BRIDGE 10’5” X 22’8” Billboard Location: 201 W Broadway, Minneapolis, MN Work will be on view until mid February ❤️🖤🤍 @redwingheritage X @jxta_arts have created a collection of limited run boots and sweatshirts. As part of this collaborative project, JXTA apprentice get hands on experience as they helped design the new line of clothing and the billboard ART takeover! Conceptually, “BRIDGE” illustrates the connection point JXTA creates for apprentice to engage with professional artists and designers. These bridges give young creatives experience and insight into these professional practices and workings. OUTSIDE-IN Screen door, Schluter Kerdi Board, hinges, bolts, nuts, washers, Photo Tex, metal grate, tape. A- 36” x 96” x 24” [ ], __ - 96” x 72” OUTSIDE-IN is a 3D monotype that is flexible in orientation. The hinges of OUTSIDE-IN are crucial for its ability to flex and acclimate to its spatial environment. The orange, grid insulation material is partially wrapped with an image of a metal roll door, connecting itself through gate hardware to a generic screen door. This work provides humor regarding its over engineered hinges, its 2D metal roll door and a non-functioning dust filled screen door. The work pulls from domestic spaces through the material use of insulation material Schluter Kerdi board, a screen door, gate hardware, and a metal grate. CORNER SIMULATION Install 35MM film . . The process of making the piece is often the work for me, the labor aspect. The unfinished frame of materials are filled with multiple possibility for finishing work, Even though there is a vision for the final outcome. When I gaze at the open framework of a home in progress, I am enamored by its openness and its ability to change aesthetic and form. EXTENSION OF U 15’ x 2’ x 3’ Asphalt felt, wood, foam, paint, grommets, screws. . . . EXTENSION OF U is a space responsive, site specific monotype that transitions the 2D U, into a 3D object balancing tension between architecture and object. The black construction materials stretch around two concrete columns forming a U shaped gesture, while the grommet punched asphalt felt snuggly fits over the screw inserted plywood to tighten itself securely through tension. EXTENSION OF U spans the length of two individual columns, hugging the cement pillars which also connects and pairs them. The vertical architecture stands in as the repeating I form that lives in other works. Columns that were once individuals are now connected by the embrace of the black building materials. LADDER H 2’ x 7’ x 2” Foam, paint, fishing line . . LADDER H uses the letter form H in repetition with itself to build a traditional ladder structure. By applying black paint to foam, the object appears heavy and strong but in actuality is vulnerable and light weight.
