As cool as it is and how much I want to agree to having better premises of the story. Sadly it’s not realistic.

The problem here is twofold,

there are ludicrous amounts of books that are written every day. A million books per year on the lower end. So when looking at the POV of the reader, if you ever want to find the book that have a something you want. It would be a very ambitious endeavor to read perhaps hundreds of books premises to get to the book that you want.

The other issue is that fanfics tropes sells, and it sells hard. The target audience that some publishers target are prolific buyers of books. Hell, even book hoarders. And having the books that’s has the semi-summary’s gives an illusion that they understand what is the book about without actually reading it.

do publishers realize that advertising books using fanfic tropes spoils the experience of reading an original story. stop telling me it’s enemies to lovers and there was only one bed and unrequited love hurt comfort golden retriever black cat timeloop major character death. why do i give a fuck if i don’t know any of the characters and now plus i already know the entire plot of the story. that’s what ao3 is supposed to be for

really everyone you love has something miserably wrong with them or an obvious flaw that won't ever be fixed but like it's up to you what kind of person you can and cannot deal with. someone in my family has anger issues which I can handle and diffuse with no problem, but a person who can't tolerate yelling could not be close to him. another person I know is very anxious & needs constant reassurance and she gets along famously with gentler and more straightforward people than myself, but I can't handle being second guessed all the time. someone who is loosey goosey with their morals wouldn't bother me, but a person with a profound sense of justice makes me feel afraid of getting on their bad side. none of these traits actually make someone a bad person & just because there are personalities I can't handle doesnt mean I'M a bad person either. litany against callout posts for stupid shit and simple incompatibilities we all have to live on this earth together & need to learn how to deal with each other

At the end of the day you have to understand some people are mentally ill like really really mentally ill on a level you can’t understand. I see this a lot when someone does something weird or incomprehensible and people are shocked trying to figure out their intentions and why they’d do it and it’s like there’s people who are psychotic or delusional or have rapid mood swings you’ll never be able to comprehend and very often people with other mental illnesses who are able to function more acceptably have a bad lack of understanding of that and compare what they can do and act like as the standard not understanding that’s not the same playing field

People discussing ‘unhinged’ fanfiction always seem to talk about dark!fic or explicit stuff, as opposed to the truly unhinged stuff like the fic author zapping all their favs from a story onto a set, assigning them roles, and forcing them to act out popular movies. Because, let me tell you, I read a fic like that with the original Yugioh cast acting out Disney’s Aladdin approximately fifteen years ago, and it is to this day one of the one of the most unhinged pieces of media I’ve ever consumed.
