A Sherlollian Fairy Story
Tumblr media
Once upon a time, not so very long ago, there was a handsome and supremely talented prince who lived in a secluded little fortress in a tiny corner of his Kingdom. Not for him a huge and grand castle which towered above its town, flying flags from its battlements to herald his presence. Not for him a fanfare or parade of plumed horses to celebrate his nobility.
No, for the prince needed to dwell, innominate within his kingdom, so that he could help his people as silently as an untold secret; so that he could see their deeds both good and bad, and watch their comings and goings like a spectre in the crowd.
Thus, for many years, the prince worked day and night, protected by his loneliness and replete in the solving of puzzles and the righting of wrongs. Daily, the townsfolk buzzed about his fortress, never suspecting his fine birth and bountiful talents. His enemies would sometimes design to breech his fortress, but they were no match for his strength and his wisdom.
One day, as he travelled through the town to visit his apothecary, the prince chanced upon a small enchantress who held most useful potions and spells in her cottage which the prince did see and began to covet daily. Although she shared her potions most generously (some of which even allowed the prince to disappear at will), the prince did not truly see the small enchantress and her heart weighed heavy as her love for him glowed and pulsed in a jar on her highest shelf, where no-one would see it.
Many days and nights passed by, and soon, the prince's good deeds were discovered by an evil and malevolent fairy who lived on a secret island where the walls had eyes and nothing was secret anymore. The prince and those he held most dear were captured and imprisoned, tortured and cursed, and even though he defeated the dark fairy, the prince knew he would never be the same again.
He made his way through thickets and dark forests to find the cottage of the small enchantress, and he climbed to the highest shelf, because he could see her glowing heart and he wished to hold it in his hands.
The prince could no longer live alone in his fortress, for he knew that once he had held true love in his hands and felt the warmth seep in through each of his fingers, he would know that alone did not protect him any more.
Then, the small enchantress saw his heart glow as bright and strong as her own, and she smiled because she'd always kept a jar for him. Always.
And they lived happily, ever after.
Obviously.

STUDY IN SCARLET
JOHN (rushing into the sitting room at 221B and waving the latest gossip sheets beneath Sherlock’s nose): You gotta see this!
SHERLOCK (disgusted moue at such close proximity to said rag): I beg to differ.
JOHN: It's only Moriarty!
SHERLOCK: Dead.
JOHN (smoothing paper across table): No, not only not dead, but at the BAFTAs and lapping up the attention like a modern-day Lazarus!
SHERLOCK (bent over rag and peering intently): Goodness, John. Both living and revelling in the MOST impressive glow-up I'veseen since Molly Hooper at the Christmas party.
JOHN (peering): He does look pretty good.
SHERLOCK (smirking): Now here is a true Study in Scarlet.

It was on this day 136 years ago that the world was introduced to Sherlock Holmes - the greatest detective of all time. (And, consequently, Sherlockian chronology was born.)
