I can't seem to get myself to sit through more information dumping spoon fed washed down storyline writing it's happening. You can't distract me with shiny chi that's very beautiful and impressivly used and casting and everything else gear going for it.
With the Netflix series dropping their live action of the original source material I'll be here again!
So far having seen ep1 the day it dorpped then ep2 yester-night, I gotta say so far it's doing greet. And so far the runner up especially in comparison to what mess M. Night's creative take on the series.
What are your guys thoughts so far on the live action?

Disney’s Avatar: The Last Airbender
I’m amazed this actually worked. In case anyone’s confused - I didn’t make this from scratch – it’s actually a shot from Disney’s Moana which I simply modified in Photoshop, frame by frame. Lotta work, but a lotta fun, but I’m glad it’s done -u-;

Aang in 2.01: “Stop this! You have to let her go!…. You don’t need to do this!”
Katara in 3.08: “Stop! Please ...”
let’s talk about how in these parallels, aang and katara are explicitly being exploited by adults that they thought they could trust, in an attempt for these adults to harness destructive power from within the children. in either episode, aang and katara, devastated and tearful, are brought to their knees, begging for the pain and torture to stop (in aang’s case, he’s preventing general fong from hurting katara; in katara’s case, she’s protecting herself from hama, who is willing her to bloodbend). ultimately, the two children reach their breaking points, which results in them not only generating great bouts of power, but picking up a bending technique/state that goes completely against their moral beliefs.
what’s even more interesting about these parallels is that both techniques - the avatar state and bloodbending - were forcefully adapted by the children as a defense mechanism to save each other. for aang’s case, general fong decides to hurt katara in an attempt to trigger the avatar state out of aang. similarly, katara bloodbends in an effort to protect aang from becoming impaled by sokka’s sword. after adapting these last-minute resorts against their will, katara and aang in each instance are understandably ashamed by the damage that the bending caused to their physical and mental well-being, as well as to their surroundings. at the end of both episodes, the children provide comfort and consolidation to one another for the pain that they were forced to endure:

EXCLUSIVE: Azula is currently being cast for Season 1 of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender
We have confirmation that everyone’s favorite Fire Nation Princess will appear in the first season of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, and that casting for the role is currently taking place.
Unlike for the four main roles of Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko, we don’t have details like the character age and ethnicity, nor have public casting calls gone up. It’s possible they still will, and casting for this role is yet to begin, or they’re already taking place completely closed and it was only public (but not open, since the characters/show being auditioned for were kept a secret) for the four main characters.
We can make some guesses though. Princess Azula is the younger sister of Prince Zuko. This makes it almost certain the casting call for her will be the same ethnicity as it was for him, which was East Asian or South Asian, with the role going to 20-year-old Chinese-Indonesian-American actor Dallas Liu. In the original series, Zuko was 16 while Azula was 14. In the new series, Zuko is 17, so aged up by one year, and played by an actor who was 19 at the time of casting. Another point of comparison is that in the original series, Katara and Sokka were 14 and 15 respectively, while in the live-action show they’re 14 and 16. So, it’s possible Azula will be kept the same like Katara, or aged up by ~1 year like Sokka and Zuko. Her actor could be the exact age of the character like Aang and Katara, or slightly older like Sokka and Zuko. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being an ~18yo actor playing a ~16yo Azula, since the role is quite complex and demanding, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a 14yo actor playing a 14yo Azula. There’s precedent for both!
Another thing to keep track of is that Azula only had cameos in Book One: Water of the original series. One was in the audience during Zuko’s Agni Kai with Ozai, which took place three years before the series, when she was 11. The other is in the very last scene of the season, where she’s introduced as the new villain when Ozai dispatches her to capture Zuko and Iroh. It’s possible they’re casting early just for small moments like this, but keep in mind it’ll be one to two years before she would be a main character in Season 2 of the live-action series (assuming each season adapts one original season) and so the actor chosen will be older by then. I see this as the most likely outcome, with maybe even a separate, younger actor chosen for the flashback (Same for Zuko? Or maybe even de-aged with makeup and/or CGI?) since they seem to be going for a faithful, “authentic” remake. In that case, it’s cool that they’re putting in the effort to cast Azula now. However, it’s also possible her role will be slightly expanded in this version of the story because they’re casting such a major character now. Again, it feels like there’s precedent for both with what we know so far about the show’s goals and plans. We’ll have to wait and see!
I should also note that this just happens to be the next casting I’ve been told about behind closed doors. It doesn’t guarantee the order of casting, i.e. other characters like Iroh, Zhao, Suki, Yue, etc. could be taking place in any order as well at the moment, I just haven’t heard anything else yet. This is a pretty cool one to hear about though, and definitely gets me hyped! What about you?
Filming starts in November and is set to run through May 2022.

Jabbar Raisani has been announced as the third director on Netflix’s ATLA series!
He will direct an unknown number of episodes of the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Jabbar Raisani has a pretty prolific career in visual effects, from minor work on Marvel Studios’ Iron Man (2008) to a supervising role in the visual effects of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Everything else to the side, I think most people agree that Game of Thrones’ VFX was pretty top-notch so I find this actually a really good sign– I feel like there’s a lot of overlap in terms of a rustic fantasy vibe with a lot of travel, cool, important locations and creatures (hello, dragons!).
But that’s VFX– Jabbar Raisani is a director on ATLA and his experience with that lies mainly in Netflix’s scifi series Lost in Space, where he recently directed two episodes.
Speaking of “two episodes”, that’s the amount I’ve been saying is common for directors to do on Netflix series. ATLA will be ten episodes, so if that holds up, we’ve covered six episodes with the three directors known so far– Michael Goi and Roseanne Liang were previously reported and also then announced by Netflix. That official announcement gave us our third director, but it also didn’t include any others. It’s possible they’re not done hiring the presumed remaining two yet, or that this won’t follow the Witcher and Shadow and Bone mould and ATLA will have directors doing three or four episodes instead. Michael Goi and Roseanne Liang are also executive and co-executive producers respectively, so they’ll have a long-term role across the whole show. Given this, it’ll actually be pretty interesting to see which episodes everyone will direct. It’s possible it’ll be a core group of people directing episodes throughout all seasons of the show, like, for example, The Crown.
As far as Season 1 is concerned, we’ll find out for sure by November, which is when filming starts. It will run until May, with a probable release date for the show of December 2022.

Character ages confirmed for Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series — Aang and Katara unchanged, Sokka and Zuko aged up by one year
BIG NEWS, we have confirmation of the four main characters’ ages in live-action ATLA. This comes from an official source, via a source that has requested to remain anonymous. I saw the original, official source with my own eyes and can confirm it’s legit– hopefully we can post more from it soon because there are some other interesting, related tidbits. BUT. For now, the main event: the characters’ ages!
In live-action ATLA:
Aang is 12
Katara is 14
Sokka is 16
Zuko is 17
To compare:
In the original animated series, Aang was 12. In the live-action series he is also 12.
In the original animated series, Katara was 14. In the live-action series she is also 14.
In the original animated series, Sokka was 15. In the live-action series he is one year older: 16.
In the original animated series, Zuko was 16. In the live-action series he is one year older: 17.
Overall, no big changes from the characters’ original ages. If I was to guess why Sokka and Zuko were aged up, well, my first guess would be that it doesn’t mean anything. But my second guess would be that maybe they want to have a bit more delineation between child characters and teen characters, to be able to hit more different target audiences.
But wait there’s more!
There is actually another piece of news that came out today that makes a lot of sense when taken in conjunction with this.
Live-action ATLA’s filming start date has moved from August to November
Earlier today, What’s on Netflix reported this new start date and I confirmed this with them.
With these two things taken together, I get the sense that it’s possible the ages were just now officially locked down, finally letting them move to the next phase of production. This could mean that the actors have either just been cast, or are ready to be cast. Both of those are possible with a November start date, and neither feels particularly more likely than the other so for now I’m not gonna speculate on whether casting is done or not.
But overall, more and more news is clearly starting to pour in! Keep an eye out because there are exciting times ahead– for both the Netflix series and Avatar Studios. The race is on!
