Every time I read AGOT I’m blown away by just how beautiful the writing in the opening prologue is.
The description of the wights and the last stand heroism of Waymar Royce is what drew me into the story in the first place.

Jon III of agot and Jon XIII of adwd are such brilliant inverses of each other. The Night’s Brothers teasing Jon as Lord Snow vs Jon actually coming into that name and being in an actual position of power. Jon being warned that if he continued to be blind to his privilege his Brothers might kill him vs Jon actually being stabbed because he wanted better governance, which the Brothers took as to him looking down on them. Jon deeply missing his siblings, especially arya vs his last thoughts being of his siblings, and leaving the nights watch because of arya. Jon being singularly lonely and only just starting to make friends vs Jon becoming lonely because of his position only to be betrayed by the same people in the end. Oh mirrors, oh mirrors.

The tourney of the hand was lowkey westeros’ silliest most low stakes tourney ever like you’ve got
- Sansa gambling on mma unsupervised cause septa mordane is too hungover to attend and Ned is… idk detectiving
-Sansa nlog moment where she literally forgets Jeyne exists shes so into the mma
-Jaime getting literally getting stuck in his own armor
Tumblr media
- People’s heavyweight champ Sandor Clegane
- Biggest event of the whole tourney is the Clegane bros trying to kill eachother aka Sandor’s normal Tuesday

@gameofthronesdaily event 01: favorite character(s) daenerys stormborn
Ser Jorah took her arm. "My queen, Drogo will have no use for dragon's eggs in the night lands. Better to sell them in Asshai. Sell one and we can buy a ship to take us back to the Free Cities. Sell all three and you will be a wealthy woman all your days." "They were not given to me to sell," Dany told him.

sansa and ned’s parallels are one of my favorite parts of the series (mainly because i really only think about house stark), but like its so obvious and yet some people just. don’t see it? They tend to just think arya is more like ned because she is tomboyish and likes traditionally masculine things, while sansa is feminine so she’s like catelyn because woman??
anyways sansa is ned’s narrative heir and if she’s following in his footsteps as an unlikely heir of winterfell well! we know whose gonna be queen in the north by the end.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the sheer volume of cantankerous bullshit in this passage. Little finger is behind the Jon Arryn murder plot line, the very thing that leads Ned to discover the illegitimacy of Robert's kids and LF is like: "forget about Stannis and all that and just marry your kids off to each of the Lannister abominations and if Joffery proves to be too troublesome in 4 years time, reveal that he's the product of an illegal incestous liason between the Queen and a kingsguard but not before killing Stannis, and installing Renly on the throne 😊." As if none of these suggestions carry the implication of war itself. I am convinced that George was high when he came up with this plotline.

That should be enough for any woman … but not for the dragon. With Viserys gone, Daenerys was the last, the very last. She was the seed of kings and conquerors, and so too the child inside her. She must not forget.
DAENAERYS THAT'S THE DYNASTIC ROT TALKING!! DAENAERYS NO!! IGNORE THE DYANSTIC ROT PLEASE!!

1. have not have jousted even with a gun to his head he knows his strengths
2. have took on thoros and beat his ass in the melee bc flame sword? lol okay hack. relying on a gimmick. cringe.

I love that tyrion is charming in agot even when he's in captivity - like he's in trouble? CRANK UP THE CHARM. and it works!! there's so many small instances of tyrion's charm working on people in little ways (brynden blackfish has smiled at him twice and made a joke, and there's nothing to indicate that he's vicious about it, for ex.). the man has insanely high charisma and I love it

Illyrio never intended for Viserys to get the crown from the start, did he?

It took me this long to get it.
Daenerys Stormborn. Was born during a terrible summer storm that nearly destroyed Dragonstone castle (I'm rereading AGoT in translation so I don't have the exact quote right now).
In a world where every any little detail can become an omen, where we know that something bad gonna happen with Starks just because a stag killed a direwolf in the very first chapter - our POV character, this little princess, was born during a storm so horrible that they called her Stormborn (I'm sure if it was just an usual storm people wouldn't pay attention to that but this one - as Daenerys informs us in her first chapter - nearly destroyed a massive Dragonstone castle and completely destroyed Targaryen fleet). Also her mother died while giving birth to her.
From her first pages you should associate her with destruction. Not with salvation.
It funny to think about this nowadays. I remember her being praised everywhere, and every "Top 10 badass Daenerys moments" started with her long fantasy name and no one even thought of the "Stormborn" part and its meaning.
I'm sure GRRM had so much fun watching all of this "praise the progressive fantasy princess" era when he warned us about her in the 3rd chapter.

"Everyone talks about snows forty foot deep, and how the ice wind comes howling out of the north, but the real enemy is the cold. It steals up on you quieter than Will, and at first you shiver and your teeth chatter and you stamp your feet and dream of mulled wine and nice hot fires. It burns, it does. Nothing burns like the cold."
George R. R. Martin, A Game of Thrones - Prologue
