So many people didn't realize the actual plot of NGK and that saddens me everyday

i agree!!! it's one of my favourite suriya films, maybe even my favourite, because i find it so deeply compelling in framing and character arc. it's easily the most interesting film he has done in many, many recent years. it always bums me out it wasn't appreciated as much as i personally did

i do think the editing is very choppy and they shot themselves in the foot trying to make it mass marketable to everyone by cutting away a lot, instead of keeping it to the niche smaller group it should've appealed to like us. still, i do think many people, despite the poor editing, had trouble accepting suriya's character arc in the film and kept claiming it was a film with ''no story''

@runaways-hideaway ; I made a kinda gay edit after this entire conversation he has with his (boy)friend cuz brother, the way you look at him is just pure love, pure i-would-do-anything-to-please-you, which is what HE DID glad to know im not the only one who sees it, this movie wasn't in the slightest straight, cuz why were there two seperate confession scenes where they just yell their love out for each other (one of them even ended up in samantha telling him to be with chandru instead lol)

hellooooo thank you for the picking out these old anjaan posts lol i always love it when people interact with my stuff here, especially on older posts :') not many do anymore with the influx of new users from other sites not knowing how tumblr works rip. ye it has been a while since i've watched this film buT YESSSS this movie was so needlessly hetero cos the raju/chandru relationship was just so weirdly written in?? what even was happening, man... so dumb. i know it's a shit film but the sole silverlining is absolutely the homoeroticism that at least makes the subtext vaguely interesting to ponder over in an otherwise bland and commonplace revenge narrative. the entire sequence with bramanandham and the conversation post-dance where they sit on the road is my favourite, too. one of the few bits where the film has some proper heart to it imo

why are people so against negative character development? characters don’t need to improve and become better people they can get worse and make mistakes and end up in a worse state than when they began and it’s just as interesting and entertaining as characters developing positively

More random tropes that I fucking love: Becoming the mask you wore.

Like oh shit, this character who was sent to spy somewhere under a false identity suddenly realises they've started to genuinely become the person they claimed to be? Someone who's been telling the same lies about who they are for so long that they're actually forgetting that the story isn't true? Finding themselves genuinely doing the things they pretend to do in front of people, when they're alone and nobody's watching? Answering to a name that wasn't supposed to be theirs without thinking?

Ooohh-hoh-hoh, you lost track of yourself in pretending to be someone else? You were only supposed to impersonate somebody, a plausible background and a name you came up with on the spot, and now that the people you were supposed to infiltrate have become your true companions? You lost yourself in the game you played, and no you no longer know who you truly are, and where your true loyalties lie? And both sides would mark you a traitor if you came out with the truth. On a scale of one to ten, how bad did you fuck up.

Fuck that is a good trope. Never seen it done badly. Pour that shit on a table and I'll chop it into lines and snort it.
