Main Characters
Link, pt1, around 5-7 y/o
|~|
Hooray, we’re finally getting into main character land! Currently, Link will have about 3 ref sheets, one for each era of his life. Aka the pre-military years, military years, and post-military years, just for ease of dividing them up. I’m planning on posting some drawn scenes from the fic as well, but this will just be basic information and stuff.
Tumblr media
About some things: His earring was bought from a merchant at the Koholint market, which Link bought for himself with his own money. The pack he carries is enchanted to carry around a lot more than it should, and could probably hold a shortsword or two. Mostly, he uses it to carry around his arts and crafts supplies, like a sewing kit, some pencils and pens, paper, and the like. He wears the gloves specifically to cover up the triforce mark on his left hand. How did he get it so early? Well, the gods hate him to the finest degree, of course! Don’t worry, Zelda has one too. His bandana quadruples as the thing on his arm I don’t actually have any idea the name of, a mask, headwear, and neckwear. The island lobster shirt was made by his mother, and was inspired by the Hero of the Wind story(this will be explained how this survived so long and just how much this story has changed over time in the myths section when i get around to posting it), which is his favorite tale out of every “made up” Hero’s story passed around through the ages.
Yeah uh that’s probably enough information for now. The next ref sheet will probably be Link part 2, military edition, but that’s currently unfinished so it might be a while. Expect more in the Hyrule section soon, though! I still have a lot of things regarding that saved up.

Fun Fact #2!
rainbow propaganda
|~| Link and Life are both aroallo, who has time for romance when you’re busy not dying and trying to save the world and learning how to exist in general? Captain Cynos is demiromantic, and Captain Rashen doesn’t really give a fuck about gender but still uses she/her pronouns, and would probably kiss anyone because no one has the time to question that. Zelda just in general hates people and finds most of everyone she’s ever talked to repulsive mostly because most of the people she’s talked to are weird old guys trying to get money out of her father, but still hates people nonetheless. She also hates Link but in a friendly sibling sort of way.
Don’t know who any of these people are? Haha yeah i haven’t posted about them yet…. but you know this about them now! ✧ദ്ദി( ˶^ᗜ^˶ )

Fun Facts! #1
The modern day hylians
|~|
This AU takes place very far into the future, thus, various changes to everything have been made. The most important of these is the fact that both the hylian and gerudo races have merged to form one, the modern day hylians we see throughout Hyrule. Differing greatly to both, regarding the fact that there’s more women than men or heights or skin or hair, neither old hylians or gerudo look quite like they would today. Most commonly they sport red-coloured hair, dark skin, and average about 6’4” height wise. During this change both languages merged to something new, adopting traits from both.
This will be explained further when we get to expanding in on the races of Hyrule! For now just some bare bones info and some context since hylians aren’t my priority right now. Also, this Hyrule has no desert area, since most of it is flooded. Yea.

Maps pt2, the depths
Tumblr media
Landmark/Settlement List: Abandoned Rito Mine, Hebra Central Light Source, Abandoned Rito Settlement, Gorondia, Gorondia Light Source, Hylian Settlement, Hyrule Central Light Source, Zorana Central Light Source, Zoran Settlement
Abandoned Rito Mine- A mine that has transcended history. It’s not much but ruins, and was made before Hebra had been turned into an island and the Rito still inhabited it. There’s probably not much left, but since the only entrance to the Hebra depths region is incredibly dangerous to go through, that could be the opposite.
Hebra Central Light Source- A light source feeding off of the magic on the surface to brighten the Hebra depths region. It’s made of a mix of technology, magic, and anything else someone could find that would create a light source powerful enough to brighten so much land. There’s only one, and it’s evenly lights up the entirety of the Hebra depths. No one really knows how these light sources work, or who made them, but everyone’s grateful nonetheless.
Abandoned Rito Settlement- Due to the Rito fleeing the Hebra region, everything had been left behind. This included in-progress settlements in the depths. There was only ever one found, and the Rito have been living at Death Mountain for as long as many can remember, so its origins are mysterious ever so slightly.
Gorondia- A fiery city in the depths where the Gorons had moved to after the freezing of Death Mountain. It’s the largest settlement in the depths by a very, very big long shot and where over 90% of Gorons live. The name Gorondia is an ancient name, one only standing the tests of time because no Goron saw the need to change it at any point. It’s hot, but some areas are safe for other races. Most are not.
Gorondia Light Source- Like the Hebra Light Source, it’s built almost exactly the same except for the fact it’s built to be heat resistant, while the one in Hebra is cold resistant. It lights up all of the north side of the Central Hyrule depths, and fizzles out right before the Hyrule Light Source starts. This creates a line of pitch-darkness that people have to travel through, and the stretch is inhabited by various monsters.
Hylian Settlement- A small but active settlement built under Hyrule Castle and Castle town. It’s most popular inhabitants are Hylians, but have mixes of others as well due to inter-race environmental friendliness. There’s a large, hylian-made pond of water in the center, the rest of the town being built around that. It’s about half the size of Castle Town.
Hyrule Central Light Source- It’s much the same of any other light source, just in a different place this time. It’s not built to be resistant to temperatures besides the basics, since Central Hyrule is a relatively tame area and it doesn’t rain in the depths like it does on the surface.
Zorana Central Light Source- Light source for the Zoran region. Again, much the same as any other light source. It’s not built to be water-resistant, since water isn’t exactly supposed to exist in the depths. The Zora found a way anyway, because why not?
Zoran Settlement- A small but pretty town. It’s full of waterworks, made similar in style to the domains on the surface. Only a small percent of Zora actually live here, since the domains above are much more freeing, but other races use it freely as both sort of a water park and as living or vacation quarters.
|~|
There is another part to the Hyrule maps, but I haven’t gotten around to planning any of the skylands yet since its a very endgame place and isn’t necessary for me to start writing anything other than the end of the third part of the series. The next post will mostly start dealing with reference sheets for main characters, such as the three I have for Link, the two captains, and Life. No one knows who these people are yet but you will! This is a threat. You will learn about the crazies that have lived rent free in my head for months whether you like it or not.
That being said I’m also going to be expanding on the races as the next part in the Hyrule subsection, since the Rito have changed a lot and there are two ‘subspecies’ of Rito found throughout this universe, one of which are based on various feathered dinosaurs. Also will be expanding on the concept of mythos like the blinfolk, light-pelt lynels, and lizalfolk. There’s also a brand new race being introduced. Basically, we haven’t even gotten started, there’s so much left I haven’t done and need to draw for still. Look forward to it for all who’re watching!
In the meantime I’ll probably post a few fun facts, one of which will be directly after this since it’s the most important piece of info imo.

Maps pt1, the surface
Tumblr media
Settlement list: Lurelin, Seaside, Rito Settlements, Kakariko, Kiriga, Castle Town, Charch, Firwon, Lynel Commongrounds, Lix, Zorana, Koholint
Lurelin- A seaside village, one of the largest in Hyrule. It used to be further south, but after gradually losing much of its territory to the sea, some of the villagers including the chief of the time moved to the north where it had been starting to get warmer. This change happened a few thousand years ago, during the time of the Hero of Magic, so it is but history. The settlers left behind eventually formed Koholint when it was stable enough. People from here are easily recognized by their thick seaside accent. People often get them mixed up with their cousins down south, however. The population is about 800.
Seaside- This is a recent settlement set up by Lix Central of lizalfolk. Currently, it’s rather small, only sporting a few houses and around 20 or so residents. Nonetheless they’ve already established good relations with Lurelin and the nearby Rito settlements, and show a promising future.
Rito Settlements- A large, confusing maze of houses, landing structures, and bridges fixed to the side of the frigid Death Mountain. Every house is on stilts and connected to another by a bridge, and seems to only make sense to the Rito, who have the advantage of flight. Many Hylians think the bridges were built for their convenience, and some of the Rito think this as well, though that part of history has been lost. Overall it’s a thriving village despite the confusion to species stuck to the ground. Population is estimated to be several thousand, reaching the 10k mark.
Kakariko- A town mostly made of Sheikah, a race almost extinct that resemble Old Hylians before their merge with the Gerudo race. It’s an extremely ancient town, having been moved around many many times, and their records go back even further than the beginning of the era, to eras unknown. It’s a small farming town mostly, but every time someone goes there the residents seem to change. The Shiekah living there are a mystery to most Hylians but a welcome one. It has a population of who knows, really.
Kiriga- A small, half a century old ‘blin settlement. Its main relations are with that of its neighbors and have several trading routes set up between them. They have a somewhat rocky history with Kakariko, but that seems to have been resolved at this point in time, even having some Sheikah residents making home there. It mainly houses bokoblins but some moblins can be found as well, along with a family of three lizalfolk. Overall there are around 400 residents.
Castle Town- Hyrule’s hub for everything. It’s the capital, has a population of at least 15k of many many different species, mainly Hylians, and a bustling market. There isn’t much else to say. It's just Castle Town.
Charch- A town of lizalfolk established before Lix was. It’s one of the biggest, but has kept a steady population due to food struggles and doesn’t seem to have any interest in trade. They’re rather isolationist and keep to themselves, and don’t have anyone but lizal residents. Around 700 members.
Firwon- The cousin town to Kiriga. They’re mostly the same, have good relations with eachother, and were originally part of the same town, called Kiriwon, before they decided to split. Have a better history with Kakariko than Kiriga, but aren’t too good friends with that of Charch. Mainly inhabited by ‘blins, housing around 600.
Lynel Commongrounds- Commongrounds set up for the migration and travels of light-pelt Lynels. It’s the only territory open to other species as long as they don’t mess anything up, but doesn’t have too many houses. The highest recorded population was about 10, only 6 of which were actually Lynels. The average is closer to 4 in reality, though ever changing with the whims of the races who pass by.
Lix- The largest above-ground town besides Upland Zorana that houses lizalfolk. It’s largely shared with the Zora and Hylians, but nonetheless it’s a large town. They have strong relations with Upland Zorana, and openly have a festival every year alternating between the two settlements. Lix is split into two parts, one of which being underwater, inhabited exclusively by lizalfolk and Zora. It has a population of around 1500.
Zorana- This is actually a separate kingdom to Hyrule, ruled by the Zora. It’s split into two, the Uplands and Lowlands. Upland Zorana is a commongrounds for races who can’t breathe underwater, while the Lowlands is exclusive to Zora and lizalfolk or anyone else dumb enough to risk their life going down there. Together their population is around 20k, 15k for the Lowlands and 5k for the Uplands. Zorana had good relations with Hyrule before it fell, and don’t plan on taking it over or anything.
Koholint- The place where Link was supposed to grow up. The village itself is larger, but the population isn’t over 50 and it’s one of the most isolated in Hyrule, often forgotten about by others. They’re very similar to those from Lurelin, except they have an even thicker accent due to being so shut off from the rest of the world and they don’t get many travelers with the position they’re in. Legend has it that this is the place the Hero of Magic grew up, though at the time it had still been Lurelin. Due to this, many people often confuse it with its northern cousin town.

The Legend of Zelda: Break the Cycle Masterpost
This is an AU I’ve been working on for a very long while now, and is nothing more than a passion project I work on whenever I feel like it. There’s plenty of lore, ideas, and other things that I’ve stuffed into a google doc, which will mostly be copy-pasted onto here.
The question I plan to answer with this AU is, what happens to the Hero’s Spirit and Hyrule itself after such a long time of being tormented by and endless cycle of reincarnation? What happens when that endless routine is broken? (this is so self indulgent btw omg)

Fanfic Planning: Since this is being turned into a fic, albiet a little slowly, here’s the plans for all of that. Currently there’s plans for at least three parts, two of which have writing done for them and have titles. The first part features the end of the Era of Magic Link(the little freak running this show) from when he draws the Master Sword at five to his last teacher at the tail-end of six years old. Part two features his military years from seven to fourteen(child soldier who. sorry) and his interactions with the royal family and his captain. Part three is his actual journey to make sure the universe isn’t destroyed, or what I would say would be the playable part if this was a game. If there’s a part four, which I’m totally planning for there to be, it’s definitely going to be linked universe/linksmeet adjacent since I’ve actually already worked it into the lore. So if you’re interested in this being a weirdly long multi-part fic, you’re in luck!

Hope everyone that sees this ends up enjoying this AU as much as I have as I’ve worked on it throughout the months. Enjoy! (o^ ^o)
