The first rays of sunlight stream through the curtains, gently rousing you from sleep. Beside you, Anton stirs, his arm instinctively wrapping around your growing belly. At four months pregnant, you’re starting to show more prominently, and Anton can't get enough of talking to the baby.
"Good morning," he murmurs, his voice still thick with sleep.
"Good morning," you reply, smiling as you place your hand over his.
Anton shifts closer, pressing his ear against your belly. "Hey there, little one," he whispers, his breath warm against your skin. "Daddy can't wait to meet you. Your sisters and brother are so excited too. Just a few more months, okay?"
You chuckle softly, running your fingers through his hair. "They'll be here before we know it."
Reluctantly, you both get out of bed. Anton stretches and yawns before turning to you. "I'll get started on breakfast. You go wake up the kids."
You nod and head to Chanwoo's room first. Your two-year-old son is still snuggled under his blanket, his favorite giraffe stuffie clutched tightly in his arms. As you gently shake him awake, he immediately reaches up, his sleepy eyes blinking open.
"Mama," he mumbles, wrapping his tiny arms around your neck and burying his face into your chest.
"Good morning, sweetheart," you whisper, kissing the top of his head. Despite the slight strain on your back, you can't resist holding him close. You know Anton would scold you for carrying him, but those morning cuddles are just too precious.
You carry Chanwoo to the twins' room next. Yechan and Chanmi are five, and while they usually wake up easily, today is different. Both girls are still curled up in their beds, clearly not wanting to get up.
"Come on, girls, time to wake up," you call softly, gently shaking Chanmi first.
She groans and finally opens her eyes, looking at you with a pout. "I don't feel good, Mommy," she says, her voice weak.
You press your hand to her forehead and feel the heat radiating off her. "You have a fever," you note, your heart sinking. "You can stay in bed. Daddy and I will bring you breakfast soon."
You move to Yechan's bed next, but as soon as you touch her, she feels even hotter than Chanmi. "Mommy, I don't feel good either," she groans, and before you can react, she bolts out of bed and runs to the bathroom.
"Chanwoo, go downstairs to Daddy, okay?" you instruct, putting him down gently. He clings to your leg, his eyes wide with worry.
"wan stay with you," he protests.
"I know, baby, but your sisters are sick. You don't want to get sick too, do you?" you reason gently.
Pouting, Chanwoo reluctantly lets go and makes his way downstairs, leaving you to follow Yechan. You find her in the bathroom, crying and vomiting into the toilet. Your heart breaks at the sight.
"It's okay, sweetheart," you soothe, holding her hair back. "Mommy's here."
Once Yechan is done, you help her strip out of her pajamas and run a warm bath. She shivers and whimpers, clearly feeling miserable. You wash her gently, trying to comfort her as best you can. After the bath, you dress her in fresh pajamas and tuck her back into bed.
"Mommy will bring you some medicine and breakfast soon, okay?" you promise, kissing her forehead.
You then turn to Chanmi, who has watched the entire process with tired eyes. "Do you want a bath too, sweetie?" you ask.
Chanmi nods weakly, allowing you to pick her up and carry her to the bathroom. The bath seems to do her some good, as she’s cooling down a bit compared to Yechan. After dressing her in clean pajamas, you tuck her back into bed and kiss her forehead as well.
Feeling more exhausted than ever, you finally make your way downstairs. Anton is in the kitchen, flipping pancakes while feeding Chanwoo cut-up strawberries. He looks up when he hears you enter and smiles softly.
"How are the girls?" he asks, concern evident in his eyes.
"They're both running fevers," you reply, sitting down at the table with a heavy sigh. "Yechan seems worse than Chanmi. I'll check their temperatures again after they eat and take some medicine."
"Call your mom and ask for advice if they don't get better," Anton suggests, his eyes flickering with worry. "She always knows what to do."
You nod in agreement. "I will."
You make yourself a bowl of cereal and feed Chanwoo some of your food as you update Anton on the girls' condition. "Yechan is really struggling. Chanmi seems a bit better after her bath, but Yechan… she threw up and looks so miserable."
Anton frowns, flipping another pancake. "We'll keep a close eye on them. I've made their favorite pancakes. Maybe that'll cheer them up a bit."
You smile at his thoughtfulness, grateful to have such a caring partner. Once you finish your cereal, you take a cooked pancake, top it with blueberries, strawberries, and a little whipped cream—just how Chanwoo likes it. You cut it up into tiny pieces so he won't choke, but as you place the plate in front of him, he immediately starts to pout.
"don' want pancakes. I want ice cream!" he declares, crossing his arms defiantly.
You try to explain gently. "Ice cream isn't for breakfast, sweetie. You need to eat what Daddy made."
Chanwoo's pout deepens, and he looks like he is about to throw a tantrum. Before he can, Anton steps in. "Chanwoo, you need to eat breakfast first. If you're good and eat your food, you can have some ice cream later. Deal?"
Chanwoo considers this for a moment before reluctantly nodding. "kay, daddy."
As he eats his food, you help Anton plate up the twins' breakfast. By the time Chanwoo finishes eating, Anton is done with the rest of the pancakes. You take Chanwoo to the living room, turning on Gracie's Corner to keep him entertained while you and Anton bring the twins their breakfast.
You carry a tray with pancakes, cut-up fruit, and a glass of juice upstairs, while Anton follows with a similar tray. Chanmi is half-asleep but smiles weakly when she sees the food.
"Thank you, Mommy. Thank you, Daddy," she says softly, trying to sit up.
You help her get comfortable and place the tray in front of her. "Eat up, sweetie. It'll help you feel better."
Next, you go to Yechan, who is lying in bed, looking miserable. "Hey, princess," you greet softly, placing the tray on her bedside table. "How are you feeling?"
Yechan shakes her head weakly. "Not good, Mommy."
You sit on the edge of her bed, brushing her hair back. "I know, baby. Try to eat something, okay? It'll help."
She nods reluctantly, picking at her food. You make sure both girls have their medicine and check their temperatures again. Chanmi's fever seems to be going down a bit, but Yechan's is still high.
"I'll call Mom and see what she suggests," you tell Anton, who nods in agreement.
Back downstairs, you find Chanwoo still engrossed in his show. You take a moment to catch your breath, sitting down next to him. Anton joins you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders.
"You're doing great," he says, kissing your temple.
"Thanks," you reply, leaning into him.
He smiles and squeezes your shoulder. "They’ll be okay, don’t worry, it’s not good for the baby.”
"I'll call Mom now," you tell Anton before walking away.
You step into the kitchen for a bit of privacy and dial your mom’s number. It doesn’t take long for her to pick up.
"Hi, sweetie. How are you?" her warm voice comes through the line.
"Hey, Mom. The twins are both running fevers, and Yechan’s really struggling. Chanmi seems a bit better after a bath, but Yechan threw up," you explain, trying to keep your voice steady.
"Oh dear, that sounds rough," she responds sympathetically. "Keep a close eye on them. If they don’t get better within the next two hours or their fever continues to rise, you should take them to the hospital. Make sure they stay hydrated and rest as much as possible."
"Okay, thanks, Mom. I’ll do that," you say, feeling a bit more reassured.
"Call me if you need anything, and keep me updated," she adds.
"I will. Thanks again. Love you, Mom."
"Love you too, sweetheart," she replies before hanging up.
You return to the living room, where Anton is playing with Chanwoo. He looks up at you expectantly. "What did she say?"
"She said to keep a close eye on them. If they don’t get better in the next two hours or if their fever keeps rising, we should take them to the hospital," you relay, feeling a bit more in control of the situation.
Anton nods, his expression serious. "We’ll keep a close watch."
Chanwoo looks up from his show, his eyes bright with an idea. "Mama, I want to make sissies a card! Make them feel better."
Your heart melts at his sweet suggestion. "That’s a wonderful idea, Chanwoo."
Anton stands up, ready to help. "I’ll grab the supplies."
While Anton gathers paper, crayons, and stickers from the craft cupboard, you watch Chanwoo’s excitement grow. Anton spreads everything out on the coffee table, and Chanwoo eagerly dives into the project, his little hands moving quickly as he draws and decorates the cards.
You sit back and watch, feeling a swell of pride and love for your family. Anton helps Chanwoo with some of the trickier parts, like spelling out "Get Well Soon" on the cards. Together, they create colorful, heartfelt masterpieces.
Once the cards are done, Chanwoo beams with pride. "I’m gonna give them to sissies now!"
"Alright, go ahead," Anton says with a smile, giving Chanwoo a gentle pat on the back.
Chanwoo runs upstairs, his little feet pattering against the floor. You and Anton share a tender moment, watching him go.
"He’s such a good brother," you say softly, leaning into Anton.
"He really is," Anton agrees, wrapping an arm around you. "And you’re an amazing mom."
You smile, feeling the warmth of his words. "I couldn’t do it without you."
Anton tilts your chin up, pressing a gentle kiss to your lips. "We make a great team."
As Chanwoo is upstairs sharing his cards with his sisters, you and Anton take a moment to just be together. The house is unusually quiet, save for the soft sounds of Chanwoo’s enthusiastic chatter upstairs. Anton pulls you closer, and you rest your head on his shoulder, savoring the calm.
"Do you remember the first time we had to deal with the twins being sick?" Anton asks, a nostalgic smile playing on his lips.
You laugh softly, nodding. "How could I forget? We were so worried and clueless. You spent hours researching everything you could online, and we called your mom like three times."
Anton chuckles, shaking his head. "Yeah, we were a mess. But we got through it."
"And we’ll get through this too," you add.
Anton kisses your forehead and pulls back, looking at you with a mix of admiration and love. "You know, I’m really proud of how you handle everything. The kids, the house, this pregnancy. You make it all look so easy."
Your heart swells at his words. "It’s not easy, but having you by my side makes it manageable."
He kisses your forehead. "I feel the same way. We’re lucky to have each other."
You sit in comfortable silence for a few moments, just enjoying each other’s company.
Chanwoo’s footsteps echo down the stairs, and he comes running back into the living room, his face lit up with excitement. "Sissies love the cards, Mama! They said thank you!"
You smile warmly, pulling him into your lap. "That’s wonderful, sweetheart. You did such a good job."
Chanwoo beams, snuggling into you. Anton wraps his arms around both of you, and for a moment, everything feels perfect despite the chaos of the day.
Chanwoo looks up at you with hopeful eyes. "Mama, can we watch a movie?"
Anton glances at you, a soft smile playing on his lips. "Why not? With the new baby on the way and the twins growing up so fast, we rarely get time to just relax with our baby boy."
You nod, feeling the same way. "What do you want to watch, Chanwoo?"
"Inside Out 2!" he exclaims, bouncing with excitement.
"Inside Out 2 it is," Anton says, grabbing the remote and navigating to the movie.
You settle onto the couch with Chanwoo nestled between you and Anton, the warmth of your family creating a cozy atmosphere. As the movie begins, you feel a sense of peace wash over you. It’s been a long day, but these moments of togetherness make it all worthwhile.
Chanwoo is captivated by the movie, his eyes wide with wonder as he watches the characters on the screen. You and Anton exchange a smile, enjoying the rare quiet moment. As the movie progresses, Chanwoo’s eyelids grow heavy, and soon he’s fast asleep, his little head resting against your lap.
Anton gently lifts Chanwoo, careful not to wake him. "I’ll put him down for his nap," he whispers, carrying him to his room.
You follow, watching as Anton tucks Chanwoo into his bed. He looks so peaceful, his tiny body relaxed in sleep. You both stand there for a moment, gazing at him with love.
"Let’s go check on the twins," you say softly, and Anton nods in agreement.
You head to the twins' room, finding them still resting. Anton checks Chanmi’s temperature first, and she stirs slightly, her eyes fluttering open.
"How are you feeling, sweetheart?" you ask, brushing her hair back from her forehead.
"I’m okay, Mama," she whispers, her voice hoarse. "Just tired."
Anton nods, reading the thermometer. "Her temps down but she still has a slight fever. She’s getting better, though."
You both move to Yechan’s bed next, and your heart aches seeing her so unwell. Anton checks her temperature, and it hasn’t improved. Yechan cuddles into his side, tears streaming down her face.
"It’s okay, baby girl," Anton soothes, rubbing her back gently. "Can you try to drink some water for daddy?"
Yechan shakes her head, her tears coming harder. "I don’t want to, Daddy. It hurts."
You exchange a worried glance with Anton. "Sweetie, we might need to go to the hospital if you don’t get better. Do you want to go now or wait a little longer?"
Yechan’s eyes widen with fear. "Wait, please. I’m scared of the hospital."
Anton kisses the top of her head, his voice soft and reassuring. "Okay, we’ll wait another hour. But you need to rest and try to drink some water, okay?"
Yechan nods reluctantly, snuggling deeper into his side. You feel a pang of helplessness, wishing there was more you could do.
After making sure both girls are as comfortable as possible, you and Anton step out of the room, heading to your own bedroom. The weight of the day presses down on you, and you can feel the stress manifesting physically. Your stomach tightens with cramps, and you take a deep breath, trying to steady yourself.
Anton notices immediately, his brow furrowing with concern. "Are you okay?"
You nod, but the tears in your eyes betray your true feelings. "I’m just so worried, Anton. What if she doesn’t get better?"
Anton wraps his arms around you, pulling you close. "I know, love. But we’re doing everything we can. You need to stay calm for the baby’s sake."
You try to take a deep breath, but the cramps intensify, doubling you over in pain. Anton's worry deepens, and he gently guides you to sit on the edge of the bed. "Okay, we need to get you to relax. Let’s do some breathing exercises, alright?"
You nod again, but it’s hard to focus with the pain radiating through your abdomen. Anton sits beside you. "Look at me, love. Breathe with me. In... and out... nice and slow."
You follow his lead, struggling to match his calm, even breaths. The cramps are relentless, each one worse than the last. Panic starts to set in, and you clutch Anton’s hand tightly.
"It hurts so much," you whisper, tears streaming down your face.
Anton’s eyes are full of worry, but he keeps his voice calm. "I know, I know. Just keep breathing. You’ll be okay. I got you."
Minutes feel like hours as you fight to control your breathing, trying to push past the pain. Anton’s unwavering presence is the only thing keeping you grounded. His hand never leaves yours, and his words are a constant source of comfort.
"You’re strong," he murmurs. "Remember how strong you are. You can do this."
Slowly, agonizingly, the cramps begin to ease. Your breathing becomes more even, and the tears subside. Anton’s hand gently strokes your back, soothing you.
"That’s it, love. Just keep breathing."
Finally, the pain diminishes to a manageable level, and you collapse against Anton, utterly spent. He holds you close, his own relief palpable.
"Are you okay?" he asks softly, his lips brushing your forehead.
You nod, still trembling. "I think so. It’s just... the stress of everything. It was too much."
"I know," he says, kissing your temple. "But you have to take care of yourself. Our baby needs you to be strong."
"I’m trying," you whisper, leaning into his embrace. "It’s just so hard."
"I know it is," Anton replies, his voice filled with love and concern. "But we’re in this together. We’ll get through it, one step at a time."
You take a deep breath, feeling a bit more stable with Anton’s arms around you. "Thank you for being here for me."
"Always," he says, his eyes full of reassurance. "Now, let’s rest a bit. You need it."
You both lie down on the bed, and Anton keeps his arms wrapped around you, his presence a comforting anchor. As you lie there, the events of the day replay in your mind, but you push them aside, focusing on the steady rhythm of Anton’s breathing.
After a while, Anton speaks softly. "How about we call your doctor tomorrow, just to be safe?"
You nod, appreciating his thoughtfulness. "That sounds like a good idea."
After what feels like an eternity, you check the time. It’s been an hour. You exchange a glance with Anton, the decision unspoken but mutual. It’s time to take Yechan to the hospital.
You head back to the twins’ room, finding Yechan half-awake. She looks up at you with a mix of fear and resignation. "How are you feeling, sweetheart?" you ask gently, but she doesn’t answer, her eyes glassy and unfocused. Anton checks her fever and finds it’s gotten even higher. He gently shakes her, but she can barely keep her eyes open.
"We need to go to the hospital now," Anton says, his voice firm yet calm. He picks up Yechan in his arms, carrying her bridal style, and races her to the car. You quickly get Chanmi out of bed, her little face crumpling with fear for her sister. Tears spill over as she clings to you.
"It’s okay, sweetie. We’re going to help Yechan get better," you say, trying to soothe her while moving as quickly as you can. You enter Chanwoo’s room and take him out of bed. He wakes up, crying from being pulled from his nap, not understanding what’s happening. You do your best to calm them both as you buckle them into their car seats.
Anton places Yechan in your lap in the back seat, and you hold her close, trying to keep her awake. "Stay with me, baby girl. We’re going to the hospital to make you feel better," you whisper, brushing her hair back from her forehead.
Anton drives with a steady urgency, his eyes flicking to the rearview mirror to check on you and Yechan. As he drives, he calls your parents, asking if they can meet you at the hospital to take Chanmi and Chanwoo.
"We’ll be there as soon as we can," your mom says, her voice filled with concern.
Yechan's breathing is shallow and rapid, and she’s barely responsive, which only heightens your fear. You stroke her cheek, murmuring comforting words, trying to keep your own panic at bay. The drive feels like an eternity, every second stretching out painfully.
Finally, you arrive at the hospital. Anton jumps out and rushes around to help you get Yechan out of the car. A nurse sees you and immediately brings a stretcher. Yechan is placed on it and rushed inside. You try to stay calm for Chanmi and Chanwoo, but the worry is etched deep into your features.
Your parents arrive just as the medical team wheels Yechan away. They quickly gather Chanmi and Chanwoo, who are both crying and frightened. "We’ll take care of them," your mom assures you, her eyes soft with understanding. "Focus on Yechan."
You give Chanmi and Chanwoo quick hugs, promising them that Yechan will be okay, and watch as your parents take them to get some food and comfort.
In the emergency bay, you finally allow yourself to cry. Anton pulls you into his arms, holding you tightly as you sob against his chest. "She’s going to be okay," he whispers, his own voice thick with emotion. "They’ll take care of her."
You nod, clutching his shirt, trying to believe his words. "I should have noticed sooner, Anton. This is all my fault. I should have seen the signs."
"Hey, no," Anton says firmly, pulling back to look at you. "This is not your fault. You’ve been doing everything you can. Kids get sick, sometimes quickly, and there’s nothing you could have done to prevent it."
"But I’m their mother," you say, tears streaming down your face. "I should have known. I should have done more."
"Don’t do that. You’re an amazing mother," Anton says, his voice filled with conviction. "You’ve been taking care of all three of them, and now you’re taking care of Yechan. That’s what matters. We’re here now, doing everything we can."
You take a shaky breath, leaning into his embrace. "I just feel so helpless."
"I know," he murmurs, kissing your forehead. "But she’s getting the help she needs, she’s going to be okay."
Time passes in a blur of anxiety and waiting. Anton never leaves your side. Finally, a doctor approaches, and you both stand up, your hearts pounding. "Mr. and Mrs. Lee?"
"Yes, that’s us," Anton replies, his arm still around you.
The doctor smiles reassuringly. "Yechan is stable now. She has a viral infection, which is causing the high fever and dehydration. We’re treating her with fluids and medication, and she’s responding well."
Tears of relief spill over as you cling to Anton. "Thank you. Can we see her?"
"Of course," the doctor says. "Follow me."
You and Anton follow the doctor to Yechan’s room. She’s lying in a hospital bed, looking small and fragile, but her breathing is steady, and she’s hooked up to an IV and heart monitor. You rush to her side, gently stroking her hair.
"Hey, sweetie," you say softly, trying to keep your voice steady. "Mommy and Daddy are here."
Yechan’s eyes flutter open, and she looks at you with a weak but relieved smile. "Mommy... Daddy..."
Anton kneels beside the bed, taking her hand. "Hey, princess. You’re so brave. The doctors are taking good care of you."
You sit by her side, holding her other hand, feeling a mixture of relief and lingering fear. "We love you so much, Yechan. You’re going to be okay."
As Yechan drifts back to sleep, you lean against Anton, your heart finally starting to unclench. The weight of the morning begins to lift, though the anxiety still lingers. You take a deep breath and glance at Anton, who looks equally exhausted but relieved.
"It's hard to believe we're here," you say softly, breaking the silence. "The first time one of our kids has been hospitalized... I never imagined it would be this overwhelming."
Anton nods, his eyes filled with worry. "I know. Seeing her like this... it's my worst nightmare. I feel so helpless."
You squeeze his hand reassuringly. "But she's strong, remember? And so are we. Everything will be okay."
Just as the room falls into a comforting silence, Anton's phone buzzes loudly, shattering the moment. He fishes it out of his pocket, glancing at the screen. His expression immediately hardens. "It's my manager," he mutters before answering the call. "Hey, what’s going on?"
You watch as his face shifts from concern to anger. "What do you mean, there are articles about us? The kids?" His voice is low but fierce, barely containing his rage. "Are you serious?"
You can hear the faint sound of his manager's voice, rapid and urgent, but not the words. Anton's grip on your hand tightens, his knuckles white. "Do whatever you have to do to take those pictures and articles down," he says through gritted teeth. "I don't care what it takes. Just get it done."
He ends the call, taking a moment to compose himself. His eyes are dark with fury as he looks at you. "Dispatch got pictures of us leaving the house," he explains, his voice tense. "They're already posting articles about our family, speculating about our kids."
Your own anger flares up at his words. "Are you kidding me?" you exclaim, shaking your head in disbelief. "We're dealing with a sick child, and they have nothing better to do than write stupid think pieces about our family?"
Anton nods, his jaw clenched tight. "I can't believe this. We do everything we can to shield our kids from the public. And now this."
You can feel the heat of your anger rising, your frustration boiling over. "It's infuriating," you say, your voice shaking. "We’re just trying to take care of Yechan, and these vultures are sitting behind their screens, writing about things they know nothing about."
"I know," Anton says, his voice filled with a mixture of rage and despair. "We’ve worked so hard to protect them. They don’t deserve this."
You nod, feeling a mix of anger and helplessness. "It's not fair," you say. "We shouldn't have to deal with this on top of everything else. Our children deserve to grow up without this kind of intrusion."
Anton sighs deeply, running a hand through his hair. "I just hate that they’re dragged into this. They didn’t ask for any of it."
You place a hand on his cheek, forcing him to look at you. "Anton, listen to me. This isn't your fault. You can't control your fame or your fans. What matters is that we’re here for our kids. They know they’re loved and protected, and that’s what counts."
He closes his eyes for a moment, leaning into your touch. "Thank you," he whispers. "For always being here, for always understanding."
His phone buzzes again, and he quickly checks the message. "The statement's been posted," he says. "They’re working on getting the pictures taken down."
You nod, still seething but feeling a bit of relief. "Good. It's all we can do right now."
Anton looks at you, his expression softening with guilt. "I'm sorry," he says quietly. "I feel like this is all my fault. If it weren't for my career, none of this would be happening."
You shake your head, pulling him into a tight hug. "It's not your fault, Anton. None of this is your fault. You didn’t post those pictures or write those stupid articles."
He hugs you back, his grip strong. "Thank you," he murmurs. "I just wish things were different."
Before you can respond, the door to Yechan's room opens, and the doctor walks in with a warm smile. "I have good news," he says. "Yechan is responding well to the treatment. She should be cleared to go home in a few hours."
Relief washes over you, and you feel Anton's body relax beside you. "Thank you, doctor," you say, your voice filled with gratitude.
She nods, giving Yechan a gentle pat on the head before leaving the room. You turn to Anton, a smile breaking through the exhaustion on your face. "She's going to be okay," you whisper.
Anton nods, his eyes shining with relief and love. "Yeah, she is," he agrees softly, pulling you close once more. "We’ll all be okay."
As you bask in the moment, the door opens again, and your parents walk in with Chanmi and Chanwoo in tow. Yechan stirs at the commotion, her eyes lighting up when she sees her siblings. "Chanmi! Chanwoo!" she exclaims, her voice still a bit weak but filled with joy.
"Yechan!" the two shout in unison, running to her bedside. "Can we sit with you?" Chanmi asks, her eyes wide with excitement.
Yechan nods enthusiastically. "Yeah, come up."
Anton gently lifts Chanmi and Chanwoo onto the bed, positioning them on either side of Yechan. Chanwoo grins and pushes out a small, brightly colored dino plushie he had been trying to hide behind his small back. "Grandpa bought one for all of us," he says, stumbling a bit over his words. "This one is yours, Yechan."
Yechan laughs, her eyes sparkling. "Thank you, Grandpa!" She takes the plushie and hugs it close. "It looks like daddy!" she giggles, pointing to the plushie's wide grin and height.
Chanmi and Chanwoo burst into giggles, making comparisons between the plushie and Anton. "It does!" Chanmi agrees, clapping her hands.
Chanmi then takes off the headband she had been wearing, one that she had insisted her grandmother buy for her. "Daddy, wear this," she says, holding it out to Anton.
Anton raises an eyebrow but smiles, taking the headband and placing it on his head. "How do I look?" he asks, striking a silly pose.
"You look pretty, Daddy!" Chanmi declares, and the room fills with laughter. Anton reaches out and starts tickling the kids, their giggles echoing around the room. Yechan joins in the laughter, the sound soothing.
You watch the scene unfold, your heart swelling with love. Absentmindedly, you begin to stroke your tummy, hidden beneath your hoodie. The warmth of the moment is almost enough to make you forget the chaos outside this room.
Your mom notices and cuts in with a gentle smile. "Anton is really good with the kids," she comments.
You stop stroking your stomach, reminded that you haven’t shared the news of the new baby with your families yet. "He really is," you agree, your voice filled with affection.
You turn to your parents. "The doctor said Yechan is cleared to go home in a few hours. You don't need to stay."
Your mom nods, giving you a warm hug. "I'll go home and make some food to drop off for you later," she says.
"Thank you, Mom," you say, returning the hug. "That would be wonderful."
Your dad gives you a tight hug too, and then you turn to the kids. "Say goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa," you instruct.
The kids pout, not wanting them to leave, but they obediently give hugs and kisses. "Bye, Grandma! Bye, Grandpa!" they chorus.
Once your parents have left, Chanwoo looks up at Anton with wide hopeful eyes that resemble his father. "Daddy, can we have ice cream now? You promised."
Anton chuckles, remembering his promise from breakfast. "I did promise, didn't I?"
Yechan sits up a bit, her eyes bright. "I want ice cream too!"
You hesitate, not sure if it’s a good idea. "We have to ask the doctor first, Yechan."
Heading to the nurses' station, you explain the situation. The nurse smiles kindly. "As long as she feels up to it and eats slowly, a small treat should be fine."
You thank her and head back to the room.
"We can have ice cream, but you need to eat it slowly, okay?"
The kids cheer, and you and Anton share a relieved smile. Anton calls down to the hospital cafeteria, arranging for three cups of ice cream to be brought up. While waiting, you sit back, watching Anton entertain the kids with stories and jokes.
"Remember the time we went to the zoo?" Anton starts, his voice animated. "And the monkey stole Mommy's headband?"
The kids burst into laughter, the memory clearly a favorite. "And Daddy chased the monkey!" Chanmi adds, giggling.
“And Daddy fall!" Chanwoo finishes, eyes wide with excitement.
You laugh along with them, feeling the day's stress slowly melting away. The ice cream arrives, and you help distribute the cups, making sure Yechan takes her time.
"Thank you, Mommy," she says, her voice soft but happy.
Your heart swells with emotion, and you kiss her forehead. "I'm so glad you're feeling better, sweetheart."
After the kids finish their ice cream, you and Anton clean them up, wiping sticky faces and hands. Anton then pulls out his phone, dialing his parents on FaceTime. "Let's call Grandma and Grandpa so they can see you," he says, positioning the phone so the kids are in view.
As the call connects, Anton's parents appear on the screen, their faces lighting up when they see the children. "Hi, my babies!" Anton's mom exclaims. "We've been so worried about you!"
"Hi, Grandma! Hi, Grandpa!" the kids chorus, waving excitedly.
Anton and you step back a bit, letting the kids have their moment. You can see the relief in Anton's parents' eyes, even through the screen. They had been texting Anton for updates after reading the articles, and now seeing their grandchildren safe and happy brings them comfort.
While the kids chat with their grandparents, the doctor re-enters the room. "Mr. and Mrs. Lee, can I speak with you outside for a moment?"
Your heart skips a beat, and you glance at Anton. He gives you a reassuring nod, and the two of you follow the doctor into the hallway. The doctor turns to face you, her expression serious but calm.
"We ran some additional blood tests on Yechan," she begins. "The results indicate that she's highly anemic. This anemia is likely the reason it took her longer to recover compared to Chanmi."
You feel a pang of worry, but the doctor continues quickly. "The good news is that this can be managed with iron supplements. I'll be referring Yechan to a hematologist for a consultation, but for now, I've prescribed antibiotics and iron pills. She should start feeling better soon with these treatments."
Anton wraps his arm around your shoulders, offering support. "Thank you, doctor," he says. "We appreciate you letting us know."
"Do you have any questions?" the doctor asks.
"Is this something that will affect her long-term?" you ask, your voice tinged with concern.
"It's manageable," the doctor reassures you. "With the right diet and supplements, Yechan should do just fine. The hematologist will provide more detailed guidance."
You and Anton nod, absorbing the information. "Thank you," Anton says again. "We'll make sure she follows through with everything."
The doctor smiles. "The nurse will be by soon with the discharge papers. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask."
You both thank her again and head back into the room. The kids have finished their call and are now playing a game on Anton's phone. Yechan looks up as you enter. "Grandma said she's coming to visit soon!"
Anton isn't shocked; he knows how much his mother adores the kids. "I'm not surprised," he says, smiling. "She loves you all very much."
You and Anton exchange a look, silently agreeing to discuss Yechan's diagnosis more in-depth once you're home. You don't want to alarm the kids any more than necessary.
Soon, a nurse arrives with the discharge papers for you to sign. She also brings stickers and candy for the kids, who eagerly thank her and start trading stickers while munching on their treats.
As the kids are occupied, you and Anton finalize the paperwork. Anton then heads down to the pharmacy to pick up the prescribed medications while you dress Yechan. She giggles as you help her into her clothes, clearly feeling better.
When Anton returns, he scoops Yechan into his arms and holds Chanmi's hand. You carry Chanwoo, who seems content after the long day. Anton doesn't comment on the arrangement; he knows it's well-deserved after what you've all been through.
You make your way to the car, the sky beginning to darken with clouds. Once everyone is buckled into their car seats, Anton starts the car, and you begin the drive home. As you pull out of the parking lot, raindrops start to splatter against the windshield.
"Can we bake cookies and watch movies when we get home?" Chanmi asks from the back seat, her voice filled with hopeful excitement.
You smile and turn to look at her. "Of course, sweetie. That sounds like a perfect idea."
The drive home is peaceful despite the rain, the rhythmic sound of droplets creating a soothing backdrop. You glance over at Anton, whose expression is a mix of relief and exhaustion. He catches your eye and gives you a small, tired smile.
When you arrive home, Anton carries Yechan inside, careful not to jostle her too much. You follow with Chanwoo in your arms, and Chanmi holding your hand. The house feels warm and welcoming after the sterile environment of the hospital.
"We're home," you announce softly, setting Chanwoo down.
"Bath time!" Anton declares, giving the kids a gentle nudge toward the bathroom.
"Do we have to?" Chanmi groans, her face scrunched up in mock dismay.
"Yes, we have to," you say firmly, though with a smile. "We need to wash off all the hospital germs."
Chanwoo perks up, tugging on your sleeve. "Can I have bubbles, Mommy?"
"Of course, sweetie," you reply, pinching his cheeks.
You and Anton guide the kids to the bathroom, where you fill the tub with warm water and plenty of bubbles. The kids' initial reluctance dissolves into giggles as they splash around. Anton kneels by the tub, gently washing Yechan's hair, while you scrub Chanmi and Chanwoo, making sure they're squeaky clean.
"Look at all the bubbles!" Chanmi exclaims, blowing a handful of foam toward Chanwoo, who laughs and tries to catch them.
Yechan smiles, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "This is fun," she says softly, enjoying the attention from her dad.
Once the bath is done, you wrap the kids in fluffy towels and help them into their pajamas. Chanwoo grabs his favorite blanket, clutching it tightly as he heads to the living room.
"Alright, who's ready to bake some cookies?" you ask, clapping your hands together.
"Me! Me!" Chanmi and Chanwoo shout in unison, their earlier tiredness forgotten.
Anton settles Yechan on the couch with a pile of pillows. "You get to pick the movies we watch, okay?" he tells her, handing her the remote.
Yechan nods eagerly, scrolling through the options. "I want something funny," she decides.
"Good choice," Anton says, smiling as he sits next to her.
In the kitchen, you start mixing the cookie dough, with Chanmi and Chanwoo eagerly helping. Chanmi measures out the flour with precision, while Chanwoo enthusiastically stirs the bowl, occasionally sending flour puffing into the air.
"Careful, Chanwoo," you say, laughing as you gently guide his hand. "We want the flour in the bowl, not on the floor."
"Oops, sorry Mommy," Chanwoo giggles, his cheeks dusted with flour.
"No worries, baby boy," you reply, kissing the top of his head.
As you work, you can't help but glance into the living room, where Anton is making Yechan laugh. He's found a silly cartoon, and the sound of their shared laughter fills the house, blending with the kids' chatter in the kitchen.
Once the dough is ready, you help the kids scoop it onto baking sheets. Chanmi is meticulous, ensuring each cookie is just the right size, while Chanwoo plops haphazard mounds onto the tray, his excitement evident.
"Perfect," you say, sliding the trays into the oven. "Now we wait for them to bake."
You clean up the kitchen with Chanmi and Chanwoo's help, their spirits high. "Can I lick the spoon?" Chanwoo asks, his eyes wide with hope.
"Sure," you say, handing him the spoon covered in leftover dough. He happily licks it clean, and Chanmi takes the spatula, scraping off the remaining batter.
As the cookies bake, you set up a cozy spot in the living room with blankets and pillows. The smell of baking cookies fills the house, bringing a sense of normalcy and comfort.
Once the cookies are ready, you bring out a tray, and everyone settles in to watch a movie. Anton sits next to you, his arm around your shoulders. The kids snuggle up with their cookies, their laughter filling the room as the movie plays.
You lean into Anton, feeling a deep sense of contentment. "This is perfect," you whisper, glancing at your kids. Chanmi and Chanwoo are cuddled up next to Yechan, all of them engrossed in the movie.
Anton squeezes your hand. "It really is," he agrees, his voice full of love.
As the movie progresses, you can't help but think about the doctor's news earlier. You glance at Yechan, who is giggling at a particularly funny part of the movie, and your heart aches with both love and worry. You'll have to monitor her anemia closely, but knowing that you have a plan in place brings some comfort.
Your thoughts drift to the baby on the way. You place a gentle hand on your stomach, feeling a flutter of excitement mixed with anxiety. There's so much to prepare for, but moments like this make it all worth it.
The movie eventually ends, and you start to usher the kids to bed. "Time for sleep, my loves," you say, guiding them to their rooms.
"But I want to stay up," Chanwoo protests, yawning despite his words.
"How about we read a story in bed?" you suggest, knowing it will help calm them down.
"Okay," Chanwoo agrees, a sleepy smile spreading across his face.
"Alright, let's get you brushed up and ready for bed, Chanwoo," you say, leading him to the bathroom while Anton helps the twins.
"Can we brush our teeth together?" Chanmi asks, looking up at Anton.
"Sure thing, sweetheart," Anton replies, smiling as he guides the twins to their bedroom.
You head to Chanwoo’s bathroom and carefully brush his teeth, making sure each little tooth is clean. Anton comes in soon after. "All done, buddy," you say, wiping his mouth. "Ready for your story?"
"Yes, Mommy!" Chanwoo says, his eyes lighting up.
You and Anton tuck Chanwoo into bed, and grab his favorite storybook. Anton sits on one side of the bed, and you sit on the other, each of you taking turns reading. Chanwoo listens intently, his eyes drooping as the story progresses. When you reach the end, he’s already fast asleep, his small chest rising and falling steadily.
"Sweet dreams, baby," Anton whispers, giving him a soft kiss on the forehead.
You both quietly exit Chanwoo's room and head to the bathroom where the twins are finishing brushing their teeth. "Ready for your story, girls?" you ask, and they nod eagerly, excitement still in their eyes despite their obvious fatigue.
You lead them to their room, tucking them in snugly. Anton picks out a story, and you both sit beside them, taking turns reading again. Yechan and Chanmi listen with wide eyes, occasionally giggling at the funny parts. By the time the story is over, they're barely keeping their eyes open.
"Goodnight, my sweet girls," you whisper, kissing their foreheads.
"Goodnight, Mommy. Goodnight, Daddy," they murmur sleepily.
You and Anton quietly leave their room, closing the door softly behind you.
"Finally," Anton says with a sigh of relief, wrapping his arms around you. "That was a long day."
"It really was," you agree, leaning into him.
Anton nods, his eyes reflecting the same mixture of exhaustion and contentment that you feel. "Let's get some rest," he suggests, guiding you to your room.
As you lie in bed, you can't help but think about the doctor's news earlier. You glance at the ceiling, your mind racing with thoughts.
"Hey," Anton says softly, sensing your worry. "Everything will fall into place."
You turn to him, finding comfort in his steady gaze. "I know. It's just... a lot to take in."
He nods, understanding. "One step at a time, right?"
"Right," you agree, feeling a bit more at ease.
As you drift off to sleep, you feel grateful for Anton's support and the love that the two of you have crafted over the years. The sound of the rain pattering softly against the windows lulls you into a deep, restful sleep, your heart full of love.

You giggle as you sneak another spoonful of Eunseok's ice cream, your eyes twinkling with mischief. He tries to push you away gently, laughing.
"Hey, get your own!" He giggles. Despite his playful resistance, he relents, offering you another bite. You grin, accepting the spoonful with a delighted hum.
Beomgyu watches the two of you, shaking his head with a grin. "Eunseok, you my friend, are so whipped."
Karina nudges him with her elbow. "Shut up, Beomgyu. They're cute together."
It's a warm evening, and the group of you—Jake, Anton, Beomgyu, Yujin, and Karina—are seated at a booth inside the ice cream parlor, enjoying the summer night. The conversation flows easily, punctuated by laughter and the occasional jibe.
As you savor the stolen bite of Eunseok’s soft serve, your thoughts drift back over the past few months. It's hard to believe it's been three months since you last spoke to Sungchan, the man you imagined marrying. You never thought a world where the two of you didn't speak, let alone didn't get along, could ever exist. But here you are, beginning to accept that maybe your world doesn't have to revolve around Sungchan after all.
These three months have been a period of self-discovery and healing. You’ve spent time figuring out who you are apart from Sungchan. The first few weeks were the hardest. The memories of him were everywhere, and it felt like a part of you was missing. But slowly, you began to find solace in new routines and new friendships. Eunseok and his friends became your anchor. They took you in, and their warmth and kindness made the pain of Sungchan’s absence bearable.
For too long all you ever knew was Sungchan, ending the toxicity that had become your friendship has been doing you good. Karina and Yujin took you under their wing and treated you as a sister, often coming over to your dorm for sleepovers and staying up late to listen to you vent about how hurt you were. Jake, Anton and Jake also became like brothers, for too long you only ever had Sungchan to depend on. It’s so refreshing having other guys in your life who add to it in such a positive way. They don’t leave you in a state of confusion or go out of their way to intentionally hurt you, they constantly love on you and do what they can to make sure you feel that love.
Eunseok, especially, had been your rock. He was always there when the memories got too overwhelming, offering a shoulder to cry on. He made you laugh when the stress of classes was too much and was there to celebrate your small victories. Most importantly, he loved you in a way you wished Sungchan had.
A week ago, Eunseok had asked you out, and without hesitation, you had accepted. Since then, things have been going great. You feel lighter, happier, and more yourself than you have in a long time.
Returning to the present, you smile as Eunseok offers you another bite of his ice cream, his eyes soft with affection. "You know, I think you like my ice cream more than your own," he says, his tone playful.
You shrug, leaning in to accept the spoonful. "Maybe I just like you more," you reply with a wink.
He chuckles and leans in to kiss your cheek, but just as his lips brush your skin, the door to the ice cream parlor opens. Your heart skips a beat as Sungchan walks in, accompanied by Shotaro and Wonbin.
Your eyes meet Sungchan’s, and for a moment, time seems to stand still. Sungchan’s expression is a mix of surprise and something else – a flicker of jealousy. He sees you with Eunseok, the way you’re so comfortable and happy together, and it’s clear that it affects him. His roommate is now the person holding you, the one who makes you smile.
You feel a pang of sadness at the sight of Sungchan. You were once so close, but now you’re strangers. The realization of how much has changed is bittersweet. Yet, beneath the sadness, there is a sense of satisfaction.
Sungchan and his friends approach the counter to order, and you can’t help but steal glances in his direction. It’s strange to see him like this, to be so close yet feel so distant. Part of you wants to go over and talk to him, to bridge the gap that’s grown between you. But another part of you feels smug, enjoying the way Eunseok holds you and the way Sungchan seems to react to it.
“Do you want to go somewhere else?” Eunseok asks quietly, noticing your distraction.
You shake your head. “No, I’m okay. Let’s stay.”
He nods and squeezes your hand, giving you a reassuring smile. Your group continues their light-hearted banter, trying to maintain the cheerful atmosphere despite the tension that has entered the room.
You can’t help but feel a mix of emotions. Seeing Sungchan again stirs up old memories and feelings, but you also feel a sense of pride in your new relationship. Eunseok has been everything you needed and more, and you’re grateful for his unwavering support and love.
Sungchan and his friends walk over to your group, their expressions casual but their presence adding a palpable tension. Anton looks up, a forced smile on his face as he greets them. "Hey, Sungchan, Shotaro, Wonbin."
"Hey, Anton," Sungchan replies, his eyes flickering towards you and Eunseok before quickly looking away.
The rest of your friends exchange wary glances, not particularly pleased to see Sungchan and his entourage. However, they tolerate his presence due to Anton's connection with him through the swim team. Anton shifts uncomfortably before reluctantly asking, "Do you guys want to join us?"
Eunseok’s grip on you tightens slightly, his protective side showing. You can feel his unease, and you lean into him, offering silent support. Sungchan and his friends agree, pulling up chairs to join your booth. The atmosphere shifts, becoming awkward and tense.
Sungchan attempts to break the silence with small talk. "So, how’s everyone been?"
Karina doesn’t hide her disdain, her tone sharp. "Better, now that we don’t have any toxic people around."
Jake snickers at her comment, leaning back in his chair. "Play nice, Karina."
Sungchan brushes off the remark, forcing a smile. "It’s good to see you too, Karina."
The tension is almost tangible as you all sit together, the easy camaraderie from earlier now strained. Wonbin, trying to lighten the mood, chimes in, "Hey, we were thinking of going to a rave tonight. You guys interested?"
Your friends exchange uncertain looks. They seem reluctant, knowing that you and Eunseok might not be keen on the idea, especially with Sungchan present. Eunseok speaks up, his voice calm but firm. "Actually, we have plans for tonight. We’re going on a date."
Sungchan’s eyes flicker with a mixture of emotions – jealousy, regret, and something else you can’t quite place. He stares at you and Eunseok, his discomfort evident. The group remains silent for a moment before Beomgyu breaks it, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Will Yuri be there?"
Sungchan’s expression hardens slightly. "No, we’ve broken up, so I doubt it."
You and Eunseok share a look but don’t comment. The dynamics of your friend group have shifted so much in the past months, and seeing Sungchan now feels like looking at a stranger. Despite the tension, there’s a sense of closure in knowing you’ve moved on to something healthier and more fulfilling.
Eunseok glances at his watch, then at you. "We should probably get going. We have to head to the trampoline park."
The mention of your date brings a soft smile to your lips. "Yeah, we don’t want to be late."
Sungchan’s gaze lingers on you both, his jealousy more palpable now. He opens his mouth as if to say something but then closes it, swallowing his words. Anton tries to lighten the mood one last time. "Have fun, you two."
You and Eunseok gather your things, saying your goodbyes to the group. As you stand up to leave, Eunseok’s hand finds yours, his touch reassuring. You cast one last glance at Sungchan, noting the mix of emotions on his face – a stark contrast to the happiness you feel with Eunseok.
Outside, the sun is still blazing, but the air feels lighter. Eunseok looks at you, his eyes full of warmth and affection. "Are you okay?"
You nod, squeezing his hand. "I’m more than okay. I’m with you."
As you walk towards the trampoline park, the memories of Sungchan fade into the background. What matters now is the present – the love and happiness you’ve found with Eunseok and the new friendships that have become a significant part of your life.
When you arrive at the trampoline park, it’s a kaleidoscope of colors and motion, filled with laughter and the sound of bouncing springs. As you and Eunseok enter, you can’t help but feel a surge of excitement. He gives your hand a gentle squeeze, his smile infectious.
“You ready to jump?” he asks, his eyes twinkling.
You nod eagerly. “Absolutely.”
Eunseok pays for both your entrance fees and leads you towards the cubbies meant for your personal items. The two of you kick off your shoes and step onto the trampolines, the soft mats beneath your feet making you feel like you’re walking on clouds. With a playful grin, Eunseok starts bouncing, his movements light and effortless. You follow suit, giggling as you try to match his rhythm.
“Bet you can’t catch me!” you call out, jumping higher and moving to another trampoline.
“Oh, you’re on!” he replies, laughter bubbling up as he chases after you.
You both jump from one trampoline to the next, the exhilaration making your heart race. At one point, Eunseok reaches out and catches your hand, pulling you close as you both bounce together. The world around you blurs into a joyful whirlwind, and all you can focus on is the warmth of his hand in yours and the sound of his laughter.
After a while, you both decide to take a break. You find a spot to sit on the edge of the trampoline area, still holding hands. Your cheeks are flushed from the exercise and laughter, and you feel more alive than you have in a long time.
Eunseok looks at you, his expression softening. “This is fun. I’m glad we came here.”
“Me too,” you reply, leaning your head against his shoulder.
He hesitates for a moment, then takes a deep breath. “So, um… Sungchan.”
You tense slightly, but you knew this topic would come up sooner or later. You lift your head to meet his gaze, waiting for him to continue.
“His breakup with Yuri…” Eunseok says quietly. “I just… I want to make sure you’re okay. I know it’s a lot to process, and I don’t want you to feel pressured or anything.”
You smile gently, appreciating his concern. “Eunseok, this doesn’t change anything for me. Sungchan and I… we had our time, and it’s over. I’m with you now, and I’m really happy with you. I want to build something new with you, not dwell on the past.”
Relief washes over Eunseok’s face, and he pulls you into a hug. “I’m so glad to hear that,” he murmurs into your hair. “You mean a lot to me, and I just want you to be happy.”
You pull back slightly, looking into his eyes. “Thank you, Eunseok. For everything. I don’t think I’ve said it enough these past three months, but thank you for being there for me. I don’t know what I would’ve done without you.”
His smile is warm and tender. “You don’t have to thank me. I care about you a lot, and I’ll always be here for you. No matter what.”
You feel a swell of emotion, and you lean in to kiss him softly. It’s a sweet, lingering kiss, full of promise and affection. When you pull away, you see nothing but love and happiness in his eyes.
“Let’s keep jumping,” you say with a grin, wanting to prolong this perfect moment.
Eunseok laughs and helps you to your feet. “Let’s do it.”
Hand in hand, you return to the trampolines, ready to lose yourselves in the joy of the present. The memories of Sungchan continue to fade into the background, replaced by the bright, new memories you’re creating with Eunseok.
Tumblr media
The sun is high in the sky, casting a warm glow over Anton’s sprawling backyard. His house, the largest in your friend group, is the perfect setting for a summer pool party. The smell of barbecue wafts through the air, mingling with the sounds of laughter and splashing water.
You’re lying on a lounger, soaking up the sun with your eyes closed, enjoying the warmth on your skin. You can hear the cheerful chatter of your friends, the occasional burst of laughter, and the rhythmic splashes from the pool. Anton, ever the host, approaches, casting a shadow over you.
"Hey, are you just going to tan all day, or are you actually going to get in the pool?" Anton asks, grinning down at you.
You snort, opening one eye to look up at him. "No way. I just got my hair done."
Anton shakes his head, chuckling. "Loser," he teases before wandering off to join his swim team friends.
You laugh, watching him go. Anton’s always been the life of the party, effortlessly moving between groups and making everyone feel included. Your attention shifts as Eunseok emerges from the pool, water dripping from his hair and glistening on his toned body. He takes a seat beside you, leaning in to kiss you. You blush but indulge him, savoring the taste of his lips.
Ever since your first kiss at the trampoline park a week ago, the two of you haven’t been able to keep your hands off each other. It’s a constant source of amusement—and occasional irritation—for your friends.
"Seriously? Again?" Jake shouts in complaint from the pool, his voice dripping with mock indignation. "Get a room!"
Eunseok flips him off without breaking the kiss, making you giggle. He finally pulls back, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Come on, let’s get something to eat."
He takes your hand, helping you up from the lounger. As you walk towards the house, Beomgyu and Jake make exaggerated gagging noises.
"Anton, you better clean the sheets before your parents come back!" Beomgyu calls out, laughing.
"Use protection!" Jake adds, his tone playful.
Eunseok laughs and flips off the pair, yelling over his shoulder, “fuck off!”
Yujin, ever the voice of reason, rolls her eyes at them. "Will you two grow up and find someone to lay you so you can stop riding, ____’s dick."
Inside the house, the air is cooler, a welcome relief from the heat outside. You make your way to the kitchen, where a large fruit platter awaits. Sohee, your new friend from organic chemistry, is there, arranging more food. You’d convinced Anton to invite him, thinking he’d fit in well with the group. He greets the two of you as Eunseok starts plating different food for you. Sohee lets you know he’s going out to join Anton by the pool before waving goodbye.
Eunseok picks up a piece of fruit and holds it out to you. "Here, try this."
You take a bite, savoring the sweetness. "Mmm, it’s good."
He grins and leans in, kissing you right after you swallow the pineapple. The kiss deepens quickly, and before you know it, Eunseok has you cornered against the counter, his hands roaming your body as your mouths move together in a passionate dance.
Just then, Sungchan walks in, looking for a beer. He scoffs at the sight of you and Eunseok, causing you to pull away abruptly. Eunseok places himself protectively in front of you, not wanting Sungchan to see you in your bathing suit.
"People eat in here, you know," Sungchan sneers. "You’re disgusting."
Embarrassed, you start to apologize, but Eunseok cuts you off. "Just get your beer and go, Sungchan. No need to be rude."
Sungchan doesn’t move, his eyes narrowing. He’s clearly a little tipsy and looking for a fight. You can sense the tension building and decide it’s best to defuse the situation. You tug on Eunseok’s arm. "Come on, let’s go. It’s not worth it."
Eunseok reluctantly allows you to pull him away, his eyes still locked on Sungchan. Once you’re back outside, the lively atmosphere of the pool party helps you forget the encounter. Your friends are laughing and playing games, completely oblivious to the brief confrontation inside.
Beomgyu spots you and waves you over. "Hey, come join us!"
You and Eunseok make your way to the poolside, rejoining the group. Anton is in the middle of a cannonball competition with Jake, their playful rivalry adding to the festive mood. You take a seat on the edge of the pool, dipping your feet into the cool water.
"So, what did you guys find to eat?" Karina asks, lounging on a float nearby.
"Just some fruit and maybe each other's faces," you reply, smiling smugly. "But we were rudely interrupted."
Eunseok chuckles, wrapping an arm around your shoulders.
"Forget about him," Yujin says, rolling her eyes. "He’s just jealous."
"Yeah, probably," you agree, feeling the weight of Sungchan’s gaze still lingering in your mind. "But let’s not let him ruin our fun."
The group continues to enjoy the party, the earlier tension fading away. You watch as Eunseok dives back into the pool, joining Anton and Jake in their antics. His laughter is infectious, and you find yourself smiling, feeling grateful for the new friends and love in your life.
Eunseok soon comes out of the water and comes over to wrap a towel around your shoulders, the fabric warm and comforting against your skin. "You looked a little cold," he says softly, his hand lingering on your shoulder.
"Thanks," you reply, snuggling into the towel. The two of you sit in a comfortable silence for a moment, watching the sky's colors shift from vibrant orange to a soft purple as the sun sets.
"I wanted to tell you something," Eunseok begins, his voice hesitant. "I'm moving in with Jake and Beomgyu next month for the new school year."
You blink, taken aback by the news. "What? Really?" You knew Sungchan and Eunseok's friendship had become strained the more Sungchan mistreated you, but you never thought Eunseok would leave their apartment.
Eunseok sighs, running a hand through his damp hair. "Yeah. There's no reason to stay. Sungchan's been a dick to me ever since you two stopped being friends, and I'm over it. I can't keep babying him to get him to say why he's so pissed at me."
You place a hand on his arm, offering a reassuring squeeze. "You never did anything to him, Eunseok. He's the one who's been unfair."
He smiles at you, his eyes softening. "Thanks for understanding. It means a lot."
"If you need help moving out, just shoot me a text," you offer, trying to lighten the mood.
Eunseok chuckles, his mood lifting a bit. "If you came to help, we probably wouldn't be moving things. We'd be making out."
You laugh, feeling the tension ease. "You're probably right." You stand up, brushing the sand off your legs. "I'm gonna use the bathroom, and then we can head out."
As you roam the halls of Anton's large home, you hear faint mumbling and the sound of stumbling footsteps. You turn a corner and see Sungchan, very drunk and barely able to stand. He mumbles to himself, his eyes unfocused.
You hesitate, debating whether to help him or not. Against your better judgment, you approach him. "Sungchan, are you okay?"
He looks at you, his eyes watery and confused. "I'm... I'm fine," he slurs, but then he nearly falls over.
You catch him just in time, steadying him. "Come on, let's get you to a bedroom." You guide him to the nearest room, setting him down on the bed. He clings to you, his tears flowing freely.
"I miss you," he cries, his voice broken. "I'm so sorry. I'm an idiot. I shouldn't have put Yuri first. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
You try to calm him down, patting his back gently. "It's okay, Sungchan. I'm over it."
He shakes his head, his grip tightening. "No, you're not. I know you. You're still hurt, and I'm sorry."
You nod, feeling anxious with how unconsolable he is. "Okay, all is forgiven."
He pauses, his sobs quieting for a moment. "Will you be at my birthday? You've never missed one."
You feel as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped on you. You had completely forgotten about Sungchan's birthday. You glance at a calendar in the room and see that it's August 24th. His birthday is in a little over two weeks.
Lost in your thoughts, you struggle to understand how you forgot something that used to mean so much to you. You also take a moment to acknowledge that he's drunk and might not actually want you at the party. But at the same time, you realize that if you don't go, it might really signify the end of your friendship.
"I'll think about it," you finally say.
Sungchan looks at you, his eyes filled with regret. "I envy Eunseok."
You're confused. "Why?"
He sighs, his voice barely above a whisper. "Because he had the balls to do what I was always too scared to do."
Your heart races, shock and anger flooding your system. Sungchan starts to lean in as if to kiss you, but then the door swings open, and Eunseok walks in.
"Eunseok!" you exclaim, scooting back quickly.
Eunseok's eyes darken as he takes in the scene. "What's going on?" he asks, his voice tense. He strides over, grabbing Sungchan by the collar of his shirt.
"Nothing happened," you say quickly, stepping between them. "He's drunk."
Eunseok looks at you, his jaw clenched, and then back at Sungchan. After a tense moment, he lets go, taking a step back. "Let's get out of here," he says, his voice tight.
You nod, taking Eunseok's hand and leading him out of the room, leaving Sungchan behind. As you walk down the hallway, you can feel the anger radiating off of Eunseok.
"I'm sorry," you whisper, squeezing his hand.
"It's not your fault," he replies, his voice softening. "Let's just go."
As you step outside, the cool night air hits you, and you take a deep breath, trying to calm your racing heart and mind. Eunseok pulls you close, wrapping an arm around you protectively.
"I don't feel comfortable with Sungchan around you," he admits, his voice low and tense.
You stop walking and turn to face him, holding his gaze. "Nothing happened, Eunseok. He’s drunk and upset. I just helped him because I felt bad seeing him like that."
Eunseok's eyes search yours, his frustration evident. "Then why was he leaning in to kiss you?"
You hesitate, the words you shared with Sungchan replaying in your mind. "I... I don’t know," you finally say, averting your eyes.
Eunseok's expression tightens, a mix of hurt and anger flashing across his face. "You don't know?"
Silence hangs heavy between you, the tension almost palpable. "Whatever," he mutters, turning away. "Let's just go."
The drive to your dorm is tense and awkward, the silence thick with unspoken words. You glance over at Eunseok, his knuckles white as he grips the steering wheel. Your mind drifts back to the conversation with Sungchan, replaying his drunken confession and how upset you were by it.
How dare he say he envies Eunseok? This is the same Sungchan who told you that your feelings for him disgusted him, who pushed you away and left you heartbroken. Now he’s jealous that Eunseok had the courage to be honest about his emotions? It's complete bull, and the more you think about it, the angrier you become.
You try to shake off the thoughts, but they cling to you like a shadow. The car ride stretches on, the silence deafening. You steal glances at Eunseok, wanting to say something, anything, to break the tension, but the words won’t come.
When you finally reach your dorm for the summer, the weight of the evening presses down on you. Eunseok parks the car and gets out, walking you to your door like he always does. The silence between you feels almost unbearable.
"Eunseok," you start, reaching for his hand, but he pulls away, his frustration evident.
"I just need some space right now," he says, his voice strained.
Fear grips your heart. "Are you... are you breaking up with me?”
His expression softens slightly, and he shakes his head. "No, I’m not breaking up with you. I'm still very much into you and our relationship. But it's clear you're hiding something, and until you’re ready to be honest with me, I need some space."
Tears well up in your eyes as he steps closer, placing a gentle kiss on your forehead. "Make sure you eat something before going to bed," he murmurs, his voice softer now. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight," you whisper back, watching as he turns and walks away.
You enter your dorm, the silence of the empty room echoing the silence that had filled the car. You collapse onto your bed, the events of the night swirling in your mind.
As you lie there, you realize that despite everything, you need to be honest with Eunseok. He deserves to know the truth, even if it’s painful. But for now, you need to process everything that happened and figure out how to tell him.
You curl up on your bed, feeling the emptiness of the room around you. The conversation with Sungchan plays over and over in your mind, his tearful apologies, his regrets, and his jealousy of Eunseok. It all feels so surreal, like a bad dream you can’t wake up from.
Eventually, exhaustion takes over, and you drift off to sleep, hoping that tomorrow will bring some clarity and a chance to make things right.
Tumblr media
The following morning you wake up to a ding from your phone. You groggily reach for the device and see a string of text messages from Eunseok. Your heart skips a beat as you open the first one.
[seokie 🪨]: I'm sorry
[seokie🪨]: I fully trust you. If you say nothing happened, then nothing happened.
Relief washes over you as you read the third message.
[seokie🪨]: Are we okay?
You feel a mix of relief and guilt. He's not mad, but you still haven't been completely honest with him. You quickly type a response, your fingers trembling slightly.
[you]: we're good. can i come over?
His reply is almost immediate.
[seokie🪨]: Of course. Do you want me to pick you up?
You smile, shaking your head as you respond.
[you]: no need, i'll walk it's not far
You get ready, feeling a mixture of anticipation and nervousness. When you arrive at his place, Eunseok greets you with a kiss, his touch warm and reassuring.
"I have a surprise for you," he says, a mischievous glint in his eye.
Curiosity piqued, you follow him into the kitchen, where you're met with an array of baking items laid out on the counter. Your heart swells with emotion, remembering how you once told him about your love for baking to ease stress.
"You remembered," you say, touched. You wrap your arms around him, hugging him tightly. "Thank you, thank you, thank you," you repeat, kissing him.
Eunseok smiles, his eyes twinkling. "I know you already forgave me, but I wanted to do something nice for you anyway."
The two of you start baking a cake, following a recipe Eunseok had found. You're impressed by his dedication to measuring out the exact portions, his concentration making you smile.
"Where did you find this recipe?" you ask, amused by his precision.
"Pinterest," he replies, grinning. "Seemed like a good one."
Once everything is mixed and the cake is in the oven, you sit on the counter and Eunseok steps between your legs, his hands resting on your hips.
"Where do you see our relationship going?" he asks, his voice soft but serious. "I know it's early, but I really like you."
You look into his eyes, feeling the sincerity in his words. "I like you too, Eunseok. I see us going far. I want to keep exploring this."
He smiles, relieved. "What about your living situation next semester? Are you still moving in with Yujin and Karina?"
You nod. "Yeah, I am. It'll be nice to have some independence and be with friends."
Eunseok leans in closer, his breath warm against your skin. "I'm glad. I want you to be happy."
You smile, feeling a playful urge. "Speaking of happy," you say, grabbing a handful of flour and tossing it at him.
Eunseok laughs, grabbing some flour and tossing it back at you. A full-blown flour fight ensues, both of you laughing and dodging each other's attacks. You relent when you see you're losing, flour and batter everywhere.
Eunseok takes your hand. "Let's get cleaned up."
He leads you to his bedroom, and you start to undress. He begins to leave to give you privacy, but you catch his arm.
"Join me?" you ask, your voice soft and inviting.
He hesitates for a moment, then nods, a smile playing on his lips. You take his hand and walk into the bathroom, you get into the shower first and look at him, completely vulnerable as he stares at your naked body.
He’s quick to strip and then steps into the shower with you, pressing you against the wall, his mouth already on yours. A wanton moan leaves your lips when he slides his hands down your sides as he tilts his head to the side and deepens the kiss. He places a hand on your right breast playing with it, he lightly pinches and rolls your nipple between his thumb and pointer finger.
You moan against his mouth which causes him to smirk before pulling away and angling his head down until his lips wrapped around your right nipple, which he had neglected before, sucking gently. His tongue swirls around the flesh and his teeth graze over your nipple.
“Please don’t stop.” You breathily whine, caught up in the feeling of your boyfriend sending you over the edge.
He slowly pulls away from your chest and places one last kiss on your lips. “We don’t want our cake to burn.”
He steps away from you completely and gets to work on lathering your body with his wash. You lift your eyes to look at him but he doesn’t return your gaze and continues to wash your body. You pout deeply and reach out to grab his hand to place back on your breast.
“Seok please!”
Eunseok remains expressionless for a few seconds until a small smile creeps up his face. His hand roughly squeezes the breast it’s resting on before he snakes his way up your body again and you think it’s to hold you steady by your shoulder, but you gasp when he seizes his large hand over your throat.
“Eun—”
He squeezes your neck and you moan, hands flying to grab his wrist. “Don’t be a brat.”
He gives you one more warning squeeze before pulling his hand away from your neck. Feeling dejected and slightly annoyed you stand still and let him finish bathing you.
Once he finishes rinsing the soap off your body and washing down his own body and hair, the two of you exit the bathroom. Eunseok dresses you in one of his shirts and a pair of sweats. "You look good in my clothes," he teases, kissing your forehead.
"Is Sungchan home?" you ask, suddenly remembering the previous night's tension.
"No," Eunseok replies, shaking his head. "He went out with friends."
You feel a bit more at ease as you head back to the kitchen to decorate the cake. Despite your best efforts, it turns out looking a bit discombobulated, but the laughter and fun make it worth it.
"At least it tastes good," you say, taking a bite and grinning.
Eunseok laughs, nodding. "We tried."
He grabs some boxed wine, and the two of you sit on the couch. You take a deep breath, deciding to finally be honest with him.
"About last night," you start, your voice trembling slightly. "Sungchan was really drunk. He... he told me he misses me and that he's sorry. He said he envies you because you had the courage to do what he couldn't."
Eunseok's expression darkens, but he nods for you to continue. "How do you feel about all this?"
"Angry," you admit, tears pricking at your eyes. "He told me my feelings for him disgusted him, and now he's jealous?"
Eunseok sighs, running a hand through his hair. "Are you going to his birthday party?"
You hesitate, unsure how to respond. "I feel like I should," you finally say. "For closure."
Eunseok's jaw tightens. "I would prefer if you didn't."
You frown, frustration bubbling up. "I have to go, Eunseok. We were friends for years. I need to hear him out."
He shakes his head, his frustration evident. "You don't have to do anything. You want to go, and I wish you could be honest about that."
Your eyes narrow, feeling a surge of anger. "We’ve been friends for years, I can’t just act like he means nothing just because a few months have passed!”
Eunseok's eyes flash with frustration. "A few months? He treated you like crap, and now you're willing to just forgive him because he’s drunk and feeling sorry for himself?"
You stand up, pacing the room. "It's not about forgiving him, Eunseok. It's about closure. I need to understand why he did what he did."
"Why do you need closure from someone who hurt you so badly?" Eunseok snaps, standing up as well. "He had his chance, and he blew it."
You turn to face him, your own anger rising. "You don't understand. He was my best friend. I need to at least try to get some answers."
Eunseok takes a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "And what if he tries to pull something again? What if he says more things to mess with your head?"
"I can handle it," you insist. "I need to do this for myself."
He shakes his head, his expression a mix of anger and hurt. "You’re not listening to me. I'm telling you this isn't a good idea."
"And I'm telling you that I have to go," you say, your voice firm.
Eunseok's face hardens. "Fine. Do what you want. But don't expect me to be okay with it."
"Why can't you support me on this?" you plead, feeling a knot of frustration and desperation tighten in your chest.
"Because I care about you!" he shouts, his voice echoing in the small space. "I don't want to see you get hurt again."
You feel tears welling up, but you blink them back. "I care about you too, but this is something I need to do."
Eunseok clenches his fists, his knuckles turning white. "Then go. But don't expect me to be waiting here with open arms."
You stand there for a moment, the weight of his words sinking in. "I didn't think you'd be so controlling," you whisper, hurt evident in your voice.
His eyes widen with a mix of shock and anger. "Controlling? I'm trying to protect you!"
"I don't need protection from you," you snap back. "I need understanding."
Eunseok glares at you, his jaw tight. "Well, I guess we’re at an impasse."
"Yeah," you agree, your voice shaky. "I guess we are."
Without another word, you grab your things and head for the door. Eunseok doesn’t stop you, and the silence is deafening as you walk away. Just as you’re about to step out, you hear him mutter something under his breath, but you can’t make it out.
You leave, feeling a mix of anger and sadness. You wanted today to be a step towards healing, but now it feels like everything is falling apart.
Eunseok watches you go, his heart heavy with frustration and regret. He grabs the boxed wine, takes a long drink, and slams it down on the coffee table, the anger simmering just beneath the surface.

You storm into Sohee's dorm room, your anger radiating off you in waves. "Can you believe that? He thinks he owns me or something!"
Sohee looks up from his desk, concern etched across his face. "What happened?" he asks, motioning for you to sit down.
You start pacing instead, the words spilling out in a rush. "Eunseok and I had this huge argument. He doesn’t want me to go to Sungchan’s birthday party. I told him I need closure, but he’s acting like I’m betraying him or something."
Sohee listens intently, his brow furrowing as he takes in your words. When you finally stop to catch your breath, he leans back in his chair, considering his response carefully. "Okay, let's break this down. Eunseok is your boyfriend now, right? So, naturally, he's going to be protective."
You scoff, crossing your arms. "Protective? It feels more like he’s being controlling. He doesn’t get to tell me what to do."
Sohee shakes his head. "It's not that simple. Eunseok was just looking out for you. It’s not wrong for him to be upset about you wanting to go see Sungchan—the very guy who hurt you. Put yourself in his shoes. How would you feel if he wanted to hang out with an ex who hurt him?"
You pause, the anger starting to ebb as you think about it. "I... I guess I’d feel pretty insecure."
"Exactly," Sohee says, leaning forward. "You’re dating Eunseok now. Of course, it won’t make him happy to see his girlfriend run into the arms of the man she loved for years, especially now that Sungchan is saying those feelings are returned."
Your shoulders slump, and you let out a sigh. "I didn’t think about it like that. I just... I need closure. I need to understand why Sungchan did what he did."
Sohee gives you a sympathetic look. "I get that. But if you really feel like going to Sungchan’s party is the only way you can move on, then maybe you shouldn’t be dating Eunseok right now. It’s clear you have more things to work through."
"That’s not fair," you protest, tears pricking at your eyes. "I really love Eunseok, but I need to know why Sungchan chose to hurt me that way."
"So ask him," Sohee says gently. "There’s no need to feed into something Sungchan wants. Just ask him directly. That way, you get the answers you need without disrespecting your relationship with Eunseok."
You sit down, the weight of Sohee’s words settling over you. "You’re right. I should just ask him."
Sohee smiles, giving you a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "You can do this. And remember, Eunseok loves you. He’s just trying to protect you."
Feeling more resolved, you pull out your phone and text Sungchan.
[you]: hey, are you free? i need to talk to you
You send the message and take a deep breath, hoping this will help you find the closure you need without jeopardizing your relationship with Eunseok. Sohee watches you, a supportive presence in the midst of your turmoil. "Good luck," he says softly. "I know it’s not easy, but you’ll get through this."
You nod, feeling a sense of relief wash over you. "Thanks, Sohee. I really needed to hear that."
"Anytime," he replies with a warm smile. "Just remember, you’re not alone in this. You’ve got people who care about you."
You nod, feeling a bit lighter. "I know. And I’m going to make things right with Eunseok."
"That’s the spirit," Sohee says, giving you an encouraging thumbs-up. "Go get 'em."
You and Sohee continue to chat, your conversation shifting to lighter topics as you unwind from the emotional turmoil of the past few days. As you talk about your plans for the upcoming semester and some of the fun things you’ve got planned with your friends, your phone buzzes with a notification. It’s a message from Sungchan.
[sungchan]: i'm free tomorrow
[sungchan]: how about we meet at 3?
You glance at Sohee, who raises an eyebrow in question. "Sungchan says he’s free tomorrow at 3. I guess it’s happening."
Sohee nods. "Good. Get it out of the way so you can move forward."
You quickly type back a reply, agreeing to meet Sungchan at the boba shop near campus. "It’s set," you say, feeling a mix of relief and nervousness. "I’m meeting him tomorrow."
Sohee gives you a reassuring nod. "You'll do fine. Just stay honest and keep your cool."
You smile, grateful for his support. "Thanks, Sohee. By the way, do you think you could help me pick out a gift for him?"
Sohee looks surprised. "A gift? For Sungchan? Why?"
"It’s a parting gift," you explain, your voice soft. "Something to signify the end of our friendship, in a way. I just want to leave things on a good note."
Sohee sighs but eventually nods. "Alright. I get it. Let’s go to Target and see what we can find."
The two of you head to Target, wandering through the aisles as you think about what to get Sungchan. You want it to be something meaningful, something that represents your time together. As you pass the toy section, your eyes land on a LEGO set, and a memory from your childhood flashes before you.
"This is perfect," you say, picking up the box.
Sohee looks at it curiously. "A LEGO set? What’s the importance behind it?"
"It was the first one we built together," you explain, your voice tinged with nostalgia. "The first time I ever went to his house. It seems like a fitting end for us."
Sohee nods, understanding. "That’s a good idea. It’s personal and meaningful."
You also grab a card, planning to write Sungchan a note to go along with the gift. As you make your way to the checkout, Sohee gives you an encouraging smile. "You’re doing the right thing."
"I hope so," you reply, feeling a mix of emotions. "I just want closure."
After paying for the LEGO set and the card, you and Sohee leave Target and decide to get some food together. Sitting in a cozy corner of a small café, you talk about everything and nothing, trying to keep your mind off the upcoming meeting with Sungchan.
"So, are you nervous about tomorrow?" Sohee asks, sipping his coffee.
"A little," you admit, stirring your drink absentmindedly. "But I think it’ll be good for me. I need to understand why he hurt me the way he did."
Sohee nods thoughtfully. "Just remember to stay calm. Don’t let him get under your skin. You’re doing this for you, not for him."
"Yeah," you agree. "Thanks, Sohee. For everything."
"Anytime," he says with a grin. "That’s what friends are for."
You spend the rest of the afternoon chatting and laughing, the heavy weight of your worries lifting slightly with each passing moment. By the time you part ways, you feel a bit more prepared for the conversation with Sungchan.
___
The next day arrives, and you find yourself standing outside the boba shop, clutching the bag with Sungchan’s gift inside. Taking a deep breath, you push open the door and step inside.
Sungchan is already seated at a corner table, looking pensive. When he sees you, he gives a small, hesitant smile. You walk over and sit down across from him, setting the bag on the table.
"Hey," you say softly.
"Hey," he replies, his eyes darting to the bag. "What’s that?"
"It’s a gift," you say, pushing it towards him. "Happy early birthday."
He looks surprised but takes the bag, pulling out the LEGO set. His eyes widen in recognition, and a sad smile forms on his lips. "I remember this. The first one we built together."
"Yeah," you say, feeling a lump form in your throat. "I thought it was a good way to say goodbye."
"Goodbye?" Sungchan's eyes widen in surprise.
You nod, your expression serious. "What you did those three months ago wasn’t fair, and what you pulled at the party most definitely wasn’t okay. I’m only here to hear you explain yourself so I can move on. Eunseok has been good to me, and he doesn’t deserve me half-assing our relationship."
Sungchan nods, looking down at the table. "I meant what I said at Anton’s. I am sorry for pushing you away."
You shut it down, your voice firm. "I don’t want an apology or any excuses, Sungchan. I want an explanation."
He clears his throat, his voice shaky. "I started crushing on you when we were in high school, but I didn’t say anything because I was scared I would mess things up."
You cut in, your tone sharp. "Oh, so leading me on for years was the better option?"
"No," Sungchan says, shaking his head. "It was cruel, and I should have just been honest, but I didn’t want to lose my best friend. I thought if I told you how I felt and it didn’t work out, I would have lost you for no reason. But if I gave you the hope we could be something, at least you would stick around."
Your heart aches, feeling betrayed. "Was it worth it? Because you’ve lost me anyway."
He looks down, his face full of regret. "No, it wasn’t worth it. I’m sorry."
You shrug off his apology, determined to get to the bottom of things. "And what about Yuri? Why date Yuri if you apparently like me?"
He sighs, rubbing the back of his neck. "I thought it was time to move on. I didn’t have the guts to be honest after all these years, so why keep leading you on? When you and Eunseok started dating, it made me angry. It took Eunseok a week to do something I’d been dreaming of for years. It’s not right, and I’m not trying to excuse it, but that’s why I did it."
Your anger flares. "You think that justifies anything? You hurt me, Sungchan. You made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. And then you have the nerve to act jealous when I finally find someone who cares about me?"
He looks up, his eyes filled with remorse. "I know I was wrong. I was selfish and scared, and I took it out on you. I’m truly sorry."
You shake your head, tears of frustration and betrayal welling up. "I trusted you. I thought you were my friend. But you were just playing me for years."
"No," he protests weakly. "I wasn’t playing you. I cared about you. I still do."
"It doesn’t matter," you say, your voice breaking. "You were never my friend. A real friend wouldn’t have done what you did. And I’m fine with us no longer being in each other’s lives."
Silence falls between you, heavy and suffocating. Sungchan looks like he wants to say something, but you’ve heard enough. You stand up, your heart aching but resolute.
"Goodbye, Sungchan," you say, your voice firm.
He looks up at you, his eyes filled with regret. "Goodbye."
You turn and walk out of the boba shop, your heart pounding in your chest. The weight of the past few months feels heavy on your shoulders, but with each step, you feel a little bit lighter. You know it’ll take time to heal, but you’ve taken the first step towards moving on.
As you walk back to your place, you think about Eunseok and how much he means to you. You know you need to make things right with him, to show him that you’re committed to your relationship.
When you get home, you take a deep breath and pick up your phone, texting Eunseok.
[you]: can we talk? i need to explain everything
His reply is immediate.
[seokie 🪨]: Of course. Come over whenever you’re ready.
You gather your thoughts, feeling a mix of nerves and determination. You know it won’t be easy, but you’re ready to fight for your relationship with Eunseok. You grab your keys and head out the door.
The walk to Eunseok's place is brisk, each step echoing your anxious thoughts. When you arrive, you hesitate for a moment before knocking on his door. He opens it almost immediately, his expression a mix of concern and hope.
"Hey," he says softly, stepping aside to let you in.
"Hey," you reply, trying to muster a smile.
The tension is palpable as you both make your way to the living room, sitting down on opposite ends of the couch.
For a few moments, the silence hangs heavy between you. Finally, you take a deep breath and decide to break it.
“Eunseok, I’m really sorry for how I behaved last night. I was out of line, and I didn’t mean to make you feel like your feelings didn’t matter."
He looks at you, his expression softening slightly, but there’s still a hint of tension in his eyes. "I appreciate that.”
You nod before carefully adding, “…I also met with Sungchan today.”
Eunseok's jaw tightens, and his eyes flash with annoyance, but he stays silent, waiting for you to continue.
"I needed closure," you explain. "I needed to understand why he did what he did. And... I needed to make sure I was fully committed to us."
Eunseok nods slowly, his gaze fixed on you.
"And did you get the closure you needed?"
You nod, feeling the weight of the past few months lifting slightly. "| did. I realized that he was never really my friend. He was just... scared and selfish. And while that hurt, it also made me see things clearly. Eunseok, our relationship means so much to me. I want to make you my priority."
Eunseok's expression softens yet again and he reaches out, taking your hand in his. "I'm sorry too, for how l approached the conversation yesterday. I was just... scared of losing you. I know it's not an excuse, but I should have handled it better."
You squeeze his hand, feeling a surge of relief and affection. "I understand. And I'm sorry for making you feel that way. I promise, from now on, I'll be more open with you. No more secrets."
Eunseok pulls you into a hug, his arms wrapping around you tightly. "I'm just glad we're talking about this. I don't want to lose you either."
You bury your face in his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. "You won't. I promise."
As you hold onto him, you feel a sense of relief wash over you. Eunseok is the one who’s always been there for you, and you’re grateful for that. A small part of you even feels thankful to Sungchan for breaking your heart because everything he didn’t say and do led you to Eunseok.
Pulling back slightly, you look into Eunseok’s eyes, feeling a surge of affection. "I’m really happy you’re my person, Eunseok."
He smiles, brushing a strand of hair away from your face. "And I’m happy you’re mine."
In that moment, you know that no matter what challenges come your way, you and Eunseok will face them together. Your past with Sungchan is behind you, and your future with Eunseok looks bright and full of promise.

Tumblr media
"Mama, up!"
You glance down at your youngest, his small arms reaching up towards you from the floor as you hover over the stove, carefully tending to breakfast for your bustling household. His sleepy eyes and rumpled pajamas tug at your heart, but you know you have to keep moving.
"Just a little longer, sweetheart," you say gently. "Mama's making breakfast."
But your explanation does little to soothe him, and his pout quickly turns into a full-blown tantrum. He wails, stomping his little feet in frustration, the noise echoing through the kitchen. Before you can intervene, Anton's calm, firm voice cuts through the chaos.
"Buddy, come here."
Your son turns, still sniffling, and runs into Anton's waiting arms. Anton scoops him up effortlessly, his voice soothing as he explains, "Mama's making breakfast. She can't pick you up right now, okay?"
Your son, now snuggled against Anton's shoulder, seems to understand. He buries his face into his father's neck, his cries subsiding as sleep overtakes him once more.
Just then, the twins burst into the kitchen, their energy filling the room as they dart around. The two children create a whirlwind of laughter and shouts, making it almost impossible for you to continue cooking. Your son stirs and starts to cry again, overwhelmed by the sudden noise.
"Hey, hey, calm down, everyone," Anton says, his voice authoritative yet kind. "No running around in the kitchen. Go wait in the living room until breakfast is ready."
The twins, recognizing the seriousness in their father's tone, grab each other's hands and run out, still bubbling with excitement but now more contained. You sigh in relief, though your son's cries continue, his small body writhing in Anton's arms.
"Here, let me take him," you offer, stepping towards Anton.
But Anton shakes his head, his eyes gentle but firm. "No, love. I don't want you carrying him. Remember, you're pregnant."
You roll your eyes slightly but smile, appreciating his concern. "I'm fine, Anton. I can handle it."
"I know you can," he says, brushing a stray braid from your face. "But I'd feel better if you didn't pick him up for a while."
You relent, understanding his worry, and return to cutting up the fruit, grateful for his support. Anton sways gently, soothing your son until his cries turn to soft snores. Just then, your mother-in-law descends the stairs, her presence warm and reassuring.
"Good morning," she greets, taking her grandson from Anton with practiced ease. "I'll take this little one."
"Thanks, Mom," Anton says, his hands now free to help you finish breakfast. He moves to your side, starting to plate the food with efficiency born of practice.
The sound of breakfast preparations and the occasional clatter of dishes fills the kitchen. You and Anton work in a seamless rhythm, a testament to the years of shared mornings and teamwork. As you place the final touches on the plates, Anton calls out, "Okay, breakfast is ready!"
The children come running back, their excitement renewed. As they crowd around the table, the twins start to bicker over who gets to sit next to their dad, their voices rising in discord.
"Girls, you can share the chair," you interject, cutting off the argument before it can escalate. "No more fighting, okay?"
They nod, clambering onto the same chair, their brief squabble forgotten in the excitement of breakfast. As they dig into their plates, the sound of footsteps inform of the arrival of Anton's father.
"Grandpa!" The chorus of excited voices fills the room as the kids rush to him, wrapping their arms around his legs. Even your youngest joins in, having wriggled free from his grandmother's grasp.
He chuckles, bending down to tickle them. "Alright, alright, let's finish breakfast first," he says, his eyes twinkling with affection.
Anton hands you a cup of tea, his eyes meeting yours with a loving smile. "Good morning, Dad," he says, taking a sip of his own coffee.
"Good morning," his father replies, settling into a chair with a contented sigh, watching the lively scene before him.
You take a deep breath, feeling a sense of peace amidst the chaos. Anton often tells you that your family is his whole universe, and in moments like these, it's easy to see why.
As breakfast progresses, the noise level rises again, though this time it’s filled with the happy chatter of children and the clink of utensils. Your mother-in-law, having settled your youngest comfortably on her lap, joins in the conversation, sharing a story from Anton’s childhood that has everyone laughing.
"Did you know," she says, "when your dad was your age," she points at one of the twins, "he used to run around the kitchen with his brother just like you, driving me up the wall!"
Anton shakes his head, grinning. "And now it's come full circle. Thanks for that, Mom."
The twins giggle, and you see them exchanging looks that promise future mischief.
As you move to enter the kitchen, Anton stands and follows you, placing a gentle hand on your back. "Need a hand?" he asks.
"Just need some water," you reply with a smile.
He obliges, pouring a glass of water for you before topping off his own cup with some more coffee. "You know," he says quietly, "I think we should tell everyone soon. About the baby."
You nod, looking through the kitchen entryway at the gathered family, feeling a wave of warmth and gratitude. "Yeah, soon. But not just yet. Let's keep this little secret between us for a bit longer."
Anton agrees, his eyes twinkling with anticipation. "I can't wait to meet this one."
___
As breakfast winds down, Anton’s father stands up, signaling the end of the meal. "Alright, girls," he says, clapping his hands. "Who’s up for a game outside?"
A chorus of cheers follows, and the twins scramble to clean up their plates, eager for the next adventure. Anton helps you clear the table, his hand occasionally brushing yours, a silent reminder of his love and support.
Your mother-in-law, still holding your youngest, stands and stretches. "I'll take him for a little walk in the garden," she says. "Give you two a bit of a break."
"Thanks, Mom," you say, truly grateful.
As the children spill outside, their laughter echoing back into the house, you and Anton share a quiet moment in the now peaceful kitchen. He wraps an arm around you, pulling you close.
"You know," he murmurs, "I wouldn't trade this for anything."
You rest your head against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. "Neither would I."
Anton and you retreat to the kitchen, the comforting sounds of family now a backdrop to your conversation. Together, you start washing the dishes, working side by side. Anton takes up the sponge, scrubbing at a stubborn spot on a plate, while you rinse and stack the clean dishes.
“Remember when we first found out we were having the twins?” you say, smiling at the memory.
Anton chuckles, his eyes warm with nostalgia. “How could I forget? We were both in shock. Two babies at once.”
You nod, laughing softly. “I thought we’d never sleep again.”
“And we didn’t, for a while,” Anton replies, shaking his head. “But look at them now. They’re growing up so fast.”
You both pause, gazing out the window above the kitchen sink. The large yard, a non-negotiable for both of you when buying this house, stretches out in front of you. The twins run around with their grandpa, their laughter ringing through the air, while your son clings tightly to his grandmother’s hand, exploring the garden.
“I’m so glad we insisted on a big yard,” you say, watching the children play. “I wanted them to have the space to explore, to grow up with nature. Not glued to screens all the time.”
Anton nods, his arm brushing yours as he hands you another plate. “They’re having the kind of childhood we always dreamed of for them.”
You turn to look at your husband, your heart swelling with love and gratitude. “Our son looks just like you, you know. Acts like you too. It’s like having a little Anton running around.”
Anton smiles, a tender look in his eyes. “And the twins are all you. They’ve got your energy.”
As you share this quiet moment, your oldest twin comes barreling into the kitchen, her voice high with excitement. “Beach! Daddy, Mommy, beach!”
Anton’s father follows her in, looking a bit sheepish. “Sorry about that. I told them about how much you and your brother loved swimming in the ocean when you were their age. They got a bit obsessed with the idea.”
You and Anton laugh, your kids’ enthusiasm infectious. The twins cling to your legs, their faces pleading as they beg to go.
“Please, Mommy! Please, Daddy!” they chant, their eyes wide with anticipation.
Anton glances at you, then back at the kids, a smile spreading across his face. “Well, it is nice out. How about a family outing to the beach?”
The twins squeal in delight, racing off to their shared room to pick out their outfits. You chuckle, shaking your head at their energy.
“Looks like we’re going to the beach,” you say, leaning into Anton.
He wraps an arm around you, pulling you close. “Mhhmm, excited to teach Chanwoo how to swim.”
With the dishes done, you start gathering the necessary items for a beach trip. Towels, sunscreen, snacks – everything you’ll need for a day of fun in the sun. The twins reappear, dressed in their swimsuits and hats, bouncing with excitement.
“Ready, ready, ready!” they chant, unable to contain their enthusiasm.
Your mother-in-law comes in, your son still in her arms. “Looks like we’re all set. This little one is ready for his first beach day too.”
You take a moment to look around at your family, feeling a profound sense of happiness and fulfillment. Anton catches your eye, and you share a smile, knowing that these are the moments that he appreciates most.
As you all pile into the car, the kids chatter excitedly about the waves, the sand, and the fun they’re going to have. Anton starts the engine, and you lean back in your seat, hand resting on your slowly growing belly. Anton's parents follow in their own car, ready to join the beach adventure.
The twins, Yechan and Chanmi, start firing off questions as soon as you hit the road. "Mommy, how big are the waves?" Yechan asks, her eyes wide with curiosity.
"And will we see dolphins?" Chanmi adds, bouncing in her seat.
"The waves can be pretty big, but we'll stay where it's safe for you to play," you reassure them. "And maybe, if we're lucky, we might see some dolphins."
Your son, clutching his favorite stuffed animal, pipes up. "Mama, what about cwabs?" He tries to say 'crabs' but stumbles over the word, making you smile.
"Crabs, sweetheart," Anton corrects gently. "Can you say 'crabs'?"
"Cwabs," your son tries again, furrowing his little brow.
"Crabs," Anton repeats, and the twins join in, encouraging their brother.
"Crabs, crabs, crabs!" they chant, giggling.
Your son concentrates hard, then finally says, "Crabs!"
"Yay!" The twins cheer, giving him high fives, which makes him giggle in delight.
You feel your heart warm at the sight of your children supporting each other. Anton reaches over to squeeze your hand, his eyes reflecting the same affection you feel.
“Daddy, why don’t you swim anymore?” Yechan asks suddenly, her question catching you off guard.
Anton glances at you before answering. “Well, sweetie, I stopped swimming to follow another dream. I wanted to sing, so I chose that instead.”
Chanmi gasps, her eyes wide with admiration. “You’re so cool, Daddy.”
Anton laughs, his voice soft and even lower than usual due to his bashfulness. “Thank you, Chanmi. That means a lot to me.”
When you arrive at the beach, the twins are practically vibrating with excitement, ready to dash into the water. You manage to corral them long enough to apply sunscreen, with Anton helping to ensure they’re properly covered.
“Can we go now? Please?” Yechan begs, hopping from one foot to the other.
“Alright, alright,” Anton says, laughing. “Let’s go.”
He tries to take your son along, but the little boy screeches and buries himself in your arms, clearly frightened of the water. “Looks like he’s not ready for the waves yet,” you say, soothing him with gentle pats. “We’ll stay here and build a sandcastle, okay?”
Your son nods, his grip on you tightening. You find a good spot on the beach, and soon, you’re both immersed in building an elaborate sandcastle, complete with moats and towers.
Your mother-in-law and father-in-law join you, sitting down in the sand to watch and help. “This is such a lovely day,” your mother-in-law says, her voice warm with affection. “Thank you for making our son so happy.”
You glance up, surprised. “Oh, it’s my pleasure. Anton means the world to me.”
She smiles, her eyes softening. “I was always worried, you know. With Anton’s job, I feared he’d never find someone who truly loved him for who he is. But you’ve been his rock. Despite the hate and the invasive fans, you stayed by his side. There’s no one else I could ever see him loving.”
Your father-in-law nods in agreement. “We’re grateful for you. You’ve made him so happy, and that’s all we’ve ever wanted for our kids.”
Tears prick at the corners of your eyes, but you blink them away, smiling. “Thank you. That means a lot. I love Anton, and I love this family we’ve built together.”
As you chat, you keep an eye on Anton and the twins in the water. They’re laughing and splashing, Anton’s strong arms steadying them against the small waves. It’s clear they’re having the time of their lives, and your heart swells with pride and joy.
Your son, now more relaxed, starts to enjoy the sandcastle project, his little hands patting the sand into shape. “Look, Mama! Big tower!” he exclaims, showing you his handiwork.
“That’s amazing!” you praise, giving him a high five.
Your mother-in-law watches the scene with a tender smile. “He’s so much like Anton at that age. So determined and full of wonder.”
“He really is,” you agree, looking at your son with love.
After a while, Anton and the twins return, their faces flushed with excitement. “Mommy, did you see us? We went so far out!” Yechan says, her eyes sparkling.
“I saw! You were so brave,” you say, hugging her.
Chanmi nods vigorously. “Daddy was the best lifeguard ever!”
Anton grins, ruffling their hair. “You two were amazing swimmers.”
As the excitement of swimming subsides, you turn to your son, who’s been contentedly building sandcastles by your side. “Do you want to try the water, sweetie?” you ask him gently.
He hesitates, looking out at the waves with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. “Mama, water scary.”
You smile reassuringly. “I know it seems that way, but Mommy and Daddy will be right there with you. We’ll keep you safe, I promise.”
He looks up at you, his little face thoughtful. After a moment, he nods. “Okay, Mama. I twust you.”
You stand and take his small hand in yours, feeling a swell of pride at his bravery. “Let’s go to the shore, then. Daddy, can you help?”
Anton joins you, taking your son’s other hand. “Ready, buddy? We’ll take it slow.”
Together, you walk toward the water, your son gripping your hands tightly. When the first wave gently rolls over his little toes, he shrieks at the sensation but doesn’t pull away.
“See? It’s not so bad,” Anton says, smiling down at him. “Do you want to go in a bit deeper?”
Your son looks up at you both, then back at the water. With a firm nod, he says, “Yes, Daddy. Deeper.”
You caress his cheek, your heart swelling with love. “That’s my brave boy.”
As you walk in a bit further, the water rises to his knees. He giggles, now more accustomed to the feel of the waves. He pulls his hands free from yours and starts splashing around, his laughter echoing over the beach.
Anton giggles along with him, scooping him up and tossing him gently in the air before catching him. Your son squeals with delight, his fear completely forgotten. Anton tickles him, and the two of them laugh together, the joy of the moment infectious.
After a while, you head back to join the rest of the family for lunch. You spread out the picnic blanket, and everyone gathers around, their faces glowing with happiness and the warmth of the sun.
“Look at this spread,” your father-in-law says, rubbing his hands together. “You’ve outdone yourself.”
You smile, handing out some gimbap. “I had a lot of help.”
The kids settle down with their food, and soon the air is filled with the sound of chatter and laughter.
“Grandpa, do you like sandcastles?” Yechan asks, her mouth full of mango.
“I love sandcastles,” he replies, winking at her. “Especially when they’re built by my grandkids.”
Chanmi, always the curious one, turns to her grandmother. “Grandma, did Daddy build sandcastles too?”
Her grandmother smiles, brushing a stray hair from Chanmi’s face. “Oh yes, he did. Your daddy loved the beach when he was your age. He used to spend hours building the biggest sandcastles you can imagine.”
“Wow,” Chanmi says, eyes wide. “Daddy, did you really?”
Anton nods, taking a bite of his sandwich. “I did. I loved making towers, just like you do.”
“Can we build one together later?” Yechan asks, looking up at her dad with hopeful eyes.
“Of course,” Anton says, smiling. “I’d love that.”
Your son, having finished his sandwich, looks up at you with a proud smile. “Mama, I not scared of water no more.”
You ruffle his hair. “I’m so proud of you, sweetheart. You were very brave.”
Anton’s mother looks at you with a soft smile. “You’re doing such a wonderful job with them. Thank you for giving Anton such a beautiful family.”
You feel a lump in your throat, touched by her words. “Thank you. It means a lot to hear that.”
Your father-in-law chimes in. “We couldn’t have asked for a better daughter-in-law. You’ve made our son so happy.”
As the afternoon progresses, you enjoy the easy camaraderie of family, the children’s laughter mingling with the soothing sound of the waves. You build more sandcastles, take turns flying a kite, and even manage to get your son to dip his toes in the water again, this time with even more confidence.
As the sun begins to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, you gather your belongings, tired but content. The kids are still buzzing with energy, talking animatedly about their day.
“Can we come back tomorrow?” Yechan asks, her eyes shining with excitement.
“We’ll see,” Anton says, chuckling. “But for now, it’s time to head home and get some rest.”
You pile back into the cars, the kids’ chatter a comforting background noise as you drive home. Anton reaches over and takes your hand, his thumb brushing over your knuckles in a tender gesture.
“I love you,” he says softly.
“I love you too,” you reply, feeling the truth of those words deep in your heart.
As you pull into the driveway, you can’t help but reflect on the day’s events. It’s in these simple, yet profound moments that you find true happiness. However, as you prepare to go inside, you realize the day isn’t quite over yet.
Anton carries your son, who fell asleep during the car ride, into the house. “Looks like someone’s completely worn out,” he says, smiling.
Inside, the twins start arguing as soon as they hear Anton mention showers. “If he’s not going to take a shower, then we won’t either!” Yechan declares, crossing her arms defiantly.
“That’s not fair!” Chanmi adds, mimicking her sister’s stance.
Anton sighs, his tone firm but gentle. “Everyone will be taking a shower tonight. No exceptions. We’ve all had a long day at the beach, and we need to get cleaned up.”
Yechan and Chanmi groan but relent, seeing that their father won’t budge. Anton carries your son to the bathroom while you start running the water, getting everything ready.
“Sweetheart, it’s time to wake up and take a quick shower,” you whisper, gently shaking your son awake.
He stirs, his face scrunching up in protest. “No, Mama, too sleepy.”
Anton chuckles softly. “I know, buddy, but you’ll feel better after a quick rinse. We’ll make it fast, I promise.”
Reluctantly, your son allows himself to be undressed and placed under the warm water. Anton keeps him steady, washing off the sand and salt while you help the twins get ready. Despite the initial resistance, the warm water helps soothe everyone, and soon the bathroom is filled with giggles and splashes as the day’s adventures are recounted.
After the showers, you wrap your son in a fluffy towel and carry him to his room. He’s barely awake, his head resting heavily on your shoulder. You and Anton moisturize his skin before dressing him in some pajamas and tuck him into bed, kissing his forehead. “Goodnight, my brave boy,” you whisper, brushing his hair back.
“Night, Mama. Night, Daddy,” he mumbles, already drifting back to sleep.
With your son settled, you head to the twins’ room. They’re in their pajamas, bouncing on their beds with boundless energy. “Alright, time for a bedtime story,” you announce, trying to wrangle them into bed.
“Yay! Storytime!” they cheer, finally settling down.
Anton picks out a book and starts reading, his voice soft and animated. The twins listen intently, their eyes wide with fascination. As the story ends, Chanmi immediately pipes up. “One more, please, Mommy!”
You shake your head gently. “No, sweetie, it’s time to sleep. We’ll read another one tomorrow.”
This answer doesn’t sit well with Chanmi, who starts to pout. “But I don’t want to sleep!” she declares, her voice rising.
“Chanmi, we agreed on one story,” Anton says, his tone firm. “It’s time for bed now.”
Chanmi’s frustration hits a head, and she starts to cry, thrashing around. In her tantrum, she accidentally smacks your stomach with her little hand. Anton’s eyes flash with anger, and he steps in immediately. “Noémi Chanmi Lee, that’s enough!” he says sternly. “You need to stop this right now. Hitting is not okay.”
You wince slightly at the impact and the use of your daughter's full government name but try to reassure Anton. “It’s okay, I’m fine,” you say softly, placing a hand on his arm.
Anton shakes his head, his eyes still on Chanmi. “She needs to understand what she did was wrong.” He kneels down to her level, his tone gentler but firm. “Chanmi, you need to calm down. It’s not okay to throw tantrums and hit. Even if you didn’t mean to, it’s still not acceptable.”
Chanmi’s tears start to slow as she realizes the gravity of what she’s done. “I’m sorry, Mommy,” she says, her voice trembling. “I didn’t mean to hit you.”
You kneel down beside Anton and pull Chanmi into a hug. “I know you didn’t mean it, sweetie. I forgive you. But you need to listen when we say it’s time for bed.”
Anton wipes away Chanmi’s tears, his expression softening. “I’m sorry for yelling, but I was worried about Mommy. It’s important to behave and not throw tantrums, okay?”
Chanmi nods, sniffling. “Okay, Daddy. I’ll sleep now.”
You and Anton tuck the twins in, kissing them goodnight. “Sweet dreams, my loves,” you whisper, brushing a stray hair from Chanmi’s forehead.
“Night, Mommy. Night, Daddy,” they murmur, finally settling down.
As you close the door to the twins’ room, you and Anton exchange a look of shared relief and exhaustion. “Parenting is no joke,” Anton says with a tired smile.
You chuckle softly. “No, it’s not. But we’re in this together.”
Hand in hand, you head to your bedroom, the weight of the day’s activities starting to settle in. Once inside, you start getting ready for bed. You change into your robe and begin to wrap up your hair. Anton watches you with a soft smile, his love and admiration evident in his eyes.
“Shower?” he suggests, his voice warm and inviting.
You nod, feeling the day’s weariness melt away at the thought. “Yes, please.”
In the bathroom, Anton turns on the water, adjusting it to the perfect temperature. He helps you out of your robe and then sheds his own clothes, leading you under the warm spray. The water cascades over you both, washing away the sand and salt from the beach.
Anton takes the soap and lathers his hands, starting to wash your body with gentle, loving strokes. He’s careful and thorough, his touch tender as he cleanses your skin. When he reaches your growing belly, he bends down and kisses it softly, his lips lingering for a moment. “Hello in there,” he whispers, his voice filled with warmth and affection.
You smile down at him, your heart swelling with love. “You’re so sweet,” you murmur.
He stands back up and finishes rinsing you off before taking his turn. You help him wash, enjoying the intimacy of the moment. After you both are clean, you step out of the shower, drying each other off with fluffy towels. Anton wraps you in a warm embrace, his hands resting on your hips.
Back in your bedroom, you both get dressed in comfortable pajamas. You slip into bed first, sighing contentedly as you sink into the soft sheets. Anton follows, climbing in beside you and pulling you close to his body. His arms wrap around you protectively, his warmth seeping into your skin.
You nestle against him, feeling safe and loved. “Today was wonderful,” you say, your voice a gentle whisper in the quiet room.
“It really was,” Anton agrees, his hand resting on your belly. “The kids had so much fun, and I loved seeing them so happy.”
You nod, placing your hand over his. “And seeing our little one growing inside me, it makes everything feel even more special.”
Anton smiles, his eyes softening. “I’ve been thinking about the baby a lot. I really hope it’s a boy this time.”
You laugh softly, teasingly. “You scream girl dad, Anton. You should be thankful you have at least one son.”
He chuckles, giving your belly a gentle pat. “I know, but it’d be nice to balance things out a bit. The girls have such strong personalities, and sometimes I think it’d be fun to have another little guy running around.”
You smile, feeling a sense of contentment. “Well, whatever this little one turns out to be, I know we’ll love them just as much as we love the others.”
“Absolutely,” Anton agrees, his voice filled with sincerity. “I just want our family to be happy and healthy.”
You tilt your head up to look at him, your eyes meeting his. “And they are. Thanks to you.”
He shakes his head slightly, a modest smile on his lips. “Thanks to us. We’re a team, remember?”
You nod, your heart swelling with love for this man who has given you everything. “Yes, we are.”
Anton leans down, pressing a soft kiss to your lips. “I love you,” he whispers against your mouth.
“I love you too,” you reply, your voice filled with emotion.
As you settle into his embrace, you close your eyes, feeling completely at peace. The day has been long and tiring, but it has also been filled with love, laughter, and precious moments with your family. And as you drift off to sleep, you know that no matter what challenges come your way, you and Anton will face them together, with love and gratitude for the beautiful life you’ve built together.

You've always been in love with Sungchan. From the very first moment you met him in the school courtyard, when he handed you that crumpled homework sheet with a shy smile, you knew he was different. As the years passed, that initial spark only grew stronger, turning into a fierce flame that consumed you every time you saw him. It’s funny, really, how someone can become your entire world without them even realizing it. Every laugh you shared, every secret you whispered, every moment you spent together, it was like living in a dream. But dreams are fragile, and reality has a way of waking you up abruptly.
Sungchan was always a constant in your life, a steady presence that you could always count on. He never once imagined a world where you weren’t there, by his side, supporting him through thick and thin. You think he took it for granted, your unwavering loyalty and affection. Not that you ever blamed him. It’s easy to overlook what’s always there, right in front of you.
You both grew up together, navigating the tumultuous years of adolescence, laughing through your awkward phases, and holding each other up through heartbreaks and disappointments. Sungchan had a magnetic personality; he was charming, kind, and effortlessly popular. People were drawn to him, and he thrived on the attention, though he remained humble and grounded. You, on the other hand, were content to remain in the background, his ever-present shadow, silently cheering him on.
There were moments when you thought he might feel the same way, fleeting glances and lingering touches that set your heart racing. But they were always followed by casual comments about other girls, reminders that you were firmly placed in the friend zone. Still, you held onto hope, convinced that one day he would see you, truly see you, for who you were and how deeply you cared for him.
You wonder when that day will come.
“Sungchan, I really don’t want to go to this party,” you say, trying to keep the whine out of your voice as you hug a cushion to your chest. “I’d rather just stay home and watch anime.”
Sungchan pouts, leaning against your bedroom door. “Come on, it’s going to be fun! Everyone’s going to be there, and I don’t want to go without you.”
Eunseok, Sungchan’s roommate and your mutual friend, looks up from his phone with a smirk. “Dude, if she doesn’t want to go, don’t hound her. Let her have her anime night in peace.”
Sungchan shoots Eunseok a pleading look. “Eunseok, help me out here. You know how boring it’ll be without her.”
Eunseok shrugs, leaning back against the wall. “Why don’t you just go by yourself for once? You don’t need to drag her to every single party, man.”
You smile gratefully at Eunseok, appreciating his attempt to take the pressure off. “Thanks, Eunseok. Besides, you know I’m not really a party person.”
Sungchan sighs dramatically, running a hand through his hair. “Please? Just this one last time? I promise I won’t bug you about parties anymore if you come tonight.”
You glance at Eunseok, who raises an eyebrow and grins. “Fine,” you say, giving in. “But only if Eunseok goes too.”
Eunseok chuckles. “Alright, I guess I can sacrifice my night to keep you two company.”
Sungchan’s face lights up, and he pumps his fist in the air. “Yes! It’s going to be awesome, I promise!”
Later that night, the three of you meet up and head to the party together. As soon as you walk through the door, the noise and energy hit you like a wave. Sungchan, in his element, quickly spots some friends and ditches you and Eunseok without a second thought.
You expected this. Taking a deep breath, you turn to Eunseok. “Guess it’s just you and me, then.”
He nods, giving you a sympathetic smile. “Let’s find a quieter spot, yeah?”
You both navigate through the crowd, eventually finding a relatively peaceful corner where the music is a little less deafening. You sit down on a couch, and Eunseok joins you, leaning back and looking around with mild interest.
“So, what’s the deal with you and Sungchan?” he asks after a moment. “You’ve been friends forever, right?”
“Yeah, since middle school,” you reply, feeling a familiar pang in your chest. “He’s always been there for me.”
Eunseok nods, studying your face. “And you’re always there for him.”
You sigh, picking at a loose thread on the couch. “I guess.”
Eunseok’s eyes soften. “You like him, don’t you?”
Your heart skips a beat, and you glance at him, startled. “Is it that obvious?”
He shrugs, giving you a small, knowing smile. “I’m observant. And it’s not just me. Everyone who’s close to you can see it.”
You feel a flush creeping up your neck. “I’ve tried to keep it a secret.”
Eunseok shakes his head. “You’re not fooling anyone. And honestly, I don’t think Sungchan is as clueless as he pretends to be.”
You stiffen, your eyes narrowing. “What do you mean?”
Before Eunseok can answer, you spot Sungchan across the room, laughing with Yuri, the popular tennis captain. Your heart sinks as you watch them together, the easy way they interact, the chemistry that’s undeniable.
She’s beautiful, confident, and completely captivated by Sungchan. The way she looks at him, with an intensity that mirrors your own hidden feelings, sends a pang of jealousy through your chest. You try to shake it off, to remind yourself that Sungchan and you are just friends, that you have no claim over him. But it hurts, more than you want to admit.
Eunseok follows your gaze and sighs. “Why do you let him do this to you?”
You tear your eyes away from Sungchan and look at Eunseok, confused. “Do what?”
“Play with your feelings like this,” he says softly. “It’s like he knows exactly how you feel and he’s just stringing you along.”
You shake your head, feeling a surge of anger. “No, Sungchan isn’t like that. He’s not cruel.”
Eunseok holds up his hands in a placating gesture. “He brought you to a party knowing you hate them just to abandon you. You deserve better.”
Tears prick at the corners of your eyes, and you blink them away, not wanting to cry in front of Eunseok. “I don’t know. Maybe I’m just being stupid.”
“You’re not stupid,” Eunseok says firmly. “You have a big heart, and you care deeply. That’s not a bad thing. But you also need to take care of yourself.”
You look down, feeling a mixture of emotions swirling inside you. “I just...I keep hoping that he’ll see me. Really see me.”
Eunseok leans closer, his voice gentle. “And what if he never does? Are you going to keep waiting forever?”
You bite your lip, unable to answer. The thought of giving up on Sungchan is too painful to contemplate.
Eunseok sighs, placing a hand on yours. “You’re a wonderful person. Anyone would be lucky to have you in their life. Don’t waste your time on someone who doesn’t appreciate that.”
You look up at him, grateful for his words even though they sting. “Thanks, Eunseok. I needed to hear that.”
He smiles, squeezing your shoulder reassuringly. “Anytime.”
The rest of the night passes in a blur. You stick close to Eunseok, finding comfort in his presence. He’s a good listener, and you find yourself opening up to him more than you expected. He shares stories about his own life, his ambitions, and his struggles, and you realize how little you actually knew about him before tonight.
As the night wears on, you watch Sungchan and Yuri grow closer, their conversation becoming more intimate, their touches more frequent. You felt like an outsider, a silent observer to the budding romance that was unfolding before your eyes. You knew then that you were losing him, that the dream you had cherished for so long was slipping away.
As the party winds down, you and Eunseok decide to leave. Sungchan is nowhere to be found, still presumably with Yuri. You walk back to your apartment with Eunseok, the cool night air helping to clear your mind.
When you reach your door, Eunseok turns to you with a serious expression. “Remember what I said. You deserve to be happy.”
You nod, feeling a warmth in your chest that wasn’t there before. “I will. Thanks, Eunseok.”
He smiles and gives you a small wave before heading to his own apartment. You watch him go, a sense of calm settling over you.
Tumblr media
The next morning, you wake up to a series of text messages lighting up your phone. Blinking away the sleep, you scroll through the notifications. Eunseok’s message catches your eye first.
[eunseok]: Hey, just checking in. How are you feeling this morning?
A soft smile tugs at your lips, warmth spreading through your chest at his concern. You scroll down to find another message from Sungchan.
[sungchanie]: last night was wild! i think i met the love of my life lol.”
Your heart sinks. You feel a sharp pang of jealousy and sadness. Taking a deep breath, you compose yourself and respond to Sungchan’s message with a simple thumbs-up emoji. You then turn back to Eunseok’s message, grateful for his support.
[you]: morning eunseok. just found out that sungchan thinks yuri is the love of his life lol :p
His reply is almost immediate.
[eunseok]: I’m sorry to hear that. Would you like me to come over? I have ice cream and a Netflix subscription.
You giggle despite yourself, feeling a bit lighter.
[you]: yes please! cookie dough ice cream?
[eunseok]: You got it. Be there soon.
A short while later, there’s a knock on your door. You open it to find Eunseok standing there with a tub of cookie dough ice cream, two spoons and a warm smile.
“Hey,” he says softly, stepping inside. He doesn’t ask any questions, just pulls you into a hug and leads you to the couch.
“Hey,” you reply, feeling a little better already.
You both settle in, the ice cream tub between you. As the first romcom starts playing, you can’t help but feel grateful for Eunseok’s presence. He makes you laugh at all the right moments, and the pain of seeing Sungchan with Yuri begins to fade into the background.
By the time you’re halfway through the second movie, you find yourself cuddled up against Eunseok, his arm draped over your shoulders. The warmth and comfort you feel with him are undeniable, and for the first time in a long while, you feel a sense of peace.
However a series of knocks on the door soon interrupts your tranquility. Sighing, you disentangle yourself from Eunseok and head to answer it. Standing there is Sungchan, his usual bright smile on his face.
“Hey! You won’t believe how amazing Yuri is,” he starts, letting himself in. His excitement is palpable, but it quickly dims when he spots Eunseok on the couch, occupying what has always been his unspoken spot.
“What’s he doing here?” Sungchan asks, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Eunseok looks up casually. “Hanging out with ____”
You take a deep breath, summoning the strength you’ve been cultivating over the past few hours. “Sungchan, we’re busy right now. Can you come back later?”
Sungchan looks taken aback, surprise flickering across his face. He glances between you and Eunseok before nodding slowly. “Uh, sure. I’ll catch you later then.”
You watch him leave, closing the door gently behind him. Turning back to Eunseok, you feel a strange mixture of relief and anxiety.
“I’m proud of you,” Eunseok says softly, pulling you back into his arms. “I know that probably wasn’t easy.”
You blush, shrugging lightly. “It’s... getting easier.”
The next few weeks follow a similar pattern. You and Eunseok spend more time together, finding comfort in each other’s company. You gradually start to distance yourself from Sungchan, realizing that holding onto the hope of him seeing you differently only brings more pain.
Sometimes, the days that follow are a blur of pain and numbness. Sungchan calls and texts you, mostly about Yuri and you can’t bring yourself to respond. You need space, time to come to terms with the reality that he has found someone else, someone who isn’t you. You tell yourself that you should be happy for him, that his happiness is all that matters, but it’s a bitter pill to swallow.
One evening, as you're sitting in your room, trying to focus on studying, your phone lights up with a text message. It’s from Sungchan.
[sungchanie]: did i do something wrong?
Your heart sinks at the message. Despite everything, you still care deeply about him, and the thought of hurting him hurts you too. You stare at the screen, unsure of how to respond.
A few minutes later, another message comes through.
[sungchanie]: i hate the silent treatment y/n :(
You take a deep breath, your fingers hovering over the keyboard. As much as you don’t want to feel anything for him anymore, you can’t deny the rush of emotions that flood your chest.
[you]: “hey sungchan. you haven’t done anything wrong,,,just been swamped with classes and needed some time to myself
Almost immediately, your phone buzzes with another message from him.
[sungchanie]: can i come over? i miss hanging out with you
You hesitate for a moment, chewing on your bottom lip. Despite everything, you find yourself typing back.
[you]: sure
Not long after, there’s a knock on your door. You take a deep breath and open it to find Sungchan standing there with a sheepish smile.
“Hey,” he says softly, stepping inside. “I’ve missed you.”
You manage a small smile. “I’ve missed you too.”
He glances around your room. “Where’s Eunseok? I’m surprised he’s not attached to your hip.”
You chuckle nervously, feeling a pang of guilt. “He’s at a study group.”
Sungchan nods, taking a seat on your bed. “So, about Yuri...”
Your heart sinks, but you swallow the lump in your throat and force a smile. “Yeah, tell me about her.”
Sungchan launches into how he and Yuri have been on a few dates, how he thinks he’s going to ask her out officially soon. You listen, nodding along and trying to push down the ache in your chest.
“That’s great, Sungchan,” you manage to say, forcing cheerfulness into your tone. “I’m really happy for you.”
Just then, your phone buzzes with a text message from Eunseok.
[eunseok]: Hey! Would you like to join me and some friends for a game night tonight?
You smile at the invitation and text back quickly.
[you]: sure! i’ll be there ^-^
Sungchan glances at your phone curiously. “Who’s that?”
You hesitate, then decide to be honest. “It’s Eunseok. He invited me to join him for a game night with his friends.”
Sungchan’s expression shifts slightly, a flicker of jealousy crossing his face. “Oh. Are you guys... dating?”
Your heart skips a beat at the question, and you falter for a moment. “Um, no, we’re just friends.”
But Sungchan doesn’t seem satisfied with your answer. His brows furrow, and he leans forward, his voice tinged with frustration. “It’s just... you two seem really close. It almost feels like he’s replacing me.”
You feel a surge of frustration and hurt. “Sungchan, he’s just being a good friend. No one could ever replace you.”
He shakes his head, his frustration boiling over. “Do you even realize what you’re doing? You’re letting Eunseok get in between us!”
Your eyes widen in shock. “What are you talking about? There’s nothing going on between me and Eunseok. He’s just my friend.”
Sungchan stands up, his voice rising. “I’ve known you for so long, and now suddenly Eunseok is always around. It’s like I don’t even matter anymore!”
You stand up too, your own anger bubbling. “That’s not fair, Sungchan! You’ve been spending all your time with Yuri, and I needed someone to talk to. Eunseok has been there for me when you weren’t.”
He scoffs, shaking his head. “You don’t get it, do you? You’ve replaced me with him. Every time I turn around, he’s there. And it feels like you don’t even care.”
Tears prick at your eyes as you try to defend yourself. “I do care! But you’re the one who’s been distant. You’re the one who found someone else.”
Sungchan’s eyes flash with hurt and anger. “Maybe I did, but that doesn’t mean you had to replace me so easily.”
You shake your head, feeling the weight of his words. “You’re being unfair, Sungchan. Eunseok is just a good friend. You’re the one who’s been pushing me away.”
His face hardens, and he takes a step back. “Maybe I needed to, because it hurts too much to see you with him.”
You’re stunned into silence, the weight of his confession hanging in the air. Before you can say anything, he turns on his heel and storms out of your room, slamming the door behind him.
You collapse onto your bed, tears streaming down your face. The argument replays in your mind, each word cutting deeper than the last. You can’t shake the feeling of loss and confusion, wondering how things went so wrong.
Despite your pain, you decide to suck it up and go to the game night. You text Eunseok, letting him know you’re on your way. When you arrive, his friends greet you warmly, their cheerful banter and infectious energy immediately starting to lift your spirits.
Eunseok’s friends, Beomgyu, Anton, Karina, Yujin and Jake, quickly draw you into their circle. They’re a lively bunch, and it’s impossible not to be swept up in their enthusiasm.
“Alright, who’s ready for a game of spoons?” Beomgyu announces, waggling his eyebrows mischievously.
“You’re not planning to cheat again, are you, Beomgyu?” Yujin teases, raising an eyebrow.
He gasps dramatically. “Me? Cheat? Never!” But there’s a twinkle in his eye that suggests otherwise.
Anton and Jake’s dynamic is particularly amusing. Anton is calm and methodical, while Jake is a bundle of energy, constantly in motion. They bicker and banter like an old married couple, which keeps you entertained and helps take your mind off Sungchan.
As the game progresses, you can’t help but notice Beomgyu’s suspiciously fast reflexes. Every time a spoon is up for grabs, he somehow always manages to snatch it first.
“I’m onto you, Beomgyu,” you say with a mock-serious tone after he wins yet another round. “You’re definitely cheating.”
He laughs, holding up his hands in mock surrender. “I’m just that good, I swear!”
Eunseok, sitting next to you, chuckles. “Don’t let him fool you, ____. Beomgyu’s a known cheater.”
You laugh along, feeling more relaxed than you have all evening but Eunseok’s keen eyes don’t miss the occasional flickers of sadness that cross your face. After you both lose a particularly intense round of spoons, he stands up and offers you a hand.
“Help me with snacks in the kitchen?” he asks gently.
You nod and follow him, grateful for the brief escape. In the kitchen, Eunseok begins prepping more snacks, occasionally feeding you bits of fruit or cheese.
“Are you okay?” he asks softly, his concern evident.
You sigh, leaning against the counter. “Sungchan and I got into an argument before I came over.”
Eunseok pauses, looking at you intently. “What was it about?”
You hesitate, then spill the details about Sungchan feeling replaced by Eunseok and how hurt and jealous he seemed. Eunseok’s expression darkens.
“He said that it hurt too much to see us together.”
“That’s manipulative,” he says bluntly.
You shake your head, feeling a rush of defensiveness. “He’s just hurt, Eunseok.”
“He knows what he’s doing, ____,” Eunseok counters. “Why would he say that it hurts to see us together if he doesn’t have feelings for you? He’s just stringing you along.”
You don’t know what to say, the truth of his words sinking in but conflicting with your loyalty to Sungchan. The emotions swirling inside you become too much to handle.
“I think I should go home,” you finally say, your voice small.
Eunseok’s face falls. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to ruin your night.”
“It’s not you,” you reassure him, managing a weak smile. “It’s just hitting me how messed up this situation is.”
He sighs, running a hand through his hair. “Let me walk you home.”
You shake your head. “No, you should stay with your friends. I’ll be fine.”
Reluctantly, Eunseok nods. “Alright, but text me when you get home, okay?”
“I will,” you promise.
As you make your way home, your mind races with thoughts of the evening’s events. You replay Eunseok’s words over and over, feeling a mixture of frustration, sadness, and an unexpected hint of clarity.
When you finally arrive home, you text Eunseok as promised.
[you]: i’m home. thanks for tonight
[eunseok]: Anytime. I'm here if you need to talk.
You appreciate his unwavering support but feel a heavy weight pressing on your chest. You sit on your bed, staring at your phone, wondering how you ended up in this tangled web of emotions.
Tumblr media
The next week is a blur of classes and studying. You try to avoid thinking about Sungchan and focus on your schoolwork, but it’s a losing battle. His absence is a constant ache, a reminder of the distance growing between you.
Tonight, you find yourself standing in front of his apartment, your heart pounding in your chest. You don’t know what you hope to achieve, but you know you can’t keep pretending that everything is okay. You need closure, one way or another.
Before you can even knock, the door swings open and Sungchan stands there, surprise flashing across his face when he sees you. “____, what are you doing here?”
“I wanted to talk,” you say, trying to keep your voice steady.
Just then, Yuri pops out from behind Sungchan, wrapping her arms around his waist and planting a kiss on his lips. Your heart clenches as you watch them, but you force yourself to stay composed.
After a moment, Yuri finally pulls away. “I’ll see you later, Sungchan,” she says, giving him one last peck and you a smug grin before leaving.
Once she’s gone, Sungchan lets you in, making a snarky comment as he closes the door. “Where’s Eunseok? I thought he’d be glued to your side.”
You stay calm and reply, “I didn’t come to fight with you, Sungchan. I just want to clear the air.”
He nods, crossing his arms. “So, are you ready to apologize?”
You’re taken aback. “Apologize for what?”
“For being a bad friend recently,” he says, standing his ground.
Anger rises within you. “No, Sungchan. You’ve been a bad friend. You blew me off at the party after begging me to go. Then here comes Yuri, and now you’re completely pussy whipped.”
He scoffs, rolling his eyes. “Don’t tell me you’re jealous of Yuri. I thought you’d be over your little high school crush by now.”
The words hit you like a punch to the gut. “What?”
Sungchan stares at you blankly and you feel anger coursing through your veins as you realize he’s known all this time. He knew just how much you love and care for him and he took it selfishly, knowing just what to say to keep you by his side. He only ever gave you just enough to string you along and give you false hope. Eunseok was right.
“How could you be so... so cruel? All this time you knew I liked you but led me on and kept me around for your own satisfaction. How could you do that? We’re supposed to be best friends.”
“Exactly,” he snaps back. “Best friends. So stop thinking we’ll ever be more. It weirds me out.”
The argument escalates, voices rising with each exchange.
“You knew,” you say, tears welling up in your eyes. “You knew how I felt and you still... How could you do that?”
“I didn’t have feelings for you then, and I still don’t now,” Sungchan retorts, his face twisted in anger. “You need to move on.”
“How could you be so heartless?” you cry out, the pain evident in your voice. “You used me. You knew how much I cared and you used me.”
Sungchan’s expression softens for a moment, guilt flickering in his eyes, but it quickly hardens again. “I didn’t use you. I thought you were over it. I thought we were just friends.”
You shake your head, tears streaming down your face. “Go screw yourself, Sungchan.”
You turn towards the door, ready to leave, but before you can open it, Eunseok lets himself in. He sees your tears and Sungchan’s guilty expression, his own face hardening with anger.
“What the hell is going on here?” Eunseok demands, glaring at Sungchan before turning his attention to you. “Come on, let’s get out of here.”
He grabs your hand and leads you away, his grip firm but gentle. You don’t resist, too overwhelmed by the confrontation to do anything but follow him. He takes you to a nearby boba shop and finds a quiet corner for the two of you. After placing your orders, he brings your drink and sits beside you, offering silent support.
For a while, you both sip your drinks in silence. Then, Eunseok starts talking about his economics midterm, detailing how tough it was and how he’s sure he failed. You appreciate his attempt to distract you and let him continue, feeling a small sense of normalcy returning.
Once he’s done venting about his exam, you take a deep breath and softly say, “Thank you.”
He smiles gently. “You never have to thank me. I’m here for you, always.”
He looks at you with gentle concern. “Do you want to talk about it?”
You play with the straw of your drink, gathering your thoughts. “We had a huge fight. Sungchan said some really hurtful things… things I didn’t expect him to say.”
Eunseok’s face darkens. “What did he say?”
You recount the argument, detailing how Sungchan accused you of being a bad friend and dismissed your feelings as a mere high school crush. By the time you’re done, Eunseok is seething with anger on your behalf.
“He’s an immature prick,” he snaps, his eyes flashing with anger. “How could he say those things to you? After everything you’ve done for him?”
“I don’t know,” you whisper, tears welling up again. “I thought he was my best friend.”
Eunseok takes your hand in his, squeezing it reassuringly. “You deserve so much better, ____. Don’t let him make you feel like you’re in the wrong. You’ve been an amazing friend to him, and he doesn’t appreciate it.”
His words are like a balm to your wounded heart, and you manage a small smile. “Thank you, Eunseok. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
He smiles back, his anger slowly dissipating. “You’ll never have to find out. I’m here for you, always.”
The two of you sit in comfortable silence for a while, sipping your drinks and finding solace in each other’s presence.
