In 2006, two sisters of Chinese descent opened this store in Christchurch. Before them, this great and wonderful space was used to collect clothes and anything else for the humanitarian aid. Now it is a store of fashion, furniture, art and is a space that welcomes the projects of new talented artisans and artists. A space of great research and set up with a lot of care for aesthetics and love. From the past the intentions have changed but the place continues to host people who deeply believe in what they do. Now there were the sales and this huge banner hanging from the window with the writing in red, was as powerful as the masses in manifestation. After doing almost 5,000 km in a car between Australia and New Zealand in one month, this is the only place I wanted to go back. Meanwhile it snowed. The scenario is the same. This is the church of St Patrick's. Ezio and I met today while we were driving through the New Zealand spaces. It is a small wooden church of the late nineteenth century saved by the few citizens of the country. It was open, fully furnished in the smallest details, super cozy, with lemon candies on sale, vintage postcards, flower seeds and other oddities. No human presence. This is the Byron bay beach. I loved this place. The sun was warm, the air fresh and the water of the sea very cold. I had a long bath and there were also many small transparent jellyfish. Years ago while I was reading a book in which Ceronetti talked about journeys and about the value of traveling from one place to another. I always thought this thing is true. Here in Australia we rented a car and we are moving thousands of kilometers and reaching desired and unexpected places. I saw this silver-barked tree in Australian Queensland. Years ago, a client of mine gave me an old b/w picture of a child hugging a tree. The author of the photo was unknown but the origin of the context in which it was taken was probably Russia, a country that I loved so much for his literature. A friend of mine, in front of that picture asked me if I was the child. This morning, Ezio and I left by car from Cairns to Brisbane. The trip was complicated for right-hand drive and for Australian highway signage. The most painful scene was the continuous presence of died kangaroos corpses on the side of the road. I drove for 400 km terrified by the idea of being able to kill a kangaroo. But everything is ok.
