“And it was great, Sam. He always made sure that I got off twice as hard as he did.” Dean pauses, something vicious glinting in his narrowed eyes. “Sometimes I’d scream when he fucked me, because it was just that good. Actually, you know what? He was the best I ever had.”

“Dean, please.” Sam covers his mouth. Every word is like a knife twisting in his gut.

“And he said I was the best he ever had as well.” A smile creeps across Dean’s lips, hollow and satisfied. “Now, tell me. Does that still sound so bad to you?”.

Sam is locked in place with an emotion he can’t identify. Beyond anger, beyond disgust. Beyond anything else he’s ever felt in his life. He can hardly see straight.

“What’s the matter, Sammy? Not feeling so clever now? Not so holier than fucking thou?” He lowers his voice. “Just so we’re clear, let me reiterate: I loved fucking Dad. And he loved fucking me.”

“I hate you,” Sam barely manages to whisper.

“Aw, really?” Dean smirks. “What is it, Sam, huh? You jealous or something?”

Sam snaps.

He bares his teeth and punches Dean so hard that his eyes lose their focus and he can almost feel Dean’s lip rupturing beneath his knuckles. He hits the ground with a thud so satisfying Sam can feel it in the deepest recesses of his bones. Dean glares up at him through bloody fingers, prodding at his split lip, but he doesn’t get up to hit Sam back.

unflinching, miserable, cataclysmic, ruinous. this is winchester dysfunction at its most lethal. it's imbued in everything. it's right at the surface, it bubbles there, it's acrid and acidic. there is no soft landing here, it's a rough tumble the whole way down. there is no easy, clean fix. it sits in the mess, in the secrets, in the perversion, in the wake of hurt it leaves behind. a sharp, stinging depiction of grief and how ugly it can be. the horror of the family, the horror of the brother and the son and the father and the lover. it's beautiful and devastating and so kind to the ways pain changes us even if it doesn't feel like it. just pure, simple human condition. read it, for the love of god.

Yes yes yes!! For me what makes his normie arc with Lisa so compelling is that he wanted it in a way -- the way where he grew up seeing John in such deep deep mourning of exactly that life, the beloved wife and the kids and mowing the lawn etc etc that Dean saw it as The Ideal -- and he was genuinely fond of Lisa (and she was of him). But by the time Dean got there it was a) done as a promise to Sam and not of his own volition, and b) he had been so far out of normal life for so long, he couldn't figure out how to feel good about it in his bones.

I really enjoyed Lisa as a character, and I think there's a lot to get out of her relationship with Dean and how they both knew the whole time, deep down, that it was companionship and support more than anything else. Lisa saw that expiry date coming even though Dean was doing his best to do right by her and Ben. The whole thing is incredibly tragic and you only get that by recognizing that it's something Dean longed for at some point, saw the potential for in his life (thinking about growing old with Cassie!!), and it just got more and more evident it wasn't going to happen. Hence him throwing in full-bore with bunker domesticity because that's the version he gets to have.

if you call yourself a deangirl or even claim to like him, but cannot stand the thought of him being anything outside of his family or sam. i don’t think you actually like him or even know him.

sooo crazy to think about how all first three supernatural showrunners were jewish (life on this planet is all that matters, heaven is a false dream and a bit of fascist state) and then BAM. mormon andrew dabb. heaven ending = happy ending. kill the protagonist. his cruel father lives down a sunlit road. peace forever (what’s free will again?)
