Lucien made a small hum at the mention of drugs before joking “I prefer alcohol…but whatever helps.” Clearly not being serious though if you didn’t know him his flat tone may indicate otherwise.
Lucien managed to get up and out of the house under a minute from the original message. Thankfully, Kaveh was out of the house so there wasn’t the concern of being roped into some kind of lecture.
He rushed over as fast as his own body would allow, though he quickly realized surviving off of crackers and coffee for almost a month was detrimental to his ability to function.
Out of breath, and drenched in sweat he asked where Etoiles was. He didn’t appear to be in any of the beds in the main room.
“He’s in the ICU. Right this way…” a nurse gently took Lucien in, looking a little unnerved.
Soon, there he was. Battered and bruised to hell and back. Though, he did look stable and acted as though he was only scratched. “What the hell happened to you?” Lucien hissed

There wasn’t much to be said after that. Not that Lucien even could…
“Are you still in pain?” He asked, changing the subject with a soft tone.

Lucien’s throat began to lock up. “…I believe I would. No child deserves the fate you received…” he muttered, his tears threatening to spill.

It was difficult to verbalize, but Lucien managed to reply. “…you’re too kind.” His head dipped lower, seemingly shameful

He didn’t drag me into anything, dad. I was just as concerned as him. The only thing I wasn’t able to help with was pulling you out of the water. Father did that himself.
I know it’s difficult to believe but people are actually concerned for you and care about your well-being…
That was…a really weird dream…

Lucien huffed, but ultimately agreed.
He listened intently, but still struggled with what Etoiles was saying. He shook his head, giving up on attempting to piece it all together for the moment. He didn’t have the logical facts, or the spoons to worry. So he won’t spend unnecessary energy.
“I can’t say either… but I can’t say I’m surprised you spared Natalia.” He said, nonchalant but still soft enough to not alert Natalia further.

I’m going to ignore the fact you have your own wine cabinet, when you hardly ever drink…
How the hell would he have gotten that far without anyone seeing him? Isn’t he basically a celebrity in Sumeru? Also the fact that getting from the city to Port Ormos on foot is practically impossible, especially with Kaveh’s particular physical strength…
@kavehaskblog , where are you? Lucien and I have been trying to get ahold of you for the past three hours.

Well, we know he’s inebriated. I’ve already checked Lambad’s and none of the staff had seen him within the past week.

“Just tell me what happened.” He asked before hearing Natalia from the next curtain over.
The muttering seemed to snap Lucien back to reality. He blinked, shaking his head in attempt to get rid of the fog in his mind. “Should we wake her?” He asked. Empathetic to the pain of a nightmare to that degree.

Lucien complied—mainly because he really did need to sit down.
His eyes trailed back to the floor as his posture dipped slightly. “This isn’t about me. You nearly died and you’re worried about me?” He snickered in hopes he could choke back any real emotion. “It’s just flashbacks. I don’t even know if they are real memories at this point.” He shook his head.

Lucien clenched his jaw, slightly huffing through his nose like an angry but docile dog. He hesitated for more time than he intended, but did hold his hand. “I’m alive…” he muttered.
He wasn’t sure if he could pull off his usual lies. An I’m fine wouldn’t work, and he couldn’t dodge the question, with other scholars sure but those in his circle knew the tells, especially since his father had already laid the groundwork. Every excuse has been far overplayed far past his own age.
The touch seemed to have melted him slightly, still he didn’t appear to be the warm blanket Etoiles was used to.

“Bullshit. You’re lucky you’re alive.” Lucien growled as he stepped closer, analyzing the wounds but not daring to touch him. Even though Lucien was no longer running, he still appeared to be severely out of breath and paler than usual. “Enough with the Fontainian talk, tell me what happened. Fully. Don’t sugar coat it.” He demanded, his voice trembled with both anger and weakness.
He blinked as he turned his attention away from Etoiles, just staring at the floor for a moment before resuming back to him. There was no way this was the same little boy, it can’t be. He attempted to wipe away any thoughts that intruded on his mission for answers.

acerbic wit
you're a mentor — an old scarred wolf, an injured soldier, a disgraced paladin. your teachings read as shamelessly pretentious, speaking in rhymes and biting down hard into anyone stupid enough to make the wrong move. this isn't your first life, nor your second, nor your sixth — you'll make the most of your time shackled to this world, no matter how many loops it takes to get it right. with every defeat, you reincarnate; a little smarter, a little quicker, crueler and nastier. will you choose to be brutal, equalizing, that final strike in the face of your enemies? will you go soft, become tender and domesticated? the choice is yours. it's not like i can stop you.
//idk who to tag :,)
Once you're stripped clean, what is at your core?
Flightless Bird
the thought of your found family is what motivates you in your own little world. you touch the clouds, and the soil gives way under your footprints... this is utopia. if you were to erase one thing, it would be your memory. experience is important, but ignorance is bliss. identity, in heaven, should give way to happiness. you'd give anything just to sit by the swings and eat ice cream, but this isn't that kind of world. you have to get up and wash the dirt off of your scraped knees. i think you have an escapism problem.

Hello sir, your friend Etoiles is in the Bimarstan after the incident. He’s woken up and is ready for visitors!
Lucien grumbled, pulling his head out of the bundle of blankets to glance at his phone. Who would dare message him at the ungodly hour of….two in the afternoon? He squints, his glasses too far out of reach to bother. “What…”
The dread and panic begins to set in as the rest of his body woke. Standing up weakly. He managed to put on a loose shirt and clean sweatpants. Not as sharp as he would typically like but convenience took priority. It wasn’t far from Alhaitham and Kaveh’s house but any amount of movement felt impossible.

//angst be upon ye *throws this at you*
Rumination was an easy slump for Lucien to fall into.
It had been a long while since he last saw Etoiles and slowly but surely he began to crumble. Each day chipped away at him.
Before he would go out almost every day, at least for a little bit. But as the days dragged he was less and less interested in interacting with anyone, so he remained inside. He gave up on any routine, he hadn’t put on any of his jewelry in weeks.
His only socialization was whenever his parents spoke to him, or he was entertained by whatever bickering they were doing. But even that was losing its novelty.
