been   falling   in   love   with   them   ,   all   the   while   cherishing   every   second   that   they'd   spent   with   one   another   while   discovering   different   aspects   of   them   altogether   .   “   you   know   ,   i   ..   i   don't   wanna   see   myself   become   one   of   those   assholes   .   the   idea   of   losing   you   at   all   petrifies   me   ,   i   don't   know   what   the   fuck   i'd   do   with   myself   .   you're   my   bestfriend   ,   kase   .   bestfriends   don't   tell   eachother   about   how   one   has   these   weird   unrequited   feelings   ..   it's   embarrassing   .   and   i   --   i   tried   to   ghost   this   infatuation   ,   but   i   can't   .   i'm   in   love   with   you   ,   kasey   .   and   ...   i'm   not   sorry   for   it   .      ”

 an  unclear  silence  fills  the  space  between  them  for  a  moment  ,  the  girl’s  gaze  tracing  every  inch  of  the  other’s  face.  the  word  last  isn’t  one  she’s  particularly  happy  to  hear  but  she  does  well  to  hide  the  fact  as  it’s  spoken.  she  couldn’t  possibly  admit  it  ,  not  so  quickly.  this  game  between  them  was  usually  too  fun  to  quit  ,  too  addicting  ,  but  it  was  moments  like  this  where  she  wondered  if  all  that  fun  was  really  all  worth  it.  “  of  course  you’d  prefer  that.  otherwise  you’d  be  the  one  lying.  no  ,  it  won’t  affect  me  any  …  what  about  you  though  ?  sure  it  won’t  break  your  heart  too  bad  after  it’s  all  said  and  done  ?  ”

               sigh   escapes   lips   listening   to   the   other   speak   ,   ensuring   that   none   of   his   true   emotion   appears   on   his   face   .   turning   to   face   the   ground   only   to   find   himself   meeting   her   face   to   face   moments   later   ,   begins   contemplating   the   question   left   at   hand   whether   or   not   he   would   genuinely   care   .   and   in   fact   ,   he   would   give   even   the   slightest   shit   if   it   meant   that   the   two   would   never   see   one   another   again   hurt   him   in   a   way   he   wasn't   able   to   explain   .   “   the   fact   that   you   are   essentially   proving   you   wouldn't   care   if   we   never   spoke   again   speaks   volumes   to   me   ---   i   guess   i   wouldn't   care   ,   seeing   as   you   don't   either   .   ”

              the  wind  that  previously  swept  up  their  hairs  and  raced  past  their  blossomed  cheeks  has  disappeared  ,  the  noises  of  the  waters  and  waves  crashing  onto  shore  mere  white  noise  and  the  height  the  pair  finds  themselves  on  like  they’re  in  the  clouds  ——  all  in  all  ,  it's  like  they’re  the  last  people  on  earth.  kasey  grows  quiet  ,  suspecting  where  ian  goes  with  his  little  speech  and  only  slightly  nodding  when  asked  to  promise  to  let  their  relationship  not  become  weird.  wide  and  curious  eyes  gaze  at  him  ,  feeling  the  warmth  spread  across  their  chest  ,  their  face  as  ian  speaks.  ‘’  you  …  ’’  is  the  only  thing  he  manages  to  stammer  ,  looking  away  and  forward  at  the  sight  before  him  and  holding  on  to  the  man’s  hand  tighter  when  they  feel  they’re  losing  their  grip.  ‘’  how  …  how  long  ?  ’’  they  ask  in  low  volume  ,  squinting  when  looking  in  ian’s  direction  again.  ‘’  you  mean  me  ,  right  ?  there’s  not  another  best  friend  existing  that  i  don’t  know  about  ?  ’’

               eyes   widen   ,   noticing   the   grip   that   the   other   had   taken   upon   his   hand   ,   finding   himself   scooting   closer   to   their   side   in   an   attempt   to   bury   face   in   their   shoulder   without   showing   too   much   embarrassment   .   it   hadn't   even   been   embarrassment   ,   it   felt   like   the   weight   of   the   world   lifting   off   his   shoulders   though   he   hadn't   exactly   expected   to   completely   make   himself   vulnerable   ,   even   so   feeling   the   most   comfortable   with   kasey   and   kasey   alone   .      “   it's   been   a   while   kase   ,   i'll   be   honest   .   but   ..   you're   my   best   friend   .   my   other   half   .   and   i   think   all   the   while   i   was   discovering   different   aspects   of   you   --   i   was   umm   ,   falling   in   love   with   you   at   the   same   time   .   ”   last   few   words   come   out   softer   then   a   whisper   ,   though   ian   desperately   makes   sure   the   other   can   hear   loudly   and   just   as   clear   .
