Reflection Blog For Week 2b
26 Nail Art

Painting butterflies on your nails is also a way to display butterflies, either with some specimens, or with scale colors
27 Umbrella

Holding up a giant handful of butterflies on a rainy day should be pretty cool
28 Socks

A skirt would look great with socks like these.
29 Hat

Along the same idea as the butterfly socks, the hat has a vine-like thing on it to tie to the hat
30 Hairband

Chunky hair bands like this are very popular right now, and a fabric butterfly on top would serve as a very pretty decoration. It would also look great removed and worn on the hand
31 Bracelet

After designing the ear jewelry I suddenly thought of a related bracelet jewelry. My designs have always been vines and butterflies, and it would be nice to have a bracelet like this with crushed diamonds all over it to act as thorns for the vines, and the butterflies made of diamonds have a clasp that can be fastened to the chain. You can also buy different butterflies to decorate
32 Mirror Butterfly

My friend showed me her very nice mirror. I just thought what if it was a huge metal butterfly on top, with some very nice rhinestone designs that I like, it would be very nice to take pictures of it
33 Lamp

I looked at the ceiling while I slept and thought it would be nice to have a sheet of lamps masked with a layer of board that had little butterfly holes dug into it, and the shadows of the light passing through and hitting the wall were butterflies
34 Mask

I have a bad case of rhinitis and lately I have to wear a mask when I go out but lately I've been looking at mine and it's ugly so I'm hoping there's some cute decorations on it
35 Slippers

It just came to me looking at my regular slippers.
36 Watch

This cover opens from the side, and when it opens the butterfly flutters from the front to the side
37 Glass

It came to me while I was drinking, and a butterfly on the glass seemed rather ordinary, what if that butterfly was just enough to keep the wine flowing down, as a support for the wine bottle
38 Mouse

39 Metro card

This will be very interesting, the ordinary subway card will be very boring, but if you hold a flower in your hand, there is a butterfly next to the flower inside the chip, when you pass through the subway gate, just put the flower!
40 Laptop stand

I use my computer a lot, and this butterfly protects your computer when its wings are closed and acts as a support for it when it's open!
41 Candle holder

42 Ice bar maker

This maker makes lots of butterfly shaped popsicles!
43 A chair

44 Egg maker

Also came up with the idea while cooking, using this shape you can make butterfly shaped eggs
45 A pen

This serves as an idea for some mystery boxes that customers can purchase to draw off different butterflies to decorate their pens!
46 Mobile phone

47 What if a guitar?

I don't know if this will work, it just occurred to me that the guitar itself looks a lot like a butterfly, so what if it was made entirely of a butterfly
48 Neck pillow

49 What if a butterfly theme restaurant?

A lot of the food at this restaurant is made in the shape of a butterfly
50 A car??

I would be thrilled to see a car like this out there and want to photograph it right away.
This assignment didn't require very polished rendered ideas, but it did take me many days to think of different ideas. I enjoyed this time and was excited when I came up with different ideas, some of which had similar products, but some of which were not actually realized. I even wanted to work on it myself if I could.

Reflection Blog For Week 2a
Butterflies are one of my favorite intentions, and many of my creations use butterflies, so I almost immediately chose butterflies as the object I wanted to express.
I would like to document how I created 50 shades project. I chose to use different items or different software to display the butterflies (first 15)
1.With Music. (kind of sound art)
So I started thinking about how I would represent my butterflies. I saw the tools I had at hand. the FL studio.
I suddenly pondered what would happen if I drew a butterfly using music software alone without considering the composition of the song. So I chose the drums and composed the butterfly with drum beats.
I'm very happy with the results. When I tried to play it, the drums were surprisingly good, an effect I seriously couldn't get before considering the composition!
So I chose different drums and painted the butterflies in different ways, and chose different instruments to randomly paint different butterflies, I didn't think about what the music sounded like before painting, it was completely random. I was really pleasantly surprised by the results when they came out.
Even when I chose the simplest piano rendition, I thought the piano came out like a butterfly fluttering up and down
(Video of the music)
2.With left hand painting
Actually the first thing that comes to mind is painting. But with normal drawing I thought the presentation would be boring, so I thought what if I drew with my left hand (my non-dominant hand). So I gave it a try.

(Pink: left hand ; Green: right hand)
While it may be hard to see the difference when looking at it this way, I use a lot of effort to control my left hand. After switching back to my right hand again I felt more relaxed than ever. My lines were also easier to control and I was able to draw more details. It was a very interesting experience for me.
3.Nomad modeling
I love making things with nomad, so I tried to make a butterfly with nomad. I didn't use any REFERENCES of butterflies, I made a butterfly entirely from my impressions and found a background I had made in PS before, imported it and made only special materials for the butterfly.
4.AI drawing
AI is a hot topic right now, so I decided to use some random language that came to me suddenly to get AI to generate scenes that would take me some time to build.
Descriptions: a half skeleton glittering Butterly, in a foggy city that looks unreal, houses on fire, flowers but dried, end of the war
(BY OPEN.AI)
5.With my dried flowers

I found the dried flowers I had made earlier, so I tore them apart and arranged them in the shape of a butterfly
6.Using a tissue

It occurred to me while I was working with tissue that tissue is very moldable and maybe I could use that to make a quick butterfly. With my impressions of butterflies, I finished this little butterfly (or bow?) with it.
7.Water damage

I thought of it when I was spraying perfume, what would happen if I let the perfume spray onto the paper and let it turn into a watery stain that stayed down the paper and turned into a butterfly pattern, so I tried it out because it was just too hard to control, and I tried my best to make it form a butterfly.
8.Hairband

I found my hairband and I realized that he would look a lot like a butterfly so I twisted it a little bit and it really did look like two wings of a butterfly.
9.A simple bow

In Chinese, bow translates to: a knotted butterfly, so it's perfect to use bow to show a butterfly.
10. Random tissue but..

This is a really funny coincidence, when I was cleaning up the kitchen, I was surprised to find my TISSUE accidentally pinched and shaped like a butterfly, so I took a picture of it! It looks nothing like the butterflies I made specifically for my 6.
11. Random rhinestone stickers

I used my little stickers for decorating to put up a cute butterfly.
12. With foam
I was recently receiving a delivery and saw the foam that was delivered and it looked like a butterfly in the center, so I made some changes to make it look more like a butterfly!
13. Cardboard
This is what I did together on with the foam, taking the cardboard from the delivery paper box. I cut out random pieces and then randomly used them to put together a butterfly
14. Red ink paste used for seal

I own a stamp with my name engraved on it (bottom right), and when I was about to use it my hand accidentally rubbed against the red stamping clay, so I suddenly thought what if I dipped my finger in the clay and drew a butterfly. So I tried it that way.
15. My charging cable

My charger is an everyday necessity and I was charging it when I suddenly thought what if I turned it into a butterfly, so after trying a few I got this.
After the last 35 designs I'm going to focus on butterflies and do some sketch about using butterflies to express some of our daily life designs or , abstract sense about how people feel about butterflies(I'm going to put the next 25 designs into Process Blog-2b because of image insertion restrictions.)
16. Butterfly Jewelry
Because I love butterflies so much, I've been thinking about making some jewelry, so I came up with Butterfly Ornaments. One of the things I really liked was the earrings, so I made the design. And tried to make one with nomad.

17. Tattoo
I wanted the butterflies to become tattoos flying up around my neck, and I designed the butterfly earrings with that in mind, although I think the butterfly tattoos should have been designed that way by someone. But I also thought it would be very pretty

18. Bag
I wanted to carry a butterfly on my back, so I thought of the bag. But not a shoulder bag that looks like I have butterfly wings on the front, but a crossbody bag and the side of a butterfly, like it's standing on my back!

19. Bowl
This bowl is like a butterfly holding a bowl, the bowl is removable

20. Pillow
I really like this pillow, it feels so cute and comfortable. The butterfly's tentacles can actually be turned into earplugs to use for sleeping

21. Spoon
Same design as my butterfly bowls that can be used as a pair. The thought process is the same

22. Scissors
These scissors look exactly like a butterfly and can be used as children's scissors since it is cute.

23. Diffuser
I recently discovered this item where the aroma spreads after pouring a perfume or something like that to a place. So I thought of butterflies and flowers and channeled the perfume into a small bowl of flowers. The scent will spread.

24. earphone
Also as a cute decoration to put butterflies in your ears.

25. butterfly jelly
There are different colored butterflies as different flavors and the sugar in the middle has jam inside it

Reflection Blog For Week 1
As a designer, I have been thinking about what our designs can bring. From my four years of study in the design school, I did learn that designs are tools for communication, and that when we encounter some phenomena or even social problems in real life, designers can use their design works to give a voice to this phenomenon. In this part, I think design does have some social responsibility.
This idea was reinforced after reading Tony Fry: Futuring, the City & Sustainment - the Remaking of Design. Although the world is made up of different countries, we as human beings also have important responsibilities and feelings for the development of the world. Our minds are constantly evolving along with the technological level of our lives. In the process of upgrading, we may need to break some inherent ideas and rules. We need "new" things to help us to live in this world which is begging for help currently (climate change etc.). I had a conversation with my mother who, as a person born in China in the 70's, has experienced the development of telephones and cell phones.
In the old days in China, if she wanted to call a friend, she had to first put the call through to a switchboard, which then transferred her to a regional area and so on, which was very inconvenient.

She said that at the end of the 90s she was still lamenting that it would be nice to have a cell phone that could make phone calls to see friend's face, but it turned out that in less than twenty years this progress had already been accomplished. Then I used to think there is a group of people in places I don't know who are trying to think and create to make our world a better place. Now that I'm part of this creative field, it's important for me to think about the possibilities.
As artists, we do need to learn to enjoy solitude. I think artists exist to identify social problems and call attention to them. The problems they find may not be understood and may be questioned, but thanks to their perseverance, people may gradually realize their importance as time goes by. I have a favorite performance artist in China, and her latest work is on the topic of "Can a Mother's Love Be Bought", in which she pays a high price to hire a girl of any age who has given birth to play the role of her mother, to see if she can experience love from it. (there's a link to original news posts)
(project poster by Zou)
Many people don't understand her, but I was shocked when I saw it. The world should be questioned, if we agree and don't challenge it, we will not progress or evolve. In my country, there are a lot of artists who use their artworks to spread their power on the internet for some social issues. Like this week I think the central idea of these readings is that the world is designed and we design the world to help us design it better.
I was deeply touched by The Horizons of the Artificial lecture. Human beings have evolved together with technology. Art provides us with imaginary worlds and more possibilities for us to think differently. It is because there is no objective sides of right or wrong in art, and it gives us enough room to think about "what if" possibilities. I think "the world" doesn't even exist, it is the human mind that "designs" the world step by step. The boldness of human ideas gave way to technology, and the world as we know it now was created.
The most impressive part of the lecture was the part where the professor taught about "clocks and watches, time", which is the same as what I have always thought, that time is a virtual name created by human beings. "Time may not exist". Astronauts in space have long since lost sight of the passage of "time" on Earth, and without clocks we can hardly even recognize how many hours have passed by the sun's path alone. I have always assumed the existence of time and even space. What about the world before the concept of time? How did humans define the time? By analogy to "space", I have always wondered about the possibility of a multiverse. We can now only define our existence as a single "three-dimensional world". On our timeline we can only think about the world that is ours, but only because our ideas are not bold enough. Maybe there are multiple timelines? Math tells us that parallel lines never intersect, and that's evidence that we can't find other universes.
We mentioned time travel in class time machine is also a part I've always been interested in. But if we have ideas to design it, maybe one day I will see another me in another world. If we have the idea to design technology, technology to assist, then maybe we will really find the "the backrooms". But first, we have to dare to think and dare to challenge more possibilities.
