Uluru - Australia 🇦🇺 ⠀⠀ Uluru is a 348 meter high arkose inselberg in the Northern Territory of Australia, and is one of the countries most recognisable landmarks. ⠀⠀ When visiting Uluru we watched both the sunset, and sunrise from different sides of the rock to see the varying shades of red with the various levels of sunlight. We also walked around the 9.4km circumference and I even had a helicopter over the top. Since being so far away from civilisation, the Uluru-Kata Tjuta national park is a dark sky park and a great place to get in some stargazing. While staying in the nearby tourist village, I took part in a guided tour of the night sky, where I first saw Saturn’s rings with my own eyes, something I will never forget. Uluru is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara Anangu people and you can really feel how spiritual the area is. As of October 2019, climbing Uluru will be prohibited, mainly due to disrespect but there are also dangers associated with the climb. You do not need to climb Uluru to enjoy it, you can respect and admire without upsetting anyone. Visited: August 2015 ⠀⠀ Fun fact: Uluru and Kata Tjuta are well known, but there’s a third rock called Mount Connor which appears on the horizon during the drive from Alice Springs.
