Benioff and Weiss had Arya sailing away on a boat at the end because according to them Arya’s story over 5 books is her having ‘cool badass’ adventures!
It’s bad writing, it’s NOT THE BOOKS, and anyone trying to argue that the show’s ending for Arya is going to be her book ending should be embarrassed to call themselves a reader of ASoIaF.
This is how David Benioff and Dan Weiss described Arya’s arc in the books, downplaying Arya’s trauma and suffering in order to prop up Sansa.
Benioff: [Sansa] just seems really believable, and also she goes on one of the most interesting journeys, because she doesn’t start out as someone who is sharp, and shrewd and tough, but she becomes that person.
Arya is kind of always there—which is what’s great about Arya—but Sansa had to get there by painful experiences. She’s always been one of my favorite characters.
Weiss: In a way, Sansa has to face harder choices. Arya always has a pretty clear path, like: “What’s a cool, badass thing to do and I’m going to do that thing.”
Benioff and Weiss haven’t a) Read the books. At the Oxford Union discussion they didn’t know Sam Tarly was a POV character until John Bradley told them!
or b) Don’t understand the themes and character arcs that the author is telling in his story. Remember according to them ‘Themes are for 8th grade book reports’ and not important.
or c) Have read the books, and yet don’t care about the story GRRM is saying, instead putting their own spin to write based on the actors.
Meanwhile Book Arya:
“She could feel the hole inside her every morning when she woke. … It was a hollow place, an emptiness where her heart had been, where her brothers had lived, and her parents. … The hole will never feel any better, she told herself when she went to sleep.
Some mornings Arya did not want to wake at all. … If the Hound would only have left her alone, she would have slept all day and all night.” (Arya XII, ASOS)
“She could feel the hole inside her where her heart had been.” (Arya II, AFFC)
Just a reminder that in the books Arya Stark goes through an absolutely harrowing and traumatizing journey after she flees KL and the Lannister guards send after her by Cersei.
TWoW Arya:
Half-light filled the room, grey and gloomy. Shivering, she sat up in bed and ran a hand across her scalp. Stubble bristled against her palm. I need to shave before Izembaro sees. Mercy, I’m Mercy, and tonight I’ll be raped and murdered. Her true name was Mercedene, but Mercy was all anyone ever called her…
Dan Weiss reading 11 year old Arya shaving her head, getting ready to be raped in a play - ‘Wow, this is so cool and badass!
Also, the way they talk about Arya having a clear path and no hard choices to make, meanwhile:
Arya watched them die and did nothing. What good did it do you to be brave? One of the women picked for questioning had tried to be brave, but she had died screaming like all the rest. There were no brave people on that march, only scared and hungry ones. - Arya, ACoK
Arya deciding to make her escape from Harrenhal, Arya deciding to rescue Gendry at great risk, Arya taking along Weasel at great risk, Arya being ordered to kill the insurance agent, Arya deciding to keep Needle. And these hacks think that Arya has a clear path and no hard choices?!
Dan Weiss about Needle:
Arya’s gotten very good at letting go, she’s been forced to let go of everything that means anything to her in this r53world. And she does a great job getting rid of that costume and getting rid of her money and getting rid of the coin, but Needle was a very, very special gift. She sees herself as an instrument of revenge in many ways in this world and that sword is the way she’s going to exact that revenge on the people who wronged her family. It’s the instrument of that revenge. Letting go of Needle would really be letting go of Arya Stark, and the fact that she can’t let go of Needle makes it clear to us that she’s not at all ready to be no one.
In the books:
Needle was Winterfell’s grey walls, and the laughter of its people. Needle was the summer snows, Old Nan’s stories, the heart tree with its red leaves and scary face, the warm earthy smell of the glass gardens, the sound of the north wind rattling the shutters of her room. Needle was Jon Snow’s smile.
Polliver had stolen the sword from her when the Mountain’s men took her captive, but when she and the Hound walked into the inn at the crossroads, there it was. The gods wanted me to have it. Not the Seven, nor Him of Many Faces, but her father’s gods, the old gods of the north. The Many-Faced God can have the rest, she thought, but he can’t have this. - Arya, AFfC
GRRM about Arya and Needle:
- Needle! The last link to Winterfell and Arya. The Faceless Men want her to give it up because they recognize it’s importance.
Arya is missing her family and home in KL right from her second POV chapter in AGoT!
The rest of the time, they ate in his solar, just him and her and Sansa. That was when Arya missed her brothers most. She wanted to tease Bran and play with baby Rickon and have Robb smile at her. She wanted Jon to muss up her hair and call her “little sister” and finish her sentences with her. But all of them were gone. [—]
Arya had loved nothing better than to sit at her father’s table and listen to them talk. She had loved listening to the men on the benches too; to freeriders tough as leather, courtly knights and bold young squires, grizzled old men-at-arms. She used to throw snowballs at them and help them steal pies from the kitchen. Their wives gave her scones and she invented names for their babies and played monsters-and maidens and hide-the-treasure and come-into-my-castle with their children. [–]
Only that was Winterfell, a world away, and now everything was changed. This was the first time they had supped with the men since arriving in King’s Landing. Arya hated it. - Arya, AGoT
Arya missing her home and family in every book, wanting to desperately go home, trying her very best to first get to Robb and Cat and then Jon Snow and failing and losing hope and only being with the FM because as GRRM says’ where else does she have to turn to’.
And Jon is waiting for her in the North. The two characters with the closest bond. Jon is trying to save her. There’s an entire plot about the North rising up for Arya Stark.
It’s very, very clear that Benioff and Weiss didn’t care to understand Arya as a character, weren’t interested in writing for her other than as a one-dimensional killer/assassin having bad-ass adventures and the final insult being Michelle Clapton saying that Arya was just passing through when talking about Arya finally, finally getting to Winterfell as reason for why Sansa gets all the Stark sigils and clothing and not Arya.
They sidelined the Starkiest Stark - Arya - and Bran and Jon and killed off Rickon so that they could turn Sansa into The Stark ™
Reminder from D&D themselves:
and GRRM:
#Arya Stark#anti GOT#anti D&D#asoiaf#they totally ruined Arya#my precious bbgirl#can't wait for her to step up after returning to Westeros and change the whole scenario

bran stark appreciation month 2022 → day 8: summer
now you know, the crow whispered as it sat on his shoulder. now you know why you must live. “why?” bran said, not understanding, falling, falling. because winter is coming.
***
a pair of yellow eyes looked into his own, shining like the sun. the window was open and it was cold in the room, but the warmth that came off the wolf enfolded him like a hot bath. his pup, bran realized … or was it? he was so big now. he reached out to pet him, his hand trembling like a leaf. when his brother robb burst into the room, breathless from his dash up the tower steps, the direwolf was licking bran’s face. bran looked up calmly. “his name is summer,” he said.

Chapters of A Song of Ice & Fire - A Storm of Swords - Samwell III “Old gods, hear my prayer. The Seven were my father’s gods but I said my words to you when I joined the Watch. Help us now. I fear we might be lost. We’re hungry too, and so cold. I don’t know what gods I believe in now, but…please, if you’re there, help us. Gilly has a little son.” That was all he could think to say. The dusk was deepening, the leaves of the weirwood rustling softly, waving like a thousand blood-red hands. Whether Jon’s gods had heard him or not he could not say.

Since Dany is not gonna get mad anytime soon, do you think Tyrion is the one with the corruption arc in the series? We have a lot of characters getting better with time (Jaime, Theon, Sandor, etc) but there are hardly any characters that become worse (i guess Cersei but i mean a good to bad trajectory)...
I don't see any of the main characters having simple corruption arcs so much as I think their developments will have high points and low points. Tyrion is at a low point right now, and I get the feeling Jon will be at one pretty soon too (once he gets over the whole being dead thing).
It also might depend on how we define "corruption". If it's just going from good to bad, I don't think it fits any of the characters very well, though I suppose you could apply it to Tyrion's fall from grace and current "fuck the world" attitude. The thing is, I'm sure that attitude is going to be challenged consistently by characters like Penny and Daenerys, which could make it difficult for Tyrion to suppress any sparks of compassion that might flicker as the story continues.
On that note, I'll say the best character development, whether positive or negative, comes from pre-existing character traits. Cersei loathing her patriarchal system is a result of her self-centeredness; misogyny is bad (yes), but only when it affects her (no), and also fuck all those other weak women (yikes). When it comes to our main POVs, I think their darker moments will arise from traits we've already seen; Arya's sense of justice, Bran's desire for freedom, Sansa's romantic nature, Daenerys's passion, Jon's pragmatism. All these qualities have potential to be good or bad depending on how the characters's motives shift. We see this with Tyrion, who continues to be strategic and intelligent, but who has been encouraged by recent events to use that to harm people he hates rather than help people he loves.
That's why I believe the struggle for our main characters in TWOW will come down to their priorities. Daenerys's passion in Essos will be to help oppressed human beings, but she may have a more prominent internal struggle when she heads to Westeros, where the Iron Throne presents a less worthy goal. I'd bet good money that Jon will strongly parallel Tyrion's ADWD mindset where he no longer prioritizes any worthy goal, opting instead for a "fuck the world" rationale and likely causing a deal of harm in doing so.
And as uncomfortable as I'm sure it will be to read these darker moments where the characters seem to have lost themselves, I think it's not only going to be necessary but overall more impactful. Character development shouldn't only go up or down; we need to see the bumps on the road for it to be meaningful, and sometimes those bumps need to be pretty damn big. The ultimate test is whether our story's heroes can make it out with a renewed sense of clarity and dedicate themselves to the goodness that's been present since the beginning. The titles of the last two books are entirely intentional and a little on the nose, in that sense: you endure the winds of winter with a dream of spring. It's not just about doing the right things, but doing them for the right reasons, and I think the protagonists realize that due to their good and their bad experiences.

I don’t know shit about gif making but y’all’s funky little moving pictures be bringing me so much serotonin. They’re so pretty and then y’all notice these cool parallels in the shows and make gifs from them. And when y’all think of quotes and song lyrics that perfectly match characters/ships/scenes??? Iconic. And your gifs make me notice little details in the show that I didn’t always catch from watching it in real time or just let me relive some of my favorite scenes in a new and creative way. Anyway y’all are the best. Shoutout to the gif makers.

So, India is dying.
Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.
If you can't do anything else, please just read and reblog.
A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.
There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.
There is no plan.
Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.
Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.
We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.
This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.
We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.
People are dying.
People are dying.
People are dying and there is no plan.
More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.
My country is on the verge of an emergency state. Our government has failed us. This is as dire a situation as it ever could be.
Look. I don't do much with my life. I write fics, some of you have read them and that's pretty much it. I spend my days with my head in the clouds because that's where I like to be.
But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.
She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.
So, here I am, using whatever meager platform I have to cobble this request together. Because I have to do something.
If you can, donate.
Or spread the word.
Help. Please.
#please donate or at least share if you can!!!#the situation is alarming here truly horrible!!#please do share!#covid19#pandemic response#coronavirus india#India

game of thrones meme: one queen/king →The King in the North
Gods be good, why would any man ever want to be king? When everyone was shouting King in the North, King in the North, I told myself … swore to myself … that I would be a good king, as honorable as Father, strong, just, loyal to my friends and brave when I faced my enemies … now I can’t even tell one from the other. How did it all get so confused?

UNDER THE LENS : Eddard I, A Game of Thrones
Eddard I, A Game of Thrones, starts with the arrival of King Robert Baratheon and his retinue to Winterfell and ends in the crypts where the dead Lords of the castle stare with disapproving eyes as Robert asks Ned Stark to be his Hand.
• Tyrion is present in the King's party and not lingering in a brothel when we see him for the first time in the series. Tyrion is in the Winterfell library when we first see him in his own PoV. Book! Tyrion does frequent brothels often but it speaks volumes about what the author wanted the reader's first impression of Tyrion to be in contrast to how the writers of Thrones wanted to present Tyrion to the viewers for the first time.
• I know that this excerpt is often considered as foreshadowing for Jon Snow becoming King:
Ned jested [...] “Kings are a rare sight in the north.”
Robert snorted. “More likely they were hiding under the snow. Snow, Ned!”
But also it's ironic that Ned says Kings are a rare sight in the North when his own son Robb will soon be declared King in the North although Ned himself wouldn't be alive to see it :(
• This PoV is rich in imagery/references to the dead Starks, the crypts, the Others but also it provides hope : hope that the Starks will eventually triumph against against all odds :
“The Others take your mild snows,” Robert swore. “What will this place be like in winter? I shudder to think.”
“The winters are hard,” Ned admitted. “But the Starks will endure. We always have.”
Unbeknownst to Robert, his words will come true - the Others will take away the mild snows and bring a much harsher & fiercer winter which the readers will shudder to read about in A Dream of Spring.
Later when Ned tells Robert to return to the castle from the crypts as his wife would surely be waiting, Robert says, “The Others take my wife,” - will this come true as well? (This actually reminds me of a favorite personal theory of mine which I was lowkey hoping to see in the show - Jaime would kill Cersei after being converted to a wight, thereby fulfilling the prophecy of the valonqar making it seem less like a heroic deed on Jaime's part and more like a gruesome one!)
• George does an excellent job of giving the crypts of Winterfell a very horror filled mystical vibe in this PoV - the crypts are almost personified in every other line starting from the very stairs leading down to them :
He could feel the chill coming up the stairs, a cold breath from deep within the earth.
[...]
He swept the lantern in a wide semicircle. Shadows moved and lurched.
The stone statues in the crypts seem to come alive eerily as the light from Ned's lantern illuminate them:
The shifting shadows made the stone figures seem to stir as the living passed by.
When Robert laughs uproariously at a joke, his laughter echoes through the darkness and :
[...] all around them the dead of Winterfell seemed to watch with cold and disapproving eyes.
In fact, George chooses to end the chapter on a very ominous note, as if the inhabitants of the crypt know the fate of Ned if he fulfils Robert's wish to be his Hand:
He looked at the stone figures all around them, breathed deep in the chill silence of the crypt. He could feel the eyes of the dead. They were all listening, he knew. And winter was coming.
• Jon Snow's parentage has long been a subject of discussion and debate in the fandom. Although it's widely believed that he is Rhaegar's son, other theories claim that he is Ned and Ashara's son.
Robert Baratheon had always been a man of huge appetites, a man who knew how to take his pleasures. That was not a charge anyone could lay at the door of Eddard Stark.
If Ned had really been with Ashara and birthed Jon as a bastard, it's unlikely that he would think along these lines. Although the events occuring at the Tower of Joy unfold later as a part of Ned's fever dream, in this PoV, he distinctly recalls Lyanna in his full senses beseeching him to promise her something (it might not be about a son, some might argue, but then what is the 'promise' all about? It definitely seems like a dead end if it's not about Jon.)
• Aside from their beauty and wildness, one Arya/Lyanna parallel I always really liked was when Arya searched for some purple and green flowers & brought them to Ned while they were crossing the Neck on their way to King's Landing. This would have undoubtedly reminded Ned of Lyanna:
“I bring her flowers when I can,” he said. “Lyanna was…fond of flowers.”
• The long dead lords of Winterfell are associated with further ominous symbolism:
By ancient custom an iron longsword had been laid across the lap of each who had been Lord of Winterfell, to keep the vengeful spirits in their crypts. The oldest had long ago rusted away to nothing, leaving only a few red stains where the metal had rested on stone. Ned wondered if that meant those ghosts were free to roam the castle now.
Not only would the iron longswords keep the dead Lords at bay, they would protect any possible people hiding in the crypts from the Others as well! As Old Nan puts it:
“They [the Others] were cold things, dead things, that hated iron and fireand the touch of the sun...”
Interestingly, some swords are missing from the stone statues currently as they were taken by Bran and his companions while fleeing from the ruined castle.
• Early on in the series, it becomes evident that Rhaegar did not rape Lyanna; Ned doesn't harbour any ill thoughts about Rhaegar when Robert speaks about him. Furthermore, he remains silent & his inner monologue provides no ill feelings about the silver prince :
“In my dreams, I kill him every night,” Robert admitted. “A thousand deaths will still be less than he deserves.”
There was nothing Ned could say to that.
• Rhaegar's rubies are brought up time and again in the series with various people actively seeking them out:
When Ned had finally come on the scene, Rhaegar lay dead in the stream, while men of both armies scrabbled in the swirling waters for rubies knocked free of his armor.
Arya and Mycah later team up to look for Rhaegar's rubies on the ford and later in A Feast for Crows, the Elder Brother informs Brienne that six rubies have been washed up with the water. Might these rubies have any significance in the future? Can they be used as a glamour by someone to appear as Rhaegar?
• The Starks belong to Winterfell and Winterfell belongs to the Starks:
For a moment Eddard Stark was filled with a terrible sense of foreboding. This was his place, here in the north.
This is why, I feel extremely skeptical whenever I hear of King Bran endgame in the books. Bran is a Stark through and through, he is connected to Winterfell & the North like no one else. All signs point to him being King in the North rather than of entire Westeros. This is also why Sansa as Lady of the Vale in the end seems unlikely unless she marries someone from the Vale, given that Sansa herself has no claim to the Vale.
TRIVIA :
• Cersei Lannister rode to Winterfell in a wheelhouse pulled by forty (40) horses. It was too wide to pass through the gates of Winterfell.
• King Robert brought fruits from Highgarden for Ned to taste.

Lady Ashara Dayne was a noblewoman of House Dayne, lady in waiting to Princess Elia Martell, and lady of Starfall. She was the sister of Ali Dayne, Lord of Starfall, Ser Arthur Dayne, and Lady Allyria Dayne. When she was presented at Harrenhal, she danced with Ser Barriastan Selmy, Prince Oberyn Martell, and Lord Jon Connington. She also danced with Eddard Stark, after his brother Brandon spoke with her. According to rumors and Allyria Dayne, it is said that Ashara and Eddard loved one another, and that Barriastan was also in love with Ashara but he never told her. It’s speculated that at Harrenhal someone had dishonored her. After the Tower of Joy, Eddard Stark went to inform House Dayne of Arthur’s death and presented Ashara with Arthur’s sword, Dawn. After this meeting, Ashara had jumped from the top of Palestone Sword; a tower in Starfall, and into the sea to her death. It is said she died of a broken heart, a stillborn child, a stolen child, or of Arthur’s death. The body of the fallen star was unfortunately never found. When Eddard had returned to Winterfell with Jon Snow, rumors sparked that Ashara Dayne was his mother and that her lover killing her brother led to her suicide. However this remains only a rumor, and Lord Stark ended all talk of such a thing. Ashara Dayne is remembered for her great beauty, such as her dark hair and haunting violet eyes.

UNDER THE LENS : Daenerys I, A Game of Thrones
The first perspective of Daenerys Targaryen opens in Magister Illyrio's manse at Pentos, where we meet the last scions of House Targaryen and get a glimpse of the contrasting traits, dreams and ambitions of the two siblings even as the chapter ends with a step forward in the narrative of the future mother of dragons.
• Probably no PoV other than her very first one does a better job of showing us exactly what Dany really wants - momentarily and for her future:
Dany could hear [...] the shouts of ragged children playing games beyond the walls of the estate. For a moment she wished she could be out there with them, barefoot and breathless and dressed in tatters, with no past and no future...
The text explicitly says that the Iron Throne & the lost glory of the Targaryens was something exclusive to Viserys' desire - not his sister's:
Viserys lived for that day.
It's absurd to claim that Daenerys would have rejected an opportunity to return to Westeros & reclaim the prosperity of her house at this point in the narrative but Martin does sharply contrast Viserys' desire with that of his sister's in the very next sentence :
All that Daenerys wanted back was the big house with the red door, the lemon tree outside her window, the childhood she had never known.
• The house with the red door looms large on Dany's innermost desires not only in A Game of Thrones but in her journey throughout the series. There have been various speculations on this house and its location, even some theorizing that it exists only as a figment of her imagination. But Daenerys recalls her emotions surrounding the red door with sharp clarity :
After Ser Willem had died, the servants had stolen what little money they had left, and soon after they had been put out of the big house. Dany had cried when the red door closed behind them forever.
Of course, one might argue that Daenerys was younger and she might not be recalling certain things correctly. But that begs the question - which parts of her childhood memories are trustworthy & which parts are not?
• One thing which captured my attention early on in the chapter was the fact that Daenerys is far more observant, intuitive & wary of everything offered to her compared to her older brother :
“Why does he give us so much?” she asked. “What does he want from us?” For nigh on half a year, they had lived in the magister’s house, eating his food, pampered by his servants. Dany was thirteen, old enough to know that such gifts seldom come without their price, here in the free city of Pentos.
Dany is right to be wary of Illyrio though, She even thinks back to the words spoken of Illyrio in the streets - 'he’d never had a friend he wouldn’t cheerfully sell for the right price.' When Illyrio assures Viserys that the common people of Westeros are sewing dragon banners & awaiting his return, she knows better than to hang on to his every word:
Dany had no agents, no way of knowing what anyone was doing or thinking across the narrow sea, but she mistrusted Illyrio’s sweet words as she mistrusted everything about Illyrio.
When Viserys vows to kill powerful people like Jaime Lannister and Robert Baratheon, Daenerys is quick to note Illyrio's reaction, which her brother misses:
Dany saw the smallest hint of a smile playing around his full lips, but her brother did not notice.
• As much as Viserys is and should be criticized by the readers for his abusive behavior, this chapter lays out the psychological basis for his behavior and makes me feel somewhat sympathetic for him. Viserys is essentially stuck in the past even though the events occuring around his escape from Westeros has long transpired:
Nodding, he pushed back a curtain and stared off into the night, and Dany knew he was fighting the Battle of the Trident once again.
He is desperate to reclaim the glory and power of House Targaryen (which is essentially why he arranges Dany's match with Drogo):
“We will have it all back someday, sweet sister,” he would promise her. Sometimes his hands shook when he talked about it. “The jewels and the silks, Dragonstone and King’s Landing, the Iron Throne and the Seven Kingdoms, all they have taken from us, we will have it back.”
Though he spins his own 'web of dreams', Viserys is not as confident as he might appear at first glance - his resolution wavers at times & he looks for reassurance from Illyrio to validate his desires and plans:
“The realm will rise for its rightful king. [...] And the smallfolk will be with us. They cry out for their king.” He looked at Illyrio anxiously. “They do, don’t they?”
• Daenerys shares a number of parallels with Tyrion Lannister (widely believed to be one of the three heads of the dragon with good reason). This sentence, in particular, sharply reminded me of the dynamic between Tyrion and Cersei:
Her mother had died birthing her, and for that her brother Viserys had never forgiven her.
Much like Viserys did to Daenerys, Cersei too has physically abused Tyrion (on more than one occasion, I dare say)
• This PoV introduces us to slaves for the first time in the series. Daenerys is astute enough to note that :
Illyrio’s servants entered, bowed, and set about their business. They were slaves, a gift from one of the magister’s many Dothraki friends. There was no slavery in the free city of Pentos. Nonetheless, they were slaves.
These are the servants (or rather slaves) who inform Dany of the many slaves working under Khal Drogo :
“Drogo is so rich that even his slaves wear golden collars...”
What many people seem to forget along the line is that Dany did not randomly take pity on slaves along her journey and decide to free them. Her revolution to end this horrible tradition stems from her own experience : she was essentially sold as a slave to Drogo. Even in her very first PoV, she is made to wear a collar before meeting Drogo - a very fancy collar but a collar nonetheless:
Last of all came the collar, a heavy golden torc emblazoned with ancient Valyrian glyphs.
• Obviously the Targaryens are not fireproof but they are resistant to heat to some extent. Will this come in useful for Daenerys in the future?
The water was scalding hot, but Daenerys did not flinch or cry out. She liked the heat. It made her feel clean.
• It's interesting that Viserys refers to Khal Drogo as 'Aegon the Dragonlord come again', while later on Tyrion Lannister refers to Daenerys herself as 'Aegon the Conqueror with teats'.
(I think it's high time antis stop denying that if Daenerys is to be compared to any of her forebears, it's Aegon the Conqueror, NOT Aerys the Mad King and if she is to be compared to any of her brothers, it's Rhaegar, NOT Viserys. Martin does a really good job of pointing out these comparisons throughout the series)
TRIVIA :
• Daenerys meets the Unsullied for the first time in her very first PoV.
• Magister Illyrio possesses a menagerie (which boasts of a panther among other animals).
